@ Poster: Thank you for this eye opening thread, which no doubt will go a long way towards removing some of the stereotyping and misconception with regards to the complexity behind this relatively new insurgent group, especially as often misunderstood by our southern brothers. The fact that their membership also draws from some of the elites (doctors, engineers etc) does adduce to your observation that the name Boko Haram (i.e. western education is sinful) is indeed over blown and that the group are far from being a bunch of misguided illiterates but quite sophisticated than they are given credit for, as can be judged from their deadly modus operadi. My biggest regret is the association of their name and identity with the religion of Islam; because any true Muslim would tell you that their actions does not represent Islam. ![]() koruji:Sorry to disagree, the killing and kidnapping of innocent civilians does not and can never represent a legitimate cause for protest - for whatever reason; besides how does targeting and killing of people constitute an accetable form of protest. ![]() |
davidylan:French secularism is based on the concept of laicite, basically the separation of the church (i.e. religion) from the state, which strives to guarantee the individual French citizen's freedom from any form of compulsion by religion. It does not however, interfere with the individual's freedom of conscience or right to religious affiliation or expression - as in the case with this new law preventing Muslims from praying outdoors. BTW, the restrictions you mentioned (in bold) applies only in government owned schools (because they are owned by the government, in line with the principle of laicite) but not in general public places e.g. streets, airports - where Muslim women are especially targeted. As for Muslims expecting human rights, well first of all they are humans aren't they? Secondly, if you had bothered to read my post correctly, I am sure even a bigot like you wouldn't have missed the irony - and the same goes for you too emmatok ![]() |
So sad, France on the one hand claiming to be civilized and upholder of human rights; yet on the other hand, clearly passing discriminatory laws systematically targeting Muslims. First, it was girls wearing scarfs to school, then bourka and now praying outdoors; while allowing Christian nuns and rev fathers to wear their habits/ cossacks, Jews to wear their skull caps, Hindu Sikhs to wear their turbans - and yet they preach tolerance - what hypocrisy! BTW, the issues in France is not about the Muslims blocking the streets (as in many cases in Nigeria, which I don't support) but about not liking the sight of Muslims in peaceful prayer - which makes me wonder, what if the young among them were consequently pushed towards radicalism and would one day react violently out of frustration and a sense of alienation as a result of these discriminatory laws; I bet then that the real cause would be conveniently forgotten and the Islamaphobes would be having a field day, SMH ![]() |
Princek12:Please show me where I condoned or justified the violence in any of my posts. However, I do recall having considered offering an apology to NLders for the action of my people, but thought otherwise because I deemed majority of the respondents unreasonable considering the level of insults and bigotry displayed. You continue to 'fall my hand'. Just after referring to the various definition of illiteracy, as you rightly pointed out, you still retrogressed back against your definition (no2) by still maintaining that those Almajiris had no education - as to say Islam/Quaranic education is not a form of education in its own right. Are you by any chance suggesting that those boys are not taught how to read and write, and because they are taught in Arabic, hence they are illiterate? You even went on to confirm that assumption by suggesting that anybody in Nigeria that cannot communicate in English should be considered illiterate. Well, holy Moses! just how daft can you be? So a French man in Nigeria who cannot read or write in English, though literate in his or other language, by your definition should be considered illiterate. You seem to confuse English as language and education as a formal process of acquiring Knowledge; while assuming Western education is the only existing form of education. My friend, you strike me as someone who is educated but seemingly incapable of mental dexterity and logical reasoning; in fact somebody good at memorising and used to solving problems from memorised formulae, but easily unstuck should the same problem reappear in a slightly different form because of a rigid mindset - for goodness sake, please get a grip. I concede to you that those Almajiris and a significant number of my people do not have Western education but they are by no means a bunch of illiterates. In fact when your forefathers were still in the jungle unable read or write mine could, in Arabic/Hausa transliteration using Arabic symbols (the first written indigenous language in Nigeria/West Africa) - the main reason for Arabic writing in our currency and military insignia (http://www.gamji.com/nowa/nowa104.htm) BTW, name any among the past