PoliticsRe: FRSC Acquires Equipment To Check Over-Speeding by linearity: 12:27am On Jul 18, 2012
werepeLeri: Answer the question. What is the speed limit in America. Answer. I am waiting.

How many roads have you traveled interstate and you haven't seen speed limit? Do u care to look to see if they are there or you are one of those who simply ignore and drive themselves silly and then come around to blame government.
Each State in America governors what the speed limit would be and they varies from residential, school zone, industrial, inter-state roads, etc...Speed limits are posted in all America roads....and there are laws on how they must be posted and the distant apart....if a speed limit sign in not posted at the required distant from each other, you can beat a traffic ticket in court based on that.

Having a radar gun and clocking speeds over-speeding vehicles on the road is not enough evidence to adjudicate that someone is speeding...FRSC saying that, they will clock your speed and wait for you months or even years after when you want to renew your papers amount to fraud...change the laws....catch the speeder on the spot, give them a ticket and a summon to appear in court....let FRSC present their evidence to a Judge and the speeder present his/hers...then let the Judge decide...if the speeder does not show up in court, then a default judgement can be entered against them....

I am not a lawyer, but I have beaten many speed tickets via radar gun in court....Those things work on frequencies and they could be wrong, they have to be maintained on a regular bases.....so just acquiring some radar gun is not sufficient.

Please pardon my ignorance....

What is the relevance of each Universities UME exams? Is JAMB and relevant O level results no longer the singular criteria for admission into 100 levels in Nigeria Universities?

Yes, I understand pre-degree & direct entry exams/requirements of some universities...But it appears that these UME exams are not the same as these.

Or are successful JAMB candidates now required to take and pass a UME examination in these Universities before their matriculation or some Universities have opted out of using JAMB as their admission criteria?

When I took JAMB in the early 1990s, I got a result in the mail from JAMB, few weeks later, I got an admission letter from one of the three Universities of my choices...then traveled to that University, enrolled presenting my O level papers, etc, got my hostel, started lectures and somewhere in between we did matriculation, have things changed?

Thanks in advance...

omegabuz: @yeye4live,

Did you see the Terms of Agreement of which I believe you attested to and signed in agreement? These charges are well stipulated in there. So why waste your time and money sueing GTBank to court.

I want to seize this opportunity to advise everyone to always and thoroughly read through the Terms of Agreement of any official document that concerns you.

Even Festus Keyamu or any other lawyer will advise you to back off this case.
Not all terms of agreements are enforceable in court....some can be outrageous, predatory and unconscionable that the Judge can toss them even if you had signed them. That is why in some more sophisticated agreements... they insert a severability clause that goes sometime like..'if any part of this agreement is found to be illegal or otherwise unenforceable, the remainder of the agreement should still apply'

TrueNaijaguy: Pls lets not be sensational about the headline. There's nothing in the news that suggests that there may be stable electricity in a month. It mentioned only power transmission which is just a part but an important part of the the whole process.

I must confess it will be a very significant step towards achieving a stable power supply cos government will then concentrate more on power generation.
You cannot transmit the power that have not been generated....so when Sambo said transmission problem will be solved in four weeks, it presupposes that the generation have already been taken care of....

That not withstanding, do I have faith that in four weeks light would be stable? the answer is a big fat NO!

afam4eva: This is great.

Now, how's someone supposed to answer the last question?
The last question is not about accuracy...it just about process to see how you can work through difficult and impossible situation...

I will start the answer like this....

You can ask them...what is the dimensions of the school bus and golf ball?...if they did not give you which I will imagine, otherwise one of the main purpose of that question will be defeated...

If not given the dimension..I will approach it this way....

the length of my car is about 19 feets, a school bus will be about twice that length, which will be about 38 feets; a school bus is a bit higher than my height, since am 5.7 feets tall, a school bus will be approximately 7 feets in height and the breath of a school bus from my casual observation would not be more than 5 feets...the radius of a golf ball is 6 inches (or about 0.5 feets)...

1. Volume of the school bus = L X B X H = 38 x 7 X 5 = huh?
2. Volume of a golf ball = 4/3 x pi x r^3
number of golf balls = result from 1/result from 2

Accuracy is not key here, so you can choose figures that would make the calculation easier for you but a little bit realistic...in many interviews...they will stop you and go to the next questions once they see that you are on the right track or struggling...

It is only active-duty or discharged (discharged with honorable or General) US military immigrates that are eligible for citizenship on day one...i.e. if you have at least one day of active-duty service eg Iran, Afghanistan, or any war or conflict zones, you are eligible to apply for US citizenship.

If you are an active US military with no duty in a war zone, you have to wait one year to be eligible for US Citizen. President Bush made this amended during the Iraq war...and you can find all the relevant info at Section 328 of the US Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.

So contrary to your assertions, this guy must have either served in a war zone or must have waited one year before becoming a citizen and not 2 weeks.
PoliticsNo Evidence Yet To Prosecute Farouk Lawan - Police by linearity(op): 3:48am On Jul 05, 2012
by Adelani Adepegba, Abuja

Police have advised Nigerians not to be carried away by the purported audio of the N96m bribery scandal involving Farouk Lawan and Femi Otedola aired by Channels TV.

