I thought I was the only one that saw this. No matter how we spin it, this may hunt her in the nearest future. Suspending him for not declaring his asset is like "kids gloves" to me. How 3 of his sons heads some of the most important and pivotal arm of government is under her family's control or should I say consumption. When it is said that Leadership is one of the curse of African countries, you do not need to wonder far..... how different is Sirleaf from the below "It is within this context that one can situate the drama currently evolving in Guatemala between President Alvaro Colom, due to leave office in September and his wife, Ms Sandra Torres who is plotting to succeed him. While Article 186 of Guatemala’s constitution forbids relatives of the president from seeking elective office, the First Lady announced on March 11, 2011 that she and her husband had completed a “divorce” by mutual consent. "I am getting a divorce from my husband, but I am getting married to the people. I am not going to be the first or the last woman who decides to get a divorce, but I am the only woman to get a divorce for her country," says the president’s wife in justifying what critics in Guatemala see as a clever ploy by the first family to circumvent the law.13" source http://programs.wcfia.harvard.edu/fellows/files/paper_adeniyi_final.pdf edoyad: Chaiii!! one Family with NSA, NNPC chairman, CBN deputy governor and president(naija equivalent)? Africa will be Africa. She even only suspended him, means he'll be back to his post soon. |
I remember this story (true or joke ).A top Argentine minister invited other ministers including Nigeria to a dinner in his palatial home (hometown, removed from the city) after some diplomatic conference. The palatial home was a master piece, huge, expensive, gold ladden, even the King Fahd palace in Saudi Arabia can't compare....... After taking the minister on tour, the Nigerian Oil minister pulled him aside and asked what his secret was to have amassed so much wealth to put up such an edifice. The minister took him to the balcony at the penthouse, pointed towards an horizon. "You see that bridge?" said the Argentine minister. "Yes" replied the Nigerian Oil minister . The Argentine minister now pulled him close and whispered into his ears "30%". The Nigerian minister looked at him, nodded, smilled and left. 6 months later, a diplomatic meeting was held in Abuja. At the end of the meeting, the Nigerian Oil minister in his vote of thanks said he was obliged to receprocate the good gesture extended to all when they were in Argentina 6months ago. So he invited all to his palatial home in his home town. To say the least, the Nigerian Oil minister's house was twice the Argentine Oil minister's in all ramifications. After they went on tour, the Argentine minister pulled his Nigerian counterpart aside and said "I thought you marvelled at my place 6 months ago, now look at yours, twice mine in all regards. Now you tell me your secret". He was also taken to the balcony of the penthouse and told the Argentine Oil minister to look at the bridge in the horizon. "I see no bridge" he retorted. The Nigerian Oil minister pulled him closer and whispered into his ears "100%" |
Please let's stop gratifying robbery under any guise. Office holders are well paid, get fat allowances and subventions. Besides governors have a fat severance packages and pension and other benefit when they leave office, hence THEY DO NOT NEED TO STEAL AT ALL. Working so hard is for the common good and not for personal benefit. I wonder why we are so soaked in the abys of glutony, corruption and greed. You and your generation's needs are basic. When Orji Uzor Kalu was stealing Abia blind, TELL magazine ran about 2 editions on the rot and the state of stupor the state had been. Where is Abia today? Even Theo Orji, that Kalu quicly swore in 24hrs ahead of schedule to avoid EFCC's arrest resently complained of Kalu's pressure to submit the treasury to him......lesson is that you don't steal a little, you start stealing a little and then you never stop. |
I dont know when you lived or left Lagos, but the underlined is not correct. There are no garbage in Lagos as you're posting. Besides Lagos will probably have the best integrated waste management in West Africa at the moment. I had the opportunity to study Lagos waste management structure when I was on my Bskul thesis. My team actually had a session with the waste management system in Barcelona, then back in Lagos. It would seem LAWMA folks had gone abroad to see how standard things are done. Massive investment in waste trucks, waste on roads cleared everyday (they actually told us that a day's backlog, can cause a problem of 2 weeks), Loading transfer station, Waster compactors and strategies of collection from homes There are gaps though and a lot