Christianity EtcRe: The Bermuda Triangle by lafile(m): 8:13am On Apr 19, 2007
@Goodguy
This is a cut and paste from wikipedia (their reference is http://strangegr.tripod.com/strangeandparanormalactivities/id25.html)

The boundaries of the Triangle vary with the author; some stating its shape is akin to a trapezium covering the Straits of Florida, the Bahamas, and the entire Caribbean island area east to the Azores; others add to it the Gulf of Mexico. The more familiar, triangular boundary in most written works has as its points Miami, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda, with most of the accidents concentrated along the southern boundary around the Bahamas and the Florida Straits.

The area is one of the most heavily-sailed shipping lanes in the world, with ships crossing through it daily for ports in the Americas and Europe, as well as the Caribbean Islands. Cruise ships are also plentiful, and pleasure craft regularly go back and forth between Florida and the islands. It is also a heavily flown route for commercial and private aircraft heading towards Florida, the Carribean, and South America from points north.

The Gulf Stream ocean current flows through the Triangle after leaving the Gulf of Mexico; its current of five to six knots may have played a part in a number of disappearances. Sudden storms can and do appear, and in the summer to late fall the occasional hurricane strikes the area. The combination of heavy maritime traffic and tempestuous weather makes it inevitable that vessels could founder in storms and be lost without a trace — especially before improved telecommunications, radar, and satellite technology arrived late in the 20th century.

I hope it answers your question.

@Uzygirl
I suggest you do some research on the bermuda triangle.
For a start check out this link http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq8-1.htm.
And for all that stuff about magnetic compass variations, heres what the US navy has to say:

It has been inaccurately claimed that the Bermuda Triangle is one of the two places on earth at which a magnetic compass points towards true north. Normally a compass will point toward magnetic north. The difference between the two is known as compass variation. The amount of variation changes by as much as 60 degrees at various locations around the World. If this compass variation or error is not compensated for, navigators can find themselves far off course and in deep trouble. Although in the past this compass variation did affect the "Bermuda Triangle" region, due to fluctuations in the Earth's magnetic field this has apparently not been the case since the nineteenth century.

And for more research, http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq8-3.htm

There's nothing special about the bermuda triangle. A lot of ships get lost in troubled waters - so what? it is troubled, violent waters that part of the atlantic anyway. The devil lives there? yeah, and I saw the Loch Ness monster in my backyard yesterday.
Christianity EtcRe: Gospel Music Versus Secular Music by lafile(m): 2:38pm On Apr 11, 2007
Music I believe was first used to worship God. Lucifer while in heaven used music to worship God. But worship is not all about music and music is not all about worship. While the highest form of Christian Music is Worship music, not all Christian music can be categorised as worship music.

All christian music should glorify God. Thats the bottom line. To me, Christian music is any music done by a christian (a born again, spirit filled christian, that is.) Christian music is music written and performed under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Anything i can say as a christian i can also sing about. I can talk to my God, express my love for God, express my doubts, declare my faith, evangelise, encourage someone, remind someone of Gods faithfullness, declare He's coming soon, etc with my music. Christian music should not be limited to Worship alone. And since worship is a life style, in essence our living the christian lifestyle and expressing it thru music is in essence worship.

When the european missionaries first came to africa, they not only changed the names of their converts, but also changed their music. As far as they were concerned, african music styles were heathen in nature and origin. Hymns had to be sung in european styles. even when africans learnt to play the organ and trumpets, they were restricted to european styles. However, you cannot use music that does not come from your heart to worship God. It didnt take long for these africans to 'remix' these hymns african style. this way their hearts could relate to what their notes were saying. Style doesnt matter as much as people tend to believe. in most times, it is just cultural bias. Off course i would not close my eyes in worship with heavy drums playing, but when singing about the joy of the Lord, bring on the dancing.

Thats not to say that every song categorised under Cristian or Gospel is actually so. Not everysong that says 'God" or 'Jesus" is Christian, no matter how 'Godly the message is. So many so called Christian artistes actually have 'radio friendly' versions of their songs (i.e. songs which deliberately obliterate Jesus or God from their lyrics). Many attempt to sing 'Christian' songs in such a way that it doesn't offend their non-christian record label executives. Others in an attempt to sound 'cool' actually mute out what message they may contain with too much beat.

The conclusion of the whole matter is that whateve music is inspired by the Spirit of God is Good enough for me. Deep calleth unto Deep.
Christianity EtcRe: Gospel Music Versus Secular Music by lafile(m): 1:39pm On Apr 11, 2007
I didnt get your take on gospel music styles. You seem to believe that some certain styles are demonic and cannot be used for gospel music. You also seem to suggest that supposed spiritual experiences in gospel music are more emotional than spiritual. more of the flesh than the spirit.

But how is it Gods fault that he had no legs? or that someone was attacked by armed robbers? where is Gods mistake in that? Gods chosing saul as king worked out well: is graphically shows what happens when man deliberately discards Gods will for his own.

mycc:
my dear friend, gospel music does not stand a chance. if every xtian will be truthfull there are more secular songs in our heads than gospel songs . we have more CDs recorded by secular artists than we have those recorded by gospel artists., most xtians preffer to pay N15,000 to see USHER than pay N5,000 to see DONNIE McCLURKIN., i have endless instances of xtians putting lyrics on tunes of secular artists so as to be heared by church folks.,, plssssssssssss
I dare say for me and most of my friends all you said can be proven wrong. i have over 4GB of music on my system right now, and apart from love songs for my wife (about 15) and manchester united anthems, i only have gospel music. there are so much more gospel songs in my head. I dont know lyrics of any secular songs recorded after 1999. (No rap songs after 1996). I wont go to any non gospel concert for free. I will pay N20,000 to see fred hammond or hezekiah walker anytime anyday. i spend a lot of time searching for the latest gospel songs online. its just my life. Dont get me wrong i do hear non-gospel songs everywhere, but they are not a part of me. I can enjoy the harmony, Vocal and musical arrangement, lyricists ability as per rap, but i am 101% into gospel music.

