Politics › Re: Ban Sports Betting Apps, Reno Omokri Urges Tinubu by MasterTeeUSA: 3:28am On Jan 04, 2024 |
Great Point by Reno...some of the things that have evaporated the middle class in Nigeria and diverted money to the rich 1. Data and Social media...we are Twitter, instagram, YouTube, Facebook burning data to watch folks that are rich getting richer. 2. GoTV and Dish ...some are spending N25k per month equivalent of N300k a year just to watch 5 - 10 channels max on Dish 3. Sports Betting and Sports ...we spend some many valuable time watching sports especially those that bet on them...its only a little money daily. Well it adds up idiot. 4. Alcohol and Weeds ...it used to be terrible kids that smoke at all or drink...now we spend both legit and stolen money on weeds 5. Private schools ...so many of them. N300k per year from Primary 1 - 6 and JS 1 - SS3 is N300k * 12 = N3.6 million per child. By the time, you finish at tertiary, almost N5m will be spent on each child. Guess what...most are still coming out to fight for jobs with kids that went to public schools. If you attend Private tertiary, you will spend almost N10m per child from PreK to First Degree...for parents who are well prepared, the graduates will japa, have jobs waiting...and for the rest, good luck if the child didnt even make 1st or 2.1. I wont add females to the list because that was always in vogue from the beginning of time...even though it might be worse now, but these 4 things above...check your budget and thank me later. There are other loss of income like two cars and petrol...unless you are using the cars to generate money. Very few people in their 40s can count families that had more than 1 car growing up. Some of these are what we call..."Agbana - things that take your money away" I am not saying you should not bam bam...but grow your wealth first then indulge if you must. adenigga: Social media influencer, Reno Omokri, has urged President Bola Tinubu to ban sports betting apps in the country.
According to Omokri, a ban on sports betting apps could even help improve the value of the Naira.
Omokri, who quoted the National Lottery Trust Fund. lamented that “$1 billion is spent on gambling daily in Nigeria.”
The media influencer expressed his views in a series of tweets shared via his X profile on Wednesday.
His tweet read, “President Tinubu can immediately improve the economic conditions of most Nigerians and make the Naira grow by issuing an Executive Order authorising the Nigerian Communications Commission to ban sports betting apps from the App Store of any GSM Internet Service Provider in Nigeria and revoking the licenses of any physical sports betting operators in Nigeria. It makes better sense than Buhari’s draconian #TwitterBan.”
The former Special Assistant to erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan stated that an average Nigerian spends “$15 daily on sports betting and other types of gambling.”
Omokri noted that despite the high rate of gambling in the country, the “vast majority of that amount” is leaving the shores of the country into foreign nations, compared to the nation’s externally generated revenue.
“This is scary. How much is our GDP that we are pissing it away like that? More money is leaving Nigeria through gambling than is coming in,” he wrote.
Omokri cautioned., “The Naira can never sustain its rally under such circumstances.”
The tweet stated further, “There is such an epidemic of gambling in Nigeria and it is destroying Nigerian youths. $1 billion is spent on gambling daily in Nigeria, according to the National Lottery Trust Fund. Please fact-check me.
“The average Nigerian spends $15 daily on sports betting and other types of gambling, with the vast majority of that amount leaving our economy and going to places like Russia, South Africa, and Europe. The Naira can never sustain its rally under such circumstances.”
Findings by PUNCH Online reveal that several sports betting firms operate in Nigeria. Some of the betting firms include Bet9ja, Nairabet, Merry Bet and SportyBet, amongst others.
Omokri, in his post, further urged Tinubu to “act on such a matter as threatening to our national security as this gambling epidemic.”
He also condemned the illegal means through which some Nigerian youths sought money “to fund their gambling habit.”
PUNCH Online reports that the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Zephaniah Jisalo, said the Federal Government would find a lasting solution to the friction caused by revenue generation in the gaming sector.
Jisalo noted that the FG “will do all within its statutory powers to ensure the gaming industry remains on the steady path of sustainable growth and development,” while speaking at the 2023 International Gaming Conference held at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos State, on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
The Fund’s Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Bello Maigari, appearing before the House of Representatives Committee on Finance on Monday, November 20, 2023, stated that the Fund, in 2023, generated N2.5 billion, noting however that the entire sum had been spent in the execution of various projects across the country.
The money, he said, was generated from statutory remittances from licenses and permit holders.

