Politics › Re: Tinubu’s Reinstated Fuel Subsidy Will Drain Almost Half Of Oil Revenue—IMF Warns by Mandate1: 11:56am On May 11, 2024 |
SoNature: If you say that leadership isn't hard, with all due respect, it means you haven't managed a big project or run a company before.
As for our politicians, they do anything to get into leadership because they don't even intend to work in the first place. For the few who genuinely wanted to work, you will see the impact on them immediately.
For instance, Jonathan didn't have grey hair when he was the VP. But few years as president, he had grey hair all over his head. The same thing happened to Obama.
In fact, Buhari said he almost ran away when he saw the amount of challenges he had to tackle. He was always thinking of how to solve the problem, falling sick, and flying to the UK for medical checkup. But the moment he stopped thinking about the country's problems, he started looking fresh. Some people then thought it was his doppelganger.
If anyone tells you that leadership is easy, that person hasn't controlled a business where lots of money is involved and bad decisions lead to weighty consequences. In fact, you will be too scared of making certain decisions sometimes because you fear the consequences.
I don't even want to talk about the insults these leaders receive all the time. People who failed in life blame them for their failures. Tinubu once talked about not visiting his SM accounts anymore because in his words, "They insult the hell out of me!" You think these people are not human, right? Think again. you're a funny man. So handling a Biz automatically make one a good leader? Political leadership is the easiest form of leadership position anyone can have or manage. Reason being that your appointees and ministers are subservient to you and must be answerable to your command. I also need not to remind you that having grey hair doesn't connote how difficult the position is. Grey comes due to age and other genetic traits. Politicians have the best advisers in every position, all dey need is take one or two from these advisers and add their own to it. It's difficult, yet the minimum qualification to be the president of Nigeria is WAEC. |
Politics › Re: Tinubu’s Reinstated Fuel Subsidy Will Drain Almost Half Of Oil Revenue—IMF Warns by Mandate1: 9:33am On May 11, 2024 |
SoNature: I'd like to think that we Nigerians either like to deceive ourselves or we are just ignorant of what leadership is. In truth, leadership is NOT all about choosing between good and evil. No!
Think of a leader as a civilian in charge of security operatives chasing after one dangerous terrorist who has masterminded the killing of hundreds in the past. This terrorist runs into a building full of people just to escape from security operatives.
The leader knows that if he tells the security agents to go into the building to arrest the man, he will waste all of them and escape because he's a specialist in doing that. Instead, he tells them to throw bombs into the building, killing the terrorist and other innocent people.
The leader knows that if he keeps that terrorist alive, he will kill more. So, it's better to sacrifice just 5 - 10 innocent people in place of hundreds. That's something these leaders face every now and then.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala told Jonathan to remove the petrol subsidy in 2012. She took hours to convince Jonathan. Jonathan took weeks to think about it but wasn't convinced. Considering that his options were limited, Jonathan had to remove it anyways. And it backfired! It nearly led to a countrywide protest - a protester even died at Ojota! That's what it means to be a leader.
So, sometimes, we have to pity our leaders. We don't have access to the information they have. We don't know what they go through at night for making certain decisions. But, I like the way Buhari put it, "You cannot satisfy everyone. Just make a decision that will enable you to sleep at night."
If you read up to this point, my point is, leadership is hard! my brother leadership is not hard, it's only in Nigeria and Africa leadership is hard. Leadership is simply accounting with commonsense. 1+1=2 with your commonsense. Leadership is very hard, yet they all scramble to get to power. Who is forcing dem? |

