PoliticsRe: Should The Attorney General Of The Federation Be Sacked? by magneto(m): 2:45pm On Sep 19, 2007
Big B1:
Politics is a devil.

In order to make adjustment or correct messy situation, there will always be certain steps taken by the government that probably wouldn't make any sense to you and I.
And this is a good example.

In fact, United States continues to face their own political issues on a regular; which result into making unique and senseless decisions. These decisions may not make sense, but trust me, there is reason for every single action.

That is politics.

AGF is not going anywhere, he's only doing what is designed to correct things.
u make it sound like u are in the "know" about whats going on behind the scene!! do u have any inside info? or did u just come to that conclusion on ur own? why should we trust u?. . .

and one more thing, are u really IBB's son?

PoliticsRe: Africa Before Slavery! by magneto(op): 4:11pm On Sep 18, 2007
i concur brother, instead of teaching us about shakespeare, oliver twist, king arthur and the like. . . our students should be made to read articles like this. its funny how we all were taught about British history and stuff, instead of our own history.
im sure if u took a poll, u'd find that most Africans know more about foreign history than their own (im afraid im guilty too). dammit its the bloody deficient and myopic education system!! its now i begin to appreciate the efforts of seasoned intellectuals such as Soyinka, Achebe, Ekwensi, and other african authors, in preserving for future generations, details about their rich cultural backgrounds and ensuring that their history dont die and wither away.
its a pity we never had an effective documention and preservation culture, else most of our historical facts (events, articles, dates, names, real people, real communities, etc) should be readily available even now. i heard that in the british public library, books that date back centuries are still available for perusal, and have been carefully preserved for years!
maybe we should start having archeologists of African origin to dig up more evidences from our soil, wetin u think?
PoliticsRe: Who Is Chief Gani Fawehinmi (san)? by magneto(m): 3:27pm On Sep 18, 2007
Big B1:
Is this man simply seeking for attention or he's simply sincere with his actions?
i begin to wonder!

Big B1:
Is this the right time for Chief Fawehinmi to channel a different strategy, that will produce an effective result?
yea, he should definitely revise his strategy. but that's if he's actions are genuinely sincere, who knows if he likes noise making for publicity purposes. as a learned lawyer, im sure he can figure out more result-oriented approaches to tackling presumed bad government policies.
PoliticsAfrica Before Slavery! by magneto(op): 3:04pm On Sep 18, 2007
just stumbled on this interesting and very insightful article, written by a religious icon, John Wesley. he expresses his own view and that of other close associates of Africa before slavery, and the highly structured society the Europeans met on the continent. this article totaly breaks the stereotype of pre-slavery Africans as brutish savages and war thirsty tribes. funny enuff its written by a white man (albeit an unbiased one ), CNN should learn from him, lol.
check it out and post your thots here. . . 1 luv!

PoliticsRe: What Do U Think About Madam Speaker? by magneto(m): 2:25pm On Sep 18, 2007
that woman is an embarrasment to Nigerian women. and to think that she is the first woman to have as much power as that in this country. . . tsk tsk tsk! her actions begin to taint and overshadow achievements of illustrious daughters of this nation such as Dora Akunyili, Ndi Okereke and others. what a shame! cry cry
PoliticsRe: Nigeria: Developed, Developing, Or Underdeveloped Country? by magneto(m): 1:55pm On Sep 18, 2007
chidichris:
we will get there someday and i like that but the big question will be; when?
while we search for the answer, i am saying under-developed is an understatement.
i just hate it when people ask questions like this! angry it only shows cowardice on your part. have some hope brother. . . matter of fact, YOU are Nigeria's hope! instead of asking when?. . . you should be asking, how? only with that kind of mentality can we achieve the Nigerian Dream!

