PoliticsRe: Lagos Government Orders Traders, Drivers Out Of Marina by murmee: 8:58am On Nov 30, 2019
The problem with this type of development is sustainability! I was pleasantly surprised when I went to Oshodi about two days ago and I saw the orderliness in the way the street traders displayed their goods. They were far away the main road and everywhere looked tidy and nice.

What made me sad, however, is that the whole arrangement will soon collapse because the Lagos state government will not be able to sustain it. In about a month's time, everything will go back to the usual messy, chaotic and noisy street trading. So sad!

We are not like your Igbo people who supports and defend illegalities.

For your information those monarchs are speaking for themselves not the Yorubas. Those are the monarchs that feed fat on smuggling, the farm produce thing was just to blackmail the government policy on the border closure.

The Yorubas support fully the closure of the border most especially to prevent the criminal Igbos (hardworking Igbos) that snuggles weapons through those borders.
Very good Post!

FamilyRe: Should Wife Give Her Inheritance To Her Husband? by murmee: 7:42am On Nov 22, 2019
yeyeosoronga:
No, she's not expected to hand over her inheritance to her husband
Yoruba families give inheritance to their female married and unmarried children.
Muslims give their married or unmarried daughters an inheritance even though it may be half of what the male children are entitled to.
Christian Yoruba families share inheritance from parents EQUALLY among their married and unmarried children and Male children don't have any advantage over female children. That is Civilisation in action!

The simple answer is that the Colonial masters designed Nigeria to FAIL, Period!

Exactly! IMF does not like Nigeria at all. Imagine IMF telling Nigeria remove fuel subsidy instead of telling us to refine our crude oil to avoid paying subsidy on imported petroleum. IMF will support anything that negatively affects our country because Nigeria's Pain is IMF Gain!

NCC is conniving with the service providers to cheat Nigerians.
One annoying one is calling Airtel and the person cannot be reached, you will be asked to drop a voice message after the beep, you quickly cut the call and realised that while they are still asking if you want a voice message they are billing you at the same time. huh
You are right. NCC, NERC, SON and most regulating Agencies in Nigeria are not on the side of Nigerians. They are terribly corrupt.
PoliticsRe: What Is Your Opinion About The Nigeria Land Border Closure? by murmee: 10:55am On Oct 23, 2019
My observation is that even before the borders were closed, most of the rice sold in Nigeria are local rice which are packed with foreign Names and labels.
Going forward, all locally produced rice should be marked 'Proudly Nija' in addition to the brand name.
We need to be able to identify locally produced rice!
PoliticsRe: What Is Your Opinion About The Nigeria Land Border Closure? by murmee: 10:26am On Oct 23, 2019
martyns303:
Probably one of the best policies this government has implemented.

Let me educate someone as to why.

Nigeria is trying to be self sufficient especially in the area of rice, Nigerians consume a lot of rice, a whole lot of it and it will be best if this rice is produced locally. Not only will it boost our economy it will also reduce the strain on forex.

Now most of the rice we consume come from Asian countries like Indonesia etc, to discourage foreign rice from coming into Nigeria, the Nigerian government choose to either increase the import duty (tax) on the product or outrightly ban rice importation.

To bypass the above condition, smugglers now import the rice into Benin republic, from there they take advantage of the free trade zone thing to bring the rice into Nigeria. Now, this has become a loss/loss situation for Nigeria, because, not only is the rice still coming to Nigeria, we are not even generating tax on the imported rice because the tax has been paid to Benin republic and brought into Nigeria free.

The Nigerian government has pleaded with the neighboring countries to please help us checkmate these items from being dumped into Nigeria, but they refused, they refused because of the huge profit they are making at the expenses of Nigerians. Well, the Nigerian government has responded, we can not tell you not to allow these items come into your country, no wahala, but we will make sure it doesn’t come into Nigeria by closing our borders.

Now, they have load sh%t of rice sitting in their country and no way of moving it to Nigeria, more so business is no longer moving for them and they are now feeling the pressure.

The unfortunate thing is that, products that are locally produced in those countries can not come into Nigeria also, now it’s a loss/loss situation for them. Countries like Ghana unfortunately got caught in the cross fire, this is because Ghana do not share a land border with Nigeria and have to pass their products via one of the countries we share land border with and since we have closed the border, their products can not come in too. The government is talking with the Ghanaians to see how to resolve this problem.

Secondly, fuel in Nigeria is probably one of cheapest in Africa, this is because the Nigerian government is paying subsidy on fuel. If you don’t know what subsidy is, let me educate u. It means, if fuel is supposed to be sold for N300, the government will pay N150, and then you the citizen will pay N150. Now, after the government pay for subsidy, some wicked Nigerians will move the fuel to other countries like Benin republic and sell it off there at the rate of say N250 and make extra profit. Hope u catch the drift?

See that border ehn? Make then no open am at all. I Dey chop normal Nigerian rice now, na local chicken we dey kill chop now, no more imported frozen chicken wey dem use chemical preserve.
Much as I agree with most of your submission, I want to say that if the subsidy on petrol is removed and we buy petrol for N300 per litre in Nigeria, it will not stop the movement of petrol to neighboring countries.

As long as those countries need the product, they will buy it at any price. The solution is for the Government to find a way to stop the movement of petrol to those countries!

Must you eat Rice? Is rice the only Nigerian food that you can eat? I get irritated when people lay so much emphasis on Rice and that is the reason the smuggling of rice will never stop!

You are right. If Onnoghen had been denied the position then given his seniority, there would have been a public outcry that would reinforce the propaganda of opposition parties that APC was anti-christain and anti-south. It would have devasted APC in the presidential election in the south with APC losing badly. It was better that Onnoghen was confirmed as CJN and then his dirty closet exposed to show he wasn't fit for that exalted office. And for sure a southerner must emerge as president in 2023. Even the real northern power brokers know that Nigeria's continued existence is hinged on that.
Good post. This is how I want people to reason!
