NIGERIAN TRIBUNE The World Bank says inflation in food prices remains high globally. It made the declaration in its latest Food Security Update report issued on Wednesday. “Information from the latest month between December 2022 and March 2023 for which food price inflation data are available shows high inflation in almost all low and middle-income countries. “Inflation levels are greater than 5 per cent in 70.6 per cent of low-income countries and in 90.9 per cent of lower-middle-income countries. “Inflation rate is also above 5 per cent in 87 per cent of upper-middle-income countries some of which are experiencing double-digit inflation,’’ it stated. It stressed that about 84.2 per cent of high-income countries were experiencing high food price inflation. “The countries affected most are in Africa, North America, Latin America, South Asia, Europe, and Central Asia,’’ the World Bank noted. It quoted the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) as stating that the benchmark index of international food commodity prices declined for the 12th consecutive month in March 2023. “The FAO Food Price Index averaged 126.9 points in March 2023, a marginal 2.1 per cent decrease from February 2023 and a 20.5 per cent decrease from its peak in March 2022. “The index, which tracks monthly changes in international commodity prices, indicated that a combination of factors, including ample supplies, subdued import demand, and extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, contributed to the decrease,’’ the bank stated. It noted that in 2019 and before COVID-19, the FAO Food Price Index stood at 95.1 points. As part of its global response to food security crisis, the World Bank announced in April 2022 that it would provide up to 30 billion dollars over 15 months, including 12 billion dollars in new projects. The bank stated that the financing was to scale up short-term and long-term responses along four themes to boost food and nutrition security, reduce risks, and strengthen food systems. “This will be done by supporting producers and consumers, facilitating increased trade in food and trade inputs, supporting vulnerable households, and investing in sustainable food and nutrition security. “Between April and December 2022, the bank’s food and nutrition security commitments in new lending passed the 12 billion dollars mark with almost half of this for Africa, which is one of the regions hardest-hit by the food crisis. “Some examples include the 766-million-dollar West Africa Food Systems Resilience Programme which is working to increase preparedness against food insecurity and improve the resilience of food systems in West Africa. “The programme is increasing digital advisory services for agriculture and food crisis prevention and management. “It is also boosting adaption capacity of agriculture system actors, and investing in regional food market integration and trade to increase food security,’’ it stated. The World Bank added that an additional 345 million dollars is currently under preparation for Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. https://tribuneonlineng.com/food-price-inflation-remains-high-globally-world-bank/

On what basis would NANS have to close down a private company's offices. While the goal might be great, the steps they plan to take is very illegal. I am against all these illegal attacks by these so-called Unions and I am a strong proponent of Unions. ijustdey: |
Playing the vicitmhood continues...wait till he forms his cabinet. We know Ohanaeze is fully PDP/LP...they should stop disturbing us. What have they done for their people? Nothing...they give out titles for money. Nothing to show for it, and like we heard...travel to Enugu to do the do. Antimandatethie: |

and yet one politician ran to a man of God shouting YES DADDY. I guess that is excellent leadership. She responded well, because I have come to understand Nigerians understand one language...public embarrassment. Na so one tenant move into one of my Dad's apartment that was not assigned and sublet his own...even though his money was past due and late even on the apartment assigned to him. Lawyer was saying rubbish that we need a court order...the moment he was visited and publicly embarrassed, he paid and begged. Sadly we have gotten to that point in the society now where people act and chat stupidly. Sadly the same people will worship on Sunday or Friday or claim they want a New Nigeria superlanny: |
A man without goals will always find something to do with his money. 1. Set specific goals and determine how you plan to get there...savings you cant touch 2. Know that you need to build sources of revenue in order to continue to get what you want 3. Know that spending your seeds will make you useless not just broke 4. Keep in mind money only stays with someone or people that manage it well...its like a spirit 5. Look into family history to find out if you are under a curse that keeps you from prosperity 6. Look for cheaper alternatives...N300k in 4 months is crazy even for some people making money in dollars. 7. Find out why you have a low self esteem and feel the need to spend to feel manly. 8. Know that women will sleep with you even if you spend very little if they care for you. You have a short period of time. Soon, you wont be able to recover. Write it down...you have had several warnings. It is up to you to learn from them or be forever doomed into a dark destination. Aigbedion141: |

That is part of our problem...we don't read. Go and check the Fed Govt investment in Dangote...the tax scheme that allowed Dangote to work on Federal projects and so on. shiwex: |
N46 trillion passed to Tinubu plus 70% completion of AKK Gas Pipeline 95% Dangote Refinery 100% completion of Lekki Deep Seaport Multi-state crude oil discovery Diversification of the economy from the oil sector Science and Research - Seed technology Record funds to states to settle debts and pay salaries Payment of Govt staff during Covid-19 Technology and equipments for our Airforce, Navy and Army Ask the USA, the record level of debt is staggering...but guess what? They will increase the debt ceiling so they can borrow more, while at the same time, continue record spending for Ukraine. It is not debt that is the problem...it is what you are getting the debt for. In Western World, we take on debt for cars, housing, business expenses, schools and education...and even health needs - surgeries. If all the plans set in motion come to fruition, I believe Nigeria will take off like it never did before and we will never go back. Selling Gas to Europe, converting vehicles and tanks to use LNG (Innoson has started)...we will not only supply other African countries vehicles, but we can supply them Natural Gas ..clean fossil fuel. God bless the Fed Republic of Nigeria and God bless Africa. Antimandatethie: |

