Politics › Re: Osun Rerun & The 13th Law Of Power by mapet(op): 9:18am On Oct 03, 2018
Nuzo1:
The most heartless politician on earth cannot survive 6 months in politics practising all the 48 laws of power.

Trimming it down, one has to be a big evil to effectively practice a quarter of the laws of 48 laws of power.

So, in other words, if one must succeed, you must not always follow those laws verbatim or think that people who succeeded followed it. Sometimes, things just happen, and when they do, people try to find a principle and attach to it.

That being said, what happened in osun in the past 4 days was a case of the highest bidder. As simple as that. It has little or nothing to do with the 13th law as both PDP and APC both politely appealed to the concerned people's interest. One must give way.

There was no way PDP's unsure/future offers were going to outmatch APC's now now offers. In addition, omisore knew APC was still going to win at all cost. So, why not go for for the money and take the glory at the same time. And it will take a principled non Nigerian politician to reject such offers.

Finally, I will encourage you to celebrate this win because you believe it's best for Osun people, and not because a party or individual you love/hate used a deceptive principle to win election or gain relevance.-

Please note that in developed/enlightened environments; it's hard to effectively practice most of those laws in 48 laws of power. All the examples of Robert Greene's book were in the 16/17th century when the people were almost thinking like monkeys.
Let me react to your submission in two parts below.

1. I think you need to open your mind to the realities of life, rather than take this seeming pessimistic, "can-not" and "glass-half-empty" approach. The book 48-Laws of Power has been and is currently being subjected to review both in the academic and free world. First-off it is not a book about how life is good, angelic, holy and stuffs. It is a book that is reported to be "both unsettling in its unbridled amorality and refreshing in its unabashed honesty". It's principles are applied and used even to each in academic and business learnings and courses. Your submission that it is only applicable in the 16/17th century is to say the least so ridiculous.

2. If you read the book well enough and with understanding, you would have realised that the style in Robert Green's approach is to explain from a balanced perspective. That for every stated law, there was also the reversal of the Law. So that should obviously tell you that Robert Green did not infer that the Laws are applicable in all situation ..... but that in situation when they play out, you are able to analyse your options and choose your path.

3. Why would you want to practice all the Laws in the first place. Personally there are some that are against my personal values and philosophy (Laws 6, 7, 14 & 15 for example) and I try to avoid if necessary even at personal cost. But I believe it is important I am conversant with ALL the laws and understand in situations where I should play them or being played by them

4. A contradiction I find in your submission is that you seem to downplay the applicability of the "Laws" in this scenario, yet your analogy has elements of Laws 8 & 10.

Secondly wrt bold

You are absolutely correct on that, but you miss the essence of this post. This post is not about what is good for the Osun people, but rather about the interplay prior to the re-run. What is good for the Osun people? It is definitely not Adeleke. Oyetola is a matured, temperate and experienced administrator. It is my hope that he is miles above Aregbesola.

Mapet, will you ever abandoned a friend for self interest.?

This Was Your Reply Below

Mapet, the fastest route to failure, is to betray a good relationship for interest.

Interest might die but a good relationship will always be there.

Think not of today but tomorrow.

A wise man will always place friendship above interest.

Watch how we now benefit from remaining loyal to SS despite fully knowing that Jonathan might lose.

Today, the animosity between us is gone forever.

An animosity caused by Zik who placed interest above friendship
.
I don't get you. You seem to make things up on your head and yet you come out unclear.

1. What you call "good relationship" is measured by whose standard? You or another? What good relationship was there between Omisore and PDP(A party he defected from) ab-initio? With example I gave, I came to the conclusion that my "business relationship" with my friend was harming my progress. Do you expect me to continue "digging" because I don't want to harm my friend?

2. "A wise man will always place friendship above interest." - Not in politics.

KNOW WHO YOUR DEALING WITH DO NOT OFFEND THE WRONG PERSON.