still to achieve, but in Nigeria today, not even Abuja matches Lagos in waste management structure and strategy. There are massive plans in areas of recycling (which is was the crux of my research), Biogas and Eco-park. Olusosun in Ojota is almost full and the gas escapes and pollutes the environment, hence the government is going in partnership with private sectors to trap the gas and sell as cooking gas. Olusosun will be the first Eco-park. For me,I think you guys should lay of all these your herding approach, repeating wrong information posted by posters that are not in Lagos and neither been to Lagos. Lagos is presently very clean. ocelot2006: Well.....they're kinda right. I hate living in Lagos with a passion. I hate the crazy traffic jams, the congestion, the garbage and water-logged roads, the algea-infested walls of buildings in some areas, and the stench. The last time I was in Lagos, I couldn't wait to get out. Hell, the drive back to MMA was the best drive I had there, cos I was about to board a flight out of there! |
I think before we vent needless nerve and spleen on some inconsequential ratings, we need to really take stock and look at this in other perspectives. This is nothing but borne out of a survey. This rating is actually in a context. I doubt how many of you bothered to actually read the article, much more the criteria of the ratings. In surveys, numbers are thrown around and at times you probably want to balance the results with some additional findings. Be that as it may, I laugh at some of you turning this issue into a contest. I have travelled to South-South from Benin, Warri, Asaba to the east PH, Enugu, Imo and North Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, Niger, Kwara, Kogi etc for me, we have a whole lot of work to be done. I am not even taken by the focusless project done in many states in Nigeria. I landed in Sam Mbakwe Airport, I had to ask myself if I just arrived by nightbus to Jibowu. Benin Airport is another sorry sight. You leave a typical airport and the roads that lead you into the city is a sorry sight. Inner the cities needs rework.....so much for the sad part On the lighter side, I see good works in massive investment in infrastructure like city rail in Lagos, Abuja and PH. These are true cosmopolitan cities if you ask me. I'll probably be looking at per capital income, development indicators, economic indicators, in addition to some of the ones mentioned in the article You guys should lay off the infantile arguments. I guess the outlook of each location a few years from now will tell. For me, how many states can be self sustaining outside oil? |
Dat is why I keep saying a lot of pps commenting (on NL) on Lagos has NEVER set foot on Lagos soil, do not know Lagos and only type false information on NL.FYI, gestures like these has been in operation for over 5years. Almost every major festive periods, Lagbus services are free. Even lately House of Reps and Senate members from most states in SW, provide free buses for people that want to travel to their home towns for festive periods, like "Ojude Oba" festival during the Muslim "Ileya"....... A house of rep member (in mushin I think) has put down a bus for school kids in his constituency. Osun State government, made availble train ride from Lagos to my home-town during the last easter period These are laudable initiatives that are very laudable. I believe many of our government officials can leverage on their revenue generation initiatives to provide meaningful social services |
Well there is nothing bad being highly indebted if you've invested the money into viable and sustainable capital projects that will in the long term lead to revenue generation. This is what I see Lagos have done in the last 15years. |
Bros, I'm not sure if your trying to paint the picture of Lagos under the present administration will serve it purpose; not when you're talking to people who, the closest they gotten near Lagos is Nairaland. I think we underestimate the shallowness of some folks here, the ridiculous ascertions, that will even not pass for a beer parlour analysis, be given credence here. That the article's ascertion on 30Billion is daft enough is not in question, but the seeming ease with which people work so hard not to use their brains is befuddling. Personally I'm afraid for many warped thinking and orientation on this oil money issue. My fear is the question of each state's ability to survive outside the monthly rent, save for Lagos, I doubt if any other... Gbawe: Let me tell you, as a true Lagosian, that Lagos does not need "saving". It needs "more of the same" evolution and anyone who genuinely loves the State and has been associated with Lagos for more than 20 years , wherever they are from, knows that the Leadership of Lagos only deserves praises for the real and far reaching transformation delivered that non of us, genuine Lagosians, ever expected. If I were to tell you the changes my Surulere area alone has seen, after stagnation was all I was used to as a boy growing up in Lagos, we will be here all day!!! Lagos is nowhere close to perfect but genuine Lagosians appreciate the effort of the current leaders of the State. |
