Telly B:
More than the type of music, it is the source and power behind the music that a believer should be quite focused on. Where the Holy Spirit empowers worship and music, there God is glorified.
Nothing more needs to be said. The style is not as important as the spirit and inspiration behind the music.
And realise not all songs that call the name of Jesus is actually inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Its a collection of short stories and reports about persecution of christians right from the time of the apostles to present day Nigeria. really touching.
It was inspired by a 1995 song of the same name by the band DC talk. The members of the group also contribute.

Many people have their persuasions as to tithing not being a practice for NT believers; but I'm still studying this subject with reference to the priesthood of Melchizedek as a figure of the priesthood of our Lord.
Interesting point you just brought up, my dear bari_kade. Interesting point.

Christianity EtcRe: Fav'rite Psalm--and Why? by lafile(m): 9:15am On Jun 11, 2007
I love Psalm 139 so so much
Here it is

139:1 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

139:2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

139:3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

139:4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

139:5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

139:9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

139:10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

139:11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

139:12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

139:18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.

139:19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.

139:20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

139:21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

139:22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.

139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Christianity EtcRe: Melchisedec - Who Was This Man? by lafile(m): 8:01am On Jun 08, 2007
@Bari_kade, thesilent1, TayoD
If I understand correctly what y'all are saying, the "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life" statement merely refers to his priesthood and not his person. Meaning His priesthood had no beginning and no end, no predecessor and no succesor right?
Christianity EtcRe: Melchisedec - Who Was This Man? by lafile(m): 1:11pm On Jun 07, 2007
@All
Question still remains.
Was melchisedec a member of the trinity manifested on earth or
Was melchisedec a mere man who's life was used to reflect Christ as per typology?

And what does the bible mean by saying
"For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually" Heb 7:1-3

SportsGodwin Okpara, Former Super Eagle, Sentenced To 13 Years In Jail! by lafile(op): 1:05pm On Jun 04, 2007
A French court last Friday sentenced a Nigerian former footballer who played for a top French club, Godwin Okpara, to 13 years in prison for the rape of his adopted daughter. Okpara's wife received 15 years for her rape and torture, while his mother-in-law received a five-year sentence for failing to come to the aid of a person in danger. After the verdict, Okpara's wife, Linda, sarcastically turned on their daughter, Tina, saying: "Thanks. Thanks a lot, Tina. Good luck in France." She then danced in the accused's box and made incomprehensible remarks toward her daughter, who stared at the ground.

Jurors had deliberated for two hours before reaching the verdict. Okpara, a 34-year-old who played for French club Paris Saint-Germain between 1999 and 2001, denied raping the girl, saying the sex had been consensual. During the four-day trial, Tina, also a Nigerian, now aged 19, described having lived through an ordeal because of her parents, who brought her to France in 2001 at the age of 13. She said she was forced to do all household chores, and was regularly raped by her adopted father under threat of being beaten. Linda Okpara allegedly shaved her head, stubbed a cigarette out on her cheek, and forced her to perform cruel sexual acts, according to the accusations. Defense lawyers said they were likely to appeal. Okpara's lawyer had described him as mentally absent. "Godwin Okpara is not the heartless monster that has been described," said Joseph Cohen Sabban

SportsRe: Shame: Uganda(2)-Nigeria(1). Upset In Kampala. by lafile(m): 9:10am On Jun 04, 2007
Until Nigerians accept that there is a problem with Nigerian Football as a whole, there will be no change. We will keep going round and round in circles.

Players
We should accept that we do not have a world class team. We have never had. We see our players as superstars. We believe Nigeria can boast three world class teams. We believe We have more talent than any other Country. All these are bogus beliefs. Blatant Lies. Our playes are average at best. And worse the quality of our team is below the sum of its individual average members. How many of our players play top roles in top European clubs? How many even play in top European clubs? The team of of 1994 was succesful not because they were stars in Europe, but because they never thought of themselves better than they were. Today we dont have a Goalkeeper worth that name. our best defender Yobo alwaysplays below par for us. Shittu is just average. Taiwo despite his 'age' is at his peak and will only go downhill. midfield? only hope is mikel. maybe obodo and olofinjana too. he rest? rubbish. attack? average playesr. no bite. why any sane coach will play ayegbeni still beats my imagination. He's just a carbbon copy of emile heskey. The sad part of it all is that the above is the best we have to offer.

