Kai, the level of bigotry and ignorance in this thread and NL in general is mind blowing. To those who question the true origin/rationale behind the Arabic inscription on our currency and military insignia and prefer to propagate false conspiracy theory of its supposed Islamic connection (hot angel and co), pls refer to this link for an article by Dr. Nowa Omoigui, a Christian from Edo State, I believe. http://www.gamji.com/nowa/nowa104.htm Its all there, he explained IT all. And for those who can't be bothered to read: The notion was entirely a British one (Lord Lugard, also a Christian) in colonial days (when no Muslim could have influenced such decision), see picture of the West African Pound. The reason: "Arabic (was) the only written "indigenous" language anywhere in Nigeria/West Africa, particularly among the widely spread Hausa trader class across the region." - (Wow! )In short, anybody with a quarrel on this issue should please take it up with Lord Lugard. Well, as for the alleged Islamic connection with the Nigerian flag, the logic is as ridiculous as that of a man who saw a cow and noted that it had 4 legs then on sighting a dog he reasoned, ah! it has 4 legs, then it must be a COW!!!. RIDICULOUS, JUST PLAIN STuuuUUUPIIID |
And you say Aboki no go school. Can you now STFU!!! ![]() |
excanny:Silly idio.t still in denial, your schooling was obviously a waste of your parents money! Behold the picture of nigerian pound taken in 1967
|
^^^^^ Look at you, rushing to conclusion without even thinking Pls read my post again and show me where I mentioned NAIRA or referred to any issue in the 70's let alone 1973. ![]() It is evident you are lacking in basic comprehension; yet your type are the ones quick to chant aboki no go school; yes you may have gone to school but clearly schooling does not seem to have gone through you. ![]() Back to my post, I clearly stated it began at the time of independence (FYI, many yrs b4 Naira). I could have also added that it was one of the conditions demanded by the North and agreed to by the other regions towards the act of independence itself - and the inscriptions have remained a tradition till today. I put it to you sir, that if anybody was lying, that it was you who was trying rewrite history. ![]() |
PhysicsRND:Sorry to disappoint, infact this dog is quite well trained and knows exactly when to bark and when to bite - its a matter of timing. Have already made my point, no need repeating; besides Jenifa is also doing a good job corroborating and upholding those views - is that too difficult for you to comprehend? ![]() |
^^^^^ Right again! Lady, I do admire your patience and tenacity, unfortunately you are dealing with guys in real denial. Sadly, they will never see your point because their bigoted minds are like concrete - ALL MIXED UP AND PERMANENTLY SET. Its useless, they will never accept the facts before them but will be trying to rewrite history. PhysicsMHD:Yep, sure you are entitled to your opinion. |
^^^^^ You are welcomed my brother ![]() |
I would have responded to earlier posts of rebuttals by PysicsHD et al but it seems Jenifa's penultimate post would for now suffice the need for any further response ![]() |
Also let's keep in mind that Hausa states don't have important mineral or natural resources. By important, I mean resources that are important to western world. ie cocoa, palm oil and now petroleum oil. So there wasn't much incentive to develop those states. like the southern nigeria when it was under colonial rule. although colonial govt did use the north as the seat of power because of their relatively organized structure (compared to yorubas and certainly compared to igbos lol) and also probably for health/climate reasons too maybe. ex. malaria and other reasons although this is a less significant part of it. but that doesn't mean that they invested in the region financially.
Yep, damn right; the British met a well established system of governance and therefore found no reason to tinker with it; hence they left it relatively intact and chose to rule Northern Nigeria by indirect rule. All this meant was that northerners were in fact more civilized and advanced as a civil society than their counterparts and this lineage could have given them the edge as they are (till today) more politically astute and matured - how else could they have been able to rule for so long ![]() |
Nothing new or strange, the writings have been on our currency since independence and merely represent the value of that currency in Arabic - nothing more nothing less - and I am sure you would agree that this simple act has not Islamized the country since then. If only you could look beyond your irrational bias and did a quick research, you would have found that it was introduced at the time of independence to assist majority of literate northerners who could only read Arabic and not English, to be able to decipher the value of the newly independent Nigerian currency; and had remained a tradition till today. By your way of thinking, Muslims could equally turn around and reject the alpha numeric characters of English, since the English are predominantly Christians. Should that happen, wouldn't you be among the first to regard such position as extremist and intolerant ? Now, can you honestly look into the mirror and tell us you are not acting exactly just the same ![]() |
^^^^^ Quite on the contrary, northerners are not that greedy so I am sure the Kanuris would be willing to share. On the other hand I can easily imagine how your greedy lot would start scheming and squabbling among yourselves for greater than your own fair share till you break up from national to village level and beyond - it won't surprise me one bit, cos thats what you could expect from those that can eat their own cannibalistic kind ![]() |
fstranger3:Yeah, thanks Though I am increasingly concerned that the more I keep it up the more I could easily slide down towards to their own level to being a tribal bigot - bereft of genuine objectivity and respect for others. Its quite unfortunate that one is often forced into responding to their provocation - so sad ![]() |
