I just thank God Dora has been very smart to be making all her noise based on ICT and Telecom. |
certainly Ribadu will be re-instated by the courts If the Presidency does it then I will see this as an attempt at exit strategy after a failed process. The use of OBJ's name to confuse members of the public is getting ridiculous. |
Nigerians have perfected the name dropping strategy You know people buy anything you say to them once you drop OBJ's name |
Kobojunkie:Kobo most school students go to school either within their neighbourhood or within areas they are familiar with and their security is gauranteed. Corps members are posted to areas they sometimes have never heard of. |
NYSC is not a skills aquisition programme, it is meant to improve National Unity and cohession. I personally served in Sokoto, we jumped from tree to tree, walked on ropes and all sorts of boys scout training at our one month camping. At the end I spent one year teaching Mathematics at a remote village in Sokoto. I can not say the time I spent in a village where people hardly heard any word of english or where people had religion or cultures totally different from mine did not teach me anything. And certainly what I made of my experiences will not be what everyone else made of theirs. But I came away with a clear conviction that the programme should at least be made optional or scraped totally for a smarter policy. Yes in a country where most final year students leave the University without a clear future, NYSC gives you that transition from student life to labour market. Where you test the world outside campus and decide for yourself what you might do. For a lot of Nigerians without Godfathers or connections in high places this proves very helpful, hence for this reason it may be a good idea to make the NYSC optional. But the primary purpose of the NYSC which is National Cohession has been defeated. A situation where the corps members themselves are a target of religous violence even make this fact more obvious. I have always questioned why we support an education system that teaches kids in primary schools that their religion is best and anyone who does not practice their religion either will not go to heaven or in some cases do not even deserve to live. Then when they are 21 we hope that a mere one year service will help them unlearn what they have learnt in the last 20years. I think both Christain religous knowledge and Islamic religous studies should be scraped from primary and secondary schools. Rather civics or Nigerian studies where patriotism and brotherly love is emphasized should be taught. (we have enough churches and mosques who teach religion during the weekend, we dont need them any further in our schools). Another reason why this strategy fails is how many of the populace even go to the University. will a programme targeted at kids who are 5 - 10 have a wider reach? or is National cohession only necessary for those who could afford a University degree ![]() If this programme is no longer serving its purpose why are those who dont see the sense in this programme still compelled to go through it? I think a review and redifinition of the programme is necessary. |
Folks what do you think? I agree with the guy |
Rep wants NYSC scheme scrapped Written by Emmanuel Aziken & James Egbon Friday, 02 January 2009 The deputy chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Labour, Rep. Chukwuma Umeoji has called for the scrapping of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) saying the programme has lost focus. Umeoji (Labour, Aguata, Anambra) in a statement made available to Vanguard lamented that one of the scheme’s cardinal objectives of national cohesion has also been overwhelmed by ethnic and religious bigotry. He said that scrapping the programme would save the country the estimated N40 billion expended on the scheme which he said was now being poured down the drain. His comment came against the background of the recent sectarian crisis in Jos, Plateau State that led to the death of three Corps members. “Today, corpers are killed by people who are supposed to protect them. Employers reject corpers posted to their establishment. The worst situation is that government establishments are the worst culprits in the rejection of corpers.” Noting the loss to some families as a result of the national service, he said, “Today some families are in pain for losing loved ones to demonstrations of hatred in the Nigerian state.” Observing the bureaucracy that has recently beleaguered the scheme, he said, “Most Nigerian graduates waste up to three years to get a chance to serve. The number of years wasted to get a chance to serve could not be utilized because of the demand for discharge certificates before employment.’’ Noting that the amount expended on the scheme could be used for better purposes, he said, “The government should, as a matter of urgent national importance, scrap the programme and save the tax payers’ money. Out of N40 billion allocated to the Ministry of Youth Development over 70% will be spent on NYSC related matters. From all indications the programme has not achieved the des http://nigeriamasterweb.com/paperfrmes.html |
I honestly believe it is more in our interest that Ghana succeeds I still don't think there is anything wrong with what has gone on in Ghana. The Electoral Commission is only being patient to make sure they get it right. |
Accusation of voter fraud is not enough to diminish the success in Ghana. I am jealous!!! Even in US, Republicans accused Democrats of using ACORN to register ficticous names to vote. While Democrats accused Republicans of attempted Voter supression. In Britain Labour has been accused of voting fraud in Birmingham in recent times. So its not new. On the Nigerian side, elections can only be free and fair if we change our attitude. Putting the blame squarely on Iwu is just an over simplification of the matter. It is a shame on every Nigerian that we can't vote. |
