You are comparing South Africa to Nigeria...a country with so many coups, transitions and corruptions. You are missing my point. If we have to become better, we have to be productive...and focusing so much on sports and entertainment without a plan to create economic development around said will only enrich some few people.

phemmyfour:
You mean, you can't compare yourself to South Africa that has won most world cup in rugby and doing well in economy and technologies. Continue to excuse the failure of your leaders on sports n entertainment

Our productivity is not comparable. Those countries have machines that can do so much. There are sports in China, but you will never see them indulging in these stuff like we do here...these sports are entertainment played by millionaires against millionaires. When you watch different soccer leagues a week, that is close to 10hours lost on productivity per person...now multiple that by 52 and then by the number of population. Now, if these are employment generators, I wont complain much. In sane countries, lots are done to capitalize on sports.

Housing and Hotels for Players and Fans
Concession stands and hiring...
Jerseys sales and Jersey stands
Food supply to the Stadiums by companies and drinks

Its not just the sport per se...they make it about the business of the sports. If they are not making money, such sport or sports would be sold. So, I say it again...we need to become serious as a country, and maybe the Govt should get out of the business of sports because its another way to siphon funds anyways, and we cannot afford to pay all these foreign players. Let MTN and Glo take over these. Hmmm

phemmyfour:
Lol, other countries are developing all sectors simultaneously. If your Country can't do that, go n rest. You always put the blame on bbn, sport etc

Your answer...YES...Police will chase drivers and endanger other motorists....its all on YouTube...and even if police kills someone in a chase...the driver will be charged for the crime of endangering the people leading to the chase...and involuntary manslaughter. So there you have it...you can study it yourself with USA as a case study.

yewit37486:
He was being chased by LASTMA so they must share the blame. Simple.

Would police in those countries chase a driver in a manner that would endanger other road users? No. Because they have other means of getting the driver penalised. The ones here act in a most reckless manner and definitely must share in the blame. Other people here have shared countless experiences with LASTMA so let's not act like they conduct themselves in a way that is safe to other road users.

No they do not. There is no proof they jumped into this vehicle, and why did the driver run? What is he running from? Is he driving without a license? We just LOVE lawlessness. Police will pull you over in sane country and even bring out a gun...you sit silently and follow instructions. They can also pull you over and delay you for 45mins...you follow instructions. Any mistake, you are dead. Why? They are considered the LAW to protect against lawlessness. Please blame the person that needs to be blamed. In sane country, the driver is as good as dead...cos with 2 life sentences, endangering the public, reckless driving, running away from the scene of an accident, failure to yield to law enforcement....lets just say...he will die in prison.

yewit37486:
I doubt you have any idea how notorious LASTMA is in Lagos, people who would be jumping into cars and struggling with the driver for the steering wheel, this is not the first time they have caused similar incidents, so please they also EQUALLY share the blame with the driver.

The driver of the Honda Saloon car with number plate EPE 984 DV that rammed into the Lagos State Waste Management Authority sweepers while they were discharging their duties along Gbagada Expressway on Monday morning has turned himself in to the police.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday.

Hundeyin said the driver would be charged to court on Tuesday for manslaughter.

He said, “The owner of the Honda Saloon car turned himself in yesterday (Monday) night and he will be taken to court today for manslaughter.

"It was not murder, it was an accident and was not deliberate, so he will be charged with manslaughter.”

It was earlier reported that the driver after crushing the two LAWMA sweepers took off leaving his car.

He was reported to have rammed into the sweepers while allegedly trying to escape from officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

However, the Ministry of Transportation in a statement on Monday night denied the involvement of LASTMA officials in the accident, stating that anyone found culpable after investigation will be punished accordingly.

The statement partly read, “Immediate investigation revealed that no LASTMA officer was involved in the unfortunate incident.

“The Ministry of Transportation wants to assure members of the public that the outcome of the police investigation will be made public and anyone found culpable would be made to face the consequences of the law.”

The force profile for a bridge is completely different from road supported from underneath by the earth. For slabs of cement used to build roads, the force is almost entirely compressive, whica unreinforced cement blocks can manage without issue, while bridges will typically have much larger force profile, including torsion, sheer and compression, hence necessitating the use of steel reinforcements.