My Bros, I have learnt not to look at things from the glittering outlook, herein I share your position. First off, many of those land were not properly bought and documents processed. A lot of people fell to fraudsters and some got fake government documents on land in Abuja. That El-Rufai revoked it, was just the logical thing any government will do. The issue of him allocating it to the family members in neither here nor their. If it was done within the ambit of the law, so what? 8 out of 27k is not insignificant. Let us flip it to the other sides; 1. what qualifies some people and disqualifies the 8members of El-Rufai's family? 2. I hope we no "allocated" does not mean it was given to them free 3. For me, he did not "own up", cos I don't think he has anything to hide. texazzpete: Lol. |
Slow your roll..... I wonder what's with the seeming nerve. I don't need to regurgitate the obvious as already posited by members of the forum. I only gave a perspective to highlight Okija_juju's POV. If you don't get my point then no need stretching it aribisala0: Well I do NOT know what your point is really so I cannot disagree with it. |
...and please tell us what is in the new Testament? CHESSBOARD: Then you have been reading only Old testament |
There are some things that OP can overlook and other things that should be off limits. Please tell your wife to tell his brother to keep off your car and/or do it yourself, else he'll be evicted. |
This is a case of what is expedient, IMO. I do not disagree with your point at all and I empathize with the woman. I know a lot about the military. My immediate Senior brother is an officer in the Army. I know what they are capable of and what the limits are as well. These guys are at best Naval Ratings. A Naval officer will not condisend so low, to go and bring other ratings becos of a beer parlour fight. These ratings are near illiterates. The damage would have been done, even before officers can control them We definitely will fight this ills, the rule of law crusade will never extinguish; but not at the expense of threat to life if we can avoid it. I have learnt to deal with situations like the aribisala0: Your words are wise but not everyone is the same.It is alway easy to be wise after the event. |
Bros, I know you have never been to Lagos, except your cyber journey on NL....... atuboweke: LAWLESS FASHOLA! LAWLESS TIFNUBU!! LAWLESS ACN!!! LAWLESS LAGOS!!!! |
Okija_juju's suggestion may sound harsh, but I think wisdom lies there in. I think a lesson for us all is that it is better to be safe first. Unfortunately she can't identify any of the supposed Naval personnel (who knows if there are not even Naval personnel) I think when confronted with such situation, especially in ones place of business, we should try as much as possible to placat mad customers, so they don't forment trouble. We end up being the ultimate looser Let me share a personal experience. My wife and I ran a factory. One day I received a call that the factory attendant was in the police station. He had a fight with a customer, who wanted to take goods claiming he'd paid when he'd not (this was in Ajelogo market b4 government leveled it. Ajelogo/Akanimado area was a big time slum and we had issues with boys with ridiculous excuse to defraud us) Fight ensued, my attendant (an Hausa) beat us the customer; the boy's mother came to make trouble, could not overpower my attendant......before we knew what was happening, my attendant was in Police cell in Mile12, while the customer was not detained. What counted against him was the Hausa factor. The Police did not want to hear any of his explanation, despite the fact that he was attacked first (He being Hausa was came guilty by default) We spent money to secure his release and close the case. Then I told him - WHY DID YOU FIGHT ? For a dispute of less than 1k, we spent almost 5, and this was because my father-in-law has some police connections......I think we should try as much as possible to avoid confrontation in our place of business, as much as we can. Getting into altercation, insisting that she won't sell food to them and insulting the supposed navy guy and the wife, despite the fact that they were on her turf, is not the smart thing to do... my 2 cents
She shouldnt have fhucked with the Navy... This case is as good as dead on arrival. She can't identify the officers who committed the offence, so what does she expect the Navy to do? MORAL LESSON: Choose your battles wisely...
