That is a lot of money.

For those insulting Nasir el-Rufai, ever wondered what happened and where the money went?
Why don't you ask yourself why you are so gullible?

Remember when Sanusi claimed that $47 billion went missing? Then continually revised that figure until it was zero?

Christianity Etc › Reigners Bible Church G.O Blames Collapse On 'the Kingdom Of Darkness' by mmsen(op):
Apostle Akan Weeks has released a statement revealing the reason for the recent collapse of the Reigners Bible Church in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

According to the general overseer, the incident was caused by 'the kingdom of darkness', who are in a clear battle with the church.

He pleaded with people to stop blaming him for the disaster, adding that he was currently lying in the hospital because of his injuries from the collapse.

"Let Christians in Akwa Ibom State know that this battle is not all about Akan Weeks and his church, it is the battle between the kingdom of darkness and the church

in the land.

The General Overseer started getting blamed for the incident after a report by Leadership newspaper revealed that he had allegedly ignored a ‘stop work’ order by the

Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA), given while the church was at the foundation level in 2013.

According to the report, Apostle Weeks went on to refuse to supply the building plan, structural design, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)

and other relevant documents to the UCCDA.

He also ignored another ‘stop work’ order by the agency in 2014.

The result of this was the collapse on December 10, 2016, which killed over 200 people and injured several others.

I was injured in the leg too. Please, this is not the time to crucify me; I’m still your brother. Reigners Church family, I’m still your pastor. The enthronement was

canceled completely and I am not interested.

Please let us rise and pray. Once I am out of my hospital bed, I will come on air and we will pray together. I was also seriously injured. One of my legs was seriously

damaged,"

he said during a phone-in to a private radio station in Uyo.

I guarantee you that in both cases the women were living in poverty prior to them falling pregnant.

Why don't we discuss that issue before attacking Nigerian police or pretending that American police are wonderful.

American police murder more than their fair share of innocent civilians and are the first line in the prison industrial complex that robs millions of Americans of their liberty.

*coughs* I saw this somewhere and I totally relate with it. Since I saw this thread, I just knew it will be good to put it here

Sometimes ago, I shared a post of a friend on emotional intelligence. The Uyo church tragedy and the comments from my Facebook friends truly show Nigerians have a lot of emotional intelligence "growing up" to do.

If the mishap had occurred in say a beer palour, night club, or strip club, many religious people wouldn't have wasted time and thoughtlessly say : "na God catch them". Using the misery, misfortune and tragedy of others to score cheap religious points.

Sadly, same applies to atheist. I've read several post from my atheist friends on Facebook, mocking the dead, asking where their God was when the tragedy happened and other silly sort of comments. It's uncalled for and totally wrong.

Where is your empathy for fellow humans. Lives were lost and you see the tragedy as an avenue to score cheap points in furthering your atheism? Well you lack common sense and have a lot of emotional growing up to do.

To the senseless survivals of the tragedy who waste no time to update their Thanksgiving on Facebook, Ini Edo and co, you are all emotionally retarded and insensitive to the misfortunes of others and have a lot of growing up to do.
I feel doubly for the people who have been effected by this tragedy - firstly for the physical injury and loss of life but secondly because they were deceived or coerced into accepting mythology as a basis for their lives.

What I hope that we see is some accountability for this act of evil that has caused so much devastation - both physical and PR wise.

As to your comment about this happening at a beer parlor, strip club or hotel/brothel - have you not noticed how it doesn't happen to those venues, only those built to honour deities?

Why is that?

What does that tell us about the nature of the people involved in the business of religion? Does it not suggest that they are even more unscrupulous than those involved in other businesses?

Even the famously corrupt Nigerian civil service has managed to avoid the ignominy of building collapse and yet churches that take in so much money in Nigeria are crumbling, causing mass loss of life.

It is impossible for there to be an omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient, all-loving deity who also presides over this planet of ours and answers individual prayers.

Animals do not talk, as the bible claims.

Virgins do not give birth, as the bible claims.

Human beings cannot live for several hundred years, as the bible claims.

The bible claims that Jesus is god and the son of god, at the same time. This is both foolish and dishonest.