Northern leaders who according to above definitions could be deemed illiterate. Yes, Nigeria's problem is a simplistic one (tell me why it has to be complicated); you mentioned power and infrastructure, I say to you remove corruption and we will have all of that and more - how else has money earmarked for them found its way into personal bank accounts and lining pockets? You mentioned Sharia, so how has Sharia deprived you of your fundamental human rights? Last time I checked, I believe the Nigerian constitution guarantees every citizen freedom of religion. Muslims are guided by Islamic law of which Sharia is a fundamental part of their belief system as defined by their religion. Are you therefore suggesting that Muslims in Nigeria should be deprived of their right to fully practice their religion, simply because you disapprove and because it is not your faith? In other words, Muslims should be suppressed; well hell no, thank you sir - not even Jonathan can take that right away. |
obxddon:Well thanks to people like you and your unguarded utterances, I just heard that fighting has re-erupted. I suppose you are happy that it has now taken an ethnic dimension from its original cause - that's what you want and you have now got it, so let us just kill ourselves. ![]() |
^^^^^ ![]() |
@seyigiggle As for your insult, I have only one thing to say to you; your type is the one languishing in jail in the diaspora, having swallowed 500g of cocaine or strapped same on his child and got caught - all for the love of money, while giving Nigeria a bad name - and you are not even ashamed to come here to and open you yeye mouth As for the nonsense you wrote above, I am not even going to bother to reply until you go back to school and learn how construct balanced arguments - I would like to assume that the numerous AK47 you spilled above are in fact typos; but for somebody like you, I am sure I must be wrong. ![]() freegaza:Amin, nagode ![]() |
obxddon: YOU ARE VERY IRRESPONSIBLE! Did you know that what you just did is against the law and can be termed as incitement to cause public unrest, and similarly be charge as an accessory to murder should anyone be killed as a result of your actions? I hope the moderators will take note ![]() |
sledge406:Please try to revise what you write before posting and save yourself the embarrassment of ridiculing. For an alleged educated man you truly managed to prove your lack of intelligence and therefore grasp of the issue at hand. My friend we are talking about the Kano riots and you are talking about houses belonging to Turai, Atiku, IBB, El Rufai and co; do these people live in Kano or is the thread not dedicated only to the riots in Kano? If in doubt, please check the heading; its a small issue of comprehension which unfortunately your so called education failed to transfer to you. If you have evidence of looting and targeting of any set of people (other than by the random possibility expected in riotous situation) please provide it. I maintain again that the rioting was a spontaneous expression of perceive rigging by the PDP and rejection of the inflated result figures (not necessarily of the final outcome that Jonathan won). The rioting was therefore purely political and NOT motivated by tribe or religion. As for the issue of corruption, I am surprised at your implied acceptance of it (perhaps it is OK as long as it is by PDP/Jonathan, abi); surely shouldn't fighting of this evil be among your civic duty as a responsible citizen? PDP and our past leaders (irrespective of tribe and religion) have brought us nothing but hunger in the mist of plenty, and how long do you suggest people should continue to tolerate it. Please answer educatedly. Anyway, the people of Kano have spoken (though not in the correct manner) and their message is quite clear. edoyad:No problem, at least we will still be together in the same nation sharing the same hunger and poverty like the Malians. You like? ![]() |
calaway:It surprises me how myopic and shallow you are in both vision and thought. All that you have put up above were examples of killings. Please tell me what tribe or race of humanity or religion is not noted for murder of human beings? The difference with the killings in the North is that it mostly violent; but whether violent or otherwise, isn't the consequence (death) always the same? Yes, our people are guilty of killing for God as you put it; but isn't that (even though weird and morbid) more honourable than the killing just for ordinary money and worldly gain? As for violent deaths, I don't see Southerners as an exemption: take armed robbery and kidnapping (one of your favourite pastimes), oh yeah the victims are humanely killed by lethal injection, abi; or are they not also innocent human beings? As for killing of day old babies, I can equally upload to you video evidence of Christian infanticide against Muslims in Kuru Janta - by the way is killing of twins not infanticide? As for the magnitude of death perpetrated by Northerners vs Southerners (one example alone); just open your eyes to the silent killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent Nigerians every year through the criminal act of FAKE MEDICINAL