Politics › Re: Group Exposes Cement Roads Done By Umahi In Ebonyi (Pictures) by MasterTeeUSA: 1:22pm On Nov 11, 2023
Force is entirely compressed...I just smile. Again you need to pay attention in school. The ground is always shifting and steel reinforcement is used on roads in the US. They remove the asphalt and repave them...they can do the full maintenance within 2-3 days because cars and trucks can still ply the road during maintenance due to reinforcement. Go to factories in Nigeria...you will see steel wire mesh. I use them in all of my compounds and you won't see cracks...5yrs in...I do exactly what needs to be done...steel reinforced cement plastering. Nigeria roads do not have weight limits...if anything, that should be the norm not the exception

Steel reinforcement are absolutely useless...which school did you go to? What will distribute the load bearings coming from trucks? Please pay attention in school...maybe they shouldn't use steel reinforcemt when building bridges as well. No wonder we have roads that don't last long...because of mindsets like this. There is a reason why we use reinforced steel in buildings specific to the type of buildings you construct. In case you forgot...go back all the way to Young Modulus

Alusiizizi:
That is actually quite wrong. For starters, steel reinforcements are absolutely useless when building roads. The main issue here is that the idi0ts that built those roads forgot to take thermal expansion into account, when the sun comes up, that hard cement will expand and crack, and with regular use, completely destroyed in a matter of months. What a real engineer would have done if he wanted to build roads with cement would have been to do it block-wise, putting flexible buffers between each and every block that make up the road to allow for afore-mentioned thermal expansion. In tar roads, it is the tar that serves the dual purpose of adhesive and flexible buffer between the gravel that it is mixed with.

The issue here is two fold...no steel reinforcement and the thickness of the concrete road. Concrete is by far better than Bitumen and easily maintained with more cement ...and they need to also limit the loads on our roads.

This is what Buhari said all universities ought to do but the cabals called ASUU rejected it. Obaseki offers automatic employment to 12 first class graduates of Edo varsity

…to prioritise furnishing of school’s medical sciences with world-class facilities

... pledges completion of teaching hospital, others in 2024

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has offered automatic employment to 12 first class graduating students of the Edo State University, Uzairue.

The governor, at the school’s fifth convocation ceremony in Etsako West Local Government Area of the State, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to building quality manpower to sustain the ongoing reforms in the State’s civil and public service to drive development in the State.

He said, “As usual, all those 12 students that made a first class in this set have automatic employment into Edo State Civil Service; your job is waiting for you.

“We have made it a standard that any graduate from any of our universities in Edo State who makes a first-class should be given automatic employment in our public and civil service. We want to build quality manpower.”

He continued: “As we mark the fifth convocation, the institution has continued to blaze the trail in teaching and research in Nigeria. This academic year has been challenging but we are, today, celebrating the first set of our nine doctorate degree students.

“The university has played an indispensable role in shaping the academic and personal growth of all of you who have graduated today. This university has nurtured your mind and infused values of critical thinking, and integrity and has propelled you to become responsible citizens of our State and country.”

“It is not just celebrating your individual successes but also about acknowledging the responsibilities that come with the knowledge that you have acquired. The knowledge and education we have given you is to enable you to navigate the very difficult but inspirational times ahead of you.”

Obaseki further noted, “As a government, we are committed to providing unwavering support to the university. In this regard, in next year's budget, we are going to furnish the school of medical sciences with requisite infrastructure and complete the school's teaching hospital.”
“I have also deployed fibre optic internet connectivity to this school so as to support the effort you have made in using technology to facilitate learning.”

Commending the governor’s sustained investment in the education sector, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Engr. Emmanuel Aluyor, linked the successes recorded in the institution to the governor, who is the visitor of the university.

Earlier in his message, the Chancellor of the school and Chairman of the occasion, Prof Emeritus Thomas Okpo K. Audu lauded the governor for creating an enabling environment and the needed support for the institution to thrive.

They signed MOU with the Government on No WORK No Pay before the Govt agreed to pay half of their withheld salaries. They probably told them they will forfeit that by going on strike and should also not expect payment for work not done. They need to rethink their strategy...and become a neutral entity. Being the sidepiece for LP wont help the Labour Movement. Tinubu is not Buhari...Lagos and SW States and Northern States will not join them in brutalizing the country...it will just be a SE affair...and even that is not guaranteed at this point. Maybe they will start beating people with sticks again to force them to join their illegal strike action. Go to COURT and seek redress with proof. New research suggests more immigrants to Canada have chosen to leave in recent years, a threat to a country that relies on immigration to drive population and economic growth.

The rate of immigrants leaving the country, or onward migration, has been steadily increasing since the 1980s and is rising among recent cohorts, suggesting newcomers “may not be seeing the benefits of moving to Canada,” according to a study on immigrant retention by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship and the Conference Board of Canada.

The report, published Tuesday, underscored the risks of Canada failing to meet expectations of newcomers, who are facing worsening housing affordability, a strained health-care system and underemployment, among other issues.

It also highlighted how disillusionment among immigrants can slow down progress even in a country that consistently sets fresh records for population gains.