MEEVEET: First thing first listen to Peter obi interviews on moving from consumption to productions
Read and understand theory of comparative advantage
Then try and familiarize yourself with how developmental economics works
Now
Your revenue to debt servicing is already 110% This means that you need to borrow 10% of what you earn to pay interests for the loan we have already borrowed
Recurrent expenditure is about 200% revenue that's the money needed to run government, pay workers, buy diesel for army, police and others
Does it make sense now to borrow money and do a very beautiful fine sweet costal road that would increase debt servicing/ recurrent expenditure and not increase revenue?
Does it not make sense to invest the loan into something that would increase revenue and at least pay back it's own loan? Is that not the logical thing to do?
How do you do this you would ask... By investing in your people like Peter obi said... How?
Let's take example a village in Benue... That village have 300 farming families and have 10,000 hectares... But can only farm 1000 hectares yearly due to manual labor
Now imagine CBN sends people to talk to this people... Why not put all your farms together and form a cooperative, each person shares being the percentage of farm they bring
Then as a cooperative you approach a bank nearest to you, they give you loan interest loans given to the bank by CBN
With this loan thy buy improved seeds, mechanize their farms
Not only would their yeild per hectares increase based on improved input they now farm more lands in far less time... So cost of production drops
They can still approach banks for more loan to process their products, for rice rice mill for cassava you can have ethnol , fruity juice for fruit farmers ,Feed mill for corn and soya bean farmers
These reduced the cost of production, make the price of foods to reduce and farmers richer
You don't do this by providing 75 billion to SMEs You do this by providing minimum of 5 trillion years to banks at an interest rate of say 2% banks search for this cooperative, educate them, guid them and give them loan at say 7% interest rate
Must not be farms can he garments factory, leather works, ICT companies, etc
Now that's how you kick start economic growth you're smart and intelligent. 1) In addition to all you said, I'm of the opinion the govt reverts the existing economy back to whr she met it. In simple terms, revert back to subsidy. People will say this is foolish, but it's the sincere truth. For us to produce, we need cheap power. Energy is killing business in Nigeria. Declare a state of emergency in the power sector. And ensure that the power generation capacity gets to about 20,000mMwts in the next 1yr. Even if the govt doesn't do anythg meaningful in other sectors, let power be achieved in the next 1yr. This is basically the only meaningful way to drive production. With stable and cheap electricity, FDI will swim into Nigeria, and the so called scarce dollar will become a thing of the past. Business will produce more at cheaper cost and the economy will rebound. 2) Do we need domiciliary accounts in Nigeria? Not even a politically exposed person should have one. Only businesses who have verifiable reasons for fx should have such accounts, and this muct be under strict prudential checks. I can go on and on, but to what benefit?Wasting my pad? While I was bathing this morning, a thought ran through my head, and I was like, do any serious country that thinks about the future still dabble in the primitivity of "state of origin"? Nigeria should do away with it. Rather, place of birth and place of residence should be adopted. I actually don't believe this country can get better. |

Lovit: Insecurity has been an on-going concern and it is peaking up. Some sickness may take years to kill its host so also is Insecurity.
Naira float and subsidy removal worsen the situation.
Production of most of the staple foods like garri are scarcely affected by subsidy removal and naira float, what pushes up prices of locally produced foods more is insecurity. you're wrong sir, insecurity is not the main issue. We witnessed it under buhari. Have you considered the cost of moving garri let's say from Delta to Lagos under Buhari when fuel was 160 versus now it's 650, they can never be the same. The trader who sells garri will need to buy other commodities influenced by dollar. This is the main crux. |
Politics › Re: Nigeria’s Declining Economic Activities Worrisome – CBN by Mandate1: 5:20pm On May 01, 2024 |
Lovit: Forget about Naira floating and subsidy removal
one other great factor pushing up food prices and stuffing economic activities is insecurity
Today, almost in all states in Nigeria, farmers are afraid to go to their farms because of arms bearing Fulani herdsmen
The FG always keeps mute when these terrorists kill and kidnap farmers, even some people in the FG are part of the covert plan to spread armed Fulanis nationwide on fulanization drive. What has Tinubu done differently?
before the end of this year, you all will be buying a paint of garri for N10,000. there's terrorism under Buhari, price of things dint go this haywire. The subsidy removal, floating the naira killed the economy. It's common economics that only a producing and exporting economy should float. Secondly you can't produce without having stable electricity and reduced cost of production. The govt removed subsidy and the cost of producing almost everything went up. Imagine you're a producer and you rely heavily on the use of petrol to produce, if you spend 5000 to produce daily, today your cost of same production using same quantity of fuel will be about 20000. Your cost of production has gone up, but the quantity you supply to the market has reduced cos the purchasing power of the people has also reduced. This is the main issue facing Nigeria. |

Politics › Re: Nigeria’s Declining Economic Activities Worrisome – CBN by Mandate1: 4:50pm On May 01, 2024 |
seborrhic: They are talking of a shrinking economy and one clown is talking of increasing electricity,to further shrink an already distressed economy! When you increase tariffs, companies reduce their working hours to reduce cost, they also have to reduce staff or even close some sections of the company. Even the night time kiosk or small business outfit have to cut their hours, instead of eg,staying till 12 or 1am,they decide to close by 10 or 11pm,reducing their income. So just by increased electricity tariff alone, there would be some contraction in the economy, added to that already caused by fuel and ₦ floating. Assuming Nigeria even had a reliable data base and had been tracking economic activity professionally, they would have known that the economy started contracting since diesel prices went to the roof in previous regimes. But in an economy run on faulty foundations, where a politician can steal government funds and build an estate or companies chiefly for laundering purposes or bragging rights,or where a scammer or kidnapper can hit a goldmine and construct mansions or business mall, all these things don't matter What a sensible goverment would have done now is freeze all increases so people can have more disposable income to buy essentials and 1 or 2 not so essential but driver of the economy. Even this idea that increased electricity tariff will improve the sector, run by political businessmen,is a fallacy Make electricity 1k/kWh under these same companies now running it and there would be no change! you're too intelligent not to be my friend. I buy all you said hook, line and sinker. I've said it before, the major issue was the price of petrol, diesel and now electricity. These 3 things are the foundation of any economy. The present govt thinks they can grow more tax by mere taxing to the roof, ironically it's a direct measure to kill the economy completely. Once the disposable income of the people reduces then there's doom for such economy, its effect will go round. |
