Security is the number one problem before prosperity. If Yoruba were a country this would not have happened. Hausa were never attacked in Yoruba land before Nigeria. The cause of it is Nigeria. However Hausa are the only ones with the confidence to attack people on their own land. They do it in Kaduna and Jos too while Igbos are the only ones who think they are better than other people while in the land of those other people. It is all unfortunate. Igbos are not violent but it may be because they are not in power. The only solution of course is to break up the country into manageable units. Any Yoruba that is in Europe, Hausa land or Igbo land that can not bow to and work with the owners of those cultures will be rejected by Yoruba at home. If you find it difficult to flow with the majority, then you have a problem and should check yourself. All these lands are sacred and nobody conquered anybody. |
Ibadanpikin:Big population despite negligible government or even corporate assistance |
What civilization entails is living in cities and the Yoruba have been doing it for 10065 years at least or since Earth became habitable. A typical pre industrial Yoruba state is a city surrounded by small towns and villages. Development is division of labour to produce a variety of things to enrich the life of the masses in cities. Development is not more than that. Building of houses is not really development. Development is joining of hands together in organisation. The most successful city on its own in Nigeria is Ogbomosho. In precolonial Nigeria it was Ibadan etc etc |
tonytony208:You are daft because he does not have to introduce himself as Igbo before you know he is Igbo. He is a nationalist Igbo who thinks the Yoruba are trained to hate Igbos. Isn't that obvious?. |
Patebere:People are not fowls. To kill anybody at all that did not commit murder would be wrong. |
tonytony208:Just like you love yourself and hate fellow Igbos. Everybody is fighting for self preservation whether as a human being, family lineage or nation |
Ogunda Owonrin II I II I I I I II Ogunda (Creation) on the right and Owonrin (Scarcity) on the left. Ogunda (Creation) or Action is ruling while Owonrin (Scarcity) is acting on it. In this scenario, creation is not happening, it is very scarce. If it appears to a query of what should I do?. It means do not do anything!. A man made King who yet is making good luck charms!. Ask him if he is planning to become God!. This was the Ifa cast for some of the scientists of the Earth that believe evolution is still going on. They were asked to sacrifice They listened and complied Listen to this! People of the world You will never evolve into something more than being able to write a PhD thesis! You are the pinnacle of creation. King here on Earth. Eni nfe iku ku Ni nfe obinrin ode Koloransi eniyan Ni nfe obinrin iseegun Eni di eru koto to mu osuka Ni nfe obinrin Babalawo A difa fun Ogirisasa agbe To ni ohun o gba obinrin Edu Ojo Yi Eerun yi E o mo PE Ifa nbe! Only a person ready to die Has an affair with a hunter's wife Only a stupid fellow Has an affair with an herbalist's wife A person that prepared osuka to carry a heavy load. Is like who wants to have an affair with a Babalawo's wife This was the Ifa cast for Ogirisasa Agbe (An illustrious farmer) Who said he is going to take the wife of Edu (Orunmila) By this season or next You will know how powerful Ifa is!. |
Pepperdem88:Once you meet strangers, you can not be self sufficient again. No country is self sufficient. If you are self sufficient it means you are poor. The things you don't produce that others produce enrich your life and there will always be things like that. The greatness of a nation is the ability to join hands together and do things together and you get ahead faster that way, the other greatness is how many people are joining hands together which is the population. SW produce and SE produce. Do I need to list the products?. |
bjdon:It does not really work like that. Lagos is still largely indigenous and even if it is not, only people agreeable with the dominant group can have good success in the state. The way to succeed outside one's territory or home is to submit to the dominant culture of the place you are. Imagine Yorubas trying to seize PH from the original people just because they are succeeding in the city. They have to work with and not at cross purposes with the people on ground controlling the institutions. The other way is armed struggle and I think that is no longer possible in today's world. There is no need for any group attempting to upset the demography or control of any land. I for one think the Gwari should assert themselves more in Abuja. Teach kids the language in schools and stamp the Gwari culture on Abuja like a badge. Everything must survive as it is on its land. Since all ethnic nations have land, it is not right for any group to covertly or overtly try to seize control over the land of others. Not right even if they are the majority. Therefore non Yorubas that want to be relevant in Lagos should Yorubanize or align with the Yoruba not work at cross purposes with them. Self preservation is a reflex action |
