@OP, maybe you don't give yourself time to know the guy well enough before allowing your emotions take over you. Before being serious with someone, its good to give the friendship phase time to mature (about 3-4 months), before bringing in the emotions . During that time, you may have evaluated how a relationship with that person is going to be, sorted your emotions out and then next thing is to make up your mind whether its worth getting serious or not

@OP why break your head for someone who isn't worth the stress?  

I have a friend who hasn't talked to his family for 7 months just because they accused his gf of being a "bad girl" and "a bad influence to him". According to him, "no one has any right to yarn s.hit about his girlfriend except him". He knows what his gf is capable of and so doesn't listen to petty gossips.

If someone really loves you, why in the world will the person not trust you? Unless the person has caught you in the alleged act or has seen you misbehaving in ways that may point that the accusations are true. If not, stop living in denial and walk . . . . If he would choose his family over you, what if you guys should end up getting married, don't you think the situation is going to be worse then? Now he believes his family, tomorrow maybe he'll believe his friends, another day he might believe his gate man and yet another other day, he might believe a dog barking at you means something is up your sleeves and so and so fort.

Why will you want to stay with someone who both himself and the rest of his family are bound to connive against you at any time and then in the end, they leave you bitter, shattered and heart broken or do you enjoy living in dismay? One thing I've learnt in life is never to kill oneself over someone who isn't worth it as You will only make yourself look petty, needy and pathetic at the end of it all. . . . .

How would i be pounding yam traditionally when there are modern ways to do something that will yield thesame result. Maybe all the 9ja men should go hunting with bow and arrow (afterall that is the traditional way of making money). If they can do this, then i'll start advising my female 9ja friends to start pounding yam inside traditional mortar and pestle.

When you look at the divorce rate in present day marriages, i don't think it's to be blamed on westernisation (in this case, "dating". Who in the past generation would talk about divorce? They don't because the primitive society then attaches so much punishment to leaving one's husband or wife. It was a "taboo".Then, people marry who their society chooses for them, or they just make proposal or accept proposal just for the sake of procreation, which they most times confuse with marriage.
A mother in those days will tell her son,  " I want to have a grandchild". . . the next day, the son goes seeking for a "child manufacturer".
That is why some marriages of our father's have no passion or emotion. You hardly see them holding hands, exchanging affectionate glances or doing anything romantic. it's just "blank". 

My point here is that, the view of marriage then was twisted. . . and there was hardly any way out of marriage, except if the person (especially the woman) wants to be labelled a "public disgrace" or a "product of a failed marriage"! And most people weren't even bothered to opt out (divorce) and the reason for this was because the marriage was built on tolerance and procreation, not love ( the man can beat the woman up to the point of death but the woman will still stick around, silently wait for her next beating) . . . if you don't marry for love, then what exactly will you be "divorcing" from? They just tolerate the person, have kids and that was all marriage was about in those days.

So for me, whether courtship ooo, or dating, i still think the way "most" people do it in present times is way better. I had rather fall in love with someone, marry the person, and maybe have kids, but when ever the marriage fails (lacks love), i quit. Better to have one day of happiness with someone you love and it ends there, than spend the rest of your life making babies with someone you don't love

yeah. most people have it in them to dictate where a relationship can lead to. It's really not a male or female characteristics rather its an individual ability.

For instance; a man can fake wanting a serious relationship when all he wants is to lure the woman to bed;some women are smart enough to tell when a guy is just trying to lure them, while others are ever gullible.
Again, some girls will do every and fake love any day just to get one thing or another from the guy (blackberry, brazilain hair etc); some guys are able to catch such ladies easily, while others are blinded so they cant see through the girls heavenly behaviour.
