PDPGuy:
Air Peace has already applied to the US DOT for permission to fly the Lagos-Atlanta route, so this FAA directive applies to the airline as well.
Therefore Air Peace as 65 days to comply with FAA's security and technical standards before being permitted to fly into the US.

Category One certification encompasses airlines, airports, and the regulatory infrastructure of the Civil Aviation Authority. So far, MMIA and the NCAA are Category One certified, hence Delta Airlines direct flights from the US to Nigeria and vice versa.
Now that you mention it, I wonder if this is related - as in the US don't want to grant the permission as this cuts profits for US airlines, so they are raising this concern now - possibly due to lobbing by Delta.

Of course, it's no excuse if we're not meeting the standards and we have to sit up... but the thought just crossed my mind.

Seems like a fake news...NG & US are in good terms politically
We may be good friends, but by not meeting adequate standards, we are compromising US security, and they don't like that.

Not just Nigerian airlines, but we will lose the ability to fly from Nigeria directly to US. Even US carriers may be barred from direct flights, as the issue is with the airports. This will take us back to the bad-old days of flying to Europe or other West African countries, disembarking, going through security again, before proceeding to another plane that is US-bound.

Maintenance is an ongoing process, not just pass once. This is something NCAA should take very seriously.

I will also add this to the pile of things PMB has failed at.

Dillusionist:
like we have gained anything from these contraption other than hate and oppression. .mbaka should shut up he is fast losing relevance
It's funny you'd ask if Igbos have gained anything. The very fact that the majority of Igbo wealth comes from other Nigerian markets (e.g. SW, NC, rather than SE) should be an indicator of who has benefited whom. I'm not denying Igbo ingenuity, hard work, and fearless entrepreneurship, but frankly, none of this matters if there are nobody buying these products. If all Igbo businesses (traders, banks for examples) were to rely solely on patronage from the SE, they'd be nowhere as successful as they've been.

Fr. Mbaka said many truths:
- Igbos have more to lose from the break up as so much investment and human capital is OUTSIDE the SE.
- those agitating really don't understand the real issues - instead of becoming politically savvy and playing ball, they complain about being marginalized.
- Igbos should take responsibility for their lack of unity; we'd like to see you vote for SE candidate with ONE VOICE
- Biafra does not guarantee unity, and we'd soon see calls for Republic of Anambra

So there are many more officers of Northern origin. Whose fault is that when the majority of Igbo youth opt for business and education instead of enlisting? It's not a bad thing to aim for economic advantage, but this is the logical outcome of choices made, and can't be used as an excuse to cry about "marginalization."

So the North votes as one bloc for their candidate and defend their choice with heart, soul, and blood. Again, why don't the Igbos support their own in the same manner, instead of complaining that other people do?

With the tremendous wealth, ability, education of Igbo, they should be able to parley that into solid political gains.

If an incompetent child wants to drive your car, will you let him? If Nigerians deserve to own it, they should put in money, and run it properly. Ethiopian Airlines been very competent over the past few decades, serving 90+ countries, and this will help them expand their route and give the rest of us Africans good service without dependence on oyinbo airlines.

It's sad that Nigeria has no flagship, but perhaps instead of mismanaging companies, this should be a wake-up call.

Romance › Re: 'Edo Ladies In Italy Have Sex In The Bush, I'm Ashamed Of Them" - Edo Guy by nextstep(m): 5:50pm On Aug 31, 2017
So na only Edo girls you see? Please. Go to any given city, and you will find money exchanged for pleasure. Thailand? USA? Nigeria? UK? Japan? Germany? Netherlands? Italy? You will see girls from all over the world plying their trade. No country has the monopoly, though USA probably has the largest number of call girls and street walkers. Who invented backpage or badoo?

At least, our Edo girls use that shoko to build house, pay school fees, start businesses, and so on (though I frown upon those relatives that sell their girls or are always demanding). Contrast with many oyinbo ladies who, in their own comfortable countries with plenty jobs and opportunities, sell services to buy handbag or drugs.