DRUGS, compared to the much publicised violent murders in the North. Of course we all know where these fake drug pushers come from; if in doubt just ask Dora, former NAFDAC chairman, to tell you how she lost her own sister through this nefarious act. Yes, my people are guilty of violent murders as you mentioned, I hope you would not forget to accredit us also with RITUAL KILLINGS and even CANNIBALISM, since this is also a Hausa and Islamic tendency. As for religion, please refer to your bible and in particular the old testament to the many references to violent acts, conduct and consequences, then come back and tell me that Christianity is really all that peaceful. Please, my friend you need to exercise a little bit more objectivity, your people are not any better; perhaps if you would remove your binoculars of bigotry and misplaced superiority complex, maybe there will hope that we can all live peacefully and move forward. Unfortunately, I do not foresee that happening very soon because you people are no where near giving up your lying and cheating ways, and in particular disrespecting and insulting our culture and religion - which no Hausa man will ever accept or tolerate. The sooner you and your people learn this, the better. ![]() |
Princek12:Sorry, your knowledge of the North is definitely limited and confined only to your travel experience there, while I was born, bred and still living in the North and moreover witnessed the rioting directly - not fed the information through hearsay. I bet you don't even understand the Hausa man's language let alone understand his mindset. Your statements are basically derived from preconceived notions and stereotyping we hear everyday from ill-informed and misinformed Southerners, especially from those like you, blinded by bigotry and hatred of Northerners driven by a false sense of superiority simply because you can string a few sentences in English. I can see you've even coined a new definition of illiteracy, just for own convenience, oh how quaint. For an educated man you seem to reason (and you are not alone) that the singular office of the president or head of state is the alpha and omega of power that determines the destiny of Nigerians and Nigeria as a country - hence the scrambling by ethnicities for the coveted office - and how so wrong you and your can be. Yes, now that Jonathan is in office, lets just see how he can direct the national treasury towards Southern interests at expense of other parts of the country. For an educated man, you fail to see that the real problem for Nigeria is nothing other than singular issue of corruption, which does not discriminate between its perpetrators and victims - whether Hausa, Ibo or Yoruba; Muslim or Christian. You seem to think that because Jonathan is president then your lives in the South would automatically change for the better. Yes, Northerners have indeed led this country for a good chunk of its history, but were equally aided and abetted by Southerners who formed the bulk of their advisers and government machinery. Therefore, if Northerners leaders failed this country while in the helm of affairs, Southerners also should equally, have a share of the blame. The issue my friend is that of bad leaders, if that is not the case I also should ask, what have your own leaders e.g.governors done for you. How have they transformed your state, with the extra 13% derivation funds from crude revenue - if not to divert it into their own pockets. Oh yes, your leaders are the best in governance after all we had OBJ. It is unfortunate, that an educated man like you would fully embrace the backwardness and retrogressive tendency of tribal and religious politics instead of moving forward towards a selection process that would give us the best possible leader - irrespective of: where he or she comes from, his religion or ethnicity; but based on good leadership qualities such as integrity, intelligence, wisdom, experience, education, dedication, commitment, clarity of purpose, transparency etc. Bottom line, PDP the most corrupt party of all times is de-voiding us of these important values, and sadly you an educated man seem happy to go long with it, without question Like I earlier said, don't forget to come back after a year or so and tell us how much Jonathan and PDP has improved your life. |
Ranoscky:Thank you for the little enlightening. It just goes to show the considerable divergence in values between different cultures. Some may appear weird and strange or even disgusting; while some can be quite quaint and interesting. Tolerance and understanding are the key words. Take for example food, while my culture does not allow dog or monkey, another person may not be able to do without his regular 404 or fine boy with his pepper soup. ![]() |
ayo84:Please, can that statement be truly accredited to Jonathan? I mean provide source or something, just to clarify. Mehn, its so outrageous, can't believe its true. Surely, the man can't be that daft; well no wonder they call him ODECHUKWU ![]() |
