Always harping on Peace and Unity cannot save this country, only Justice will. Give every part of this country a sense of belonging and see how peaceful and unified it will become. Anything less is mere rhetoric. |
nikkypearl:It means you admit that the assertion made by the poster is not untrue -- that it was not spurred by bigotry or an attempt to denigrate an ethnic group. Indeed, pregnancy is a supposed to induce joy, happiness, etc but it has to be properly planned and accorded the consent of both families. If this is not the case, then, it can bring shame to the reputation of the families. |

[quote author=MsGood post=70375346]So wearing a leg chain means that someone is a runs girl bayi? When will Nigerians ever develop?[/quote. So development in your view means not viewing girls that wear leg chain as 'runs' girl? How can you equate Nigeria's annoying inability to develop to a mere fashion item? You and the person you quoted share a lot in common. The act of wearing leg chain alone is not an adequate reason to classify a lady as 'runs' girl. Both of you are wrong. |
Most people are amazed by the unbelievably long duration of the relationship due to the fact that relationship in Nigeria has been abused and distorted. |
baby124:. I think your viewpoint is a breath of fresh air. It pays to have a different view; even if it is not loud and popular. |

Christianity is not under attack as you erroneously stated. What is under attack is the immodest and showoff lifestyles of 'god of men', who exhibit wealth in the midst of abject poverty and hopelessness. These morally deprived leeches hide under the banal of the Gospel to perpetrate all kinds of evil, including building alliance with the venal and vile political class to further impoverish the people. A shining exception in our oasis of religious flamboyance, pathetic and lame understanding of Christianity is a clergyman called Prophet T. B. Joshua. While many pastors have perfected the practice of collecting money from the poor and keeping it for themselves, he collects from the rich and cheerfully gives to poor. This obsession with material possessions cut across all churches in Nigeria, the only difference is the method adopted by these churches. While Pentecostal pastors are unabashed and unconcerned about the reaction of the public knowing fully well that their members will leap in their defence, orthodox churches adopt stealth approach. It gladdens my heart to read a news report that claims Prophet T. B. Joshua has made huge donations to Nigerians deported from Libya recently. It won't be a surprise if a pastor, in the name of paying tithe and being eligible for Gid's blessing ask these struggling deportees to part with some their money. It is unfortunate you refuse to be alarm by the barefaced commercialisation of the Gospel by men, who by all standards, are nothing short of merchants feigning clergymen. The attempt to defend what is clearly indefensible portrays your understanding of Christianity, where your devotion lies as a follower of the Gospel. Jesus is the only model worthy of imitation, not your pastor, reverend, or whatever high-sounding honorifics they choose to bear. |
Benita27:I don't think the reason he quotes you was because 'he had the urge to quote you'', as you erroneously implied. He merely revealed the shortcoming of your statement, which your ego couldn't manage, nor tolerate. |
WORDWORLD:It is always easy and fashionable to blame the West for everything ails Africa, including our plain refusal to imitate and copy good examples and domesticate them. Muammar Gaddafi was a textbook definition of how not to be a visionary leader, who understands the rhythm of time and acts according. We all know and speak about Western imperialism especially on the repeated and orchestrated attempts to covet and control Libya's vast oil resources. On this note, however, Gaddafi seemed to have completely defeated the West and their collaborators until the Benghazi protest began. As I typed earlier, man is a holistic animal. Gaddafi erred by denying Libyans political participation for whopping 42 years. And when the people demanded for political rights he denounced them as 'rats' and 'rapists', and rolled out tanks against his people. He unwittingly created a chance for his Western traducers to intervene in Libya, and put to an end his autocratic government. You will certainly agree with me that Yahya Jammel was far more wiser than Muammar Gaddafi, even though the circumstances were a bit different. Having being rejected by his people, Jammel bade for time, secure a favourable deal, and flee to exile. Gaddafi could have dialogue with the so-called rebels of Benghazi, or secure a favourable deal and go to exile. He was vain and cocky. He thought he would crush the rebels and continue his rule. Gaddafi failed, and today Libya is a big mess caused by the Gaddafi and the West. |