NFA
the source of our problems nfa. simple. administratively incompetent. devoid of ideas. i seriously doubt if any member of the nfa is in that board for the interest of nigerian footbal. they are all there to make ends meet. people often wonder why these players keep complaining about money and allowances and ticket refunds. its simple. why should they spend their money when the money meant for these matches is being shared by nfa members? if there is no money we will understand. I dont know of one good idea that has come out of NFA ever. not one. wether for the Local league or the International game. I remember in the late 80's and early 90's i could tell u names of playes in our local league. today i dont even know the teams. i dont know when the league starts or when it ends. the league has never started at the right time in the past five years. Until the NFA gets its act together, there is no hope for nigerian football.

So many Africans on Forbes Rich List why no Nigerians? There must be something Fishy About Adenuga and Dangote for them not to be on that list. Fernandez and Akande seem to be only recognised in Nigeria and (for Fernandez) squabbles with ex-wife over assets.

PoliticsRe: Imagine Fuel At N75 Per Litre by lafile(m): 8:14am On May 28, 2007
N75 per liter? is that new? The only place where we've ever bought fuel at the regulated N65 per liter price is Lagos. It is economically impossible to buy fuel at N65 per liter anywhere else. Why? Because we import and it lands at Lagos. Most Oil marketers get fuel into their tanks at N63.5 or N64 per liter. It costs N1 to transport it within Lagos. N12 to take it to P/Harcourt N15 to Kano.

We have muddled up and politicised the fuel issue for so long that the only solution requires us to suffer for a while. The Govt. has to take its hands completely out of the fuel situation for any sanity to prevail.
Christianity EtcRe: Are You A Christian If You Don't Believe Every Bible Story? by lafile(m): 9:01am On May 25, 2007
@ KAG
You are judging based on the assumption that you are in a position to critically analyse the literary styles and thought patterns of writers who wrote thousands of years before your knowledge base was crystallised. just because stuff was written in poetic literary style doesnt make it untrue. just because some story doesnt comform to reality as you know it (remembering off course that your knowledge is limited - God is not) doesnt make it untrue.

If the writers of the bible interwovenly placed truth and untruth in it and then passed it off as divine, then they are not to be trusted. there is no point believeing any story in the bible at all.

If the writers of the bible actually make a claim that the entire book is divinely inspired, its either they are telling the truth or they are lying. If they are telling the truth, it means all the stories are true. there is no middle ground.

Truth is not subjective. Your idea of truth is dependent on what you want to believe. what you assume is believable. Note that truth remains truth wether you believe it or not.

the bottom line is that all of this is a matter of faith.

PoliticsHamas Has Started Again O! Don't Blame Israel This Time O by lafile(op): 11:14am On May 18, 2007
Members of rival Palestinian militias Fatah and Hamas, have been fighting each other since last week.
Notice that this violence is purely between these organisations fighting for political control of the Palestinian Territories. It has absolutely nothing to do with Israel. Nothing at all.

However true to type, Hamas has been launching rockets into Israel. Reports indicate that over 100 Qassam rockets have been fired from Gaza into Israel since the beginning of the week.

Now Israel has decided to defend herself against this unsolicited aggression. And what is the standard Palestinian response? An official from the Izzedine Al Qassam brigades, Hamas' military wing, said it's the right of the Palestinian people to defend themselves against "Israeli crimes" in any way they see fit, threatening possible suicide attacks.

Question is who is defending and who is attacking? The Palestinians who are fighting themselves and are deliberately launching Rockets (over 100 per week) into Israel? or the Israelis who just sit at home and see rockets fired into their homes for no reason? Its appaling.

Now the Palestinians are claiming deaths with every retaliatory rocket launched from Israel. What did they expect? that Israel will just sit down while Hamas launches hundreds of rockets into Israel every week?