udezue:Oh no!!! they shouldn't start exploring for anything, at least not yet. In fact they should wait until we finish all the oil in the south (under One Nigeria) after which we can then agree to partition, so that the new state of Arewa Republic can keep and enjoy its own oil all by itself. Now, wouldn't that be a lovely way to beat some greedy fools at their own game? Nice wouldn't it ![]() |
^^^^ LOL, ODECHUKWU, PHD with no IQ just too funny, but seriously ol boy this your theory get as e be. ooO ![]() |
ikeyman00:LOL, vampires indeed. Honestly I tried but couldn't find them, though I am told they have been kidnapped (an increasingly favorite pastime in the south Just STHFU, silly CANNIBAL ![]() |
akyus:I absolutely concur with your reasoning and I am quite willing to work towards that end; but when deliberate malicious isults are thrown, I will equally be obliged to retaliate with alacrity and similar itensity. For now, I am all for peace and respect. Cheers ![]() |
afam4eva:Pls don't make excuses for abject IGNORANCE, the man was obviously ignorant and not confused about the two: Hausa is a tribe/people, while the North is a region - simple. It beats me how he could make such error, its in fact the equivalent of me referring to Yoruba meaning south - as if the region only holds the one tribe without others like Ibo, Beni, ifik, Ijaw, Calabar etc. I am sure if I should make that mistake you would be first to criticize and call me names - but then again, he si your brother, its not hard to guess why you are covering for him. ![]() udezue:And you sir, are from the son and daughter of CANNIBALS, animals of the worst kind, in fact CANNIBALISM IS IN YOUR DNA - that's why your reasoning is naturally that way ![]() |
Basseti:Sorry, didn't throw away anything. Last time I checked, you categorically asserted that Kano people wouldn't vote for a southerner which clearly was not true. The least you can do is to show some honesty and admit that you wrong - no big deal, end of story, after all nobody is above mistake. But no not you, so its now not voting across religious lines - talk of shifting the goal post or is it selective memory - I guess, its an art passed down from GEJ, abi. And to think that your whole perspective and judgment about a significant part of the country and people is based solely on a few editorials from Nigerian newspapers is by itself quite laughable as it is ridiculous. FYI, Kano ppl are probably the most politically radical and sophisticated electorates in the country. If you would care to check their history, you would find that they hardly ever vote for the ruling party (they are always with the opposition) whether led by a Christian, Muslim, southerner or northerner - it simply doesn't matter to them - hell, the present state governor is not even a Kano State indigene. As for northerners in general, I think they are also more politically accommodating (though it wouldn't surprise me if you disagree). I cite again the Abiola case and more recently Obasanjo, who was plucked out of prison and placed into Aso Rock by guess who (northerners -and not his own ppl who initially disowned him) - only for him to turn round and bite the hand that fed him - shocking, don't you think? ![]() |
Isn't it interesting to note that majority of the states that the Poster claimed to have traveled are in fact not even Hausa states ![]() @ Poster, well let me play along and also be a little mischievous in answering your question by saying: When Hausa people were busy toiling away in their farm lands, your brothers and sister in the south (where you come from) were equally busy advancing their skills and perfecting the art of armed robbery, fake drugs & drug pushing, 419, forgery, exam malpractice, etc; hence that's why Hausa people still remain backwards and how your own people have advanced us to where we are today. I guess that should satisfy your curiosity. Oh yeah, don't let me stop you from giving yourself a pat on the back - if that would make you feel happy in your obviously foolish misplaced sense of superiority. ![]() |
Basseti:How could you say that Didn't they vote for MK Abiola (a southerner) against their own son (Bashir Tofa) in the 1993 presidential race Where were you then? Out of the country or too young to have been born?Either way, please, don't allow your bias cloud your judgment, its so disgusting ![]() |
rokiatu:Kai! not again, this olodo girl and her mumuness. Please tell me, what was it that you could not understand? Was it the fact that you wrongly concluded that I said something which I didn't in my last post, for which you went on to insult me without provocation; or the fact that you still can't understand that I had already mentioned that people would always be judged according to their actions (whether Christian or Muslim). If I were you, I'd go back to school and ask for a refund because obviously your teachers must have failed you woefully when it comes to comprehension - otherwise I would say you definitely missed all your classes. Please refer again to my post, I dare you to pin point a single statement of prejudice, if you can find any - rather, I would suggest that you are the one who is prejudiced (judging from your unprovoked outburst - though it not hard to see where its coming from). And as for the right of judgement, well the last time I checked, you came to a public forum and volunteered a public statement to which everybody is free to respond to - need I say more? Such dumbness, truly amazing! Shegiya Jaka! |
rokiatu:Please check my post again and kindly show me where I said or even suggested that you married one - and by the way, where did I insult you to warrant such vitriol? Its a matter of basic comprehension, which obviously you do not have, yet you have the audacity to call somebody names that only seem to apply to you most - so pls tell me, who is the idio*t, numskull, olodo between us ? ![]() Anyway, its not entirely all your fault; yes having seen your profile (picture) once before its not hard to imagine why life sucks for an ugly fat girl like you; but then again why should I have to bear the brunt of your frustration; after all shouldn't you be taking your case to God , who made you so. ![]() Shegiya yar iska , abeg better respect yourself, don't try that nonsense again, I am not your mate. ![]() |