The Force Headquarters stated that the audio recording, which was relayed on Monday by the private TV station, was not enough evidence to prosecute Lawan.

Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who spoke on the relay of the audio recording in Abuja on Tuesday, asked for the full video component of the recording which should start from the beginning of its recording.

The police spokesman said the force would not interfere with the ongoing investigation by the Ethics and Privileges Committee of the House of Representatives as long as the committee did not do anything that would jeopardise police investigations.

“We are not interested in what the committee is doing,” he stressed.

He added that the House enjoyed autonomy and so could do whatever it deemed right in the interest of the country.

“For us as a security organisation, we are focusing on our ongoing investigation and in the course of the committee's investigation, if they stumbleon something they feel could be useful to us, I am sure the Inspector-General of Police would be glad to have such information.

“We are not monitoring them and would not interfere as long as they don't do anything that could jeopardise what we are doing,” Mba explained.

On why it is taking the police too long to conclude investigation, Mba stressed that with the evidence so far obtained, it would amount to a waste of time and public resources to rush to court.

He said, “You just don't rush to court for the fun of charging people to court. That is why courts are congested and that is why we don't make progress. It does not make sense. It is unproductive; it is a waste of public resource.”

I don't buy the humility argument, the king has the right not to attend to any guest he deems unfit to attend to. The King might be anti PDP, hence the snub.

PDP has failed Nigerians immensely, and the King's gesture might signify protest and disapproval of the Party in his State.

Igbinedion (PDP) was awful during his tenure, and Oshiomhole (AC) has been fantastic so far.

The King, like most long-suffering Nigerians, wants to be associated with something that is working for the people ( something progressive).
I doubt if the President of Nigeria with his entourage, security details and advanced security details who will first arrive at the destination to secure the place will arrived without notice or advance notice. It does not just happen that way in the real world...

I do not see how this lawyer is helping his client..

He has even made incriminating statements here against his client Farouk.

1. He now agree hat his client collected a bride but only to provoke Otedola to give more.
2. Even if the tape is edited as he said...all he is disputing is location, manner and how...he is not disputing the main fact that his client collected bride.
3. Where is the bride money his client collected them?

Outside a sting operation with the relevant authorities, one cannot go and engage in a criminal act and call it 'agent provokee' after they are caught. So far the Police have denied working with Farouk...Where and how someone committed a crime does not matter as much as the crime committed..

It is not true that they are eligible for permanent residency...they will be given WORK PERMIT with no part to citizenship...permanent resident have part to citizenship. They must not also have any criminal record.

The other disadvantage is that, since this is an executive directive and not an act of congress through legislative means, it could be ended, limited, etc by any future President or administration.

Car TalkRe: Nigerian Auto Insurers: Do They Ever Pay Up? by linearity: 11:24pm On Jun 22, 2012
tosenbaba: As the law says, the least type of insurance a car owner should have is a 3rd party, but cos our people don't care where they get there 3rd party insurance from whenever they go get their plate number, its assumed na fake(police make i pass).the 3rd party covers you to a max limit of N1m,but take note your own car will not be covered but the 3rd party's car or property is covered to a limit of N1,000,000.00 but take note that u pay 10% of the value of the claim 1st.you can get your original 3rd party for as low as N5000.00 for saloon cars and more for other cars.
On comprehensive both your car and 3rd party is covered 5% value of car.,then we have the 3rd party fire and theft 2.5% of the value of the car.
Once you have a claim, dont't try to fix it without the knowledge or notifying your insurance company.
Then lastly i recommend one gets a an insurance broker for all his/her insurance needs, then as the insured try to read your insurance policy cos when claim arises that will be the law binding you and the insurance company.
What do u mean by '3rd party fire & theft'? Is that a coverage in case you steal or burnt down a 3rd party's car....smiley or is this additional coverage for ur car in case of fire or theft? If the later is the case, what is the comprehensive covering? methink comprehensive should cover fire and theft as well.
Car TalkRe: Nigerian Auto Insurers: Do They Ever Pay Up? by linearity: 11:19pm On Jun 22, 2012
manny4life: 1.8% of both cars? Are you serious or just joking? Assuming that the estimated book value of your car is $50,000 and you have a 1.8% annual premium, so you're convincing us that you're paying $900 annually for both cars, BRAND NEW? I mean regardless of the fact that it's brand new, maybe you're an excellent driver, you drive avg miles on he car, etc

Keep in mind that I used $50,000 for both cars, what this means is that, the higher the value of the car, obviously the higher the premium.

I mean, there are parts to claims, depending on what you're insured for. I think 5% is modest for standard cars, for more expensive cars, you simply DON'T insure them; that's so much risk and companies apply discretion. I mean if you purchased the Minimum Liability Coverage and you're expecting full payout, like seriously? Who does that?

