The govt of Libya cannot really blamed if these guys dont have genuine documents but they should deprt them and not have them languishing in jails.

Read his speech again and u will see the principles of algebra, compass, navigation science, microbiology - spread of diseases, developments in andalusia and Corboda.  Even if the sky is blue u will call it red show some humility and accept the truth.

Anyway lets no deviate the topic and focus on the analysis of his speech, it is so different from Bushs era. I just hope he does more on the palestinian issue

when will muslims begin to give up extremists amongst their midst who blow people up in the name of God.
Obama and America will always be ok if the status quo remains, the onus lies in the hands of those who will benefit from the change Obama talks about to show some seriousness. If I was a Muslim in middle east I will take this opportunity seriously so that the world understands that not all Muslims with long beareds are terrorists.

However if the serious actions muslim expect from Obama is for Isreal to evaporate from the face of earth, then I am sorry. The stereotypes will continue, the status quo will fester and America will always be on top.

Saudi arabia and Egypt have thousands of muslims in their jails, for what they call extremism yet you guys say muslim leaders are not doing anything. We muslims criticise this leaders for jailing so many innocents as well who criticise their govts. Ever heard of CIA rendition most of the torture chamebers were in muslim countries.

I am only happy Obamas speech and i hope mindset is so different from some views here.

By the way i was impressed by him calling Iran what iran likes to call itself "Islamic republic of Iran" Bush never called iran that. I am begining to feel he means it when he talks about mutual respect

Extremist cannot convert to the call of Obama’s speech. We are not willing to look at the history of Islam and understand the problem is a foundational one. The Islamic prophet, Mohammad started the violence through his invention of Islam centuries ago. Mohammad advocated forced conversion to the Islamic religion and planted the seed of Hatred for the Jews and Non Muslims (Particularly Jews). Those who resisted Islamic religion were massacred. He did all these in the name of his Allah. Mohammad's murderous followers continued and widened his legacy after his death. The product is the problem we have today, women molestation, forced conversion, terrorism in the name of Allah.

The problem with Muslim is rooted from the very soil/inspiration behind the religion itself. No matter how fancy Obama’s speech turn out to be, people are always willing to “suicide bomb” for the sake of Allah. The problem is the concept/ Ideology of the religion itself but of course passive Muslims can differentiate between good and bad.

It seems you know more than obama , little why he neva made of your historical analysis in his speech.

It will be worthwhile if you read history with an open mind. You talked about forced conversion when islam forbids it Q2 v 254 says there is no compulsion in religion" i wonder where you got your forced conversion from.

You talked about massacres and invetion of violence , little wonder why biblical prophets fought wars in the name of God, little wonder why crusaders massacred the jews and fought the muslims.

Here is obama highlighting the scientific contributions of muslims to the world, all you have written is only just to incite the flames of the hatred obama is trying to kill. There is no doubt there are extreme elements among muslims but its just like any other faith has its own extremist.  

The priniciple of jihad exits in islam and it is the defence mechanism of the faith as everything God created he created a defence mechanism for. US spend hundreds of billions every year on defence which is violence.  Obamas speech is a masterpiece and his reference to Hamas is him accepting the reality people dont want to accept including you. Hamas is the only democratically elected govt in the whole arab world and you want him to ignore them. I am happy Obama is moving away from the Bush era and lets just fold our arms and watch if actions will follow the beautiful rhetoric

That is exactly what obamas is saying mutual respect and mutual interests. the onus is on the US to show they are changing from the ways of the past. You dont expect countries like Iran to just feel rhetoric is the same as actions. Actions will make these countries surely extend hands of friendship.

You should note there is a big difference between muslim world and the govt of muslim countries. These are 2 distinct entities, Iran and Syria are the only 2 countries in the middle east that are not already friends with the US even with Bush in power. Obama is addressing the muslim world in its entirety and not just the govts.

A female's voice should be minimal to that only her ill hear what she is reciting.

Your lips have to certainly move and there is nothing like reciting the verses in your mind your lips has to move.

From all I've been reading,Nawafils and some other non obligatory prayers like the one you say to great the mosque, are very important. What should someone who can only manage to say the obligatory solats because of work constraint do?

Nawafils are acts that move one closer to God. A muslim is encouraged to perform them to increase his/her spirituality and more reward.  It depends on your work hours but certainly 2 rakahs extra sometimes shouldnt be a big problem. You could perform nawafil after isha prayers. maghrib oor you could even wake up in the night to perform tahajud. Try to manage your time well and you will realise you have some free 5-10 mins to perform nawafil prayers. However like we said nawafil arent compulsory but encouraged for a muslim. Also try to spend in charity, community work as these are all nawafil acts and not just salah.

I pray very slowly, I can't help it, is this why I get distracted (thoughts wise) alot during solat? If so or if not, what should I do?

There is no one person here that can say his/her concentration during salah is 100% , we all strive and try to and the reward lies in the sincere effort. Praying slowly isnt bad as rushing the prayer is bad. praying slowly in moderation should aid concentration and not distract it. The prophet recommended we treat each salah like its the last before we meet our Lord but unfortunately only few people do including myself. We are all striving may Allah grant us the tawfeeq to increase and perform sincere ibadah to him

To provide a succinct description of the context, Obama is trying to negotiate a peace deal with the aggressive Lions. Let’s hope this nice speech will make a difference to the Muslim world.

It will make a difference if the speech and nice words are backed with actions, then the muslim world will start to see there might be real change comming afterall to overwrite the wrongs of the past.