Technology is indeed a necessary evil. You just have to expose them to age appropriate information Tablets can be set to age-appropriate content, and only age-appropriate information will show up on their YouTube. You cannot teach them everything, so these would help them a lot to learn a lot. My daughter learned a lot by watching shows online. When I try to explain some things, she will just say that she already knows lol NetFlix can also have several accounts. I also do not suggest that kids should have parents' passwords and have access to adult content. There are so many things that these can expose them to. They can also download and communicate with people without your consent. If you cannot monitor your children and their access to content, it is CHILD NEGLECT and exposing them to contents inappropriate for them is BAD PARENTING. You might not pay for it now, but you might pay for it in multiples in due time. Joannebassey: |
I am not sure he deliberately built underneath. My guess is that someone told him it was OK...but it was so obvious these were mega powerlines in the Island, and that should have been obvious. So N20m unless it's a small 1/2 plot...then maybe N15m Olarewaju89: |

I have in the past, written comprehensively on how we can solve the Agbero issues in Nigeria. Let me be the first to say that there are no singular solutions, but we can ONLY put forward templates and ideas. - Where my ideas come from? In choosing tertiary institutions in the Western hemisphere, there are many things that students and parents consider. 1. Are you smart? If you are a super intelligent student, you consider certain schools because you have a high chance of getting in. If not, you pick other schools....we call them safe schools. Schools like you overqualify for, and you will almost definitely get admission 2. Cost - Some people get into Top schools and choose not to go there because the financial package was not the best. So not all students that got into Harvard attend Harvard. Some choose universities based on financial packages. 3. Amenities, Social Programs, Food, and so on - Surprisingly, people pick schools for many other reasons too...Football, Basketball programs, Food, Party school, Nice auditorium, Fraternity, Sorority, Proximity to home, and Legacy...My Dad went there, so I must. In Nigeria, students pick schools randomly in most cases...because we rarely visit them or look them up on websites, pick courses, take JAMB, and then figure out how to pay for them or figure out later if its the best fit. Let me say, we start everything backward. Solution - Cost of Tuition: Should be pegged to Inflation. As materials and cost of living go up, tuition costs should go up. This is typical in normal countries. An average Fed University should cost about N500k per year. Top courses like Engineering and Medicine should cost N750k or more for Tier 1 Universities like UI, OAU and UNN.. Tier 2 Universities can cost N100k less per annum, so students will have options to attend other universities based on costs. Engineering and Medicine will take 25% - 30% differential in their tuitions to buy equipment annually. Their lecturers should also get paid more. Basic Salary and you can call the extra stipend - Courses of National Importance LOL - Loans and Scholarships - About 10-20% of the tuition collected should be made available to students as Scholarships, so the very brightest of students can have the opportunity to attend high-tuition Tier 1 universities or continue their education if they are on track to finish with 1st class. Federal Loans or Bank loans backed by Federal Govt will be available to all students and tied to performance. If you are on track to drop out, you will lose your loans or will not get access to more loans. Your transcript cannot be retrieved unless loans are paid in FULL if you plan to travel abroad or further at the Grad Level. Students should, however be able to get their certificates. Exceptions can be made for students to travel overseas and pay, but I would not suggest that initially. Jobs should be encouraged to pay off student loans or factor that in salary negotiations. - Amenities, Food, Dorms - 20-25% of the funds from the new tuition should be used to build a Library, Internet services, Portable Water and Electricity, Dorms, Workers' accommodation (subsidized housing) and Amenities that can be rented to students and maintained by the school to earn more money. Students can also work at these dorms and amenities to subsidize their funding if they qualify for work-study which should be determined in Years 3 and more...not for years 1 and 2. The rest of the funds from the tuition should be for Salaries and salaries should be pegged to Inflation, so Tertiary instructors get paid great wages, and should never go on strive, because their wage increases are tied to inflation, so negotiations are not needed. If Inflation is above 5% annually, there should be a limit to the wages and tuition increases...and it should not exceed 5% annually. So you might have school tuition, for example, go from N200k up to N500k for History Course. 10 - 20% of tuition will go to scholarships - N50k - N100k 20 - 25% of tuition per student will go to Amenities like Books, Internet - N100k - N125k So the increase from N200k to N500k, about N150k - N225k will still go to scholarships and amenities, subsidized housing and so on for Staffs The extra of about N75k to N150k increase in tuition will go into Increase salaries, so lecturers can earn as much as N500k - N1m and less if they are living in Staff accommodation, which will be deducted from tuition. Based on their salary scale and length of services, they will have access to housing and car loans, further stimulating other parts of the Economy. For Medicine and Science/Engineering, they are paying N250k extra, 30% - 50% of these can be used to buy equipment for training to meet international standards by departments. Of course, some of the equipment will be worth more than N125k per student per year, but loans can be acquired from banks to equip or payment plans with the contractors supplying them, and these funds can then be paid over time. BIG Question - What if enrollment drops? Well Tertiary institutions will be under pressure to recruit students. If enrollment drop is not sustainable like in the Western World, the school might be bailed out if it serves special interests or closed down. Schools can also push for funding from NGOs, alumni and well-meaning Nigerians, but the goal is for them to be independent moving forward and for our standard of education to rise. Feel free to leave your comment, additions and contributions. We are all for a better Nigeria...and with this template...NLC, Student unions, and so on can all be on board. By MasterTeeUSA |