|
What is bad has no other name; "It is simply Bad" The LASUTH staff(s) has no reason at all to assualt a journalist. There is no way you can spin it. It is either you bar journalist from entering the premises or you state categorically that taking pictures is not allowed. Both ways non requires the brutality This is a responsiblity on both LASUTH and Lagos State Government as it was their employee that commited this crime. Lagos State government, on news this morning, had called a peace meeting with NUJ, promised to replace the destroyed cameras and compensate the victim. I think they should go beyond that. The assualters should be suspended or outrightly sacked as deterrent for some others. Meanwhile, it's a pity that some of you guys are alledging that these are tout. Well, I think a person that assault another fellow deserves to be branded a tout. |
I was about saying the same thing. We get so easily swayed by media blitz that we will soon be back to square one. This same thing we are celebrating now had happened b4 when we set a target of 6000MW only to receed to 3000MW. We are currently in raining season and water level at Egbin is high. If this spike is sustained through dry season is another thing. This is a cyclical thing in the last few years; electricity availability higher in raining season..... Meanwhile what are we celebrating. Food for thought - As at 2003, South Africa was over 45,000MW, taken it to almost 60 before World cup. GAR3TH: Do get your hopes up just yet, the article stated that Electrical generation Spiked to 4237MW. It didnt say electric generation is stabilized at 4237MW. For those of you who dont know electricity generation fluctuates based on a number of factors. A better number to go by is the Average MW of electricity generated, which they did not announce. |
I think you guys are missing a vital point. 1. Calling someone a criminal, tout etc, regardless of the part (ACN or PDP) is outright classless or smacks someone who lacks polish, decorum and commonsense. We must respect the fact that from Musiliu Obanikoro, Olagunsoye Oyinlola to Rauf Aregbesola, Ajimobi etc, these folks have had fantastic academic accomplishment backed with super career in the private sector, military or government. There political affliation is another ball game entirely 2. The OP posted the dumbest and lamest post I have ever seen, and it's suprising that we gave it any recongnition. Fact is PDP, ACN CPC all have people who have risen to the top even before they came into politics. 3. Now politics is a game of power. Anybody that does not recognises that is fooling himself. In the bid for power, politicials unfortunately are associated with extreme things, either the sponsor and support it. There is no party in Nigeria (at least ACN, PDP, CPC) that at one time in the past have no history of violence either within or without. |
I think he got it wrong on telling Bakare to come out. How "out" does he want him to come? If his exploit in SNG, CPC and other freedom crusades are not enough, then I wonder what Okupe is thinking. Meanwhile I think Bakare has come out more than the average politician out there |
Okiki, Please let's not get confused. LASU is an institution that needs to sustain itself. The children of the poor also deserves quality if they wish to pursue their academic intent to university level. My tots on the Makoko issue are these; 1. We just get sentimental over issues that are straight forward. This is not the first time government is reposesing her land illigally habited. 2. No sentiments about it. They are illegal occupants and except they were decieving themselves, knew they were living there on borrowed times. They had no title document to the land they occupy. 3.That slum was an epidemic prone area and was bound to have health effect on other parts of Lagos. 4. Relocating them is illogical. You mean Lagos State government will encourage a pattern where people will just go to any available government land and occupy, and later ask for relocation or compensation when it's time to evict them? 5. Many of the historical land battles in court between private owners have issues when children of some ancestor what to evict other family
Hm! Na wah for all this Political side talk & media backlash. From my discovery, Fashola has done more good to Lagos than harm. My only question for him is 'why is the fee of Lagos State University (LASU) that high'? I learnt LASU school fees ranges between N180,000 - N385,000. If this is true, education is not for all in Lagos. And it is a dent on the image of Fashola. About the hearsay 'Makoko people are not Lagosians & that there was polling centres in that area during the April 2011 Elections' meaning, those people voted in Lagos during that election...I am speechless! Last Bullet; Nigerians should not go for party names but the individuals.
|
I guess the part where Adam is.. ![]() ebamma: which part of heaven? |
my tots as well; you beat me to it. He died going after the forbidden fruit ![]() gulfer: R.I.P, but on the lighter note; why is it that fruit is always the cause of man's misery? Remember the garden of Eden |
;DLWKMDkobezex: In about 6months time u'll hear the girlfriend has married another man. The guy will be forgotten. I remember when I was in sch, a boy went to a river that flowed across our sch with his gf, her scarf fell into the river & like a super hero he dived to get it back & unfortunately drowned. After shedding tears that day, she started going out with another guy barely 2weeks later. |
