Hello sir, can that of 1000 watts run 1hp AC with couple of bulbs, please try to explain the capabilities of these your solar in layman terms for those of us that are not familiar with the way these things work. 1000 watts can carry 1Ac , 2 fans, 1 light bulbs, etc, some of us will then take time to do research on the capacity that will best suits our needs. Another thing that is very important to someone like me is the battery, don’t you guys have dry cell’s batteries that can run those solars ?

Hahaha, welcome aboard. Do anyone ever imagine this is part of abroad lifestyle. These are some of unforeseen things that could happen to anyone aboard. Egun don’t scared people away ooooo.

I wouldn’t live in the USA at this point of my life if you paid me.

Is there a better quality of life in the USA? Of course. But similar lifestyle can be funded and had in the USA.

Let’s break it down.

Safety:
Yes. Nigeria could be dangerous no doubt. America is also potentially dangerous. Admittedly foreigners can easily abound trouble areas.

Education:
Again, as a standard the USA has a high quality of education. Unarguably. But the children of some well to dos, children of foreign diplomats and foreign business people are getting good education. So any average education issue can be mitigated.

Housing:
We all know that there are good homes and communities in Nigeria. Some rival homes and communities in the USA.

Employment:
I can’t speak on this as I’m not in the working demographics. But I think that there’s employment.

In my opinion, people are naturally nomadic. Even if Nigeria was the very garden of Eden people would and should still travel.

I have friends in the USA that moved from Japan, Netherlands, Canada, etc they certainly aren’t economic migrants.

I’ll close by thanking those that are migrating to the USA. You have my complete support. You’ll be working there to ensure that my social security account will be well funded

Hummmm, @ bold I said it in proverb for those that don't understand what I mean he broke it down. In my opinion for the brother who used to live comfortable under minimal wage that was then, in this stage of our lives with huge responsibilities on our shoulder those lifestyle is not advisable. Remember my advise about age? When it says working he means what he said. I hope his words is clearly understood, imagine at 40 somebody thinking of migrating to unknown destination, that's what I mean by jumping into lake without knowing how deep it is. He will be swimming for some years before he step his foot on dry land. The journey sometimes could be 10 or more years. I'm not discouraging anyone not to try their luck but be prepared for unforeseen battle.

Don't read or see it from the prism of Naira and kobo or dollar and penny. For some people, the comfort of living in a civilised society cannot be traded for anything.

As a graduate student, I lived in St. Andrews, UK for three years, working as a social worker. I wasn't rich but I was comfortable, living within minimum wage, with comfortable accommodation, access to basic necessities and assured security.

Sometimes, people look beyond financial success in their quest to live abroad. All those colleagues I mentioned are not rich in Canada. Some left their owned duplexes here in Nigeria for two bedroom basement apartment in canada.

Some are currently doing warehouse and county jobs and are yet to break into corporate canada. You can never take away the peace and comfort the state of canada offers to its citizens and residents.

Hummmm, thanks for your understanding from mine prospective, you taste it before. Your mission is clear, unlike others that jump is the lake without knowing how deep is it, why not give it a shot if age won’t be an issue. Egun is here, he tasted both side, enjoying his retirement. He is in better position to advise us.

The current situation of the country, politically and economically have made some of us that have decided to stay to look stupid and insane.

Family, friends and former colleagues have kept asking what I and my family are still doing in Nigeria. But everybody cannot run away. As at the last count, I have 19 of them, former colleagues in Canada now. People don run comot finish for this country.

Every graduate or youth major concerned is how to leave the country. It has never been bad like this.

Question, are those colleagues truthfully to you on what they are going through silence between first five years of their arrival in Canada. Trust me is not that It’s not that smooth as people think. Every country as it’s own internal problems.

ANGLE IRON BEARS KE ? it could be a mistake. May be he mean [ H ] Chanelle, or 3'' 5mm thick wall black round pipe, 3'' 5mm thick wall galvanized pipe is better if you have low budget, because of its corrosion resistant.

You are right, doing your wiring before the ceiling makes for a smooth work all through BUT the fear of wire theft can make one to put off wiring till later, despite the risk of the ceilings.

Because of the number of workers that work in the sites between the time you wire and the time the ceiling is later done, theft of wires can occur. Theft of wires is very easy and quick, and could be done by even those who are not trained as electricians. The cost of wires now is an added incentive for thieves.

So I go ahead and so my ceilings, and my ceiling people always tie them with enough supports to avoid any damage. I then do wiring as one of the last jobs on site when most people have left the site, just before painting.

To ensure there are no blocked pipes, i bring the electricians to phish the lines and confirm that all lines are through before we start plastering. Thanks.

Oga 48hours for (ANY) drawing, does this include the architectural, mechanical drawing? Haba don't you think it's to fast with back and forth with client request before arriving at a conclusion for the design. I have no idea how this 48 hours thing is possible. I think I might have to challenge your competent in my next project, be prepared my designs are crazy. What is your average cost? Can you please show us some of the samples of the designs you did in the past.

It may worth the amount and it may not. The credentials of the person or firm and their experience in the industry may account for such. Certain times when a potential client is profiled by a contractor to have money then it's an avenue to make you pay above the norm.
But you can always get it for less and even less. The most important thing is getting a good design that meets modern requirements for human habitation given the land size and shape.

Thanks for nailing it @ bold. It's projects is just like one of mine with additional 2 units of 2 bedrooms. I didn't pay as much as him but I believe to be fair with both clients, if the service charge fee between 500k-700k with seal of all the professionals involved for approval. For many of those that charge 50k-100k will not tell you there will not include any professional seal for approval in their drawing, many of these people are draft men not architect. This price in my opinion fairly represents a structure of 1- 2 1/2 story building. Anything above that may attract additional fee's but it's all based on your negotiation skills. Those fee's does not represent anything close to half that amount for bungalows.