@TV01
This is a topic that truly interests me. I read your post twice but i get the feeling i didn't hit the core of what you are trying to say. Can you make your self a little bit clearer?

TV01:
Personally I find worship in song rings more true when I’m alone and singing acapella.
A very true statement indeed.

I have done some research on the origins of April fools day and there is nothing to conclusively say that April Fools day has the origin stated by Belloti. overwhelming evidence suggest British, French and Dutch origins.
Like Valentines day, a lot of stories have been told on the origins of April Fools day. The Story told by Belloti is just one of many.

Concerning the capitalised (and i dare say emphasised) EIGHT HUNDRED LONG YEARS OF MUSLIM RULE IN SPAIN, this is not historically correct. The Moors (North African Muslims) began their conquest of the Iberian pennisula in the early 8th century. Between 711 and 718, the entire pennisula was conquered. However, by 723, the reconquista (i.e. re-conquering) by Christian Kingdoms had started. By 739, the Moors were already driven out of the region of Galicia. By 1085, the entire Northern Half of Spain was in Christian hands. The last major strongholds Cordoba and Seville were concquered by 1248. Grenada which was alluded to by Belloti was a tributary state for a long time before it also fell. by 1469, the spanish throne was united under a christian mornach. So where did Belloti get his 800 years??

Man U trashing Roma and getting beyond Milan or Bayern is a foregone conclusion. This is our year. Remember we went thru the toughest clubs (Inter and Juve) to the treble 8 years ago. History is about to repeat itself.

As for Chelsea, y'all wont go beyond Valencia and Blackburn. Console yourself with the Carling Cup.

Liverpool, welcome to the big league. Dont dream of top spot sha, its not vacant.

Arsenal will be relegated to mid-table mediocrity next season, competing with reading, man city, fulham and Wigan. maybe they will make the intertoto cup

You quoted Hank Hanegraaff in one of your post. However to me, he seems to be a person who critisizes every preacher who get any form of popular following. I have never read him say anything good about anybody. But then again i havent read all he has written.

That said, I do disagree with some things some preachers say (here in Nigeria and in the US) but i really cant categorically say they are false prophets. Except the obvious ones like Rev. King. As much as i enjoy Creflo Dollar, I disagree with some things i have heard him say. same with Joyce Meyer. But I wont say they are false prophets. And I dont see anything wrong with a preacher being rich. its the extravagance and popsatr lifestyle that i dont like. the bible teaches moderation.
Christianity EtcRe: Jehovah's Witnesses: the only true religion? by lafile(m): 10:26am On Apr 03, 2007
JW's are one of the most inconsistent religious organisations in existence. Apart from those highlighted by Bobbyaf in his first post, i would also like to highlight a few more.

The Watchtower Society currently rejects most of the teachings of their first two leaders - its founder Charles Taze Russell (who was president of the organization from 1879-1916), and "Judge" Joseph Franklin Rutherford, who succeeded Russell as president from 1916 - 1942. These were called Gods spirit directed prophets in their days, but everything they stood for have been rejected. How can such an organisation be Gods only true body on earth? , how can we be sure that in 25 more years, Jehovah's Witnesses won't also reject the current president, Milton G. Henschel (1992 - present), as they did Russell and Rutherford?

The Watchtower organization claims "apostolic succession" for all its leaders, though there is no one who they can claim "passed the torch of God's Spirit" to C. T. Russell when he founded the organization.

There are so many inconsistencies in the New World Translation of tyhe Bible. You find that words are translated differently when they point to the deity of Jesus Christ.

JW is nothing more than an organisation with flaws using skewed notions to cover its flaws.

Christianity EtcRe: The True Sin In The Garden Of Eden: Eve Slept With Satan by lafile(m): 10:18am On Mar 26, 2007
Lots of people read the bible with a 'secret cult' mentality. They see Symbolism and mysticism in every sentence. My people not everything is figurative. The bible was not written by Lobsang Rampa or Dan Brown. It was revealed by God, a father who wants His Children to know Him, Love Him and Serve Him. He is not out to decieve. He will be Known by those you seek him with all their heart.
Christianity EtcRe: The True Sin In The Garden Of Eden: Eve Slept With Satan by lafile(m): 10:10am On Mar 26, 2007
This article is as stupid as any article can be. As pain said, it is the spirit of error at work. Its amazing what great lenghts people will go to make the bible say what it did not say so they can decieve the gullible.

In addition to the post by Stimulus
Gen 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

If what the article says is true, then God personally placed satan in the middle of the garden. Reading the verse above it is obvious that God was talking about trees and nothing but trees. It says God made all the trees mentioned to grow from the ground. satan definitely did nit grow from the ground. An if the tree represents satan, what do the other trees represent. And what else could God have meant by freely eat except eat? definitely not sex. The gist of this article is so absurd it is laughable that any sensible person will be so gullible as to believe.

Jimi Agbaje gave an impressive performance at the debate. Obanikoro is nothing but a glorified tout. Pedro made a lot of sense as well but his response to Agbajes insinuations was less than acceptable. Fashola spoke well but it seemed like it was something he memorised. Left to me i'll pick Agbaje for Governor anytime anyday. He seems to have more ideas and a clearer vision than the rest of the field. Pedro would also make a good governor. I get the feeling he will make a good administrator and a prudent manager of funds. Fashola, well, i guess we could do worse. Obanikoro, God forbid.
