*What about helping the relations of the gallant-dead officers? No way, from now on, the family of those Policemen will start suffering. YOU SAY WHY? President Goodluck Jonathan has stepped into the row sparked by the N9billion variation on the contract sum for the new official residence of Vice President Namadi Sambo.
The project was originally planned to cost N7billion.
A request for the approval of the National Assembly foran additional N9billion for the purpose of providing furniture, fence, two protocol guest houses, a banquet hall and security gadgets has provoked outrage across the country.
President Jonathan is said to be dismayed by the controversy trailing the request and asked to be briefed by Vice President Sambo on the issue.
The Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory has already written to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, which is constructing the mansion, to justify the increase in contract sum.
During an inspection visit to the site by the Senate Committee, the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Adamu Ismail had said the project was awarded in 2009 at thecost of N7billion.
He said the additional N9 billion was required to provide furniture, fencing, two additional protocol guest houses, a banquet halland other security gadgets.
Ismail said the new proposal was not included in the original scope of work being handled by Julius Berger.
The Senate Committee is insisting on investigating the reasons advanced for the variation of the contract sum.
A reliable source familiar with the matter said the Executive arm was studying the observations of the Senate Committee.
He said the President had received brief from the Vice-President and relevant officials in the Ministry of Federal Capital Territory and the FCDA on the contract.
It was gathered that the Vice-President felt personally touched that his hard-earned image was dragged into the project which is to house him and his successors.
Another source added: “The VP was uncomfortable with the position of the Senate Committee on the residential building and the backlash. He has made his opinion known to the President.
“The President is however getting brief from all sides connected with the project on the increase in the contract sum.
“As a matter of fact, a top government official met informally with the Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Smart Adeyemi, to verify facts and figures on the project. The meeting with Adeyemi took about one and a half hours.
“The Executive has not taken any decision on whether to review the contract upward or retain the original cost. The ongoing briefing by all parties involved in the contract would determine the position of the Executive.”
But the Senate Committee is going ahead with the verification of the contract sum.
Another source said: “The Senate Committee has written the construction giant to submit its Bill of Quantity, design and any other document that could support its demand for the variation of the contract sum.
“Once we have got a response from the construction company, we will ask other experts to analyze its submission.
“We want to be as transparent as possible to ensure that we are acting only in the public interest.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator Smart Adeyemi, who spoke with our correspondent last night, said: “The issues we raised about the contract do not amount to undermining the government in any form. Weare also not out to embarrass public officers orany party whatsoever.
“As part of the transformation agenda of the government, we did ourbit as Senators to expose why a project conceived at N7billion would attract additional N9billion. We acted in good faith and in the interest of the public.
“It is left to the Executive to look at the issues in question and take necessary steps on the future of the contract. This committee is not a trial court but we owethis nation a duty to ensure that it has value for money on any project.”
Concerning allegations that the committee has compromised due to pressure, Adeyemi added: “We have not compromised,we have not chickened out. We have made our position known and we are going further to collate facts and figures for the public to judge.
“After we have completed our assignment, it is left to Nigerians to judge.”
The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Adamu Ismail had Ismail told the lawmakers that the proposed additional N9 billion has been slashed to about N6 billion by the Bureau for Public Procurement (BPP).
He said: “We have worked out the details and passed to BPP for consideration.
“They (BPP) have sent it back to us with their observation.
“We requested for N9 billionbut now it came to about N6 billion.”
Adeyemi said either N13billion or N14 billion or N16billion for the project is indefensible in view of present realities.

When did Buhari attend NDA and what was the admission requirement as of that DATE?

Remember that NDA just began awarding DEGREE- EQUIVALENT Certificate about Three decades ago but Buhari attended about 1962 (before it was even renamed NDA in 1964!)

Back then, Boyz like him were just drafted into the NDA without even a care about five Credits in English and Mathematics as we have today.
Ofcourse, the School did not by then, award them a Bachelors degree as we have today.

While l agree that being TRUTHFUL is very important in Leadership, l think we are paying too much attention to lesser things.
We are ALL NOT IN DOUBT that Buhari is educated enough to contest a Presidential election. Period.

But have you considered if a Leader has the Charisma to "talk to other producers" and convince them to follow suit?
It's all about having a personality that is respected.

Even just by cutting our own production, and asking our friends to do same, we can form a critical mass, enough to affect supply, which has a bearing on price.

Now, all this is "speculation" on our part since Buhari has not even told us EXACTLY how he intends to influence Oil prices but what l am driving at is that it is not totally impossible as some are saying.

A Party claiming to be "Change", yet its symbol of change Corporal Buhari is still hopelessly stuck in the stone age lives one to wonder what manner of change they are looking for. APC cannot be taken seriously as far as the word "Change" is concerned. Heck, they don't even understand the word change itself.

I remember vividly when Gov Adams Oshiomole of Edo State disgraced a female school teacher on camera because she was unable to read properly during one of his numerous "Go N Die" inspection tour across the state. The gov blurted out then that he couldn't understand why a school teacher in the 21st century is unable to read fluently, a situation he said was terrible and unbelievable. This incident almost led to the sacking of the entire Edo state school teachers that failed to meet the educational qualifications for teachers as part of the drive to improve standard of education.
In the end, the teachers were asked to upgrade their educational qualifications or face sack.