Anyone preaching from the bible is, by definition, preaching falsehoods.

Christianity Etc › 25 Killed By Bomb Blast Near St Mark's Cathedral by mmsen(op): 3:48pm On Dec 12, 2016
Cairo: 25 killed by bomb blast near St Mark's Cathedral

A bomb blast has killed at least 25 people during Sunday mass inside a Cairo church near the main Coptic Christian cathedral, according to Egyptian state TV .

The explosion ripped through St Peter's Church at around 10:00am local time, wounding at least another 49 people, according to Egyptian health ministry cited on state TV.

St Peter's Church is beside St Mark's Cathedral, which is the seat of Egypt's Orthodox Christian church and is home to the office of its spiritual leader, Pope Tawadros II.

Services were being held in St Peter's on Sunday morning, while St Mark's Cathedral was being renovated.

A state-run news agency reported that a bomb was lobbed inside the church, though the AP news agency cited witnesses saying the bomb was planted inside the building itself.

"I found bodies, many of them women, lying on the pews. It was a horrible scene," cathedral worker Attiya Mahrous, who rushed to the chapel after he heard the blast, told AP. His clothes and hands were stained with blood and his hair matted with dust.

The presidency declared national mourning after the attack.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi described the bombing as a "terrorist act" that has no place in Egypt.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Ask them why they have lower standards of conduct for their deity than they have for human beings.

If a human father allowed tragedy to befall his children and did nothing to stop an avoidable event from happening that man would be held to account and demonized but xtians will make excuses for the worst oversights - whether that be collapsed buildings, abused children or terrorist attacks against church members, xtians will always ignore the lack of action from their all-knowing, all-powerful deity.

How can you claim that forced conversion is not permitted in Islam when Muslim 'conquests' are the means by which Islam spread?

No one could have said it better.

Not a single fucking day goes by without a "graphic pics" post on nairaland. Bodies torn, limbs mangled, adults, children, babies. Yet, these hapless idiots won't stop to ask themselves deep questions like: "why did this happen?", "what can we do to prevent this?", and "why do we keep living and dying like common animals in some jungle?"

They'll only make stupid, unnecessary religious/spiritual remarks like: God knows best, God will judge, karma, thunder is doing press-up etc or they make it political, or tribal.

My hypothesis is that the society, her politics, her poor governance and every other thing that follows are like this because our society is built on two ideals: money and basic everyday survival.

Our mindset is locked to some sort of "I must survive and make it quick" mode of thought and existence. It's the reason why we have rich politicians, thieves, pastors etc as role models. It explains why we have a soft spot for the promises of religion and the supernatural. It explains why we are a materialistic society. It's the reason why the common man isn't curious about his environment, why we don't stop to think about the plants and animals and art and poetry to see beauty in the universe, why we don't invest time to understand the world around us, why we aren't scientific, why we don't explore, why we don't build, invent or create. We want it quick, so we hustle, make some cash and import products we have no idea how to make!

We Africans will keep living short brutish lives until good education awakens us to the reality of our pitiful existence and forces us to re-build our society from scratch by creating new ideals (like dignity in hard work, be curious and explore the world around you, always ask questions etc) that the people in a healthy society should aspire to attain.

People in advanced countries aren't intrinsically better than us. It's just our ideals and way of thinking that's holding us down!
I agree with much of what you have to say apart from the materialism which isn't unique to any one society.

My question for Africans is why the intelligent Africans have allowed the foolish (men like Buhari) to run their nations into the ground?

Why is there so much cowardice when it comes to confronting those who keep causing the problems that we can all see?

Why other associations have not been created to seize control of their nation's destinies - sideline the numerous religious charlatans. useless traditional rulers and the elders who provide nothing besides outdated ideas?

Continuation of traditional ceremonies doesn't mean that they dont encourage or create avenues to enlighten, prevent or treat health issues in their communities.

Like I said, not all are BAD!!!!
If they are dying it is because people see no use for them.

If they had any place in modern life then they would not die out.

Just as many languages in Nigeria will die due a lack of need, so too will many of the traditional practices. This is an inevitable fact as communications and transport links improve and people gain greater access to information.
