It isn't institutionalized as it is in the North. Nor is it as common. Most parents send their daughters to school and don't think it is a hindrance to marriage or personal progress if their daughters are educated.

The Child Rights Act has been passed in the South - meanwhile Yerima and friends continue to molest children and call it marriage.

We keep on bagging but can't create... What's the point?
This is the point - Nigerians think that spending hard earned foreign currency abroad equals progress.

The fact that so many have to leave to get degrees and advanced degrees is not something to be proud of.

North is naturally and silently ahead without making much noise.
Ahead of what?

Have they decreased their illiteracy rate? Or stopped their barbaric practices that sanction child rape and the subsequent health issues?

LOL, northern states making waves while others are busy bombing pipelines and calling them parasites to excuse their own inadequacies.
What 'waves'?

They still have the highest poverty and illiteracy rates in the country.

If this makes the north more productive, then that is wonderful but from what I can see they have simply imported technology and imported the manpower to run a power plant - how has that assisted the north in dealing with its educational deficit or its unemployment issue?

Culture is different, in Nigeria we naturally have this showoff attitude, from the loud way we talk, to our elaborate dressing, parties, funerals etc. But don't be mistaken, white guys do far worst, I have been to a beach were white guys pop bottles of ACE and just pour it off. They don't drink it, they don't use it to "wash hand". Just pour it off. I have seen Champagne pools, where they fill a outdoor pool with Champagne.

Don't know why most people think white folks are super modest when they are infact the most vile people ever.....
It's not just Nigerians who have a show off attitude - if it was then no one would ever buy expensive sports cars.

Why do people buy cars that do 200 mph when the speed limit is 50 mph? To show off.

Why do Europeans/Americans spend so much on jewellery made of imported diamond and gold? To show off.

Why do French fashion houses sell belts for hundreds of dollars? Because they know that people are drawn towards flaunting their wealth/status.

This idea that it is only Nigerians who are flashy is ridiculous.

OP is ignorant.
Celebrities › Re: See the difference between Nigerian boys vs white guys in the same club by mmsen: 7:28pm On Dec 01, 2016
This is dumb.

Absolutely stupid. If you go to clubs in Europe, Australia or north America you will see 'white guys' throwing money around on alcohol (and drugs).

That is why people spend so much money on the ambience of a nightclub, to elicit loose spending.

OP - your ignorance is astounding.

Churches and other religious sham organizations are making billions of dollars (globally) because of fear and ignorance.

kingobozy:
I see absolutely nothing wrong in creating an app that members can use to pay their tithe. It's God's commandment that we pay our tithe and sometimes your tithe can enter into thousands of naira. With cashless policies and all it would be quite difficult to pay in cash so going cashless can come in handy in this case.

I think where Freeze and other hypocritical people will come in is that the church is trying to extol their members. They have forgotten that CHANGE is CONSTANT.
Which commandment says that people should tithe?

Who gave then permission to become a "PROFESSIONAL SOLDIER?"

Such a person has FORFEITED THEIR SOUL- period!

When World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Boxer, CASSIUS CLAY could not be defeated by any White man- inferior genes, you see- they DRAFTED him to fight in the VIETNAM WAR.

He said: "WHY?"

They threatened him with the removal of his title, and JAIL for refusing to become a Soldier against people who NEVER did HIM any harm.

So they stripped him of his title, and jailed him.

If American Blacks were INTELLIGENT, they should have BOYCOTTED EVERYTHING WHITE!

Then, people were SURPRISED that he CONVERTED TO ISLAM!
Being a xtian is indeed retarded but being a muslim is just as stupid.

The CBN governor lacks basic understanding of taxation, once this his proposal is implemented, people will automatically reduce their call duration thereby affecting both the present VAT and the corporate tax. The best way to generate revenue during recession is to lower your prices. More calls and more revenue.
Is this really coming from Emefiele because I really have a hard time believing that someone who studied economics would come up with such a foolish proposal.

This sounds like something that a man who didn't finish school would think of.
Politics › Re: "Igbo Are The Majority In Nigeria, They Cannot Leave"- Okorocha by mmsen: 10:23pm On Nov 26, 2016
malton:
In "Why Nations Fail", Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson opined that:

States do not fail overnight. The seeds of their destruction are sown deep within their political institutions.

This holds true for Nigeria.

We, as a people, have been utterly unable to take advantage of our society’s huge potential for growth in spite of the numbers.

Our failure, like they alleged, is by design. This too, is true.

I will not stand here and pretend as if the Igbos will be less of a loss to Nigeria than say, the Yorubas, or even the oil rich Delta.

Truth is, those people have contributed to the growth of Nigeria in their own way. They are incredible!

But, we've let the politics separate us; allowed our differences to define us; and have allowed others tell our story for us.

In a nation as diverse as Nigeria, carrying everyone along is important. Unless we tell our leaders the truth, they will continue to come between. After all, the only language they understand is divide and rule.

We've fought battles we shouldn't have. We've won battles but watched others share the spoils.

The average Nigerian lives everyday believing that his next door neighbor is his problem. How untrue that is. We may insult the Igbos all we want - I do that a lot - for fun, actually - but, the truth remains - they are the piece that complete this puzzle.

Stupidity is when Mr. A will want you to believe that Mr. C is your problem... But, be doesn't see any wrong in reaching across to that same person he condemns. Some even go as far as marrying their offspring(s) off to their (your) supposed enemies.

Mr. Rochas, being a majority isn't any consolation. You should channel all that vigor into advising Mr. President on the right thing to do. Our leaders have failed because we have been sycophantic for far too long.

If you want them in Nigeria so badly, you've got to prove to them that they are highly valued, like the rest of the society.

I wouldn't advice my sister to continue in an abusive marriage; for better for worse. Karyan ciwo!

The solution to them staying or not rests squarely on your shoulders (the leaders).

As someone who understands the pareto principle owing to my privileged economics background, I believe that the 5% comment has to be the most reckless, divisive, and belittling sentence that I've heard a president (someone who ironically, should have been a unifying force instead) make.
The simple fact is that they are more productive than certain other groups that I will not name but they feel as if their voice is not heard. Men such as Okorocha do not help.

That is why are they calling for their own state - I wish they would desire to stay and the rest of the nation would confront the real problem group.

If Buhari had half a brain he could have partially salvaged his disastrous presidency by addressing the structural issues that are more apparent than ever.

As much money as he has it's clear to me that this guy is not a man of great ideas or initiative. It took the intervention of Bill Gates for him to realize that he should intervene in the Ebola fiasco. Why did it take a foreigner for you to realize that it might be a good idea for you to ensure that your home country is Ebola-free?

If the FG started to pump money into sports in Nigeria then Dangote would use his government connections to squeeze out the competition and get the best deal for himself but he won't do it of his own accord.

Surely it would make more sense to solve the security closer to the root of the problem?

Give states the power and the impetus to form their own police forces.

And hold those states to account that do a poor job of security and the other indices (such as education and ease of doing business) that lead to insecurity.