The Adeleke's and alongside his proposed duputy are from two families you can't overrun as far as Osun state is concerned.
To me he should have use law 20 DO NOT COMMIT TO ANYONE (it is a fool that always rushes to take sides, do not commit to anyone or cause by yourself. By maintaining your independence you become master of others!omisore has just become a slave to APC let's hope he is not used and dump!!!?
Very Interesting submission....
My take here are these

1. Re: Do not Commit to Anyone - Omisore played his last dice. He had little choice.....He was politically toast. Age is also not on his side. After this period, he would hardly be able to make it to a local govt Councillor. He needed to rescue his descent to political oblivion, hence he had to commit.
2. Re: Know who you're dealing with and do not offend the wrong person - Had it been that you were referring to the Late Isiaka Adeleke (Serubawon), then I would have argued this to be true. Ademola Adeleke is not comparable and has no political antecedents. Had he won this election, he would have started something. I argue that 12months from now, he would be back in the shadows.

Osogbo people voted massively for APC because of Aregbe . Remember
Now that's another head-twister. I will imagine Osogbo people have bought into the understanding of rapid development even with the challenges. Aregbesola gave them roads, drainages, schools and beautification of the city.....

I like Aregbesola..... but I think he has some lessons to take away from this situation. In retrospect, could he had cut back like 20% on infrastructure and not owe salary?

I don’t think he did wrong them in any way.
There are infrastructures everywhere in Ijesaland . All built by Aregbe .
Pdp bought votes massively and forced people to swear oaths .
Pdp also went to some Christian religion leaders and made some shady deals with them , I dont wanna talk about it.
You know majority of Ijesa are Christians .
Most of the Muslims living in Ijesaland are from neighbouring towns.
Bros,

This APC's performance in Ijesha will affect Aregbesola's position in APC. As a leader of the party in the state, the cardinal rule is "You must deliver your constituency".

I still believe the "modulated salary" did him no good.

Even on social media, Saraki's PA (Bankole Omisore) boasted to the whole world that Omisore is his uncle......What has that got to do with Omisore's political future which at that instant was either going to die permanently or something desperate was done.
I am not even an Omisore fan, neither do I welcome his politics.....but facts cannot be denied. So what is hype here? Even my write-up aluded to his political downward-slide when he was ousted from AD and as at 4 days ago, he was about to go into oblivion

6. Omisore missed an opportunity to be in fore-front as a notable leader in Osun. His sorjourn to PDP was less than fruitful. ....

The people have already collected their own share of democratic dividend when they collected 10k to vote . Now the politicians want to collect theirs
1. Omisore will get a Federal appointment post 2019 or a Senatorial nomination.
2. Omisore's folks will get appointment in the new Osun govt.
3. Omisore's power and influence will increase a little.
Politics › Re: Osun Rerun & The 13th Law Of Power by mapet(op): 7:27pm On Sep 27, 2018
So let's look at WIIFM for Omisore.

a. He has opportunity to begin to embed his political structure back into Osun. I heard he was promised 3-4 Commissioner slots among others
b. He could be offered a Senatorial slot
c. He gets to Senate and gets a juicy appointment
d. One of the conditions agreed on what something that speaks to "Local Content" in contracts in Osun. Let me explain this

I remember one time I went home. I was in discussion with my niece's husband, who is an engineer and a staff of the local govt. He complained that most of the contract are awarded to "Lagos-Based" Osun indigene at the detriment of the "Local-Osun" indegene. I realised that apart from the hidden issue of seeming intimidation of we Lagosians, it was insult upon injury that "Lagos-based-Osun" indegene comes to Osun to get contract.

So when I see "local content" in the agreement, Omisore has killed 2 birds with one stone. His companies were practically "black-listed" by Chief Bisi Akande as governor when he discovered Omisore's companies were over-inflating contracts. I remember a road project that was awarded to Nigerian Army Engineering Limited. Omisore's company bidded more than 3x.