DodadaKoKigbe:It is a case of psychiatric disorder and killing is not the solution. They can be restrained easily. They kill regularly and if people go to court to stop them from public practice of Christianity and Islam, it is a good step. After all what they promote is immorality and violence. If the court does not grant the prayers, it can be possible for the family of the next victims to sue the judges for damages since they will also be culpable, then re approach the courts to ask again. At the end the only thing that will happen is the ban of the public practice of those barbaric theologies. Just a matter of time and a good litigation team can get results with first try. It is about begging the judges and appealing to their emotions. Freedom of religion exists but freedom that inhibits other people's freedom is not included and freedom to practice barbarism can only be behind closed doors. It is the only way forward |
I don't know what is special about Ilorin or any other piece of land. Jebba was established before and was bigger than Ilorin and a city bigger than Abuja or Lagos can be built in Jebba |
YouAreNobody:Let us even assume it is Fulani land and they identify and are accepted as Fulani. It would still be a dot of Fulani territory in a sea of Yoruba land, surrounded completely by Yoruba land on all sides. It is like saying one of the states in China is a Nigerian land. You see why someone making such a statement may be considered mentally impaired?. Then what Ilorin can be is offshore Fulani territory if that is what the owners of Ilorin want it to be and to reach the rest of the Fulani country they will have to pass through Yoruba land or Yoruba airspace |
Elliotwaveforec:Hausas don't call themselves Gambari just like Yorubas don't call themselves Beerebe. Anybody called Gambari was so named by Yoruba people. In Ilorin it means your compound was founded by an Hausa man but no Ilorin man is an Hausa man. They are all Yoruba. In Kano, they will have Beerebe compound with Magaji and that compound was founded by a Yoruba man and the head of that compound is a descendant of a Yoruba man while he himself is Hausa. There is at least one Kano governor from that compound. |
Bimpe29:You are ignorant. Very ignorant. Do you know God more than Orunmila, Oduduwa etc?. Those were real men of God that were perfect people not war mongering Mohammed or racist Jesus Christ. Educate yourself |
Gossiphub:Like what will people leave SW to go and buy in SE?. Electronics is in Alaba and car parts in Ladipo. However maybe Igbo retailers go to buy in the East but it amounts to a waste of energy and scarce resources. More than 30 percent of Alaba traders are Ijebu people. I think what it can be possible to import from Onitsha to Lagos are mass produced sewed clothes, shoes etc and the volume can't be much because they are produced in the West too. Then Easterners come to the West to buy things like automobiles, poultry stock and etc. However everything goes back to population and the West is more than double the East in population. Maybe like 2.5 times. That however is to be expected because the SW is also much bigger than the SE. Given the size, the SE is prosperous but it needs bigger cities. Big cities are important. |
Cultural affinity, Language, DNA and etc. Relations do not need to share much DNA. Infact people from the same compound in Yoruba land sometimes have no idea how they are related but they know they share a common paternal or institutional ancestor, more rarely a common maternal ancestor because of sons in law that were admitted into the family. Similarity in DNA make up among extended family is always negligible. Heritage is more important and that is the affinity they share. Wives are taken by men only from families to which any common descent from any side can not be traced. If you want to marry a lady and you discover in her family tree, one of your own ancestors, then according to Yoruba custom at least, the marriage will be cancelled. Therefore the average Yoruba person is considerably genetically removed from anybody they marry. It is like that in most parts of the world. From the above, it can be seen that being genetically distant as a nation from another nation does not mean there is no affinity. Just like genetic distance between people from the same Yoruba compound is not an indication that they are unrelated. Affinity being by heritage and heritage includes language and culture. Using language metrics, the Yoruba share considerable affinity with the Igboid and Edoid groups. The Igboid is more significant because Igbos were not known to the Yoruba before colonization while the Edoid groups are neighbors to the Yoruba. The most significant component of the Yoruba language however is the Kemitic Egyptian conponent because Egypt is faraway. Another very significant component of the Yoruba language is the Bantu component. Yoruba is the only language in Southern Nigeria with a Bantu component. The most prominent Bantu language is Swahili. Yoruba is also classified as semi bantu and the people of the Bantu expansion could only have been proto Ife people. Not modern Yoruba of course because the Egyptian component was yet to be added at the time of the Bantu expansion. The language spoken then would be unintelligible today. However in all Bantu languages, iku is the word for death just like it is in Yoruba, Baba, Bantu or a similar word is the word for man just like it is the word for old man in Yoruba. All these Bantu features and more, compelled linguists to separately classify Yoruba of all Southern Nigerian languages as semi Bantu being similar to South African languages. These are evidences that the Bantu expansion to South Africa may have been via the Atlantic from the Yoruba coast thousands of years ago. However it