Fake drug importers were simply unable to distort the facts. They have no political clout nor allies in Govt. They dont even own any section of the media. at least 80% of Nigerian media belongs to ex-Governors and their allies and they used it effectively to control public opinnion. That is why Ribadu's fight against corruption was selective and Dora's was not. Chidicris do you honestly want to suggest that there are no more fake drug importers in Nigeria, or were the importers of "my pikin" ghosts? Will it make any sense to suggest that because somebody somewhere could import "my pikin" Dora has been selective all this while? We need to put pressure on NUJ to set up their media ombudsman fast. The ombudsman should also have the power to correct distorted news aimed at confusing members of the public. |
Sometimes its not easy to figure out what these Hamas leaders think? You launch katusha rockets into people's town and because you kill one person you hope that the other side owe you a responsibility to also launch Katusha rockets in other to kill not more than one person. Wars and agression are no child's play and people fight them with what they got. Hamas is being confused by tough talk by President Ahmedinajad, there is not a lot he can do. And all this media propaganda after attacking Isreal by Hamas is just funny. Ehud Barak will surely not buy any of that, unfortunately I will like to see this war continue for a couple of days. It might just be the needed recipe for peace as people of Gaza may begin to appreciate the concilatory tone of President Mahmud Abbas. |
GettysBurg:leave that talk my brother do you know Igbinedion's campaign message in 2003 ![]() He told Edo people that if your child fails in class he repeats the class. So he should be voted in again as Governor so that he will repeat the class. This is the sort of talk clueless people always talk. If Yar'adua is truly honest he will resign, he is not even strong enough to lead |
I have not seen the slightest proof that Yar'adua is a better person than all our past leaders I don't know the source or reason for that propaganda. He can't even tell the Nigerian people simple truth on anything!!! You don't need leadership skills to tell the truth. The man is not even honest to himself let alone Nigerians. |
'No arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is as formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. - Ronald ReaganIbori and co will be defeated in the long run and the voice of reason will certainly prevail. All we need is for the Nigerian people to hope and work for their aspirations for a better tomorrow. |
not sure why Seen does not consider it an obligation to take down threads like these. |
I still dont understand why Nigerian news organisations think its necessary to report what Festus Keyamu say ? |
Proudly9ja PSC is just posturing, everything they have as their bases of accusing Ribadu of insurbodination is intertwined with the court case. How will he dress like a police officer since he did not know his rank? AIG or DCP? How will he report to work in a rank he did not agree with? The PSC is trying to buy legitimacy through the back door by suggesting he did not get any court injunction stopping his posting. Court advised everybody to stay action and that includes relating to Ribadu as a DCP or inviting him to the IG office for questioning on any police matter. I think right now we should ignore the Ribadu affair and begin to ask how Ibori is able to teleguide the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Is he blackmailing the President or has he cast some spells on him. How is he able to secure his loyalty beyond immagination? If we don't begin to look for answers to this question and Isolate Ibori as soon as possible we are in trouble. 2011 is very far and there is no reason to believe that at the rate we are going the winner of 2011 elections will not be declared in Ibori's parlour. |
People should stop miscontruing this Employer - Employee relation Mike Okiro or the PSC are nobody's employers. The real employers of the Nigerian Police Force are the Nigerian people because they are funded by tax payers money or National revenue. We only have Okiro holding forth for us as leaders and if a member of the force disagrees with the Okiro he goes to the court of law which is the final arbitar chosen by all Nigerian people to resolves our differences. Okiro and PSC simply disregarded court process, in a descent society if and when the court determines that Ribadu should not have been demoted or sacked, I hope that Mike Okiro and Parry Osayande are able to come to the conclusion that they have put political choice over laid down rules and are unable to continue in their seperate offices. (Anyway nobody resigns in Nigeria . . . .they wont have the decency to do that.) By the way talking about why Ribadu did not report to work. The man was assigned to work as a DCP, he is challenging that rank in the court and someone is suggesting he should pre-empt court process and accept the posting. Meanwhile Ribadu is not the first to take the force to court Nigeria: Supreme Court Reinstates Dismissed Army OfficerEven Mike Okiro is on record to have been promoted from CP to DIG without being first appointed AIG. It is also on record that the President on assuming power ordered that Former IG Ehindero hand over to most senior officer only to change within 24hrs to skip the most senior officer and hand IGP to Mike Okiro. So no need for misinformation guys Our fathers may have failed us, but I think we still owe our children a duty not to fail them. All this propaganda and endorsing a situation where the whole mechanism of Government is hijacked by a man of questionable character wont lead us anywhere. |