With this negotiation, Omisore's companies are back as contractor(s) to Osun state government. Also Local-Osun-based contractors are going to now be awarded contracts.
Politics › Re: Osun Rerun & The 13th Law Of Power by mapet(op): 7:16pm On Sep 27, 2018
6. Omisore missed an opportunity to be in fore-front as a notable leader in Osun. His sorjourn to PDP was less than fruitful. So he needed to get himself back in the frame of things. His objective might have been to be the Governor of Osun state.
7. Both PDP and APC underestimated Omisore's relevance in approaching this election. I did as well. I mean he took almost 20% of the votes cast. Negotiations with Omisore either ways should have been before election and not after (I will explain this later)
8. So election came and a rerun was imminent. Simple arithmetic showed that of the voles left, Ife votes was substantial. In fact Ife votes was enough to wipe out the 350 PDP margin.
9. PDP celebrated when victory was not even in sight. Ask yourself, what's the association between Omisore and Adeleke? On many platforms they are not at par - Political sagacity, intellectually, power-base etc.
10. APC left it late and knew the graver implication of loosing Osun. Winning Osun for South-West APC is a consolidation of its power base and a basis to negotiate on a national level for the 2019 with North-APC. In fact I hazard a guess that Aregbesola himself already has his power-base within APC diluted if that was the sacrifice necessary for the greater good.
Politics › Re: Osun Rerun & The 13th Law Of Power by mapet(op): 7:06pm On Sep 27, 2018
Let me relate the current issue to the above..........

1. PDP badly read the situation, hence they did not understand their initial leverage, neither did they take advantage of it. First off, the voting pattern against APC is really a protest vote against Aregbesola's salary backlog and not the credibility of PDP.
2. PDP did not also assess and see an impending danger as APC narrowed the gap to within the bracket of the cancelled votes, hence forcing a rerun.
3. When it came to rerun, it became obvious that the polling units in Ife will become the deciding factor, consequently Omisore was going to determine the next Governor of Osun state within 4 days.
4. PDP can be likened to the Corinthians described above. I mean, how can PDP rely solely on politically inconsequential premise that Omisore is "brothers" with FFK simply because they came from Ife? Even on social media, Saraki's PA (Bankole Omisore) boasted to the whole world that Omisore is his uncle......What has that got to do with Omisore's political future which at that instant was either going to die permanently or something desperate was done.
4. APC can be likened to the Cocyrans; very pragmatic, understood their situation and how effective to remedy it.
5. Why did Omisore do with APC and what are the implication? Omisore followed APC which appealed to his self interest. Some of us who followed politics very well will note that Omisore actually belonged to the progressive stock. He was the one that suggested the name Alliance for Democracy (AD) as the party name and paid the required N5m (if my memory serves me right) to bail out the new party so they could meet the dead-line of registration in 1998. He was in prime position to be the governorship candidate in the 1999 election that produced Chief Bisi Akande. Late Bola Ige had to appeal to Omisore to let Bisi Akande be governor and he the deputy.......probably with the understanding that he will take over after...........

Omisore has Ife as his grassroot base. Till date no one has ever beaten him in Ife. In fact he beats opponents mercillessly in Ife. Omisore also sells a picture to Osun people as someone that understands them. Omisore never wanted to rock the boat on the "economic set up" of Osun state. In other words, he sees Osun as a perpertually Civil-Servant's state. In other words virtually all families have or must have someone in the civil service (teachers, local govt workers or state govt officers). The governor should not bother with stuff regarding commerce, just make sure salaries are paid

Folks!

I want to analyse and submit my take on a perspective (Omisore-as-the-courted-bride). Let me first refer us to the Law 13 of 48 Laws of Power - Law 13: When Asking For Help Appeal To Peoples Self-Interest, Never To Their Mercy Or Gratitude. I will also like to lift the analogy that Robert Grene used to back up this law.

Pls stay with me this might take some threads

Judgement
“If you need to turn to an ally for help, do not bother to remind him of your past assistance and good deeds. He will find a way to ignore you. Instead, uncover something in your request, or in your alliance with him, that will benefit him, and emphasize it out of all proportion. He will respond enthusiastically when he sees something to be gained for himself.”
Observance Of The Law
In 433BC, just before the Peloponnesian War, the island of Corcyra (later called Corfu) and the Greek city state of Corinth stood at the brink of conflict.