“It’s a reflection on our broader society and more intractable failings that we have. If immigrants are saying ‘no, thanks’ and moving on, that’s a real existential threat to Canada’s prosperity,” Daniel Bernhard, chief executive officer of the Institute for Canadian Citizenship, a pro-immigration advocacy group, said in an interview.

“We need to wake up and recognize that if we don’t deliver, people will leave. And if they leave, we’re in trouble.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has been using immigration to rapidly add more workers to stave off economic decline from an aging populace.

But record population growth in recent years has led to growing criticism that its policies have exacerbated existing housing shortages and added more pressure on infrastructure and services like health care.

IzunnaOkafor:
By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The first Nigeria's academic Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Ben Nwabueze, has died.

This is coming ten years after the legal luminary had begged God to give him more five years to finish his works on earth before calling him home.

Prof. Nwabueze had made the call in 2013 during the presentation of his two-volume autobiography titled: “Ben Nwabueze, His Life, Works, Times - An Autobiography,”

Howbeit, the popular constitutional lawyer, died on Sunday, at the age of 92 years.

Prof. Nwabueze, a one-time Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, who hailed from Atani in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, was said to have passed on in his hometown.

Until his death, he was a teacher, administrator, businessman and former Minister of Education and Youth Development.

According to reports, Nwabueze's academic pursuit started at the CMS Central School Atani, from 1938 – 1945; C.M.S Central School, Onitsha (formerly, African College), 1947 – 1950. He later went to London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London, 1956 – 1961 and School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, 1961 – 1962. From 1962 – 1965, he was Senior Lecturer at Holborn College of Law, London, and Senior Lecturer, University of Nigeria Nsukka, between 1967 – 1970. In 1971, he was Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Zambia and Director, Law practice Institute, Zambia, 1973 – 1975

Although, well supported by both father and uncle initially, the greater part of his Academic pursuits abroad were made possible by scholarship awarded to him for his academic excellence.

Prof. Nwabueze earned his Doctor of Laws (LL.D) at the University of London in 1978, based on his three outstanding books – Constitutionalism, Presidentialism, and Judicialism, thus entering the record books as the second (since the death of Dr. T.O. Elias), the only Nigerian and African holder of a higher doctorate degree in Law by published works.

He is also the first academic lawyer to be made a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 1978 strictly on the basis of his published works.

A seasoned Academician, he was member of Senate of the Universities of Lagos, Dar-es-salaam, Nairobi, Haile Selassie in Ethiopia, Lesotho, Botswana and Swaziland between 1971 – 1978.

He was appointed the University Assessor for Academic Appointments, Universities of Ghana, Lagos, Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and Jos between 1978 – 1979.

A firm believer in publishing, Prof. Ben Nwabueze is the proud author of over thirty books and treatises with an average extent of 400 pages. They include; The Machinery of Justice in Nigeria; Constitutional Law of the Nigerian Republic; Nigerian Land Law and Constitutionalism in the Emergent States. Others are Presidentialism in Commonwealth Africa, Judicialism in Commonwealth Africa; The Presidential Constitution of Nigeria; A Constitutional History of Nigeria; Federalism in Nigeria under the Presidential Constitution; and Nigeria’s Second Experiment in constitutional Democracy in Africa in Five Volumes.

He has written over 200 articles in academic journals and more than 100 keynotes at local and international conferences.

Prof. Nwabueze had long been partially incapacitated with age and ill-health, until the news of his demise.

It is easier for her to apply for an apartment, run up and down jobwise and save enough for tickets and all. She needs to be OK so the stress of your expenses plus the baby....wont be a major liability and a major issue for your marriage. I doubt she will leave you and the baby and forget about Nigeria...as for the baby food and breast feeding...that is overrated. If the baby is OK...she can send enough funds for you to buy high end meals for the baby...but the plan for reunification should be 3-6 months.

She will be going alone (A hard and tough decision i must confess) leaving the me and my 5 months old baby till when things are soft for us to join her.

I don't know how easy or how soon it will be for her to send invite for us to join her.
How's life in the UK with a single mum?

Who have passed through this situation and how did you people pull through

All talks --- no transparency. That is how you know Nigerians are gullible people. He should show bank statements every month...contracts awarded and how much he is paying per meter of road constructed, who are the people managing their money...did they declare their assets openly before his government? We love to believe whatever soothes our narrative...this is why we get what we get. We set standards too low. I don't even care if they loot...I just want open government...we can at least all see where they overpaid one another.

The Church turned political instead of speaking to the hearts of people, being a refuge, providing shelter, providing food for the needy, the widows and the orphans...now the hearts of men have gone dark and no one is spared. At some point, the Church will need to decide what it wants to be. I pray for his safe return. We need to do better as a people.