I honestly was wishing Ribadu gets sacked so as to stoke up the necessary emotions and see if Nigerians can be energised for once. But guys for the records, in a Presidential system of Government, most of the actions of the President is law. If the PSC was not in existence when Ribadu was promoted, the mechanism for promotion becomes recomendation by the IG and subsequent implementation by the President after which the act becomes law. Ribadu's promotion was sanctioned by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. If the PSC or anybody is angry Ribadu was promoted by executive order, it will require an executive order for Ribadu to be demoted. otherwise he has to commit an offence to be demoted. I am waiting for the court verdict to suggest that the PSC has the power to undo the actions of the President. If we live in a country where the "rule of law" works. This is meant to be contempt for court process because the court is yet to rule on this matter. Parry Osayande is meant to be committed to prison. But in the mean time I wish Mike Okiro goodluck!!! All men of goodwill will always love the man Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. |
The problem with Waziri is that she does not investigate anything. As soon as a petition lands on the table she starts haunting the accused to come for questioning. She must be thinking she is doing some kind of marriage counselling. Not everyone has all that time. Like someone said, she should do her homework and charge El-Rufai to court. If El-Rufai is convicted in absentia in a court of law, the British will not give El-Rufai anymore VISA when his VISA runs out. lets wait and see where all this drama will lead us all to. For the facts check out http://saharareporters.com/Elrufai_v_EFCC.php |
~Lady~:are u serious so the efcc is getting traction from someone with this school boy spin.igbinedion was charged to court under ribadu with 191 charges of corruption. efcc under waziri reviewed it to 1 count charge of refussal to declare asset and then negotiated a plea bargain with the man only to turn arround to say "we are appealing". Ask yourself a few questions Is it possible for the Judge and the accused to negotiate a plea bargain without the consent of the plaintiff ![]() Is it rationale to hope that a man accused of theft and a man accused of not declaring their asset will get the same punishment ![]() How did Igbinedion know what his options where and why was he able to produce the required N3.5 million naira within minutes if he does not have first hand knowledge of what the Judgement will be ![]() It is one thing for Waziri to choose to be silly and cynical, it is totally another to allow ourselves to be fooled. Yar'adua will go down in history as a President who did nothing while the office of the Chief law officer and the EFCC chair were used to openly defend corruption. |
Does anyone know whether its possible to arrange a plea bargain between the Judge and the accused without the consent of the plaintiff. Because I still don't understand why Femi Babafemi is protesting the Judgement and suggesting that the EFCC plans to appeal. Its even funnier that they are doing this after they reduced Igbinedion's charges to mere refusal to declare his account. |
Debosky There is no way to know whether Samsudeen was competent as deputy CBN Governor. Well congrats to him he was part of the success at CBN, but you and I know how easy it is not to have an effect on anything when you are number 2. He was always disagreeing with his successful boss at CBN so to conclude that he was competent because CBN recorded successes may not be totally correct. There is no way to measure a man's ability than when you are the boss and actually in charge of something. As Finance Minister he failed, he prefered playing politics than practicing economics. Lets see what he does as planning minister. I hope he has learnt his lesson. Where is Sanusi Daggash by the way ![]() |
shamsudeen competent ![]() Guess he was sent to planning to repeat his success at Finance . . . . .lol |
the guy is too cynical no solution to anything, just criticism |
reality4us:Sorry if her idea of her primary assignment is this Government's image . . . . then I am sorry. This is akin to putting lipstick on a pig. Its still a pig. |
Well if she accepts it, lets see what happens I will check the details of the job description for information minister Its possible she will concentrate on managing our ICT and how it affects Government activities, rather than being the mouthpiece of the Presidency. I beleive the President already have a spokesman and press secretary. |
I pity for Dora Akunyili, I thought they were going to make her health minister. Telling Yar'adua's lies is the most difficult job on earth. Her reputation will either be destroyed very soon or she will have to resign when she gets fed up saying things she does not believe in. |

Sky Blue:Its nice to know that the attorney general is becoming really desperate. How petty can he be. Membership of this organisation is credited to the Nigerian state and not Aondoakaa's person. So Nigeria's office of AGF was elected not Mike Aondoakaa. If we change Aondoakaa as AGF tomorrow, I dont think we will loose that seat. My sense is that the new AGF will assume that seat by default. So this election is in no way a measure of the character of the man Mike Aondoakaa. Even to suggest that it is a measure of the last 18months as the AGF wants to spin it into is an over simplification. The AGF is getting desperate for recognition. |
If Mike Aondoakaa is still AGF then . . . . it is simply putting "lipstick on a pig" |
dont worry he will soon shut up anyone heard from segun adeniyi lately ![]() he has realised how out of touch his bosses are |