Both cities were trying to win over the Athenians to their side. Whoever could convince Athens to their side were likely to win the war. The stakes were very high. Ambassadors were sent from both parties to negotiate with Athens.

When the ambassador for Corcyra spoke, he spoke with great honesty and bluntness. He admitted the island never helped Athens before, and in fact even allied itself with Athens enemies. There were no ties of friendship or gratitude between Corcyra and Athens. The ambassador admitted he had come to Athens out of fear and concern for Corcyra’s safety. The only thing he could offer was an alliance of shared mutual interest. Corcyra had a navy only surpassed in size and strength by Athens own. Thus an alliance between the two states would create a formidable force that could intimidate the rival state of Sparta. That was all Corcyra had to offer.

The ambassador for Corinth now spoke. He spoke in a manner that was much more lively and passionate — a sharp contrast to the dry colorless approach of the Corcyran. Corinth and Athens had a strong relationship in the past, he had talked about all Corinth had done for Athens in the past. He asked how it would look to Athens other allies if the city put an agreement with a former enemy over one with a present friend, one that had served Athens interest loyally. He referred to the ‘Hellenic law’, and the need to repay Corinth for all it’s good deeds. He finally continued to list the many services Corinth had performed for Athens and the importance of showing gratitude to one’s friends. In essence the Corinth ambassador was attempting to guilt Athens.

The Athenian’s debated and voted on the issue. They voted overwhelmingly to ally with the first city, Corcyra over Corinth.

So why would they choose a former enemy that had not done anything previously for Athens over an ally state that had?
Interpretation
Corcyra’s ambassador understood the type of people they were talking to. They essentially reverse engineered the individual's character values and philosophies in order to speak ‘Athens language’ — in terms of what’s valuable to them.

They understood the Athenian’s were realists. All the rhetoric and emotional appeals in the world (Corinth) could not match a good pragmatic argument, especially one that added to their power. What the Corinthian ambassador didn’t realise was that his references to Corinth’s previous generosity only irritated the Athenian’s. Subtly asking them to feel guilty and putting them under obligation — people don’t want to feel like their being pressured and controlled by guilt. Additionally, the Athenian's couldn’t care less about past favors and friendly favors. The lesson is, there’s going to be many who don’t care about what you did for them yesterday. They’re going to ask, what are you going to do for them today?

Madam,

with due respect, your position is that of a by-stander and will never be the reality to both parties. The reality here is that we have to bear the consequences of our actions & inactions. Having kids outside wedlock just most of the time never turns out well. It makes enemies of the two parties. You cannot in all sense judge who is wrong or right because you do not understand perspectives of either parties. Like I wonder how Shola expects communication to be on her terms (if I were Whizkid)? If I were Whizkid, I will purposefully try to avoid Shola if I can help it. And for Whizkid, how do you not expect a woman that has a child for you not to depend on you for virtually everything. To her there's actually not lines between necessities and luxuries, and considering Whizkid's wealth......I imagine how Shola feels, that Whizzy other kids have more "attention" (whether true or not) and contrasts this to how Whizzy prays Tife turns 18 like yesterday.

Many people cursing Whizkid will not change anything, except the grace of God. Someone should tell Shola to take this matter off social media. Get elders of both families to establish a trues and let wisdom guide them.

A situation where we believe in theory aided by cramming everything crammable and pouring them all out as had been crammed without the ability to identify or relate with the subject matter even when it stares us in the face physically is our bane as a nation.

Most of us are limited in our practical knowledge of fields we claim and bandy certificates about as our areas/fields of expertise.

The question is, why are they putting out a public statement as an agency about 48 hrs after rumours of the first tremors were going viral.

One would have expected them to put out an information to dispel the rumours or misinformation to avert a panic situation.

How can you even sit and type that they were quiet so as not to cause panic?

God knows why he had deliberately shielded us from major disasters. We would have all perished and dwelling in the belly of the earth before a state of emergency or an alert will be issued.

