DBS - Disclosure and Barring Service. This is used to check your criminal record (convictions, cautions, reprimands, warnings) before you're employed. If you've lived outside of the UK at some point or you're applying from outside the UK, you usually will be asked for a police report instead.
BRP - Biometric Residence Permit. This is the "ID Card" that has your visa, it is not the one that you get in your passport when you apply in Nigeria. You pick it up after you arrive in the UK if you have a visa that allows you to live and work in the UK (Not a visit visa).
If applying from outside the UK, you will need the organisation to give you your COS which you'll need to apply with and if successful, you'll be able to pick your BRP after you arrive in the UK.

Please can someone explain these documents to me.

It is possible. No risk as by this time, you should have completed all your taught modules and be on your dissertation. If that's the case, let your employer know so that your start date will ideally be after your dissertation completion. Alternatively, you can speak with your school since you might need a letter from them for your employer.
Also depending on the employer, pre-employment checks take anything from 3 weeks - 3 months so you might not even need to do anything out of the ordinary.
People have switched before the end of their studies without issues.
Romoller:
Please is it possible for a master’s student to change to tier 2? Not immediately but assuming I accept the offer and they give me COS by September(course ending date). Any risk?

If it is a job with the NHS and the MS Teams isn't a last-minute switch from an in-person interview, you need to provide your MS Teams details at the point of booking your interview.
The above was the situation that the OP was in so creating an account was necessary.
KazikageSama:
Just a note please, to attend a Teams meeting now, you don't need to create an account. Any email can be invited for a Teams meeting. Once the user clicks on the generated link, it joins the user to the meeting without prior registration.

You have nothing to worry about as long as the application was filled in correctly. if the ECO needs clarification, she will be contacted about that.
Senpurelove:
Good Morning All,

Please i need a little clarification on the subject matter.

We are family of 4 Myself ,My wife and two daughters and my wife has applied for an admission into one of the uk universities.
CAS has been given, Biometric Done in Abuja.
But my little fear are as follows:

She has a study gap of 17 years but she is still with in 40years of age. She has a working experience of 15 years with 13 years working experience as a federal civil servant while the other two years was in a teaching Job.

My second fear is that she had her first degree in french Language and she is now going for a master in International Business Mgt.

Is there anything to worry about on the above?

Thanks

At any point as long as it is submitted along with your other supporting documentation - this can be through self-service or assisted service.
TouchOfSpice:
Thank you so much for your prompt response .

Please at what point can I write the cover letter, is it now or before biometrics or after visa .

I would have canceled and reapply but I don't have enough funds to reapply at the moment .

Thank you so much.
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 7 by mimilyrics: 10:47am On Jun 17, 2022
My answer is as straightforward as possible. Do you financially support your spouse? Does the question apply to you? Do you give him/her upkeep/maintenance money? If yes, then list your spouse but if no, jump and pass. Just make sure that your spouse is listed in the spouse/partner section. This is irrespective of the fact that one account is being used.
If you answer yes because the funds are in the other partner's account and not because you financially maintain him/her, it still won't be a problem because they are relying on the funds in your account and in this context, the relevance of answering yes can be proven.
Bhoyo:
Pls I don’t understand your answer. The answer only need YES or NO. We are only MA and spouse as a dependent. No kidss
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 7 by mimilyrics: 10:16am On Jun 17, 2022
Irrespective of whether you have IHS/Visa fee in your account or not, as long as your required tuition and balance do not fall below what you need, you are good. Your funds can always be more but never less - any excess above what you need does not need to meet the 28-day rule.
Ibro2021:
My people, please I have a bit of an issue I need clarity on.

I'm running USD & NGN POF and had the needed amount for my application in my account for about 2 weeks now.
Because of the CBN limits on fx transactions from NGN accounts, I lodged in my IHS and visa application fee into my USD account.

I'm doing a cover letter to support my application.

Now my issue is how much do I state as available amount on my cover letter since the IHS and visa fee won't have matured by the time I'm applying for visa.
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 7 by mimilyrics: 10:13am On Jun 17, 2022
As long as your required POF never dips below what is required on any day during your 28-day period, you're good. Just use the Oanda rate for the day you intend to submit your application to confirm that there's been no dip.
Laurendee:
Please when running pof in personal account, if I’m sending large sums above 1m from my business account to the account to run the account and also making various transactions on it but the total balance isn’t going lesser than the required pof amount, will there be an issue? The deposits are from my business account

Then list your dependant if the question is true for you.
Bhoyo:
@Duchess, @justwise and other gurus.