Why play the victimhood all the time? When Niger Bridge 2 was done...it was...Federal Govt is trying to put tolls in order to take money out of SE. So if the Fed Govt cant recoup investment, and decided to do a cheaper narrow gauge, why all the noise? Most of the big men in SE will take planes...only goods and cargo will be moved and its a faster cheaper investment to expand into SE. Why? I think its best practice to start what you can complete...thats why we have thousands of abandoned projects. Do the calculations and put enough people on the site. Skyscrapers can be built in less than 2 years...all these projects can be done within 4yrs if you use multiple contractors and plan it well. The longer it takes, the more expensive or unpredictable it gets. See Wike, he completed all and let Fubara commission some of them. Khyrvxjzy: ipob |

See ...they also love subsidies...just get paid from Govt...no one wants to put in the effort to get funds from customers knowing services are terrible...anyways the news has been debunked ..no tariff hikes TruthsFM: More Hardship Looms For Nigerians As DisCos Set To Increase Electricity Tariff On Jan 1
While the pains of fuel subsidy removal still linger, the confusion surrounding a planned electricity tariff increment starting from January 1, 2024 has compounded the worries.
It was gathered that the officials of the Nigeria’s Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) held a virtual emergency meeting recently to formalise and perfect the planned tariff increase.
A source in one of the DisCos, who claimed anonymity, confirmed the development to Daily Trust on Sunday.
The source said: “All has been perfected for the new tariff to take effect from the first of January, 2024.
It is now left for various electricity distribution companies to enlighten their customers on new developments.”
The source said the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) had already invited distribution companies for a meeting on the development. He expressed fear that while it is mandatory for electricity distribution companies to regularly evaluate tariffs every six months, the recent increase would meet customers’ dissatisfaction.
“In fact, we were perturbed by the short notice and how we would reach out to our customers about the increase,” he said. Asked how much the increase would be, the source said, “No idea so far, but the uncertainty has put us in a difficult situation.”
Recall that in November 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stopped the implementation of the electricity tariff, insisting on a power sector subsidy.
Speaking on Tinubu’s directive on electricity tariff hikes, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said, “The power sector is an industry that is very sensitive to any leader.
“You cannot jump overnight and implement the cost-reflective tariff. I can tell you that till today, the government still subsidises power”.

Tinubu is not 1yr into his administration...they just passed his 1st budget. We didnt have enough funds to defend the Naira so subsidy removal prevented the country's collapse. Ive said this before...Bloomberg said the Naira had to fall...the goal here is to collapse importation...then build up export...which right now..non Oil Revenue has passed N4 trillion. Refinery rehab is ongoing. Dangote has received 3 million barrels ..sit there and be looking for the doom that won't happen. Fujiyama: ^^^

Bola Tinubu is failing. That is the honest truth.
One lesson for all of us from this administration's troubles: it is always better to underpromise and over deliver...than to overpromise and underdeliver.
This administration made headlines by removing fuel import subsidies and floating the Naira within a few weeks of assuming power. As we speak however, the subsidy has been reinstated and the government is struggling hard to get a facility loan from AFREXIM in what will be an ultimately futile short term effort to defend the Naira.
So...the administration's signature policies have been reversed in less than 12 months and we are right back where we started...and we now have galloping inflation and chronic currency depreciation as the (perhaps) unintended but clearly inevitable consequences of Bola Tinubu's policy misadventures. In every way, the country is worse off now than it was before. Which of course raises the question: what was it all for? What was the point? |