i remember a time back in the university when we were watching a foreign movie in the hostel common room, and there was a scene showing these curving, winding, and beautifully constructed road network. then someone made a comment that went something like "when will Nigerian roads ever be like this?", and generated small laughter and the usual government bashing.
i had to point out to the guy that, that was the reason he was in the university and not in his fathers farm or selling goods in some shop somewhere. HE was supposed to be the man that makes it happen!! when i said that, he suddenly went quiet and introspective (everybody else too grin) it obviously had never occured to him to reason like that before. it felt really disappointing that someone whos supposed to be an undergraduate (the FUTURE creme de la creme of Nigerian society) couldn't even realise his potential as an instrument for development and positive change in his country.
its a pity what poverty mentality has done to our collective intellect in this country. imagine how many other Nigerian students think like that unfortunate chap!! the only thing on most peoples mind is survival. . .
i know that the present situation of things in the country paints a gloomy picture (only a fool will ignore that!) but dammit, wake up and smell the roses!!! NIGERIA IS NOT DOOMED!! and you know why? . . . because there are people like YOU and ME, who still believe in ourselves (and i mean personal now) and our ability to bring about change!
no be by talk, action!! you can do it. . . you know you can! Nigeria is great jor!

GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!! cool

I've been reading all along & haven't made no contribution till now.

I happen to be a very independent lady, so to speak, i don't derive any joy in asking, i'm determined to be strong & make my own money*which i've started in my own li'l way* Hope to be better though. The kind of upbringing i have brought up this decision. i see my mother as a role model, who is strong & a survivor.

I believe in a woman being strong on her own, If u are married to the so called rich guy & he dies tomorrow, what happens? May be d lady look for another rich man to hide her head

I believe there is respect gottn, that a lady is not prolly after a guy's money. But that does not rule out a fact that the guy shouldn't have his own money, he has to be financially ok, because that is for his own self esteem.because many guys prefer to be richer than their spouse.

@Sanmius talking about Gabrielle solis in despirate house wives, that character actually portrays the after effect of ladies after money which is unhappy lives.
why don't you let him worry about his self esteem . . . u think all guys give a hoot about who's richer? jeez!!
its the controlling attitude of these rich ladies which ur kinda exhibiting i must say that pisses guys off!

Well. I speak Thai as mother language. A bit french and japanese. But now I want to learn my boyfriend's dialect. He's from South Africa but I'm not so sure which part. I only know one word he taugh me which is 'KEDU' as Hallo, is that correct? I want to know how to say 'I miss you' in his language too but seems like there so many dialects used in South Africa. So I may need to ask him which one he speak first. Really want to surprise him. Thanks in advance if anyone could help me.

femionasan:
It will be very difficult for a made man to meet a lady and expect that she is in love with him. He will always have it at the back of her mind that she is in it for the money and that is a concrete reason why a lot of guys that are already successful before they met their wives most times cheat. As long as the money is there she will stay and when it runs out she will go. They also get treated badly. So ladies if u see a potential success in the making stick with him. More guys appreciate a lady that has been with them through thick and thin than a one who shows up when its all Rosy. Trust me God gave ladies the sense of smell to locate a potential guy that will be successful doesnt work all the time but it does most times. wink wink wink
well spoken! wink

I agree that that may be a minute possibility of some of what you said could happen, but even if it does, I don’t see anything of it being catastrophic to the economy, the Nigerian economy is way to large to be greatly affected by some of its small markets , for example, Nigeria has experienced inflation for decades, oil prices doubled, telecoms, price of commodities, real estate etc it has been dealt blows from all angles for decades, but see how resilient the economy has proven.

@goodbobo
I understand your concern, but market forces are way too strong to allow Mamma Putt affect it. If she wishes to raise her price, let her, if there are people that want to buy, they will buy, but my guess is she will run out of business if her competitors are selling for much lower or hopefully she reduces her price before that happens.

@egin

first of all your story has no source, and besides that even if it were true. . . i personally don't think Dangote should be on the slaughter table here! he's just doing what every smart business man will do, ie  getting cosy with government (for waivers and concessions obviously). he didn't make those waivers, Obasanjo did! . . . and that he benefitted from such waivers directly should be of no consequence "legally"!

just hand it to him, the man is a damn good business man!! cool

btw- besides this has nothing to do with him contributing to the economic improvement, or provision of jobs. . . or even forbes rating for that matter! grin
