The research continues
If you want to believe the bible go ahead and do so, researching into its true history will only lead you away from it. When you keep researching you will also discover that most of the books of the bible were written by unknown authors and not the names of the people who bear the authorship we are made to believe for example Moses did not write any of the first five books of the bible. The church ascribed the names to most of the books to give them credibility. When you continue with your research, you will discover that most of the books were written long after the events they recorded, and a lot of the events(like exodus and many others) are non historical other stories like the creation story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden are were copied from older civilizations. If you want to remain a Christian then you have to abandon your research, else with time you will become an atheist like others that conducted such research and found out the truth for themselves. . . .

Christianity Etc › Re: Bible Questions-1; Did The Bible Endorse Slavery? by mazaje(m): 8:11pm On Feb 10, 2011
If you want to know wether the bible endorses slavery, all you need to do is take the bible and READ it for yourself. . . .The bible was written back in the days when slavery was accepatable, in fact it was written by very primitive cultures that believe that a man has the right to sell his daughters into slavery. The bible VERY clearly endorses slavery in some parts of it. . . . .Here are some bible passages that very cleary endorse slavery. . . . .Forget all the lies and spin the apologist might add to what was written. . . .

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you.  You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land.  You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance.  You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46)

Here we have the bible talking about where to buy slaves, what to do with them and how they are to be held or transfered as property, injunctions were also given that Fellow Jews were never to be treated that way. . . .

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again.   But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her.  And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter.  If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife.  If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment.   (Exodus 21:7-11 )

Here is a verse that talks about how slaves are to be branded like animals. . . .

If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years.  Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom.  If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year.  But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him.  If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master.  But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children.  I would rather not go free.'  If he does this, his master must present him before God.  Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl.  After that, the slave will belong to his master forever.  (Exodus 21:2-6)

Slavery is still approved of in the NT as well. . . . .

Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5). . .

Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 )

I don't think there is any part of the bible that very clearly states that slavery is bad and people should not induldge in it. . . .Thou shall not enslave each other is no where to be found in the ten commandments of Yahweh. . . . .

Deep Sight:
I will not bother to argue with you on this: you go and do your own research - it is a fact up till today that hundreds of psychics are employed by Police Departments even in the United States. Hundreds of them have solved cases with startling clarity. The nature of psychic information however sometimes means that the correctness of the psychic is only discerned years later. Just go and watch Crime & Investigation Channel my friend: instances abound in shocking clarity. Now these are Police departments in a scientific and technically advanced part of the world. Kid yourself that the instances do not exist: they abound: just watch Crime & Investigation channel more often, you will be amazed. I wonder to what you attribute these phenomena.

Not to speak of such other things as telephathy, remote viewing and others.

The CIA, KGB, M16, etc ALL have psychic remote viewers in their employment as of today. Perhaps you know better than these intelligence agencies, lol. Don't kid yourself son.

It is amazing how the import of what i wrote has been lost on you. No worries.
Your claims are not entirely true, many psychic detectives have been studied and most have been found to be frauds. In many cases, most of the evidence in favor of the psychic detective is provided to the mass media by the psychic rather than by an independent source so it is not a clear cut issue as you are trying to suggest. . . .

Here is an interesting read about psychic detectives and the methods they use or are using.

simply because you dont experience things doesnt make them false. There are events people witness which the physical world cannot explain. I dont know which part of the world you are living in and how far you can go in your quest, but i wish you are in Nigeria and ready to explore more.

Let me gist you. Small.
When i was in secondary school in the north in the late 90's there is this news about a psycho with ability of solving numerical/word problem of any magnitude. So, as science student which lay emphasis on proves and possibility of events, i was in great doubt and went ahead to stake a chunk out of my pocket money.

I was looking forward to the next monday(market day), i was so curious, took out so many numerical problems from my general mathematics with their respective answers and had to skip class that faithful day. So, we went out and position our selves very close to arena. Then all of a sudden he came with his handler(cos he finds it difficult to even concerntrate on his on hence the  need for a  guide)

the only thing you do is to called his name and start reeling out questions. No matter how lenghty and complex those variables are, all he does is to repeat them after you and when you are done the next word from his mouth is your answer. After which you are required to make donation for his up keep. No any form of formal education and very poor background. Just translate your question to hausa language then you are done.

Look, it reach a point where state media house(T.V stattion) have to put him on live phone-in programme(verify that from BATV, Bauch State Television). So, many Phd holders and computer scientist where busy trying to disprove him to no avail. The dude was used by Inland Bank branch to solve many of thier account problem in era of Analog banking in Nigeria.

There is alot of archives for you mr hommer. If you want to meet him in person then be my guest i suggest.