May God continue to hide us under the shadows of his wings, because as we can see, we are left to our own vices.

Enjoy my siggy
Please be sure of your statements, especially when you make assertions that are factually incorrect.
As soon as the Tremor started 48hrs ago, I know for a fact that Dr. Joe Abah (ex-DG of BPSR) placed a call to NIMET to ascertain whether it was a bomb blast or impending natural disaster. NIMET informed him that their was patterns of tremors and they were monitoring.

There is a guided way, a Standard Operating Procedure to communicate issues like this. You don't want to cause unnecessary panic and escalate things beyond necessary. SOPs could say monitor for X period, 1st level communication after X+Y period and then evacuate after X+Y+Z period...

I understand your altruistic intention in your post but also observe that some of your comments show some shortcomings....
wink2015:
The massive entourage he took down to China was an unnecessary drain on tax payers in Nigeria. - So let's play it like this, judging from what we knew before they left and what they came back with, tell me who should have been dropped from the entourage
President Buhari will be accompanied to Beijing by his wife, Aisha, who is scheduled to participate in a Spouses’ Programme on China-Africa at the Great Hall of the People, under the theme, ‘‘Joining Hands for a Future of AIDS.’’

Also on the President’s entourage are Governors Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, Akinwunmi Ambode, Mohammed Abubakar and Rochas Okorocha of Bauchi, Lagos, Jigawa and Imo States respectively.

Others are Senators Abdullahi Adamu, George Akume, Godswill Akpabio and Aliyu Wamakko representing Nasarawa, Benue, Akwa Ibom and Sokoto States respectively.

Also accompanying the President are: the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Minister of FCT, Muhammad Bello; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah; Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma; Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu; Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, and Minister of State, Aviation, Hadi Sirika.

Others are the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; the Director General, National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Abubakar; and the Group Managing Director, NNPC, Maikanti Baru.

With youth unemployment soaring high and now getting worse.I will be interested in a current statistics of rising youth unemployment

Nigeria need a President that understand [b]modern day economics
and how to build national wealth. You just throw around vague words. What is "modern day economics"?

I give kudos to President Muhammadu Buhari for his unrelenting war against corruption in Nigeria.

It is actually true that corruption set us back here in Nigeria and Africa as a continent.

But President Buhari should not have devote 100 per cent of his efforts on the fight against corruption.

There is other pressing challenges in Nigeria like youth unemployment, boko haram insurgency in the north eastern part of Nigeria, Fulani herdsmen/farmer clash, armed robbery and kidnapping, ritual killings, rape cases increasing by the day, yahooplus and internet fraud, prostitution, militancy, political thuggery etc

Last but not the least there is also the problem in the power sector.

There is no community in Nigeria that is not facing epileptic power supply in Nigeria.false statement. Even the several informal surveys carried out on Nairaland contradicts this position of yours

This is not good enough for the overall growth and development of Nigeria.

If the power sector is developed and there is regular electricity. It will go a long way in reducing unemployment in Nigeria as more factories will increase their production capacity. Many artisan such as welders, barbers, tailors, hair dresser, bakers etc will create job for themselves without the financial stress of powering their generator to sustain themselves in their trade.

President Buhari trip to China should not be archived in the political history books of the government without recording massive growth in the Nigeria economy.

The Nigeria government must engaged with the Chinese leadership and Chinese investors to develop the dying Nigeria economy.

The federal government of Nigeria together with state and local government should partner with the private sector to develop agriculture.

Massive employment will be generated from agriculture as agro allied industry will have ready and steady supply of farm produce to convert to finish goods.
Pls feel free to engage me on this.

Senseless President...the wife should have been in front or beside him.
only a fool think dat way so far dat dey re cumin home together dey re wcum back home,
In addition, we seem to be so much accustomed to see things through the "western" ways and culture. The Arabs may not see that as an issue, rather the woman could as a sign of respect and honor allow the man to be ahead........

Point is, we need to understand differences in orientations and ways of life and respect it........even if we may not agree with it
