ABUJA — IT has come to light that over $150 million of the $180 million Halliburton bribe money was allegedly disbursed through the account of [b]former Chief of Air Staff, AVM A.D. Bello (rtd), while the sum of $11.5 million of the bribe money was found in Ibrahim Aliyu’s foreign account, according to sources at the Special Investigation Panel headed by Inspector-General of Polic[/b]e, Mike Okiro.
However, investigators are shocked that AVM Bello is sticking to his defence that though the account through which the $180 million was disbursed was his, he had no knowledge of when or how the huge sum of money was disbursed and who the beneficiaries were.

AVM Bello (rtd) was also a former Managing Director of defunct national carrier, Nigeria Airways, while Ibrahim Aliyu is a brother to the governor of Niger State, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu.

Both men have been in detention for some time after their arrest by the investigation panel.

Vanguard gathered that the federal government also at the weekend requested the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to extradite one Mr. Jeffery Tessler, a Briton and lawyer of both AVM Bello and Ibrahim Aliyu who allegedly disbursed the $180 million bribe money through their accounts to help reveal the names of the beneficiaries.

Consequently, the investigating team, led by CP Amodu Ali of the Special Investigation Unit of the Police Force headquarters has no iota of doubt that Air Vice Marshal Bello (rtd) was in a position to disclose the beneficiaries of the Halliburton bribery money and the amount each of them got.

According to Vanguard sources, one of the accounts in question is an off-shore account opened in London for Bello by Jeffery Tessler. He (Bello) said that the account was opened in 2001 and that towards the end of that year (2001), he closed that account to any transaction whatsoever, and was therefore at a loss to how the account was used.
Having tried to reach the lawyer (Tessler) and failed, the Police investigating team asked AVM Bello to furnish it with documents of the offshore account showing that he closed down the account in 2001 and that he was not aware of any transaction with it.

This, our sources said, he has failed to do for almost two weeks now.
Asked how such account could be in operation over a period of time and the documents of transaction carried out with it could not be traced, the source said such offshore accounts don’t need to have directors to be opened, rather what they have is a nominee director and Mr. Tessler is the only nominee director.

“That is why we have requested our American counterparts to intervene on our behalf over the arrest of Mr. Tessler and we are aware that motions have been put in place for the extradition of Mr Tessler to America to answer questions.

Ibrahim Aliyu’s role

On the role of the brother of the governor of Niger State, the source said the same Mr. Tessler who is based in the UK, is both a business partner and lawyer to Ibrahim Aliyu and that he was the one Aliyu used to open an offshore account through which he (Aliyu) was to concretise his ownership of an oil block in Nigeria.

The source noted that when the account was opened in a Swiss bank, a huge amount of money from the Halliburton bribery money was found to have been moved through it while the sum of $11.5million was found in the account. He added that about $5million was also frozen from the same Aliyu’s account by the foreign investigators.

Asked how long it would take before the names of those already made known by foreign investigators of having taken part in the sharing of the $180million was made public, the source said: “That is why we are going the extra mile to get Mr. Tessler because he disbursed the money.”

It will be recalled that following public outcry over the $180million Halliburton bribery scandal, the Federal Government set up a five-man inter-agency investigation panel headed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mike Okiro.

Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Michael Aondoakaa, inaugurated the panel on April 21, 2009, and charged it to, among others, examine the circumstances surrounding the Halliburton bribery scandal in the Bonny Liquefied Natural Gas Project

A senior officer involved in the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard that by the time names are being mentioned in the coming days or we see the calibre of persons that are arrested, Nigerians would be shocked. He added that time has come for Nigerians to be told the truth about what is happening to their country.

Indications are also rife that more important personalities, including very senior citizens of the country both in and outside government are among those indicted. Past ministers, and top government officials would soon be picked up as investigations progresses because of information available to the investigating team, the source said.

These people are definately Nigerian citizens and they should be treated as one. Descrimination of any kind should be stopped. For the last time i will explain this to you. First you dont understand arabic and depend on translations. The literal meaning of aqsa in farthest but in the science of tafseer we have three methods of giving the exegis(tafseer) of the quran - By Language, By the hadeeth and by the quran itself.

The arabic word used in the quran was , "ila masjidil aqsa". The english translation could retain the arabic word or translate it literally which makes it lose its full meaning. You should also understand that every single translated quran calls itself " translation of the meanings of the qaran" and not "translation of the quran" This is because arabic is so deep and rich that for example a language like english cannot do justice to all the verses in terms of conveying the full meaning.

Making reference to the earliest translation is irelevant here becasue The first english quran was i think by either yusuf Ali in 1920's or Mahmud Pickthall. The understanding on the verse by every single scholar 1300 years before translation was that it referred to jerusalem and these was based on the prophets (PBUH) hadeeth.

