The piston is labelled Lister and Perkins and so is the imported label but they're China made You don't wanna know bros, these are people that I worked with in the 80s as a young engineer. I don't wanna mention names. matter of fact, my first car was given to me for free for one of the design tools I made for them in 1989 in there gigantic factory in Nnewi with over 10 expectorates from India and Taiwan. rmx: Don’t get what u mean by transshipment
There is direct shipment of cargo from china either by sea or air , there are Nigerian agents that do this and have warehouses in china esp guanzhou , do both regularly apart from my own normal full container imports Someone posted a number , am assuming that’s one
From Dubai same apply , I did air cargo , they will handle all freight and custom issues , you only need to pick up in the Nigerian office or warehouse
Most times they charge par cbm or kg Thanks for clarifying the information. I thought you brought from china and an item was shipped from Dubai to Nigeria. That's what I mean by transshipment. I had a very bad experience last year October during pandemic lockdown, I imported complete bathroom, kitchen, and other items for a friend, because he insisted he wanted American standards from China. After paying for everything, I instructed them I'm shipping to Nigeria which created problems between me and the manufacture. At the end of the day they obliged to my instructions, the items are half the size of the container. The agents did whatever they had to do and delivered the items February this year. To cut the story short, always try to buy full container to save money when your items are going to Lagos. When the items landed in Lagos it created another issue with the customs and the agent. At the end of the day, the clearing fees is about same as clearing the entire container. lesson learn |

davodyguy: Some of what you posted above is misinformation.
Close (if not more) to 50% of world supplies come from China.
They have standard and what most importers to Nigeria do is to tell manufacturers the standard they want. So if you see fake items from China, it's the standard requested that was produced
There are some merchants on Alibaba that sell in small quantities. Yes AliExpress is the retail market, while Alibaba is for wholesalers. Hence, for building projects that you need items in Large items for, you can buy through Alibaba and for smaller quantities, you can use Ali Express.
Also, AliExpress don't take forever to ship. One or two merchants can delay, but over 50% of them keep to time.
In the last 5 years, I've had the opportunity of buying items myself from over 6 countries and I can tell you they have original items and less original.
Truth be told, China is a blessing to Nigerians.
When you go to Mushin or Orílè and people tell this door is from Turkey, it's a lie. It's from China, but the design is what they use in Turkey, hence they call is 'Turkey door'
This Stainless steel handrail is from Turkey, in fact, they would write Turkey on it, but it's from China.
Let's do a test using Lagos as case study.
The major markets are: Lagos Island(Adeniji, Idumagbo, Jankara, oroyinyin) Orile Mushin Kétu Alaba
70% or more of the socket, Fan, Electric kettles, iron, lights, doors, cartridge for printers, etc are from China
The remaining 30% from all other countries Bros i'm to old to be posting misleading information here, what I wrote here are facts. Most of those big importers from china reveled this information to me as far back as 30 years ago and they're still doing it today, I don't want to mentions names, but from cable to roofing sheets to electrical accessories, these are importers that import 10 to15 containers at once. Let me give you an example. those solar lights in Nigeria market is written 80w on them in reality it is actually 40w -60w with other stuff, even most of their accessories that was written made in UK, Turkey, etc. were just printed on it for marketing purposes, because that's what our people wanted. Those misleading printed labels on products can't happen in other parts of the world. |

rmx: This life , once you don’t know , you will pay for it . Knowledge is power
The reason this thread is vital is for that purpose , the reason also some of us come to check ways to improve our build and reduce cost
for my build to be commissioned soon brought in all the Acs from china , same with most electrical fitting
Was given quotes for spot lights etc last month , took about 2 weeks for it to land from Dubai , all at less than half the price
Only bought one generator in Nigeria in the last 20 years and that only as a courtesy to my dads friend that was into generator sales , in that period must have bought close to 15 , some as big as 1375kva , the reason is obvious
I don’t begrudge anybody selling at incredible prices , responsibility lies on you to seek alternative , he get where we too dey hammer Hmmmm if I get you clearly sir, are you trans shipping from china to Dubai to Nigeria? . If you don't mind can you share more information on how this works? |

davodyguy: Here's my second advice.
I can see the total cost is about $69.
If you use Zenith Bank card, you'll be charged ₦420 to Dollar GTB and First Bank are about same rate
$69x₦420 = ₦29,000+
That comes to about ₦3000 per light.
It's still cheaper than what the person advertised on Jumia for ₦10,000 I hope you all understand they are not shipping to you the same quality as the other parts of the world once they know the shipping destination, especially Nigeria. This is due to the failure of our agencies and regulators, it is our people that always request for substandard products to maximize their profit. From experience most of these giant manufactures in china don't even take less than 100 pieces in most of their orders, and if they do they charge you extra fee. Aliexpress are the one that deal with retail and their shipments could take forever, even their prices is not as cheap as Alibaba. |

