Auladimeji1:Sure... as if there's a difference in the death caused by local guns vs foreign ones... |
banquetking:So you're ignoring the strong economic growth from 2009 (after Obama inherited the recession of late 2008), to 2017. It appears you're also ignoring the effects of Trump's unneeded tax cuts that will overheat the economy and markets, precipitating the inevitable recession of 2019/2020, while adding trillions more to the Deficit, and cutting social benefits. There's also the destabilizing effects of unnecessary trade wars that will accelerate China's ascendancy? Like economist Austan Goolsbee quipped in an interview to MSNBC: "I don't see how you come into the game with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter, your team is already ahead, and you're like, 'I won this game.' " |
Quite simply, God (in all religions), is a concept invented by human beings to explain human existence, their "specialness" in relation to the natural world, to explain natural phenomena, and to address the very scary notion of simply not existing once we die. It's only natural for a sapient being to ponder these things, and the answers (e.g. religion and pantheon of mythical beings) are meant to give us some comfort, some guidance, and something to hope for. Think about it: for about 4.5 billion years on this Earth (and there may well be sentient beings on other solar systems, at different times), there was nobody to think about or invent God: the language, mental sophistication, and societal organization just wasn't there. It sort of evolved over the past 50-100 thousand years, starting from explaining natural phenomenon as being caused by special beings, to creating a pantheon that mimics our hierarchies, to creating a scenario (e.g. afterlife) that rewards or punishes current behavior. Long story short, human existence does not need the theory of God; humans just need to: 1. love themselves 2. love other humans as themselves And you'll see that you don't need the threat of eternal damnation nor the lure of heavenly bliss to build a more perfect society. |
So out of 3,300 cases, we found 9 belonging to one Olarewaju. How about the others fraudulently claimed by names like Smith, Thomson, Williams, Fitzgerald, Aponte, Milakovich, or McKenna? |
benzene00:I'm sure you're being funny ![]() It's sad that in this day and age people's lives are at the mercy of erratic power supply... |
PrecisionFx:Can you elaborate please, because the millions who have died, and the 10s of millions who are infected would disagree with you. |
ehhmah: Jayslicky: fr3do: Shehunoshewhat:The numbers seem to illustrate a couple of things: 1. this is for those who seek treatment under this program, not necessarily the total number infected throughout Nigeria, which is estimated to be around 4million. 2. men are more promiscuous if you analyze the data: 1 man infects about 3-4 women. Yes, one woman can pass it on to more men, but it's far more likely that if 1 women passed to 10 men, those 10 men will pass it to about 30-40 women because the majority of the women they do raw don't have other partners. If women were just as promiscuous, you'd see an almost equal ratio. 3. men probably are in denial, doing things like taking showers in salt water, rather than going for treatment |
jesmond3945:In the first place, I'm of the opinion there is no God, so I can't argue for who would be saved or not saved; nor can I argue for why or why not. In the second place, yes, people die in countries all over the world for a multitude of reasons ranging from human violence to accidents. However - on the whole - the prevalence of accidental deaths is much higher in countries like Nigeria, where 1). accidents could have been prevented by maintenance, and 2). in the occurrence of accident (or sickness, or a bullet wound, or premature birth, or post-natal blood loss, etc), there are well-equipped medical facilities that vastly reduce the incidence of death. Development index of a country does determine the magnitude of tragedy it experiences. Yes, sadly 12 innocent souls were murdered in California in spite of all the infrastructure in US. However, hundreds of innocent souls are lost daily in Nigeria due to violence of one sort or another, and I'm saying the vast majority of lives lost in Nigeria could have been prevented. There are demonstrable ways (as in many other parts of the world has show it) to reduce the incidence of deaths, and it has very little to do with divine grace. Here's a puzzle: is it divine grace that the antelope survives so the lion dies? |
jesmond3945:One is saved, yet thousands die in this country from accidents, disease, high tension wire, violence every day. Most of the deaths would be preventable by human actions (better roads, newer tires, less speeding, malaria medicine, maintenance, good jobs), but instead people look to an imaginary being for salvation. It's irony that at one hand we denounce African mythology and our explanation of the supernatural, yet accept the mythology of Israelites and their explanation of the supernatural. |
dazzlingd:Well said. Took the words right out of my mouth. Many many people are hit everyday. Some of those people probably thanked God for saving them the previous month... |
Jax1:And also courtesy of the nearly 200million Nigerians who are out to cheat, scam, steal, kidnap, and harm. Ask us to do work, we do it shoddily. Ask us to be nice to our neighbors, we would rather cheat and rob. Ask us to take care of the environment, we'll litter. We want to make quick money and use it to flex. We're quick to blame the very same people we elected when we knew they had nothing to offer. |
OkaNaUbe:Does it matter about the timing? He is free to implement a minimum wage at any time, for any reason, including for political purposes. Isn't that also why PMB has recently broadcasting his achievements? |
SolutionMee:This is a reasonable argument, but there's a slight flaw: the sniper won't "evacuate" the beans. Unlike the water that will rise and evaporate, remaining chemical ingredients will remain in the beans stew. That's why stew gets thicker when you cook it longer: water evaporates but the tomato and other seasonings stay. It's a dangerous thing to use insecticide for instead of the proper preservative for human consumption. Diluted sniper will not kill a person today, but accumulate enough of it in your system and it can shorten life expectancy. |