@Poster seriously i can understand ur feelings but if ur based in naija then i am sure u will get help and it will not be much of a hassle. My elder sister and bro only had 11 months between them which means my dad did a good job just 2 months after my sista was born.

Although i hate the moral aspect of the saudi government formation, i have to confess they serve their people and the political administration is excellent. I do business in the oil industry and i have worked on Aramco projects and have loads of saudi friends there, it makes me wonder why peopel say state owned companies never do well. Aramco is the pride of Saudi , it could compete well with shell, Exxon in terms of organisation, management and technology. Aramco is dominated and run by saudis themselves, highly educated and intelligent engineers. Whereas NNPc is d cradle of corruption, the epitome of misadministration, the peak of mediocrity, it is fact shit in its optimum manifestation.

Comparing Saudi governance to Nigeria is like comparing shit to cake i hate to say.

I cannot but always wonder why we as African cannot most of the time maintain our identity,our culture and values. We always want to toe the line of westerners and doing all they do that has to do with their culture and traditions. One can hardly hear about divorce or unfaithfulness but what do we have on our hands today? Divorcee all the places. A white man or woman gets married today and tommorow you see hi/her going to court for divorce and re-marrying again. What do we call such man or woman? They can give the flimsiest of reason for divorcing all in a bid to go into their adultrous relationship.

Rather than do that,is it not better to have different sizes and shapes you need in a woman as wives for yourself if you can afford it as long as the women have no objection to being in the relationship. Millions of weeding rings has been thrown into the lagoon as a result of infidelity. What then is so special about wearing this ring or not wearing it? Going spiritual,i want to add that most of the people God most loved in the holy bible are even polygamist. God is really not concerned about how many wife you have or do not have but only concerned himself with your heart. Ring is never an issue,please.

All these people clamouring for monogamy have several concubines and many girls will date married men otherwise how are these married men having girlfirends in the first insatnce. If you can sleep with a married man, enjoy his money it is hypocritical to condemn polygamy.

Some do some dont , it depends on the culture, religion and so on. The ring is not an issue of importance at all as far as i am concerned for men especially. How many of our fathers wear wedding rings lets look inwards first.

In as much as i am advocate of state police i do fear politicians will abuse them and use them to rig elections in their favour. The federal police is being used by the federal govt and state police will be used by state governors as well. I cant imagine what Akala will do with a state police in oyo neither can i fathomise what oyinlola will do not to talk of the volatile Anambra state.

The main issue here is people started to play with the divorce thing and repeating it three times, there is an hadith which says some sahabas said it and the prophet (AS) said are u playing with the verses of allah whille i am still in your midst? If their understanding wasnt that the triple talaq equals final talaq Umar will never have taken the man serious. The bottom line is people should not indulge in this triple talaq thing but when it is said according to hanafi and maliki fiqh it stands.

I dont think there is any point debating this divorce issue here as this ikhtilaf has been in existence for the past 700 years since Ibn Taymiyyah queried the triple talaq. The difference will always be there till the day of judgement, some scholars accept it and some dont. Its like other fiqh issues, the scholars that acknowledge treble talaq do it based on their understanding of the ayahs and life of the sahabas, Imam ibn taymiyyah that sttod up against it did it based on his understanding of the ayas as well. Although i hold on to ibn Taymiyyahs view of triple talaq or multiple talaq is still 1 talaq i cannot condemn the earliers imams opinion because it is their understanding of the sayings of the prophet and ayahs.

I quite appreciate what DPA's is doing and they are the only visible opposition in Lagos state. Jimi agbaje i want to believe is a man of immense intellect and despite DPa not have any poliitcal office is still doing a decent job in opposition. We should not all be carried away with the media hype around Fashola (although he he is on the right track), we should be able to level constructive critisicm at his policies and programmes.

15% to Alpha beta in my opinion is outrageous and sumthing around 5% will suffice. They should comeout to tell us the structure of alpha beta and how the 15% came about. Fashola is not finanicially clean in governance as well as his boss Tinubu we should all bare that in mind. Lagosians should raise the bar of governance and not compare Fashola to other governors as Lagos is and will forever be different to other states.

Well done DPA as their attacks on Fashola is not personal attacks like PDP but policy attack!!

The question is which muslims are you referring to As far as i know 90% of the muslims i have come across in my life dont give a shit about the bible or the contents. The quran is their sole source of inspiration and knowledge. Muslims interested in comparative religous knowledge are those that arm themsleves with bible knowledge and there are quite a number of Nigerian muslims like this.

They arm themselves due to the many harrassment they face at work , schools, univerisites, bus stops, molues, hospitals from christian preachers who harrass them and condemn them to hell by quoting verses of the bible to them. These preachers spreading the gospel do not believe in the quran and will not even believe any verse quoted from it so how do muslims tackle them. I have faced these harrassment many times in my life and i have read the bible from genesis to revelation as well as study omparative religion a great deal but i chose not to dwell on it except i face harrassment .

I remember the harrassment i got from some jehovah withnesses when i use to live in Leicestershire, they came to my house every single weekend and sometimes weekdays evening , this was because of the reception and hospitality i gave them the first time and maybe they thought it was a sign of weaknes on my part and i could be an easy prey. In the end , after comming with their most learned of priests over several weeks, they gave up in humilation at not been able to answer so many of my questions.

I respect christians choice to be a christian and wish to be respected at our choice of been muslims. Lets live in peace and harmony amidst our differences.

scholars have always advised muslims not to engage in such triple talaq as it is not a proper and good way of divorce. Olabs will definately not do such , your sista is in safe hands