must have also happened from different directions including from the Cameroon area. Similarity in language is a clear indication of affinity even if similarity in DNA does not accentuate it. As a matter of fact, you don't need any DNA similarity to be family as shown by the example of people from the same Yoruba compound but when you hear similar language, that is a clear evidence of affinity even if no significant DNA evidence. The pre colonial Yoruba vocabulary have words from all over including the languages of the old Roman and Persian empires and it is also an indication of affinity. The study of languages is an interesting academic endeavor which needs more scholarly work like other sectors of human endeavor. Majority of our earliest ancestors were North Africans who could understand themselves without hitches but we now have more than seven thousand distinct languages on Earth today. Some languages have common ancestors like Spanish and French, English and German, some are totally different, some are a fusion of adjacent languages in structure and vocabulary, some are totally unexplainable isolates and other categories. |
Ogbe ika II I I I II I II I Ogbe (Support) on the right and Ika (Limit or boundary) on the left. It is limit acting on support. Support is ruling. It implies the limit or farthest extent of support or alignment. When you give your all for somebody, you are doing Ogbe ika for that person. An example is how Barbara Bush junior staked her life for myself. I will stake my life and all my being on him. This was the Ifa cast for Barbara Bush junior On the day she agreed to be betrothed anonymously to Akin Lawanson so that her family can dig in to save him from Enoch Adeboye a human ritualist trusted by people as a Pastor and leader of tens of millions of Christians of the RCCG that included Akin Lawanson and his family as at then. She was asked to sacrifice She listened to the ritual items and complied. People of the world! It was the sacrifice of Barbara Bush junior that saved Akin Lawanson from being killed by the very people he trusted led by the evil clergy man!. No woman has ever been more wife to any man like Barbara Bush is wife to Akin Lawanson If Ogbe Ika appears to a query of what should I do?. It means give total support, do your best and etc. I want to craft a Yoruba proverb into Ogbe Ika as follows EMI ni ngo je ki obe Yi dun A difa fun Akere Ti nse elegbe lehin eni to nse obe Won ni ko rubo O gbebo o rubo Akere ni 'Kaka ki ohun ma dun be yi, ti apa ti itan oun lo ma run si!'. I will make this stew palatable This was the Ifa cast for Akere (The Crab). The helper of the stew chef It was asked to sacrifice It listened to the ritual items and complied. Akere said 'Rather than not succeed in making this stew palatable my arms and legs will crumble in it!' The formulated story is about a common proverb talking about how the crab goes into the stew whole and by the end of making the stew, it's arms and legs are always crumbled into the stew. Observers over time inferred that the crab lost those limbs during it's efforts to make the stew palatable! Ogbe ika was cast for Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi late former governor of the Western state of Nigeria as what to do for the visiting head of state of Nigeria General Ironsi who Army mutineers came to arrest during the coup detat of 1966. Northern coup plotters wanted to arrest and execute the head of state while he was the guest of the governor of the Western state of Nigeria, Governor Fajuyi said No that it will not happen in Ibadan. It was said that people like late General Muritala prostrated to beg him to let them have their way but he bluntly refused. He was killed execution style along with General Ironsi by the Northern mutineers. He gave his life trying to save his boss, General Aguiyi Ironsi. Ogbe Ika was what he did for General Ironsi. The Ifa was cast for him as what to do for his boss and he sacrificed. Ogbe Ika was cast for the Olu Ibini as a destiny because the Olu Ibini was born a King as the first son of the reigning Benin King. Someone born as a King was dealt a special card from heaven and that is the farthest extent of support one can get. Ogbe ka rele Omo osin Ogbe ka rele Omo ora Ogbe ka rele Omo Ogun le le le ale de!. A difa fun Olu Ibini Omo Aroko kan rogodo Tayo Eniyan ki la la la Ko la ko rekoja Olu Ibini Ibi ti won ni a o fi ola mo Ogbe let's go to the house of Omo osin (Reared children) Ogbe let's go to the house of Omo ora (bought children) Ogbe let's go to the house of children of Ogun (innovators), let us hurry and get there before dusk (Before he dies). This was the Ifa cast for the Olu Ibini The one who was dealt a special card to play with No one can be so successful/aligned As to be more successful than the Olu Ibini Theirs shall be the limit of success. The story also apply to all princes born to be a monarch, for example the next in line to the British throne/Head of the British common wealth etc. If you are born under this ODU as your destiny, then you are a person that will achieve things as if you were the one that put it there. People will do their best for you. An obvious taboo is don't pick fights because people's general disposition is to help you. Avoid thinking anyone does not like you. You will get things easily that people struggle for and etc etc Ela boru Ela bo ye Ela bo sise |