I opened this thread with immense enthusiasm to read insightful and thought-provoking reasons why Arab Women should quit demanding for gender equality and concentrate on the restricted roles they play in the society. But women are not given the same treatment in the Arab world. Some states are almost at the same level with the West, while others are as conservative as the Saudis who recently granted women in the kingdom right to drive. Note that while almost all Arab women take driving for granted, Saudi women were denied the right to drive. Man and women are by nature holistic beings. It is wrong to solve economic problems at the expense of religious and political problems, and not contend with criticisms. That was why Muammar Gaddafi misread and misunderstood the ability of Libyans whom he had provided with all good things of life, except, of course, rights to political participation. So, staying at home and enjoying all the goodies government has to offer, is certainly not enough. |
elektra:This is brilliantly written and garnished irony. It also sums up the ordeal of that woman. |
elektra:Calling him evil is wide and completely off the mark. Maybe he is simply being hypocritical and pretentious. There is nothing that cannot be rationalised, depending on what interest you want to achieve. You seemed surprised he used the Bible to rationalise what is clearly abominable and constitutes a reasonable evidence for divorce. Yet, we should reject his view without resorting to calling him names. |
After about good six years this thread is still relevant, attracting comments from people with extreme preconceived notions and stereotypes about how ladies behave, whether virgin or not. In a way, this question mirrors our society and its moral ethos which often undermine and diminish womenfolk as second-class citizens. There is an abiding evidence of hypocrisy in African men. We deflower our sisters and yet demand that they remain virgins, if not, we hypocritically called them whores. Men are hardly subjected to similar examination and treatment as women. I have three points to make regarding this issue. First, it is wrong to associate fidelity with virginity, especially where no empirical evidence subsists. Second, there is no prove that girls who are not virgins are promiscuous and difficult to trust in relationship. Third, we know that everyone cheats in relationship -- male and female -- it is not unreasonable to state that virgins cheat too, using their virginity as leverage. We have seen ladies who deceive their boyfriends into believing they are virgins, but are later exposed as fake. I think it is not wise to attack the OP; instead, we should challenge him to provide evidence that makes Virginity synonymous with fidelity. |
The story you narrated above is pretty complicated and requires critical thinking before taking decision. I wish you have not been impacted with negative ideas about what marriage is. It is unfortunate that your mum has suffered and endured domestic violence and abuse which seemingly expands as their marital years increase. No one deserves to molested, abused, and disrespected, whether man or woman. Contrary to those who claim that your mum accepted this despicable ordeal because she wants to remain married, the children have been here only source inspiration and hope. The picture of the man you painted reveals someone who does what he likes without minding the consequences of his actions. A man who is self-centered and disrespectful to a wife who is hardworking and productive. Even though we know your mum is not without fault, the indiscretion and indiscipline of your dad cannot be rationalize. Given his predilection for physical abuse, I think your mum needs to demonstrate she has had enough by seeking for separation first before thinking of divorce. Your dad contributed to the building of the house; therefore, kicking him out might be a painful and difficult exercise. |
johnson232:I like your brilliant observation. That lady seems to derive satisfaction in bringing her family issues to nairaland, no matter how trivial and unimportant they are. A man who suffers depression might have been alienated from his family members. If, for example, the youngest seems to be unfamiliar with him, it is no-brainer the husband needs to spend time and reconnect with the baby, or be involved in taking care of her even if from afar. I have a hunch -- now, I wish I am wrong -- that the Op wants to indirectly inform nairalanders about her husband's challenge with depression. |
aalangel:Nawa o. It is beyond comprehension how you almost -- although unsuccessfully -- turn the obviously agitated and distraught man into the guilty party. You seemed to have created a picture of a weakling who cannot discern what a harmless conversation is. There is no sugarcoating it: his wife's amoral and illicit conversation crossed the line of decency and fidelity. Using yourself as an example is relevant in this case, because the wife concealed the content of the conversation which might further underscore her infidelity to the husband. And yes, coming to Nairaland to seek advice depicts strength and forethought, not weakness as you erroneously stated. I thereby join voice with numerous nairalanders who have advocated for a rigorous and stern chat with the wife as resorting to divorce at this stage seems immature, even unreasonable. |
L3G3ND:Lady 'logically reasoning', well done o. |
Nazeren:Hmm. This is even more shocking than your first comment. It seems you agree that two wrongs make a right. I am dumbfounded. |