Masjid in arabic morphology (Sarf) which i have studied to a good extent is derived from makkana  Sujud (Place of prostration). Masjid in islam doesnt not literally refer to mousques as in the same surah 17 u are quoting from Allah referred to the temple of the earlier prophets as masjids and these was way before muhammed.

So when the prophet reffered to the aqsa he wasnt literally refering to a mousque like the one of the muslims today. It will be interesting to note that the prophet (PBUH) was in makkah when this verse was revealed and there was no proper mosque in makkah as the qureish were still hostile to the 70 - 100 muslims. Also the 5 daily salah was not practised then so his companions definately did not understand that verse to mean a mosque where the 5 daily salah was offered like we have today as none of this was practised then.

The masjid meant a place where the earlier prophets worshipped which even predates solomon as David was supposed to build a temple on that site. The site is what is holy and not just the building as the building as been destryoed several times.

You either agrree or you disagree and i will not be dragged into another cycle of arguement as u know me well i dont argue to win at all cost but rather to simply articulate my points.

Former Private 1st Class Steven Green also killed Abeer Qassim al-Janabi's father, mother and six-year-old sister.

The federal court jury that delivered guilty verdicts on all 16 counts against former Green will decide his fate in the trial's death penalty phase that begins on Monday.

The 24-year-old was tried in federal court in Paducah, Kentucky, as a civilian on murder, rape and obstruction of justice charges because his arrest came after he was discharged from the US Army later in 2006 for a "personality disorder."

The jury heard prosecution testimony by Green's former comrades in which they detailed the brutal assault, one of several incidents involving US soldiers that enraged Iraqis and strained relations between the two countries.

Green was described as the trigger-man in the group of five men, who donned black "ninja" outfits before carrying out the crimes.

The incident unfolded after the soldiers drank whiskey, played cards, and plotted the attack in Mahmudiya, 20 miles south of Baghdad.

Green, from Midland, Texas, was described by prosecutors as being predisposed to killing Iraqis.

Defence lawyers acknowledged he participated in the killings but argued he was suffering combat stress after the death of close colleagues and did not know friend from foe.

Three of the other soldiers pleaded guilty in the attack and the fourth was convicted, all in military courts-martial. They received sentences ranging from five to 100 years, although they could be paroled much sooner.

I must confess its like this is my first time on this thread and the insults and abuses on the first 3 pages is just unfortunate to be in a religous thread. My observation has been religious bias kills peoples intellect and intelligence.

Otherwise how on earth would we be arguing over the name of God. Before Christianity came to Yoruba land and the religion was paganism, Eledumare was reserved for God, After Christianity God is still called Eledumare without any misunderstanding of who they were referring to.

There is a misconception here and I will try to explain perhaps some bros or sis might have explained it before. The pagan arabs in Arabia believed in Allah (God) they did believe in him but the reasons they were called pagans was that they worshipped him through lesser deities e. Lat, Uzza, alah and other idols. These was they same situation in Yoruba land the yorubas believed in the paramount supreme being of Eledumare but worshipped him through shango, Orunmilla, osun and co. My evidence in Q39 v 3 “ …those who take protectors besides Him say “ we worship them (idols) only that they may bring us near to Allah”. Verily Allah will judge between them concerning what they differ…”

Another verse is Q29 v 61 And if you were to ask them ; “who created the heavens and the earth and subjected the moon ?” They will sure reply “Allah”. How then are they deviating (as pagans and disbelievers).

The normal and natural thinking of human inclines to the acknowledgement of a supreme being somewhere but what differentiates us is the concept of worship of this true Supreme Being.

The pagans of makkah weren’t pagans because they did not believe in Allah; they did believe and they weren’t atheist . They were pagans because they did not reject the false idols and false systems.

Allah says in the quran 2 v256  “ La ikraha fi deen…………, wa mon yakfuru bi taghut wa yuminu billah…”

“There is no cumplusion in religion ………………, whoever rejects the taghut(idols , false systems etc) and believes in Allah…, ” The condition is to first reject the idols then believe in Allah which the pagans did not comply hence them being disbelievers.

The notion that Allah muslims call is the Allah the pagans called when the bear Abdullah is correct because the pagans believed the creation of the earth was by Allah and they accepted him but worshiped him thru idols and that is the kufr.

The allegation of the Christians here concerning this name is baseless as I have explained it above and gave an example of Christianity calling God eledumare in Yoruba land and Eledumare predates Christianity in Yoruba land. This issue of language and name is so trivial and that is why I said religious bias kill peoples intellect and intelligence.