Pmedia7787:I know at least one Ilesa girl I met at the University who grew up in Enugu and her parents are very well off and they would be living in their property back then in Enugu. There are all these pentecostal churches in the SE, are you saying they are all tenants?. When I was serving in Kogi state, I met one Ede man who had already more or less become Igbo in Nsukka and his Yoruba was very bad. He had a truck for transport business that I know of, I also saw Hausas in the same Nsukka speaking Igbo like natives. All these people will have properties in the SE but the problem is that no big city in the SE like we have in every other zone. A city of even one million will draw crowd. However there are non natives in the East in their millions doing business to make profit running into billions of naira everyday. |
The real test of academic potential is not GPA. GPA is like IQ Test. The ability to solve problems at speed. Though it is a bit better than IQ test because it shows you are hard working, have retentive memory and are bright. The real academic test is what thesis have you published in journals?. How earth shaking are those thesis etc etc. I made a 2-2 in OAU in 2004 but did extra semester to graduate in 2005. My final year thesis was published in a journal which makes me senior to some of my friends who are now Associate Profs by age of first publication. Then I got several poems published by Prof Lamikanra in the anthology of the Ife Festival of poetry years before graduation. I was therefore published in Arts and science before the age of 24. The Presidential library of President George W Bush have been lifting my online publication off social media for years and I have been mentioned like 100 times on academia in different fields at different conferences all over the world and referenced in many thesis across different fields published by people working in different institutions from History to Economics to Genetics to Theology to Sociology and etc and I did not have a first class. Although I was always first in my class in primary school and finished secondary school in 1996 and got university admission with 97 matric number. Academic output is not university grade but peer reviewed published thesis. |
vickydevoka:And what have these mentioned schools achieved by way of published papers and etc or all they can boast of are sadist lecturers?. Anybody that went through university, any university facing tens of examiners and scored only As throughout in any university has done something significant |
mrvitalis:300k for three bedroom for is not so high though still high a bit and such a property may cost up to seven million including plot of land but 750k per month rent will be too high for majority of the population in the SE. |
owolabi5:Such income of 12m per month in Nigeria is very high. At most 50,000 such people in the country and they can invest in real estate easily in any part of the country, with 100 million in real estate anywhere, 5 to 10 million or more per annum additional inflow can be guaranteed. Anyhow, the man in question is a big man anywhere in the world. He can't be worth less than ten million dollars if he is a business man. He is not in the rat race |
Bennysam:Your parents must have given you minimum requirements. For example, a Pastor might say No children of Alhaji etc etc and then you search based on what you agreed with your parents. |
Bennysam:Ah!. Are you marrying for your parents?. Na WA o |
mrvitalis:Life must be unbearable for people especially civil servants in the southeast. No hope of ever owning property, even rent they will not be able to afford and no bridge for them to live under in most of the cities. |
doneback04:You are the one to decide who to marry and all your parents can do is advise on general specification and you can only agree with what is okay by you. Some parents go so far as banning people from certain places but you are not obliged to agree. |
mrvitalis:That is why you need a business plan consisting of how much to invest and how you think the capital will be recovered. |
IbeOkehie:You can't borrow money to invest in real estate in Nigeria because returns not more than five percent but if you really have saved up capital, then 5 percent is not bad because it is safe from inflation. Capital outlay however is large and returns low but it is a secure investment. For high returns, you have to be monitoring and that is not easy for someone not on ground but if you have free one million dollars, that is a lot of money and if you invest it and sit with it in Nigeria, you are made for life. Alternative is to find a thriving business with an energetic entrepreneur and beg to be an investor |
valuehub:If you don't have money, you will marry someone without money only if you can get him a job if you extremely like him but if you have your own money, you can marry someone you like for other reasons. The lady is correct in the case of poor ladies. On the overall, peace of mind and happiness, filfilment is more important than billions |
Kobicove:No business is saturated if you know your strategy you will gain a market share. All is about strategy. |
mrvitalis:30 million per year is big money in Nigeria and if you are not in highbrow Nigeria, you will save more than someone earning 150 million naira in highbrow US. It is not how much you earn but how much you can save that matters. You can earn 500 million a year and be stuck in debt |
Emma1Oj:She was referring to poverty ladies. If a lady is poor, one of the things she needs in a man is money ditto for a man. |