If teachers (Especially the poor woman that was publicly disgraced and humiliated by Oshiomole) can be ordered to UPGRADE their CERTIFICATES to meet the requirements and challenges of the 21st century teaching for teachers, I see no reason why Buhari would use an AFFIDAVIT to vie for the number "One Position" in Nigeria in the 21st CENTURY. The country's Constitution must be Obeyed because Nigeria at the moment is witnessing change in the form of "Order and Rules". Just because he (Buhari) escaped with affidavit in 2003,2007, and 2011 doesn't mean he will escape it again in 2015. The time has come for Buhari to SHOW his school certificate to the Nigerian public.

If you understand English at all, you will notice that [b]"It means you must not have LESS THAN SCHOOL CERT.... but you can have ABOVE SCHOOL CERT!

Now, according to the PDP, Buhari attended U.S Army war College which awarded him a "DIPLOMA"! (This is PDP speaking!)
If we even accept that that is the ONLY SCHOOL he attended, can we agree that a DIPLOMA is HIGHER than a SCHOOL CERT and therefore, Buhari has met and surpassed the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS to contest for Presidency?

Or are you saying that SCHOOL CERT is HIGHER THAN A DIPLOMA (whether ordinary or Higher Diploma)?

*Are you not aware that Buhari graduated from the Nigerian Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies?

*Are you not aware that Buhari attended and graduated from Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot in England, United Kingdom (Mons OCS was officially closed down in 1972)?

Are all theses EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS LESS THAN A SCHOOL CERT? ....Or HIGHER?

Buhari is a Military man and as that, he has attended and done brilliantly in all ACADEMIC trainings prescribed along his profession.
Jonathan claimed he is a "Lecturer" so he attended within the civilian University as well.

But in terms of who is more prepared as a STATESMAN, to lead a country, by virtue of their EDUCATIONAL and PROFESSIONAL TRAINING, Buhari beats Jonathan hands down.

There is no basis for comparison between GEJ and Buhari, the distinction between the two is like night and day. If somehow you are unable to recognize the monumental ineptitude of Jonathan, then you are not intelligent.

Democracy is overrated, as a matter of fact, what you have in Nigeria right now is not a democracy in the real sense. By the way, of what use is democracy if the people can't enjoy its dividends? Stop regurgitating nonsense western propaganda used in deceiving the gullible. Democracy is not perfect, it doesn't work everywhere. What good has 15 years of democracy in Nigeria brought you?

Jonathan's position as president is untenable, a known fact to any reasonable person, Buhari may be a relic from the past but he's the lesser of two evils. I'd much rather have a former dictator with a plan than a lame duck of a president out of touch with reality.

What manner of DEMOCRACY is it when someone is elected on the ticket of "Party A", only to jump to "Party B" without loosing his seat (and the position declared VACANT) and another election organised?
Take a cue from that Labour guy who decamped to UKIP in Britain and his constituent seat was declared vacant. A new election was conducted though he also won back that same seat on the UKIP ticket.
That is DEMOCRACY at work. In Nigeria, Politicians just "trade their tickets" for money and personal gains, leaving the public wondering what happened!

What manner of DEMOCRACY is it when the Politician you voted for, based on a particular promise in his manifesto, changes gear after election and you have no POWER OF RECALL?
In saner climes, elected public officials are recalled if they fumble and dont stick to what they promised the electorate.
In Nigeria, impeachment is only used to "arm-twist" the Presidency to give-in to Salary increase for our 'Legis-looters'!

What manner of Democracy is it where the electoral law says no candidate should "raise and spend" more than a particular amount of money for his electioneering campaign and when one candidate raises "Billions of Naira" (from "vested" interests of course), everybody from INEC, to EFCC, to Police, to anyone who is suppose to question this criminality, develops amnesia and starts giving silly excuses like "I am not aware"!

What manner of DEMOCRACY is it that people cant get their Voters card only to emerge that their GHOST have voted for a particular candidate, after the election!

What manner of DEMOCRACY is it that Soldiers who are supposed to be battling Boko Haram up North, are being used to harrass and intimidate voters in an election down-West, when regular Police can, and are supposed to do such duties?

What manner of DEMOCRACY is it that the Leadership openly lies to the people that "subsidy removal" will be cushioned with provision of Transport palliatives like Buses.... which no one has seen yet the extra #32 increase is being ripped-off the people on a daily basis and even more importantly, the people are just helpless to do anything about it?

Nigeria is NOT a DEMOCRACY, we are just a bunch of self-Centred but generally foolish people who know what is good for them but trade their future for a Congo of Rice and a Litre of Groundnut Oil, christened "Stomach Infrastructure"......

When we are truly ready for DEMOCRACY, we will demand for it ...and get it but for now, we can continue to delude ourselves and let clueless-ness reign supreme.