Nazeren:If you would recommend such inhuman and callous treatment for your sister who was caught cheating, maybe your crude recommendations might have some merits. |
Abang52:You are about to play an unnecessary game that might have unintended disastrous consequences. The ideal thing to do -- which might seem foolish and unreasonable to you at the moment -- is to kick her cheating ass, and not seek for revenge. Revenge, especially in relationship, is for weaklings. Making false marriage proposal does not portray good judgement; instead, it puts you in the same category as her: Cheaters. |
whywhyogun:We have known before now that you are sick, in fact very sick. It is surprising you are just realising what has been an established fact. Anyway, I don't think it is too late to find a cure for you. Good luck as your journey to sanity begins. |
Lomantics:Which good lady will snub the company of a 'good and nice family?' I think your hubby is correct; you hate his family without a reason. lf you ask me, I think you are suffering from a psychological problem. |
Lomantics:I lmplore you to read your post slowly and carefully to see the lack of connection between the first and second paragraphs. In the first paragraph you admitted to have 'passively cheated'; while in the second. you claimed that'd you 'are not close to it, no flirty chats or romantic gestures to anyone even jokingly.' |
mu2sa2:I would have ignore your rather apologetic and illogical reply, however, the disingenuous, albeit subtle attempt, to create a completely false picture of the situation in northern Nigeria necessitated this brief reply. Northern Nigeria, though not accustomed to the vices you mentioned which are more common in the south, is one of the dangerous places to live in beginning from the 1930 Kano riot. When political independence was achieved in1960, the orgy for blood seemed have astronomically increased, manifesting in periodic outburst of killings and destruction of properties without any known government intervention to secure lives and properties. We have had series of crises, riots, and violence until the mother of destruction -- terrorism -- found a hospitable bode in the north. Today, the military is lampooning the infamous practice of parents selling off their daughters for terrorists related activities in your supposedly tranquil and peaceful north. Since marriage and child bearing have no restrictions whatsoever, the slaves dealing parents can almost certainly return to procreation after a successful transaction has taken place. |
ElmaSpeed:It is uniquely northern Nigeria malady to boost of an impoverished, longsuffering population that is grappling with all the deficiency of human index rating. It is all about politics and the strangulation of the people to achieve political objectives. But times have changed. It is something the old horse Tanko and his co-travellers have refused to accept. Nigeria must be restructured, and not on the terms of the north that takes prides in something that should ordinarily bring shame and reproach. |
mu2sa2:Are you justifying Mr. Tanko's overbloated family size with an exceptional case from the south? To be fair to Mr Tanko, the number of his family members can be considered conversative in relation to the commonplace practice in the north. More importantly, he is educated and apparently wealthy. So there is no chances of seeing his children on the street with bowl on their hands. It is no longer news that most northern Muslims breed like rabbit, without thought and concern on the welfare their children. Even the lone voice of Emir Sanusi -- relentlessly calling on the north to outlaw some old, established, and widespread cultural practices that are illogical -- has been ruthlessly silenced. Today, it is business as usual. Mr Tanko's boost of unproductive northern Nigeria population strength is what Dr John Danfulani referred to as 'giant social menace' because a mind blogging twelve million children are out of school in northern Nigeria. Indeed, if Mr. Tanko is truly an elder statesman as he claims to be, he is supposed to be sober and reflective on the level of wickedness and deprivations he and his likes have brought upon the north. And not to portray northern population as if it is a source of strength, and not a version of modern day slavery. |
A 'technically defeated' terrorist group will continue carrying attacks? This is only possible in Nigeria where government tell barefaced lies without suffering negative consequences. |
aztec44:Closed. Bad market. Since you claim to be in the US, why not seek your so-called professionals who are Nigerians there. Thanks. |
TheHerald:Whoever said money-politics will end in Nigeria is seriously out of tune with reality. APC, just like its identical twins PDP, has created massive and widespread poverty and misery, and will attempt to woo youths, by their conscience with few notes of naira, and continue to deepen their agony after the election. |
rosalieene:Facebook? Hmm. The critical part of me fails to agree your with claim. On the contrary, I think you are merely testing the waters, to see what people's opinions might be. |
