That is not true!

Time to dust up Child labor laws and read them. Even in the US...as an example of a developed world that you cited....if you are babysitting or performing minor chores around a private home, you are not covered under child labor laws.

Nanny is one of the means through which Teenagers in the US earn money during summer breaks....Also, if you visit parks, malls, Restaurants, supermarkets, fast food joints, etc now in the US that, it is summer break; chances are you will see a 13, 14, 15 or 16 year old kid working to either save for college or get some pocket money.

Child labor laws in the US mainly states you can’t employ teenagers under 14 years old in Agriculture and then staggered the industries they can be allowed to work in as they grow older until 18..., what I quoted above is the federal standard law, though it varies from state to state, but most states micmic the federal standard...and babysitters and household helps are exempted from these laws.

Child labor laws are mainly geared to regulate business enterprise and not private homes or family businesses, etc....A 12 yrs old can help his Dad in his lawn mowing business or mom selling wares, etc and it is not considered child labor.

You will only get into trouble if e.g. the living-in nanny is mis-treated, or if you didn’t send them to school, etc....and this is obvious because, you will also get into trouble if you mis-treat your own kids or if you didn’t send them to school.

Even in a normal family, what the housemaid is doing, is what any 14 years old will do to her own 2 yrs old siblings...eg bath them, feed them, etc.

I will take her narrative at their face values, unless you have an inside information that contradicts what she said...she took the maid as her family, treat her good, make sure she get her shots, treat her when she was positive for a disease; put her in school.

From her narrative, it appear she mostly need her during the weekends and in the evenings because of the shift at her work, which would not interfere with the maid’s schooling and she only discovered this on one of those downtime days from her weekend/evening schedules.

There is no ill in employing housemaid as long as one can treat them as their own kid, give them the opportunity to go to school, etc....in fact there are many Africa kids who own their education even to University level to being housemaid, because their parents due to hardship and poverty could not send them to school.

I don’t know where you got the opinion that, she was exploiting her....the housemaid is benefiting from the whole deal, unless you have an inside information that formed that opinion...otherwise, it is speculative, baseless and of no value.

What I meant by “new” is the fact that part of her particular assignment is to administer HIV drugs...not all nurses administer drugs and most that do, do not administer HIV drugs, because their area of medicine or practice don’t see such kind of patients. Also not all doctors can prescribe HIV just like other specialty drugs as these drugs require training, followup and each doctor that prescribes them are limited in the quantities and number of patients...this is a means to control these types of drugs and to ensure that, only those who need them gets them.

The courts favors the kids to have access to both parents...from his story, it appear that the mother in collusion with the step-father and her people have engaged in alienating him from the life of the child and to give the child to the step-father in the name of their tradition.

Obviously the child’s continual stay with the mother under those conditions, will not foster a good relationship with father, which law requires.

I understand fully well that, this is Nigeria and that, the highest bidder can sometimes buy the most favorable outcome in courts.

How come you conclude that he paid N5 millions?

I Judge set his bail for N5 mil when he was arraigned at the court, which is different from what the commissioner is saying, where Police will ask those whom they have detained at the Police Station to pay ‘bail’ before they can let them go.

Also note that, a Judge setting bail for an amount does not mean you pay that amount. The Judge is simply saying that, “If you don’t make yourself available for trial as ordered by this court until this case is finished, you will owe this court aka government N5 mil”. Now for you to perfect your bail, give us sureties from where we will collect our N5 mil in case you elude this trail”

And those surety can be people of reputable recognition in the society, landed properties, business, share certificate, etc....After the trial, it does not matter if you were find guilty or not, your surety will be released or returned back to you by the court.