Sometimes when I go through posts here it’s almost like we live in parallel universes. I paid 1.4 million Naira for all of my drawings and that was with a lot of arguments sef. How are you guys doing drawings for 30k, 40k?

Can you tell us the scope of your drawing? This is a little on the high side for regular joes like us. Many of these professionals with Core this Core that end up giving Baba Lati the job without stepping on your side till the job finish. Some of them will come online displaying grammars of professionalism comparing themselves with foreign professionals practicing in other jurisdictions. One thing that is clear to me is to be a PE engineer or Core as they call it, in this part of the world you must be in practice for at least 10 years and exhibit multiply projects that you singlehandedly done over the years before one can seat for that exam. This exam is not cheap, after acquiring your education with sometimes up to or over $100,000 in student loans to attain those professional license. Honestly, can our local professionals comparing their charges with foreign counterparts practicing in other parts of the world. With many of them not even aware of liability that can ruin the entire professional life if anything went wrong in the line of their duty. In my opinion, this is why many of their foreign counterparts charging what the government prescribed for them to charge. Factoring all those student loans and liabilities into those charges, do we have all of this in Nigeria? Even with all this, there is heavy taxes these professionals pay to the government. In honesty, how many of our professionals here paying those taxes, even regular taxes? People pay ties to churches and mosque's than government taxes.

If you see anyone offering to do architectural, mechanical, electrical and structural design for 50k you better run faraway.
Most are just charlatans looking for next daily bread and what you'll get would be almost useless and won't stand scrutiny.

In your case, you probably engaged a top firm and most likely your scale of work was larger and perhaps supervision was included.

I'd also be wary of architects who draw structural designs.

I'd also be wary of people who go about swearing, cussing and cursing.

A friend of mine thought he got a deal, 100k for everything inclusive. By the time he got to know what they were doing on site it was too late. They constructed a bathroom 4 ft by 4 ft, a pillar in the middles of a bedroom, no concentration for ventilation. He ended up pulling the entire building down.

In this inflation period, one of the best responses is to stock up on needed materials and wait to use them on ongoing and upcoming projects before the costs can get out of reach. This has helped me keep a lot of costs down. I have spend the last 36 hours in and around Onitsha, buying as much building materials as possible to stock up for future use.

If you have some local funds, better tie them down on something as the naira is losing its value daily.

@Oga Spyder how many of us can afford to pre stock materials like that, unless if one is in Hushpuppi, Rufai Aderemi ganga, that are on news worldwide recently.

i agree my brother, architecture has indeed been thrown to the dogs because it wasn't no sane person will even dare post that an architect agreed to do a design, structure and MEP drawings for 25k online, such a person will consider such job a help and will keep quiet about it, thats the reason i changed my mind, that one he already got is his money worth, if he wants the structural et all he should pay for it or look somewhere else.

There are single 4ft wooden door locally manufacture in Ikaja lagos selling for 2m to 3m depending on one choice, without any nice looking lady attached to as jara to take home. lol

However the implication you will have with it is in your staircase, if you do not have a stair hall that can accommodate the required number of risers(150mm), you may end up having higher risers like 175mm which isn't good at all.
So check your stair hall before you decide on adding more volume.

1 tonne of 12 mm rod in Lagos is #380k as at today.

I went to my vendor shop to buy and when he gave me the price, within my mind I felt he wanted to cheat me and we quarreled a bit before i angrily left his shop only for me to go to another vendor and they quoted me #385k last. I left there and went to another place and I was told #380k last price.

Shame couldn't make me go back to the initial vendor who has been my supplier since the inception of my project. Little did I know he was giving me the actual price. I had to later buy from the third person because I felt guilty of quarreling with my supplier and didn't have the energy going back to his shop.

God help this country with the way price of material is increasing. This same 1 tonne 12 mm rod was less than 200k as at October 2020.

Yes the price as been running crazy since last year with almost all the building materials. You need to be specific what type you buy. TMT I believe is one of the best in market in time of quality and size. Even the so called local the sale 9 mm as 12mm and 11mm as 16 mm. Prices rocketing too. What is going on for God sake.

Na the matter wey me and my woman take quarrel. Most Nigerians fancy these pillars and believed that the pillars makes the house looks elegant. Far from it. My build is a typical contemporary build with mono pitch roof. But my woman, with her Nigerian mentality, believes that all the houses in Nigeria must have those pillars. Modern architecture don't come with pillars.

Usually, it is not the fault of the Architect. It is the client that mostly request the presence of those pillars and high roof

Hahaha, guys am one of those pillar gang. I choose to have 11 pillars in of mine house in designs stage, until I saw the bill that call mine pockets to order, even with that I reduce it to 5. I just love to see them same as high roofing on building designs especially the rounds ones. My dislike for flat roof, I don't think will even take it for free. Just like man choice of woman stay the way you are, you will fine who will love you the way you are. I'm sorry ladies, it a fact we deal with as men with different taste and choice .

Egun you no am advocate of safety. I will advise you to take safety class with this your passion for fabricating stuff's, because you're there doesn't mean you should be doing things the same way. You know better, you should exhibit those safety precaution just as you are displaying technicality of using tools to get accurate finish. I no say make Baba go back to school ooo, baba can pick up book or take remedial courses about safety. You can't be sparking light on a wood or combustible stuffs around our your wielding station without blanket, I do not see any fire extinguisher around your wielding area these are simple items that are suppose to be around before you spark a light. I don't want to be extreme to even ask you to get a fire guard around your wielding area in case of any fire outbreak, God forbid. LOL