Again you were not reading my writeups..Tinubu was not in my Tops.. Umahi was my number 1...he had no choice as a newbie to APC, Amaechi was the dark horse ...his problem was lack of a political base in his own state...then Tinubu. You picked Obi because you believe in social justice...do you know anything about his personal business and how he practices social justice? I guess not. Then you have a guy who wanted to win PDP ticket...left and join LP after APGA. You talk about party ideology my friend...which ideology is he leading with...APGA, PDP or LP. Almost all his supporters are PDP transplants. Who do you think would be in his cabinets...you? You need to follow APC's policies. How do we strengthen the country for the future so we won't be doing the same thing and expecting different results...are all APC members great or saints...nope but you need to look at the overall party and see the brains of brains there. We tried with Obama here and guess what...it was a major flop. Peter Obi can't even convince his people to vote for his Govs...and he campaigned for some. I wish we had a better way of communicating ...my issue is not the man...the man might mean well or has good intent...but intent is not enough to govern well...intent isn't good leadership. You see...I tell people Mandela was a good inspirational person but he wasn't a great leader...South Africa after him is still saddled with issues not resolved. Peter Obi in trying to pacify all parties would have led a divided country with controversial plans that won't have gone anywhere...maybe his few LP would have gone with PDP to try to give him a small majority...or bullied his way into the National Assembly...what you have seen with the few LPs you currently have shows LP is not the principled party you think it is....so i will leave you with this wise saying...a known devil is better than an unknown angel. We know Tinubu and Lagos...he is not a Saint...and his followers are not blind. ablejesus26: And You picked tinubu I guess??
Its very important to know and understand the various political institutions this people rally with, this is one big problems We continue to face with the electorates.
I asked one APC nigga to tell me the psychological and ideological standings of APC as a political party and how they hence affect the affairs and lives of the Country, He does not even understand that political parties should bear ideologies, to him like many other this is plainly a my candidate, my party must Win thing.
I stood with LP bcus I am sold out to the foundational ideology of social justice of Lp World wide.
Some of You think this Lp movement is just a Nigerian thing. Search for LP UK created 1900 and maybe You can understand why its important to have a people's movement to challenge this evil hearted fifth columnist We have for leaders. |

The same way I felt Oshibanjo would have been a terrible President you see...I didn't pick him in my Top 3. ablejesus26: Well its obvious You did not click the link.

The problem here is we all don't want to listen and counter without making it tribal. Now, you claim Anambra is the safest and yet you fail to realize that his failure to have infrastructure in place showed in just few months of his departure. I am sure you ignore the gully erosion problem which a forward thinking leader should have focus on ..like Lagos did. I know what Lagos used to be and the level of reforms and legacies of Tinubu has lived past his administration. Where is Obi's blueprint for Anambra? I have watched almost all his interviews. I don't even see a coherent plan to take Nigeria forward. Some of us just don't follow blindly. You want to produce...how do you Nationalize Land for public use, capture revenues and build lasting legacies...Lagos did not accelerate after Tinubu by default. Returning schools back to private hands is a way of saying Anambra can't run schools...good..but can the poor afford the private schools...did he give out grants and is that something that can be maintained? ablejesus26: How did I ever insult You You turned this discuss into Lagos vs Anambra, this is how it starts, its no news how a good lots of mofos here turn every discuss into senseless tribal banters. You don't have to like the man Obi but You can't dispute of the facts and stats, even His critics know He is an awesome public servant.
Obi was incompetent yet Anambra was rated most safest State in Nigeria back to back. Insecurity rocks a system where incompetence reigns, hardship, hunger, lack of social amenities, illiteracy, unemployment, check States with high insecurity rates perhaps your mind can fix the link as to why Anambra was rated safest State under Obi by IGP Baba.
He was incompetent yet He took Anambra's Education from like 13th to first position.