@Prince k12 You missed my point, yes there were reported attacks on Christians and churches, but so also were reported reprisals and burning of mosques; however, by and large the violence was principally directed at PDP and PDP Northern chieftains (as witnessed in the selective torching of their houses and PDP properties) perceived by their people to have betrayed them. Much as you or others may wish to put an ethnic and religious colouration to the violence, the truth remains that it was purely politically motivated - and that's exactly the point. Yes, Buhari does not have a fan base in the South nor did he campaigned there, therefore nobody is claiming or expecting him win; but the figures of 98%, 95% etc Southern votes speaks for itself, in fact anybody with common sense would know it just don't add up. And similarly also were the figures accredited to Jonathan in the North; these too are clearly quite questionable. The violence was a reaction by Northerners sensing that their votes were rendered useless through this blatant rigging; hence their sense of disenfranchisement - and also my second point. You made several references to the word illiterate or illiterates to refer to Buhari and my people as if it is synonymous with western education, forgetting or apparently not knowing that it simply means someone who cannot read or write. Unfortunately, your failure to apply it correctly suggests your acquired western education has not fared you any better that the almajiris who had benefited none. I therefore put it you that your sense of superiority is quite misplaced - a dictionary may be help from time to time. Yes, Jonathon is now president and PDP in power, lets just wait and see how much positive impact his and his party's (mis)rule would have on the lives of Southerners and Nigerians as a whole - please don't fail to come and tell us how much your's has improved after one or two years from now. ![]() |
Honestly, I just couldn't wait to read through all the comments from the beggining of this thread, the headline alone was enough for me. @ Poster have read your many posts but never felt inclined to comment or reply until now. You certainly come across as an intelligent, matured and grounded person and never also had I cause to disagree with you until now. I am really surprised and disappointed that you would be so ashamed of your of your own roots to the extent that you would even publicly acclaim it. I also feel your enbarrassment and disappointment associated with our people, because no culture should be proud of or condone violence in any form. Perhaps you may have been overcome d by emotions to have made such statement, and that much of an excuse I could concede to you; otherwise I equally would feel ashamed that you are indeed a Hausa man. ![]() In fact, even the the people you were falling over backwards to appease have noted the folly in your judgement and thankfully were generous enough to correct it. Political violence as in the present circumstance is not the exclusive preserve of the North or Hausa land. Name any regon of Nigeria that had not been stained by a history of violence or for that matter, any part of the world (including the so called civilised Western Europe and America). It may certainly not be the best method of expressing disappointment but could be understandable depending the degree of provocation, such as in the present situation where people genuinely felt disenfranchised - and with good reason. I would have gladly apologised to the Southerners in this forum for the violence, if only we were dealing reasonable people; but the level of naked bigotry and insults (unlike you) makes me feel otherwise. Yes, there was political violence in the north, and so what! Was it directed at Southerners? No, but at PDP, the party of corruption and the bane of our ills for the past 12 years. And who were the victims? Was it was not big Northern politicians mainly from the PDP party? Northerners for once stood up to their corrupt leaders to say enough is enough. How many of such leaders would tomorrow feel comfortably safe enough to be involved in such fraud against their own people? I do not condone the violence but certainly feel that a lesson has been learnt by those that provoked it. And this may be the dawn of a new beginning when Northern leaders would start becoming accountable to their people. I for one would NEVER NEVER be ashamed to be a Hausa man or a Muslim no matter the circumstances - NEVER EVER! ![]() |
fuke:I can assure you nothing will happen to him, because Kano is quite calm and things will get back to normal Insha Allah. No need to panic or exaggerate any further. ibibiogrl:True, but that would be bad news for your friend and ally (wannabe Southerner) edoyad from Nok in the middle belt, who happens live in southern Kaduna. You would be doing him a big disfavour since you would not be carrying him along, if the country were to separate along the lines you mentioned - I really would hate to see him stranded in noman's land ![]() |
^^^^ Sorry to bust your bubble and those in disbelief. It is quite common in some parts of Nigeria, come to the North where it is considered quite normal because the Islamic religion permits it. It is also commonly practiced among the royalty of Europe, if you care to check you would come to find that many of them are related by blood, through this sort of inter marriage. I think even the present queen of England may be related to her husband, Prince Phillip ( though not very sure). One man's meat is another man's poison. ![]() |
