Education › Re: Oyo Assembly Moves To Take Over LAUTECH by mytym(m): 12:17am On Sep 24, 2016*. Modified: 5:49pm On Sep 24, 2016 |
Well, I have read all comments and we all have our sentiments and objectives.
A University is created by law and the ownership of the school between the two states was birthed by law which means the agreement will have to be dissolved by law not through Jacobic methods of victim propaganda that one of the parties involved is portraying .
The ownership imbroglio had started around mid-late 2009 during Akala-Oyinlola respective tenures. This was because Governor akala wanted Oyo state to be the sole proprietor of the school. Unfortunately he's not lettered so his approach was cumbersome and crude. Also, Lautech had developed to be a household school at the time.
One of the deeds of ownership states that both States shall regularly promote the required responsibility for development both physical (structures) and academic.
There had been misgivings in 2009 that only Osun indigenes enjoy the medical services of LTH (Lautech Teaching Hospital) located in Osogbo. This naturally is correct because of its location and necessitated a plan by the authorities of the school to build LTH Annexes in two 2 major towns of Oyo State (Oyo and Ogbomoso) while another new faculty structure (building) be added to the LTH Osogbo campus, totalling three (3).
The bill usually is 50-50, half-year arrangement which means a particular Governor will fund for 6months while the other follow suit the following 6months. Governor Akala released funds and instructed the authorities to build two 2 Solid hospitals , and 1 Faculty of Health Sciences housing fantastic structures...but ALL in Ogbomoso!
It was a callous and calculated move by Akala, he even equipped the hospital's with state-of-the-art medical gadgets but couldn't get the NMA accreditation bcoz he was told machines won't operate themselves. Apparently he spent more than the normal 50/50 cost-share all in a bid to hijack the school. He later realized that ko le werk.
Meanwhile Osun state had established another separate University with its main campus in Osogbo, but it was at its teething stage also because both states contributed immensely to the growth of LAUTECH. It will be foolhardy to nurse an enterprise from conception and abandon it when it has blossom started bearing fruits. The founding fathers of Lautech had good vision and it was not by mistake the school was rated best state uni twice consecutively (The ratings greatly declined immediately after the ownership tussled ensued). It was simply difficult for osun to part away, just like that, not when the university has successfully register its presence in S/W and even if Osun was going to agree to the arrangement, the manner and approach of Governor Akala would have been seen as rather condescending.
So, in April, 2010 the crisis grew worse. The 3rd VC Prof. B.B Adeleke, an Osun indigene whose tenure was going to expire in July, 2010 was Sacked by Akala barely two 2 days after the 20th Founders Day and a convocation. Activities in the school was paralysed, managed to finish 2009/2010 harmattan exams and went on internal strike just exactly as it is happening now!
Uptill that time 2009/2010 was the longest session lautech recorded(December 2009- December 2010). we had three different internal strikes in rain semester alone. As final year student, we were few and school was very scanty. I remember we would visit the Late Prof. Ayeni's residence every night to charge our phones and PC (School area @Adenike had been without electricity for most part of that session, about 11months thereabout) and read thoroughly all the News dailies to check for any iota of hope of the crisis been resolved and the school resuming.
The hope came in November, we read in the papers FG resolved the issue (however temporarily), the ASUU/ssanu/nasu congress finished their 5-hour meeting around 8:30pm that night @250LT. The strike was called off and rain semester exams started Dec 1, 2010.
Most people didn't realise that the joint funding had helped Lautech to rise faster than its peers. If you doubt this, try and compare with all other state universities established around the same period even some federal unis despite the crisis.
No doubt the partnership is going to end someday but not in the manner Oyo state is going about it. You cannot force any party to leave...

Aisha96: I am a proud muslima, a devoted one at that. But I also like being honest at all times.
Nonetheless, I think I may be forced to have a rethink and retrace my steps regarding the darkly controversial nature of the religion I believe.
A separate section was created for the mulims so that they wil be able to discuss better and have their thoughts well organised, but why can't same be said for the Christians?
Is Nairaland actively upholding tribalism/favouritism, or what? The same Nairaland that included in its laws that we should not disregard people's race, tribe, religion? Talk about blatant hypocrisy. Honestly, I find it very irksome that I'm first required to accept the "islamic proclamation of allah being the only true sovereign presiding over the whole universe", each time I want to drop a comment on an islamic thread.
Please, Seun needs to look into this matter, and see to it that it is appropriately resolved.
However, I don't honestly care much though, because this one-sided system only stands to prove that Islams are afraid of their vague, sphinx-like beliefs being subjected under the powerful lens of thorough scrutiny and questioning and being brought into the glory of light. Their greatest fear is that once rational people begin to invade their threads unrestrained, then gradually, their lies will be pointed out, one by one, in the glaring eyes of all. Just this last week on a project site, I met an Engr. who was having his solat independently around 4pm ...others invited him that they should go to mosque, he said it's been almost 3years since he stopped going to the mosque or visit any 'priest or scholar'. He stated the exact reasons as you have. I'm a Christian and I told him that we have hypocrites in all religion. |