Ejusni:And when men date multiple women, sleeping with them... what do we call that? We say it's a wise thing to do. Why should it be any different when it's a woman doing the same thing? A guy typically dates 3-5 women, keeping his options open for some years (which is basically cheating on them), and will eventually only choose 1 (that is if he doesn't dump them all when someone new catches his eye). So now the other girls who had been faithful to him now have to start all over. Better for them too to keep their own options open so when one door closes, they can pursue the others, and even add one or more to their roster in case of incasity. |
Ah.. my former subjects... how now? Have you learned to treat your people well and encourage critical thinking in your societies yet? |
ct2:Sheeple voted him in. Perhaps your question is why we have so many sheeple in Nigeria... |
abdulsemiu02:Cute photoshoot. Pre-wedding can be beautiful without any nonsense pose. OP, you posted date, but no location . How can we come and ![]() |
Of course what you've posted are the official prices. Not the real price it would cost to get your passport. Every document in Nigeria has its official and real price, from driver's license, to CofO, to passport. ![]() |
aku626:One might say so, but think about this: Nigeria became a British protectorate in 1901. Colonization lasted until 1960, so they were in charge for about 59 years, during which they built schools, roads, rails, institutions. Granted they had been subduing different parts of Nigeria for decades before, and they were not benevolent. Africans have been in charge of Nigeria since 1960 until 2018, for about 58 years, and really haven't made much progress since 1960. Africans were also in charge of Nigeria before the British, and for the most part brutally subjugated their own people for centuries with plenty of wars and death (Benin, Oyo, Kanem-Borno, and Sokoto come to mind). At some point, Africans need to realize the futility in blaming others and take responsibility for their own fate: we can continue to blame others for joining a bunch of us into countries, or we can decide to build an exceptional society. |
The Prince of Wales will be wondering why nothing has changed in this country since he used to visit decades ago: no light, bad water, ill-trained soldiers, worse leaders, shitty roads, jalopies posing as cars, sectarian violence, poverty, garbage heaps with smoke polluting the air, shoddily built buildings, unequipped hospitals, people dying from easily curable diseases, and other unmistakable signs that one has arrived in a sh1thole. At least if he went to South Korea or China or Brazil, he would see the tremendous progress over the past 4 decades. I won't be surprised if his son, Prince William, comes in 40 years and makes the same observations. SMH. |
Blood money all over Africa, yet the Oyinbos, Asians, and Indians that have been able to eradicate poverty from their society did it with good policies, technology, and hard work. The examples are all over, repeated again and again, yet Africans still believe that trading human parts is what brings wealth and posperity. SMH. |
oloyolo:Your sentence could be about a Yoruba/Ibo/Igala/Hausa/Isoko/etc. chick and the sentence would still be true. No region has monopoly on wickedness. Did you read about the girl that poisoned a family of five recently? |
iamJ:I was going to just comment about how fine these couples are till I read your divisive comment. In fact, I will still say that these pictures are wonderful, and that there is beauty in being conservative in dress and in manners. I'm from SS but I still appreciate all of us. Be inclusive, not divisive. |
It's funny how women talk about maturity in keeping a woman. How about a woman's ability and maturity to keep a man? This girl was obviously not mature enough to be in this particular relationship as she brought nothing but emotional and financial liability. Date responsible girls that can hold their own. If you date a poor girl, you get a dependent. Might as well pay per shot, and keep life simple. ![]() |
Throwback:Right, because the presence of HSBC in New York, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Rio, Tokyo, Johannesburg, etc. is how they launder money. Not investment banking or the sign of a bubbling economy. |
I thought PMB said the economy is doing great under his watch ![]() |
At first I was like "why would Alaafin's wife wear this... it's unbecoming of her position", but then it hit me: 1. Kabiyesi himself approves, so why should I carry matter for head. 2. It's probably a good idea, since the girls may feel more connected to her (in school uniform), and take her advice to heart more than if she came in royal clothing... |
Where is the wow, bikonu? And if you want to see their pictures, we can visit Instagram on your own, without disturbing frontpage Nairaland with it, tainkyou. |
AreaFada2:10 months. Yes it lost value, but that's no excuse not to save. I would recommend fixed deposits in a bank to preserve buying power, but 300k saved even if it buys only 280k worth of goods in 10 months, is better than 0k. |
This is commendable, but my people I have a few questions: 1. How do people save 300k in 10 months? This is after rent, transport, food, and other living expenses. 2. What kind salary allows you to save 300k? At least 3M yearly salary? 3. Why is this money not in a bank? Keeping this kind of cash at home is risky okwa ya? spiritofthedead:You're right... that's what I thought at first... maybe it was supposed to be 30,600, but at least I'll give benefit of the doubt. |
rusher14:On one hand I agree with you... I would rather build factories, but on the other hand: she didn't become a billionaire without investing in the right things. Real estate is what gives the best return on investment today, with minimal hassle, in comparison. That said, the way luxury real-estate is heating up so fast, especially in Lagos, we're bound to have a crash/correction in the next few years. |
There's data leaks everywhere, though this is particularly careless: 1 - sensitive data was saved unecrypted in CSV files. That's just so egregious. 2 - unencrypted data was then sent to the cloud for storage 3 - it too them so long to respond to the notification (it wasn't even Arik that detected the error) Apart from the sensitive data, there's also useful information about flight frequency/destination, unique customers, and also the popularity of MasterCard in Nigeria (437,457 transactions, 77% of the total). |