phreakabit:If you live in Kano, please verify where these incidences took place otherwise do not spread untruth; as for the torched houses of Kano political leaders earlier mentioned, these are immovable properties that can be easily confirmed. I therefore challenge to prove your allegation or otherwise STFU. There violence is not against any tribe or particular set of people in the country; but simply against PDP and the corruption that goes with the party - the last time I checked, PDP happens to be a national party with membership all over the country. So how can the riots against perceived rigging by PDP be construed in a tribal/North vs South perspective really beats me. Your wish along with your ilk of the same mindset who only wish to propagate hatred and mistrust among Nigerians will not succeed by God's grace. FYI, Kano people are more politically sophisticated than your ethnocentric prism will allow you objectively perceive them; if in doubt check their political history and voting pattern till date. ![]() |
soldee:I couldn't agree more with your observation. Northerners are simply rejecting PDP as a party of corruption, not Jonathon as a person or a Southerner (after all they overwhelmingly once voted for a Southerner before, e.g. M.K. Abiola and not to talk of ushering OBJ to power, when his own people were rejecting him); if not why else would they be burning houses of their own leaders who they perceive as agents of this blatant rigging. Yes indeed, Northerners are more politically sophisticated than they are given credit for, because they are the least motivated by tribal politics. ![]() |
abes: Thank you for exposing this obvious attempt to mislead with intent. @ Such tactics will not benefit any one all but those that want fuel distrust and hatred among Nigerians. Political violence is not the exclusive preserve of the North or any other part of Nigeria, or even the world for that matter. By the way, I am not advocating for violence because there are better ways to express one's disagreement; but just saying that your forgery has just been exposed - and shame on you. ![]() |
I have just logged on and not bothered to read many of the posts before me, but felt sufficiently motivated to counteract the blatant misrepresentation of the situation in Kano by the poster, who tried to give an ethnic angle to the rioting, consequently giving rise to some unsavory responses from posters with similar ethnocentric mindset like him. Far from what what he suggested, the wrath of rioters was NOT directed at non-indigenes (there may obviously be a few exceptions) but rather against indigenous PDP chieftains: for example there were alleged attacks on the house of the Galadima of Kano (brother of the Emir), Ghali Na'abba (former speaker) and quite a few more. There is relative calm now, but tension is still high along with a sense of insecurity, as the streets are virtually deserted. Please do not be misled, people felt strongly disenfranchised and rightly or wrongly decided to react violently. It will not be the first or the last to happen in this part of the country nor will it be an exception for the state or Nigeria as a whole. Political rioting is not restricted to Kano or North, it happens and has been happening in the South also. Please let us move this country forward without resorting to ethnicity; because this and unbridled corruption is our main challenge and biggest enemy ![]() |

dayokanu:I hear you. No wonder they call him ODECHUKWU ![]() |

If the imam was guilty of vandalism by defacing (a poster) property of the PDP; then PDP is also equally guilty of the same offence - indiscriminate pasting of posters, thereby defacing public property (a roundabout) which does not belong to them. In law, there is a saying, "he who demands equity must come with clean hands". In the present matter, both the imam and PDP are culpable of the same offence and should either be equally charged or set free. The fact that the police swiftly clamped on the former and ignored the latter is indicative of double standards (by a supposedly neutral law enforcement agency) the police. Moreover, carting the imam and his co- offenders away from Sokoto to Abuja (by chartered aircraft or whatever) at taxpayers expense, as if the state judiciary and police cannot handle such a minor misdemeanor, is the height of financial irresponsibility and high handedness by the authorities involved - talk of political asre-licking and killing a fly with a sledge hammer. |