naphcoco: Osun state magistrate court today 3/06/2016 ruled that all muslim pupils in public primary and secondary schools be allowed to wear HIJAB provided it match the colour of the uniform. This will only bring segregation and, in case of religious uproar, the target will be easy for assailants or terrorist as the case may be. The idea is evil and unholy. In public schools, some require the female students to plait certain style of hairdo and some ask the students to barb a low cut. Introduction or extension of Sharia law to some other states of the federation, should vehemently be frawned at, and all relevant religious bodies should stand to kick against the evil scheme. Buhari is here to gradually promote Islam and Islamize Nigeria no doubt. Having a pastor in the person of Osinbajo is clearly a political gimmick aimed at cajoling the unsuspecting and naïve christians, of which the RCCG stood out. At a point Osinbajo will be converted or made to resign his office. The Bible stays, "we (believers) are not ignorant of the devices of the Enemy". Making Nigeria a member country of Islamic Coalition, amending the Constitution section 262(1) of 1963 and, encouraging the wearing of hijab in public schools within 1year in office, is a course for concern. Any Christian who sees nothing wrong with these development, is not a Believer and the Spirit of Christ(Discerning) is not in him, and he is either a muslim or an infidel. I have said this on another thread that Aregbesola and Elrufai are pawns that have started the Islamizing process long before buhari was voted president. It's an APC agenda . I tell you, the verdict will be what the governor will work with and another big objective have just been achieved. All the school/religious policies which hitherto were pending due to various outcries will be fully implemented. Only that this time the governor has a legal document to crush any resistance however subtle or great. Osun is in deep trouble. I weep for this country. |

Jokers. After all these patterns in their policies, it is very difficult do believe Buhari is not inclined towards Islamizing Nigeria. Don't forget he had tried in 1983. The truth is a 'secular' nation like Nigeria should be careful https://www.nairaland.com/3114046/nigeria-use-sukuk-infrastructural-funding/2#45771737https://www.nairaland.com/3120543/why-nigeria-quick-trumpet-chibok/3#45885342Dual ideology in our Constitution according to Bosun Emmanuel is a ticking time bomb. In Nigeria, has anyone tried to challenge as to why the Penal Code is used in the North while Criminal Code is used down south? In the same Constitution. Penal offence is judged based on penal code which largely is religious (Sharia) while a Criminal offence is based according to the Criminal Code. For instance acts like halotry or alcohol drinking are punishable under the penal code only in the north! because it is against Sharia while the same acts are not considered as crime or offence according to the Criminal code but social 'vice' based individual's choice(s) so long the fellow is 18+. The great confusion is that both are contained in the Constitution of a supposedly SECULAR state...the grand khadi is a judge you know? The grazing bill is also there... Guyman02: We expect GEJ to brief the President on how he can transform himself into a father for all as many had anticipated during the elections.
It is frustration and hardship that can make his brethren in faith in Kano and Niger States to behead a Christian woman and men over claims of blasphemy in a manner that is even contrary to Islamic injunctions.
The nation is sinking and needs to be rescued by all citizens. Buhari made mistakes by segregating against citizens who did not vote for him and this was aptly reflected starting from his initial appointments into his kitchen cabinet; people like General Danbazau (Minister of Interior) who cannot hide his bigotry should be shown the way out of his govt. He needs to reach out to leaders in the South East and South South who are getting more angered by the use of the military against their people and invasion of their communities. The people of Benue, Taraba, Enugu, Ekiti who have lost loved ones to Fulani herdsmen assumed to be Buharis kinsmen needs empathy from the President and not silence.
His utterances of goodwill to the citizens can revive the economy like Obama did for America, when something bad happens in any part of the country he should reach out to people in those areas, we watch on CNN how Obama stops everything he is doing even if he is outside US to address the nation when there is a mass shooting or even accident, he comforts the bereaved families and tells them that the whole America mourns with them and feels their pain, somethings he cries along with them even if it is fake tears , thats leadership and reassuring for the people which Nigerians also expect from their leader; that way he can rebuild confidence of Nigerians and even his enemies will struggle to have something bad to say about him. When he is abroad and somebody says Nigerians are corrupt he should not accept, but when he comes back he can tell us at home how corrupt we are and flog those who are corrupt using the law and not condemn his citizens in front of some white guys who are more corrupt than us.
Anyone who says he doesnt like Nigeria and wants to protest peacefully should be allowed, even many people in Texas says they hate America and want to have their own country are not shot at by security agencies, they go around collecting signatures for a referendum which they have not been able to achieve the required number for years because it is their right to freedom of expression. In the UK there was a referendum by Scottish independence activist last year which failed.
The President needs to look into the confab report and see areas where he can borrow some ideas from that document, he must stop being rigid and know that it is more difficult to be a leader under a democratic dispensation than military where you rule with decrees. GoodLuck Buhari! You have nailed it. Spot on! I pray God help him. |

if indeed a Certificateless man like Buhari truly attend the America War College then there are so many issues that calls for concern.
We need to be bothered of the curriculum of War College at that time. What was taught and what was required from applicants.
The war college claimed that the study's is equivalent to a Master Degree. And Buhari is among their Alumni. This is something the rest of the world need to be worried about.
Those who helped to package buhari during the last election were not able to package him further or maybe he sacks them. a militarist who tendered electricity bill and affidavit as a certificate.
The Americans who houses the War College doesn't live like a militarist.
We need to investigate the war college if their claims are true. Or maybe they were bribe by APC during the last election considering the fact that the Western Media also help to install Buhari as president in Nigeria.
Buhari who insult Israel in diplomatic to Muslim nation forgetting that Israel is capable of wiping Nigeria states with nukes. and also went further to collect Islamic loans.
Islamic loans comes with signing Islamic policy in a secular state like Nigeria. The oil which is the main stay of the secular economy comes from the Christian south the Niger Delta. Which will be used to pay back the Islamic loan. Why is buhari dragging Nigeria to Islamic nation. illiterate and zombies said there is no accrued interest with Islamic loan but what about terms and conditions of signing Islamic policies most Nigeria don't know about? is Nigeria Islamic Nation? do we need Islamic loans? these are the people who fund Islamization agenda, jihad and terrorist.