I am a Muslim from the core north and would agree that the Poster's observation is generally true - though for every rule there are inevitable exceptions, examples of which we have already have seen from earlier posts, so no need to repeat them all over again. However, the basic explanation for this, rests with the fact that it is forbidden for Muslim women to marry non - Muslims; while it is permissible for the men to do so (with strict conditions). Since Muslim girls aspire towards marriage, it therefore should stand to reason that majority of them would not want to waste their time engaging in a relationship that is already doomed right from the very beginning. @Rokiatu, I am sorry to disagree, ppl would always be judged according to their actions. If you flout the values of your religion (Christian or Muslim) you would definitely be seen as not a true believer; and in your case I would be inclined to have to see you as such. ![]() |
Dyt:Sorry, if you believe that then you are out of step with the values of your religion, because you should know that it is forbidden for a Muslim woman to marry out of her religion; though it is permissible for Muslim men to marry non-Muslim women, on condition that such woman is from the people of the book (i.e Christians, Jews, etc) and that she must be chaste. You may also wish to note that the fundamental principles of Islam do not and should not change or be influence with time. Basically, a sin committed a thousand years ago is still an act of sin if committed today irrespective of whether it is 21st Century or not - it is not a fashion please. ![]() |
Sarah a:Sorry about what happened to your sister. Please, please I can assure you that that belief system of ritual juju/killing and practice is ABSOLUTELY UN-ISLAMIC. Mind you, I am not saying that there are no Muslims who cross over into this boundary of wrongdoing; neither should that mean that the membership of an individual (whether Christian or Muslim) should automatically mean that such action is acceptable by his religion. My suspicion is that your sister's ex husband was probably self or culturally driven (as in tribal custom) rather than by the culture of Islam - because, I repeat, it was un- Islamic. |
MzDarkSkin:All the information necessary to arrived at the conclusion that the woman was selfish were contained in the initial post, one only need to read in between the lines (now in bold). Nothing secret about the account, as already husband knew and gave the initial OK, because he could afford it at the time along with her extravagant life style, until the economy changed and he no longer could; which under subsequent circumstances wife would not even allow him borrow from (as she continued to keep it exclusively to herself); hence husband's conclusion at the divorce court that she was selfish - which I totally agree. |
Dyt:I am sorry, Stuff4me is correct, if you (and your parents) are genuine Muslim(s) then you should have known better than do that; because its forbidden in Islam for a Muslim girl/woman to date/marry anybody outside the religion, in the same manner as pork, alcohol etc are equally forbidden. However, it is not forbidden for a Muslim man to marry from the people of the book, e.g. Christian (they have the bible), Jews ( they have the Torah) etc - and even then, the girl he wish to marry must be chaste. @ D sense, yes no biggie in Islam for you to be dating your Christian GF (except if you are fornicating); but please do not in ignorance support/endorse/ encourage or mislead a Muslim sister into wrongdoing. @Dyte, I sincerely hope that you would re - evaluate your values and not be a Muslim only in name but also in action. Be careful, some modern liberal values are fundamentally wrong (cool as they may seem) - be wise, take a leaf from the advice of another poster (amefi) to his Christian brethren. @Poster, its not advisable or practical, please find yourself a nice Christian girl, good luck. |
Em, em, girl was staring ![]() |
Very selfish woman (even if husband initially agreed to the second exclusive account) what happened to the fundamental agreement in marriage i.e. for better for worse, as in now that the man is financially down. Abeg, this is simply a parasitic relationship not based on partnership where the woman is clearly taking advantage of a foolish husband. The black widow spider, known for devouring her mate during love making, comes to mind - trust a woman to want to have her cake and eat it. ![]() |
annawhite:Silly woman! Didn't I tell you to wash your mouth ![]() |
annawhite:annawhite , oh annawhite; why is it whenever you open your mouth, ignorance just seems to flow out. ![]() Just in case you have been poked severally and long enough till you literally look like a swiss cheese, doesn't mean everybody should be like you - seemingly accepting and wearing the badge of fornication with pride - as in the disillusionment of following western civilized behavior. Hausa Muslim culture eschew fornication (I believe, so does Christianity), though admittedly some of our girls are increasingly being influenced in this wanton way; but by and large Hausa people are conservative in nature, hence understandably protective of their religion and honour of their women - as can be seen even from the responses in this thread. If you want to live peacefully with a Hausa man, please stay away from his religion and women; we can forgive and forget transgressions easily but not in these two areas; honour for these is highly valued in my culture. ![]() annawhite, you'll be well advised to wash your mouth with strong detergent next time you wish to comment on my people or religion - otherwise be ready to taste my cyber tribal cane. ![]()
and how many parents go gree that one for southerner.
Correct, it is less likely to happen especially if the guy is not a Muslim because in Islam Muslim girls are forbidden to marry non-Muslims; while the men may marry outside Islam only from people of the book e.g. Christians, guided by the bible, Jews, guided by the Torah etc - and even in such case, only if the girl is chaste, not loose (like annawhite & her ilk). |