pinkrex:He doesn't have to do any of the above, because power belongs to the people; in fact we the people are the ones empowered and indeed responsible to cause them (members of the house) to do as we wish, and if they fail/refuse then we can take appropriate action (the above in bold) against them - haven't you heard of the right of recall? Check it out, it is the process in which an erring member of the house or senate can be removed/recalled by his constituency if he should misrepresent them or is found wanting. Should he be president, Buhari's only responsibility would be to propose the bill; while ours would be to ensure that the law makers we elected to represent us tow the line - otherwise we should simply replace them through the process mentioned above. The way forward is very clear. We can start by getting ready to wake up from our slumber so that we can exercise our civic responsibility when the time comes; meanwhile can you stop being a defeatist (giving up before even trying) or for ever be doomed as an armchair critic - ready to find solace in poor man's prayer (god dey!) ![]() |
Corruption is the biggest evil afflicting Nigeria and its people. It is like a persistant invasive cancer slowly but surely choking and grinding our whole societal process to a halt. Nigeria is at present on its death bed (not dead yet, but in coma). If we can get rid of this evil then all will not be lost, because everything that was wrong and could go wrong would simply auto - correct, and our country would be back on track. Buhari is reknown for his anti corruption stance and had made many friends and enemies for the same reason and still has not changed, so we know the direction he would take if given the opportunity. Though he may not be the best candidate Nigeria can get and deserves, but right now I am quite convinced that he is the best option we have to choose from. I would rather vote Buhari a million times over (even if he would not succeed - its the thought/intention that matters) than vote for somebody who not only can not avoid corruption but would actively seek and court it. So let the revolution begin, BB ALL THE WAY ![]() |
Sorry mate, judging from the above text, I can confidently say that you have just shot yourself in the foot; and while at it you might as well want to more accurately revise your topic to read, " Our Coup Was Not ENTIRELY Tribalistic - Nzeogwu" because you man (Nzeogwu - himself) evidently admitted in no uncertain terms that the coup was at least tribalistic in the south - so what are you talking about. ![]() |

Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are. Birds of the same feathers flock together. These proverbs are apt for this unholy alliance which epitomizes the business as usual syndrome of corruption (our national plague) and the bane of our suffering, where a clique of a few elites (fat cats) have been playing political musical chairs with the governance of our country and our future. They have successfully been fooling the gullible majority that they are the messiah of positive change and would bring an end to their misery; while in fact they all the one and of the same kind (wolves in sheep's clothing) of self serving cyclical ruling class. Look at them coming to dine at the same table, imagine: IBB, Atiku, Obj etc - sworn enemies - now friends and common friends to GEJ, all re-known looters of public funds getting together to fashion out a new formula for sharing our money, after having brought gullible Nigerians (e.g. Beaf and many more) at loggerheads with one another during their various campaigns. Abeg, fellow Nigerians open your eyes to this political charade we now call democracy. It is nothing more than a system hijacked by these indigenous colonialists to dominate and subjugate us into non ending submissive poverty, using the most effective weapon of dominance, DIVIDE and RULE, devised by the British and used successfully by them to conquer and exploit our country - a price which we have since been paying till today. Tell me, when these ppl come together to share our money, do you ever hear them discriminating or squabbling between themselves about who is Ibo, Yoruba, Hausa, Ijaw, Muslim, Christian; is not chop and clean mouth in collective cooperation? Tell me, when they send you out to demonstrate/riot/ kill and maim one another in their names, ethnicity or religion; do they join you on the street - no; when you burn houses, are their house affected - no; after you've been killed for their cause, will they attend your funeral - no; after you've successfully aided them into office and they stole, would they share any of the loot with you or improve your village, town, state, or make your life any better - no. Then how is that well educated intelligent young men and women (leaders of tomorrow) would continue to remain so blind to the folly of these so called leaders. How would such generation of supposed progressives be willing accomplices in the adoption of divisive backward ethnocentric considerations ahead real values such as: intelligence, integrity, wisdom, vision, patriotism, selflessness , etc in the selection process for our leaders. We should all wake up and realize that our enemies are not Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba, Muslims or Christians; but these selfish people who pit us against one another using the powerful tool of corruption which they already have already entrenched in our institutional systems. Rather, we should be rooting for leaders who would do away with the evil of corruption and pave way for fair and equal opportunities so everyone can aspire towards reaching their full potential and dreams - without any hindrance or encumbrances. May God help us. |