Pls what should I choose in this question?
NOTE: I have my spouse as my only dependant and we are using only one bank statements.

Under “Dependant details”
Does anyone rely on you financially?
Include those traveling with you and those who are not.

Pls it is urgent

Resubmit the application and include your daughter. Alternatively, you can write a cover letter to correct this error but I'd say it is better to do a fresh application for your own peace of mind.
However you do it, your daughter has to be declared to prevent stories that touch.
TouchOfSpice:
Good morning everyone.

Please I need your advise .

My agent erroneously forgot to include my daughter as my my dependant during the visa application. Though my daughter won't be going with me now.

Will this pose a problem whenever I decided to bring my daughter to the UK in the future .

Is there anyhting I can do.

Visa and ihs fee has been paid .

I just discovered the error when I downloaded and reviewed my application form from ukvi website .

Thank you .

It shouldn't. NYSC in any form is not a requirement to get admission offers - all you need is requisite education, work experience and the ability to sell yourself and abilities to the school.
Sakol4life:
Hello gurus in the house i have a question. I already applied for one of the uk universities for jan intake.

The issue now is that, in my cv, i fill my NYSC program which started November 3rd 2019 but my service was non appearance as i did not go to my PPA till i finished my program because i already had a job in that same november 2019 which i use as my professional reference in my cv submitted to the school

The question now is that would this affect my application for having my NYSC and professional work the same year

Whats are my chances of gaining an offer?

Bank/Black market rate. Only UKVI uses Oanda to convert your funds.

It shouldn't be an issue as long as you declare it your visa application.

Good afternoon house. Passports are always held in the country of submission except there is no British Consulate/Embassy in the said country.
nwaogukings03:
I read somewhere that a week is enough for the whole decision making process. Once ur file gets to an ECO, it takes an experienced one roughly 5mins to make a decision for visitor visa or upto 20mins for spouse visa. He quickly fills a form online for vignette to be printed on ur passport. If the place where the passport is held is close to ur country, then u should receive passport visa next working day max. Refusals take longer to make and more time to type the letter.

So the 6-8weeks waiting time is because the visa is neither priority service nor UK's priority right now (Ukrainian applicants are) and high volumes of applications. So staffs are likely stretched and if that is so, in big organization sick leaves is usually inevitable = likely increase waiting times. I suppose they are doing their best. It's not easy anywhere.

Same happened to me with a bank in early 2020 but I kept being passed around by the customer service guys as they kept changing their stories from it is auto-renew even though I had specifically opted out of auto-renew - we didnt need to inform you since it is auto-renew and crazy stories.... When I was in Nigeria last year, I went in to close my Forex and current accounts with the said bank while leaving the Naira account, they begged me not to because they realised that they were in the wrong and they refused to close the account cos of the 5p and 10cents that were left I withdrew saying that they couldn't close except it was empty - I couldn't withdraw that. The refund for the said card took 2 days after that.
humblemoi:
Actually the banks are in the wrong. I have written to two of my banks quoting CBN's guideline about issuance of cards without prior written consents and both banks refunded me the charges and destroyed the cards and I am saying this was in 2021.

Please refer to the CBN Guidelines for Card Issuance and Usage in Nigeria Section 47 (3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007 (as amended) sub-section 3.16 “Unsolicited cards should not be issued. Where an unsolicited card is issued and activated without the written consent of the recipient and the latter is billed for the same, or fraudulent activity occurs, the card issuer shall not only reverse the charges forthwith, but also pay a penalty, without objection to the recipient, amounting to twice the value of the charges reversed.”

You were 24 at the time of the said application so laying the blame on your agent or parents has a very high probability of failing. If you had been a minor, then you can appeal to the ECO's discretionary decision-making powers but you were not, so that won't fly.

Go ahead with your application with a back-up plan as you might or might not rejected. A ban might not come into place since bans are usually effective for 10 years from the date of the application in which deception or misrepresentation was used but then, that is left to the ECO to decide.
Mummydemdem:
If someone applied for UK settlement visa in 2008 with a wrong date of birth (1992) and place of birth (Nigeria), however was rejected due to in sufficient funds from the parent and in 2022, the same person wants to apply for UK msc student visa with the real date of birth (1984) and place of birth ( UK)would the person be rejected.

