FoodRe: What Can I Cook For My Igbo Husband? by Leilah(op): 7:43pm On Jun 17, 2008
I think I am going to contact the local nigerian restaraunt. I am going to ask them can I do some work experience there, hopefully they wont mind. In that way it may save more money becuase the inflation is getting real bad here. Times are getting harder. More importantly I can say I tried and it may help the situation. Hope they dont laugh at me when I arrive at the restaraunt grin

Well thank you all very much for this help it means so much to me, I have copied all this information. Note, I am not here for attention, I simply want to make my husband satisfied and stop wasting money and letting good food go to waste. Its not that my food sucks, I can cook allsorts of indian, european and arabic things just not the nigerian stuff. I am getting there though and now feel with a bit of time and patience I may be able to make some nigerian dishes somedays of the week. My husband doesn't complain but he doesn't eat the other things. It has always been this way so its not all of a sudden.

For eg I made italian meatballs and pasta with salad (it was actually delish) last night. I went to bed and he had some, but this morning I saw all the meatballs in the bin and yesterday I asked him which one to cook as in soup or pasta and meatballs (specially rolled with fresh herbs and fresh tomatoes etc etc) he said yes, but like that, I found al of it in the bin. angry

thats brilliant thanks a lot folks. Im not looking for attention as some think. I do think it is important to be able to cook soemething properly especially given the price you pay for these ingredients in europe. Thanks for your ideas. I will try the nsala, thats the way I actually made it before and it was too thin so i added some yam flour into it to thicken it. I will try that again.

FoodRe: What Can I Cook For My Igbo Husband? by Leilah(op): 11:19pm On Jun 13, 2008
they are, google onugbo, ofe nsala, ofe ogiri, oha etc.  i made a list of these, got all the ingredients and worked around it. The problem is I asked him was this the way the dish is supposed to taste and ook and he just says 'yah' it is, but however doesnt really eat much of it. I don't know whether perhaps he doesnt want to embarass me or something.
FoodRe: What Can I Cook For My Igbo Husband? by Leilah(op): 11:14pm On Jun 13, 2008
yeah seriously, there is all the recipes for the soups. I can make stew, moin moin, jollof, fried, akara, beans and simple things like that. He never asked me to make his own traditional food but when he couldn't eat european and arabic food I began worrying. So, i resorted to the net and he said they were fine and the way there are supposed to be but only eate a small amount of them grin
FoodRe: What Can I Cook For My Igbo Husband? by Leilah(op): 6:46pm On Jun 13, 2008

HI GUYS! LISTEN I HAVE TRIED ALL THE DISHES I KNOW AND I OBTINAED THE RECIPES FOR SOUPS OFF THE INTERNET. ONLY THING I CAN GET RIGHT IS FRIED RICE. MY HUSBAND DOESNT LIEK EUROPEAN FOODS. I EXPLAINED TO HIM THAT I AM FOLLOWING RECIPES FROM INTERNET I AM LITERALLY THREE OR FOUR YEARS FOLLOWING THESE RECIPES AND WASTING MY MONEY AS THEY ARE NEVER EATEN (ESPECIALLY FROM HIM) I HAVE ASKED HIM ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND HE TELLS ME THAT I CAN MAKE THEM PROPERLY BUT NEVER EATS THEM.

HOWEVER, WHEN HE GOES TO HIS BROTHERS HOUSE AND IN PARTICULAR WHEN HE LIVED THERE BEFORE HE ALWAYS EATE SWALLOWS BUT WHEN I MAKE IT HE DOESNT. ITS INCREDIBLY ANNOYING. LAST NIGHT I MADE COUS COUS AS I MAKE THIS ONCE A WEEK AND HE COMLAINED. I TOLD HIM HE WILL HAVE TO GET SOMEONE TO TEACH ME HOW TO MAKE IGBO FOOD PROPERLY, BUT THERE IS NO ONE.

FamilyRe: Nigerian Men Spending Time Away From Their Families by Leilah(f): 11:39pm On Jun 05, 2008
Amber I know lots of ladies that live away from their husbands and vice versa in particularly one lady allowed her husband to go to somewhere like the Ukraine to study medicine for two years! she actually lives in London and him in Ukraine among the most beautiful women in the world his wife is a doctor herself and doesnt care where he is really. I work with a lady whose husband moved back to Nigeria and she stayed in europe. They still remain married. This was something that also puzzled me and still does actually. I suppose its all down to money. Personally, I dont see the point, how can you be still married when you havnt even slept in the same bed for years. Let alone cope with the 'secret children' he may have made while away! worse again the many STDs out there! God no!

I have a terrible time with my daughter she eats nothing and she is 3yrs too. I try her with absolutely everything. My mother said she has never met such a stubborn child. I think you just have to give them what the want no matter what food it is. All my one eats is noodles and chicken nuggets. Oh and chocolate of course. There is fats in these foods.
CultureRe: Ghetto by Leilah(f): 1:00pm On Jun 02, 2008
I lived in a ghetto in the US before (3 months). Its gloomy and weird not to mention to deprivation/lack of education etc. Personally I wouldn't live there and I seldom went out at night. The good thing for me was at that time I was practising islam and wore all the coverings so I was often greeted by the residents who liked me for that. I often heard gunshots and there were frequent killings. Cars often got hijacked at traffic lights. My ex husband was from the most notorious part of Chicago, Cabrini Green its called. I had my time there in US and I can say I dont fancy going back.

I dont think naija women ever get to control their homes. This sort of thing happens in the west though.

FamilyRe: Husband In Nite Clubs/discos by Leilah(op): 12:09pm On Jun 02, 2008
Doesnt matter in my view hoe slim and attractive the wife is if the man wants to go out he will. I personally dont see the point in allowing it as I dont want trouble on my doorstep ie -some pregnant slut. You just never know and whats a man supposed to do when there are all these babes eying him. They would do it in front of you these women, can you imagine when your not there!!!! shocked

Yeah well one man did it here in dublin, went clubbing without his wife and now a ugandan lady is about to give birth for him. sad

We dont even go to clubs only very rarely we go to houseparties together and when we do go we go to clubs we go together and even when people see you with your husband they are still over chatting you up (im talking men and women). I actually had this discussion with my husband and he said he is not even keen on going to clubs. Thankfully, hopefully it will stay this way cool
