In fact this does NOT happen in MOST muslim countries.

its not just in muslim countries, it happens in india too even in the hindu states. Is not even allowed in islam as allah swt will judge the person for himself. It cold have happened me if I lived in Jordan, see if I did though I would have never met my darling baby.

I - man, generally in Sunni islam no there are no witnesses required. It was pronounced on me via the telephone because my then husband was in USA where he is from he is african american (mother) and a yoruba nigerian (father) who ran off on him so he never got to meet him also.

@Kobo, Oh I'm too tired to go into details now as to why i don't pray. Basically I wouldn't go with anything too fancy if you're not too sure.  Why not try this website www.afrofoodtv.com its brilliant the fried rice recipe would be ideal I have tried it myself and it works really well.  I reckon this rice would suit everyone and its not complicated. Also, you could fry a few plaintains on the side and some pieces of meat fried or baked in the oven.  Know what is also a good idea, to go to the nigerian food store and get some frozen tilapia fishes, let them defrost, then in a food processor mix hot peppers, knorr cubes, curry tyme etc and some water, pour it on the fish put keep some aside in a pot casue the fish dries up and sometimes needs a little more sauce. marinate them in it for a bit. Pop the fish in the oven then until its cooked then as it is just about done slice some onions and yellow n red peppers and throw them on the fishes in the oven and just let them brown for a bit, take them out and then fry plaintains and when the plaintains are done put them around the fish. I remember making that fish dish for my sister and her husband before and they wouldn't eat it because I left the heads on   -but you're supposed to leave the heads on. Apart from that though its a nice dish, especially if alcohol drinking is involved its complements that.

Kobo, thats in the Shia sect. I am sunni. Don't know a whole lot about shia but yes, that is one of the things permitted. Shia's have their own mosques and slightly different opinions which include some innovations like that one.

Yes the imaam was just doing his job and was not his fault or islams fault. I was left with a baby and not a cent and divorced. Even the imaam said I did nothing wrong.

thanks pilgrim thats really interesting. I myself married a catholic man. I was born muslim but left islam about four years ago after an abusive aranged marriage by an imaam. I do believe but I just don't practice and I feel like I just do not have the faith I used to have.

Otele, these jihadist are not great to their wives eithers. I could have easily married one of them but no thanks. Otele these women need money to survive. I feel bad for saying what I said. Answer the better someone did something with the govt to stop this happening.