I decided to put the blocks side by side and measure their height.

gbadexy: I thought some people said the price of cement has started to come down. The importers are behind the present increase in price and they are cashing out at the expense of the people. I don't understand why cement should be more than N2000 or not lesser though seeing as the clay limestone and even gypsum needed is gotten from the ground at no cost. I watched the launching of the cement plant in ogun state several years ago and they said they couldn't exhaust the limestone there in the next 50 years. The clay they use is also dug on the land and they just use excavator and trucks to transfer them via a conveyor to the heating kiln where they are heated and ground together with addition of little additives like the gypsum to control setting. I watched the documentary and I've often wondered why the product couldn't be much cheaper given the huge volume sold as compared to the overhead cost. This inflation is out of control. I bought TMT rods 3 weeks ago @310. I paid 75k more per ton 3 later this is between last month and this month. I bought cement 2 hours ago @ 3,400 per big In Ajah area he told me it’s may go higher. Two weeks earlier the same guy selling for 3,050. What do we call this God sake. |

Let me not forget to inform you that we moved into the uncompleted house August 2016. Just this week we finished painting works. See photos.
I can't tell exactly how much has been spent so far but I know we must have spent up to N7m or N8m including the fencing and gate. But in all we give glory to Jehovah who made the journey so far possible. Congratulation man, may the lord almighty continue to bless you and your honest earning. We've seen and read about many civil servants that earned less then 5 million a year, but own properties all over worth over 25-50 million. |

sonnie10: One dealer or even a group of them cannot influence the price of iron rods in Nigeria. It Is a very competitive market. Different companies are into the business with everyone trying to out do the other in terms of price to get more market share. Even foreigners are involved. The issue of how dollars affect locally fabricated rods ( no company manufactures rods in Nigeria) has been addressed. But I will add more. As a businessman, would you sell your wares and not be able to buy or import even up to the quantity you had before? Say you bought one rod at #4200 when dollars was ($1 to #420). So you sold for #4900. Fast forward to today you went back to buy dollars in order for you to import another one and you discover that a dollar is now selling for #485. Which means your cost price is now #4850. What would you do? This your Analysis Is base on those small players in the market. The big players like Dangote and others that buy 3 to 5 ships at once don’t buy Dollars at those street corners mallams rate price. Even some items that are imported, the more you buy the cheaper it’s becomes. The smaller players team together to buy a ship or half to save as well. You don’t want to know the game they are playing with this dollar thing. let me tell you this for free, no amount of dollars that coming in there that will ever be enough in as much the game remains the same, you will never have enough dollars in that country. Please don’t let us flood this gentleman man page. Oga sypder880 well-done , you’re doing great. |

sonnie10: Unfortunately, the present inflation is driven by exchange rate. No importer would sell an item less than the amount he/she bought it. All importers big and small buy dollars for $480 and above now. One way you can figure out the estimate for any imported item is to go to alibaba website and see the current price. Then add cost of importation and clearing. Do this by using bulk calculation (in 20feet container). For example POP cement On the website, 1ton (25 of 40kg bags) some sellers have it for about for $150
One 20feet container is about 700bags which is 28tons. so, the cost is............................................... $4200 = #2.016m Shipping is......................................................$2800 =#1.344m Clearing is.......................................................#1.5M Mis & inland transport ..............................200k Total............................................................... #5,060,000
Now divide that figure by 700bags you have #7228.50 per bag of 40kg imported POP cement Did you know that POP is still being sold for #6000- #6500 for 50kg bag in Nigeria? This is complete BS many of these materials are manufactured in Nigeria. Are you telling us the dealers selling lost, like the other poster asked about the iron price that's increasing every two days. I believe its just wicked dealers pushing the market to the edge. |