^^

I was talking about context, OT context that is. . . . .You talked about a spirit not requiring burnt flesh for anything but the bible talks about Yahweh liking the smell of burnt offering. . . . . .If worship is the ultimate reason for all these, then why tell people that they rob you when they fail to offer things(tithes and offerings) unto you? At least that is what is written in some parts of the bible. . . . .Or is it only me that is seeing things differently? grin

I responded to your query - Time & Money (call it wealth/possessions or whatever) are likely the two most important things to us as humans.

Requiring regular rituals which took time and cost wealth ensued that the people had cause to as it were, invest in something they didn't see. Their treasure was with God.

On the God "side", what does a spirit require burnt flesh for? Food? Drink? We can readily strike these out and thus are left with the intangible - worship and eyes set on high i.e. towards God
Fair enough, this is the most logical explanation so far even though I disagree with some of your submissions. . . . . .

this God theory is still confusing to man.
The God hypothesis is not just confusing but a failed hypothesis, how can an omnipotent, omniscient or omni what ever being have or display emotions like anger, surprise, jealousy etc?. . . . .A God that knows the future for example can never by surprised by future out comes since he knows it already, but read the bible and you will see where the writers depict their God as being surprised by certain out come of events. . . .Its really mind bugling. . . . . .

God is big, God is huge
He is the greatest giver, he gave us the best gift which was his only son,Jesus
He gave us the life we live, the air we breath e.t.c

Now tell me someone that is the possessor of heaven and earth, how will you say He is in need and that is why we give?
How absurd!

We give for different reasons, we give out of love to both God and man
We give as we have being mandated to
We give to meet needs of people
We give to be blessed and so on
It is necessary we give for our own benefit and our future but it is by choice
'You can force the horse to the river but you cannot force him to drink of the river' as the saying goes
There is compulsion attached to it but its your choice to make
Cos its for your own good and not God's good
I just asked a simple question and it seems nobody here wants to touch it. . . .Why does a God that owns everything need animal sacrifice for example?. . . .Check the OT you will see where Yahweh send injunctions to the Jews with regards to how they should go about sacrificing animals unto him. I just want to know why that is?. . . .

@ mazaje >>> you talk that way because you did not apply yourself to the specifics of my post >>> note that, i listed questions to be answered >>> answer them instead of bemoaning dead threads

Let me repeat again, most if not all the questions you have put forth have been beaten to death on other threads. . . .It baffles me to no end that theist like you make this argument. Atheism does not purport to contain any moral code of conduct for proper living. . . . . . . .Why some of you attack it on that point makes no sense. It's tantamount to blaming mathematics for not providing any moral code to a mathematician who commits murder. Mathematics and atheism are not meant to be grounds for a moral foundation, so to claim that immorality is a result of atheism or that atheist are immoral is completely ludicrous.

The first giving is the giving of ourselves to the Lord - 2 Cor. 8:5

"They even did more than we hope for, for their actions was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.

God is not interested in your gifts or scarfices until He has you. We give of the "means" of what God has entrusted to us. Christian giving is a choice. We should give on our own accord as purposed in our heart.

2 Cor 8:3 told us about people who gave not only what they could afford, but far more. Doing it of their own freewill.

No be by force bros.
The part I highlighted s false. Read the OT again. . . .
Christianity Etc › Giving Unto God by mazaje(op): 7:17pm On Jan 21, 2011
Why do people give unto God? People claim that their God owns everything and needs nothing yet when you read the bible(OT especially) you will see Yahweh directing people to offer things unto him, things like human and animal sacrifice, farm produce etc and getting very upset if they refuse to obey his injunctions. Why does a God that is said to own everything and need nothing command people to give him things?. . . . .All this injunction from the bible God to give unto him sounds like the words of the needy rather than of the laudable self-sufficient one, no?. . . . .Why does a God that is alleged to own everything and in need of nothing need animal sacrifice for example?. . . .

This issue has been beaten to death on so many thread here before, the poster should have gone through previous threads before opening this one. . . . Morality is NOT objective it always comes as a result of experience or necessity and it is always evolving. . . . .Theist are NOT and can NEVER be more moral than atheist. Doing good because the act of doing good itself is good enough is MUCH better than doing good because you are afraid of punishment or expecting a reward. . . . .Morality does NOT come from religion.

The reason is because the Jews that wrote the genesis creation account were poly theist. . .Elohim means Gods. . .Forget about the BIG LIE Christians are telling you about father, the the son and the holy spirit. . .There is nothing like, the father, the son and the holy spirit in any part of the OT, Jew today do not believe in any part of the Christian claim of the father, son and holy spirit. . . . .The ancient Jews were NOT monotheist, monotheism gradually evolved into their religion.

I just can not understand what happened to him after the death of Yar'adua. I just can't understand some of the inanities am reading from him these days, It shocks me. . . .But any way Beaf carry on, nothing do you. . .