Until we stop the rent seeking arrangement we currently operate of, some states will continue to denigrade except the ones that are innovative enough to put in place a system to make states self sustaining, and take care of her citizens. We've made billionaires in governors who have stolen so blind and leaves no single legacy But be that as it may, the money for the social scheme does not necessarily have to come from Oil money alone, it could come from taxes and royalties colllected by the state as part of the IGR Kobojunkie: Osun does not have to be one of the 9 states to use oil money. Many States still depend to a huge proportion on monthly allocation from the Federal, that is why I said earlier that comparing this scheme to that in Zamfara state does not do it any good given that many of the schemes in places like Zamfara continue to depend, to a great deal, on 'Oil' money coming in and that is why not much else is accomplished in those states year after year. |
I pray this is not true O! cos if it is I fear for Kaita's life o!!!! |
you were probably absent in that class ![]() aribisala0: Was not in the Syllabus.I guess I was swindled |
You studied business to MBA level, yet you missed that ![]() haba.....aribisala0: Humility is always the best thing in life.I have studied business to MBA level and still find your assertions puzzling. If a company does not need debt I cannot understand WHY they will borrow to JUST TO INSTIL DISCIPLINE. Counterintuitive in my view but I guess we learn something new everyday. Thanks for illuminating the obscure. |
Bros, I think the issue of explaining the rationality of this initiative is unnnecessary beyond this point. I find it ridiculous that questions like "where will the money come from? How sustainable will it be? will drag the discourse to over 5 pages. I thought we will be appraising the model and offering suggestions on developing a veritable social security scheme in Nigeria. I thought we should be talking through lines of statistics of the censors taken, viz-a-viz what it portends in the larger scheme of things in typical Osun state - life expectance, quality of life, MDG penetration etc. I think we should refer anybody asking these questions, to engage the services of google or any other search engine..... Gbawe: My brother, is this not how they doubted OYES? What is that scheme today if not an exemplary model of combating unemployment that African Nations are now understudying? What is clear is that Nigerians, to borrow from Aribisala0, love vainglorious displays. Clearly, this is a very laudable scheme because we all know the undignified images and depressing statistics peddled worldwide about African poverty and deprivation. |
Egon, then the the problem is simply with me overating what is basic. Nothing eluded or so i tot till the ignorance displayed here becomes apparent. I went through JSS class, was thought simple and basic concept applicable to commerce. It is basic becos as it is taught in school, it is likewise taught in a trade. So when when some internet Profs. make ascertions that will make you question their knowledge on something both basic and universal, I guess I can't help it.. The issue is not if I know something that other person or persons do not know......rather is the fool-hardiness of some misleading others with ignorance and demonstrating it with reckless abandon. I'm probably sorry for having less tolerance for people flauting false information here. If someone displays ignorance on something basic, nothing bad in simply correcting, but if someone makes ascertion and I dare add arrogantly on basic issues Or if someone says Osun state has overtaken Lagos debtwise...are those not ridiculous? ...and sir if you do not understand why some company purposely take leverage to instill financial discipline, ....then I'll agree with you on the school part. Well I learnt that in school, probably it was restricted to those that passed thru JSS system. aribisala0: Young man who is we I did not do the JSS thing. |
Mine is Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ |
My brother, It is coloration that turned it into leverage financing. Remember we learnt debit, credit, debt, creditors, borrower, lender etc in Business Studies in JSS class. It is not rocket science to apply these. What is most intruging is that even some semi illiterates (conservatively speaking) will demonstrate better capacity in understanding the value of leverage-financing. No wonder traders in an Alhaji Bayero in Jos central market or President Genral in Alaba will easily access opportunities in financial institution to continually turn in value. Honestly I cry when I see youth of this generation with wrong orientation and it makes you wonder the fate of the country as a whole. the knowledge gap is continually gorging.... aribisala0: Not true Most adults do not know what Leverage-financing is,nothing JUVENILE about that.Do they teach that in JS 3. |
Oga cool down... 1. There is no known petition to date that OYES money is being embezzled 2. The MSc and Phd holders that went to OYES either got their fradulently or on their own foolish volition. OYES is a voluntaire youth empowerment scheme. It is not for MSc and PHd holders, except such are their on their own volition. Anybody on OYES should tell himself that he's there to primarily learn a skill, earn a little living at that and exit the scheme after two years. That is what the TOR says 3. OYES is not an oil company, telecoms, FMCG, Banking or real estate job, so quit all this unnecessary sentiments. Even in Lagos, we have those on similar schemes with a different variation. 4. If you can't understand these then it's a pity. And stop lying, No state has debt up to Lagos....... olapojuo: dat is good 4 u mr ogbeni but ow trustward will u or d person incharge will b on it,op it will not b away of embezzle of osun pple money d way OYES fund is going cos i learnt OYES staff re not up 2 ten thousand due 2 many of themleaving d job when de realize d old job giving 2 them<that is amaster holder or medical doctor etc 2 b cutting grass on d high way> and u re still claming twenty thousand, also did u ve d nos of elderly osun pple or u just form am 4 head WAIT CAN OSUN EVEN SUSTAIN AM COS U DON BORROW PASS LAGOS STATE SELF UNDER 1 AND 1/2 YEARS OP NO B BORROW U GO GO BORROW |