Besides, from the way I understand insurance works in general, it works by a pool system. If 10,000 people are insured for a whole year with an annual premium of say $600, insurance companies expect to pay claims based on different outcomes. Probably, their risk analyst might say 2 out 5 persons might seek claims, and each claims is grouped into a class. I mean, it's impossible for insurance to pay 100% claims to ALL it's clients and it's not based on what you contributed but based on a shared coverage.
Both cars actually average about $80K new, without going into more details...they are both Japanese cars...Premium is paid every 6 month...just paid premium for the remainder half of this year this week and it was about $692.00...note that this premium covers two drivers and two vehicles...and it is a comprehensive coverage. there are lots of things you can do to lower ur coverage..e.g. if you are a good driver and do not put forth claims that much..go with a higher deductible e.g. $1k...if you are employed and have a company health insurance coverage...elect for your company insurance to be primary to cover all medical claims that involves insured driver and the insurance company will be the secondary....ask to see what discount the companies have...u might be surprise the kind of discount that is obtainable..eg I get discount just for having a paypal account..another discount for paying the 6 month premium in full and various discounts....some little security features, some even standard that comes with the vehicle attracts discounts..but you have to mention it to the insurance company by the time you add these up.

Believe me, 5% even for standard car is very high...again...it might be because of the risk environment obtainable in Nigeria....but this risk factor should not be blank...it should vary from area to area..individual to individual...ie it should be customizable to each individual situation & environ.

fstranger6: 1.8% of what?
both cars were bought new.....insurance is around 1.8% of the cost price...not that insurance is based on the cost of the car...it is base on a lot of criteria like gender, age, when u first start driving, educational level, where u live, where the vehicle is parked at night, ur driving history, u own a house vs renting, average miles driven per year, general usage of the vehicle, etc....
Car TalkRe: Nigerian Auto Insurers: Do They Ever Pay Up? by linearity: 1:31am On Jun 22, 2012
faithin9ja: Insurance premiums are too low in Nigeria, a flat rate of 5% does not justify the real cost of risk. in other countries premiums are calculated depending on your driving experience, your age, gender, where you live and other factors. In Nigeria everybody is expected to pay 5% flat rate regardless if you are the worse driver in the world, third party, fire and theft is even just a fixed fee regardless of even the car!!!

how do you expect insurance companies to pay up N17 million for a truck, when the premium they collected was N800k
5% flat insurance premium is too much....insurance coverage works on the law of large number....even in the USA where insurance is metered based on individual risk, etc...those who fall into the high risk insurance pool do not pay upto 5%.....my two cars two driver insurance runs around 1.8%

Having a lot of ram aka 4gb is only half of what makes computing to be fast....having a 4gb ram only means you have enough memory to buffer real time data...the question is how fast does the data gets into/out of the ram, which is the function of the CPU and buffer speed...the highest tablet PC CPU out there is 2.66Ghz..but it is more expensive comparable to an equivalent laptop or PC. Laptops and PCs also have level2 caching...which is faster than ur 4gb ram.

If you compare apples with apples...features with features at each price point...I will say that laptops are faster than tablets.
Car TalkRe: Auto Maintenance Issues. How Often Have You: by linearity: 3:38pm On Jun 20, 2012
Chi_Chi77: My questions is some of your number 1-9 are maintained through the car's warantee in the USA, especially transmissions. So if a car has a current warrantee in the USA and is purchased and shipped back to Nigeria, do the car dealerships for that brand in Nigeria continue the warrantee or is it out of pocket payment for those in Nigeria?
I doubt if cars warranted in the USA can enjoy the same level of warranty when shipped to 9ja....The road condition, climate, manner of use, enforcement of acceptable driving/car maintenance in Nigeria is not the same as obtainable in the USA and the manufacturer takes these into consideration when setting their warranty coverage because these items determines durability of the transmission system and other components of the car.

Fraud also plays a major role because some warranty are condition upon you keeping up with some periodic maintenance procedures...Manufacturer are weary when it is easy to doctor up maintenance reports.

However, you should be able to get some warranty in Nigeria but its coverage might not be to the extend of what is obtainable abroad or to that duration....to obtain at per warranty...you have to shell more cash....the additional cash will underwrite the above mentioned risks that the manufacturer/dealershipp world have to contend with.
ComputersRe: Is Tablet Pc's Taking Laptops Out Of Fashion? by linearity: 3:20pm On Jun 20, 2012
Yes, the tablets will take some market shares away from laptops....just like laptops took away lots of market shares from desktop PCs...

There are some mobile users who do not need a laptop but uses it because they have no choice..e.g. the traveling salesman who have need to do demos across country or worldwide, heavy media clients eg movie, music, etc....also remote data users...

Tablets do not have the huge storage, memory, CPU power etc that laptops have....Though with time these main difference will be eliminated..eg with the advert of solid state drives; storage devices does not need to be bulky...but the price point of solid state drive is too high at this point to make any sensor for their mass introduction in tablets...lots of people use cloud computing instead..