Pls note the first application wasn't done by him with major influence by the parent and agent who did The application also biometrics capturing was done at that time .

1. Each application is treated separately even if there is joint information filled. Even when applications are submitted at the same time, it is not a guarantee that they will be ready at the same time.
2. it wouldn't. For UKVI, change of name isn't compulsory after marriage so it won't raise eyebrows. Your wedding certificate is sufficient to prove that she is one and same person since it has her maiden name on it. you should also submit all documents and evidence that prove that you're both in a genuine and subsisting relationship.
Parlegrandpa:
Hi guys,

Quick questions please.

1. If the main applicant applies for visa now and the dependent applies like this time next month, will both visas come out the same time or will the dependent also wait for 6 weeks?

2. The name on my wife's passport is her father's name and not mine, would that affect anything as a dependent applicant?

Thank you as I await response from the house

ARU is great. Did my undergrad there and the quality is fab. Almost did my masters there years later but eventually declined the offer and went with another school.
Quality is usually what you make of it because whatever school you end up choosing, you need to apply yourself and study beyond what you're taught in class to enable you to slide into the professional environment with ease.
Harlem22:
Good evening everyone, I trust your day was good. Please before I ask this question, I know there's google and all but I need first hand response. Thank you lol
I have three school on my list, Anglia Ruskin uni, Nottingham trent uni and university of Hertfordshire. I was given an offer In ARU for cognitive and clinical neuroscience. While still waiting decision from the remaining two (same course, Occupational Psychology).
My question now is based on school quality, is ARU better than the remaining two? I am not concerned about proximity to London and all that, as the campus my course department is, is in Cambridge for ARU.

So I am between waiting for the remaining two or go ahead with Anglia Ruskin, Cambridge campus

Add Belvedere. Zone 5 fare zone
Welling. Zone 4 fare zone.
Bexley ( Bexleyheath, Erith, Crayford). All Zone 6 fare zones.
Lewisham - Zone 2.
Abbeywood - Zone 4. House prices have gone up because of the new Elizabeth line.
Hackney - Zone 2 (a lil rougher than the others mentioned but I still know a few people who managed to raise great kids here)
Dartford - Zone 8, if you don't mind the distance/extra transportation cost.
PS: Though Peckham is somewhat rough, there are some nice places in Peckham as a result of the gentrification. Added some pics below - have more videos than pics so, please make do with these.
The areas around the Peckham Rye station are too rough for my liking (think about the upgraded version of Oshodi or Ketu), going towards the Peckham - Camberwell boundary is better (think Awolowo road, Ikoyi), while the Peckham high street towards Lewisham (a mix of Bourdillon and Admiralty) is the best based on my obs. A former colleague who lived there mentioned gang activity amongst the teens and young adults so if you have kids, keep that in mind.

No one writes a letter of sole custody. You (the applicant who is the holder of sole custody) write a letter of consent stating the child's travel arrangements/anticipated and planned living arrangement in the UK (include your correspondence with nurseries to show planned arrangement if the child is under 5 years old) and back it up with the sole custody document from the court along with other evidence that the child has been living with you and that you're solely responsible for the child eg. Letter from the school, Letter from the doctor etc.

If the dad has sole custody, then it will be difficult to effectively convince UKVI that the child should be allowed to travel with you without the father.

No. As a student, you can't be self-employed but YES, you can be self-employed on PSW.

Good morning All,

So far, so good the prompt responses and quality information I have read here has really helped a great deal. I appreciate you all.

However, I have a question regarding the application I am about to submit.

My wife has just completed her divorce process and she’s been issued her divorce papers here in Nigeria in March. April we got married and I am about to submit my spousal visa application. She’s a British citizen.

Now my question; Is it compulsory she go for a change of name before I submit my application? Is our registry marriage certificate and her divorce papers enough to justify her not having my name officially yet? Needed to clear this doubt before I proceed.

Thank you.

BRP validity is dependant on course duration.
For a 12-month course, usually 16 months because of the extra 4 months.
Yes.

Brp for students has 16months validity (correct me if I am wrong oo). So is it still ok if I bring my kids after 8months since It will still have 8months validity?