And for those talking about used vs new, that Uni girlfriend of yours has had more unsafe sex than the professional (who wraps up and cleans every time). Which is more risky?

Oh poor mosquito, I never knew it could be threatened.

That is the political correctness am talking about.

Why do we need people to go through every post.

Offensive posts can be flagged.

Almost everything annoys almost anyone this days, that is where common sense comes into play, has censoring words on nairaland stopped people from modifying such words and passing their message across.
I think I understand what you're saying, but in this case, the AI was looking for words like "kill", "die", "dead", which a lot of hate speech contains.

Take the phrase: "stupid mosquito, how dare you, I will kill you, in fact you're already dead"; this is likely most often directed at a person, not the actual insect. What's an AI to do? It's not about political correctness, per say, but about discouraging the use of twitter for hate speech and harassment, which has become too much in the recent years.

We're of course arguing about the few false-positives, forgetting about all the people who have been protected and discouraged by this AI. Imagine the case of somebody stating her opinion - pretty much about anything - she will be harassed and even issued death threats by those who disagree. It happens a lot.

Now imagine you're a company, you don't want people to be harassed on your platform; you don't want the negative reactions and media attention - not to mention lost advertizing revenue - if you're found not to curb hate speech.

As for Nairaland, if it were up to me, I would censure comments that just spew abuse. My thoughts are "you're welcome to free speech, but not on a private forum, and you agreed to our terms when you signed up"

That is what humanity will end up being due to political correctness.

When pets are loved more than people, what do you expect.

Keep on designating jobs that require rational judgment to AI and you get things like this.
The AI will get more rational. How many people do you think it takes to read through about 500 million tweets per day? If one person can go through 10,000 tweets in 8 hours non-stop, you'd need 50,000 people - just to flag tweets. This needs to be designated.

The sad reality though, is that if human beings themselves didn't issue threats, there'd be no need for such a system.

No they should re-colonize Nigeria . There are Africans that are striving to improve their countries and doing well for themselves , it's all about priorities and how the leadership and citizens choose to execute their plans of development.

So let me correct your sentence;

Whites should return and re-colonize Nigeria.
We don't even need to go so far... bring Ghanaians or Kenyans and they will show us how it's done. Even tiny Botswana is able to run and function efficiently. We really don't have leadership that looks beyond their pockets to understand what it means to run an economy. What we have are street ruffians who have been lucky to have grabbed unto power. And what about our business boys and girls? Instead of growing the economy, all they want to do is import-export, buy the latest phone and floss at every opportunity.

Properties › Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by nextstep(m): 3:49pm On Aug 30, 2017
Generally, if a building has columns, the walls themselves are no longer load bearing. Imagine the following for a 10-storey building: you put up columns, then slab, then columns on the that slab, then slab again. Technically you can reach the 10th storey without placing a single block, and the structure will stand. Then you can start laying blocks, and ideally the lighter/smaller, the better.

For bungalows, I've seen "columns" improvised with 9" blocks filled with cement. Sure it's a little stronger than the blocks without cement, but I feel this un-reinforced column is just a placebo (as in, it's a feel good with no real benefit) because any sheer will cause a collapse since there's no steel to keep concrete in tension.

Honestly speaking Buhari has a good chance to return ( even tho I may not support him again )

Realistically only David Mark can unsit Buhari

How

PDP goes with Mark ,with the idea that it's time to free the middle belt from the Hausa/Fulani dominance

This will give him 70% of middle belt
40 % of north east
25% of north west

With and Igbo vice he will get 7 million votes from
From we the igbos ( won't vote for him tho )
South south will give him close to 7 million votes too ( Jonathan didn't get this high votes because people didn't really vote for him the ones that voted votes against Buhari )

South west are always divided and has very little votes even if he loses here the difference won't be more than -1 million votes

The margin from the middle belt will give him the edge ...south south and south east will roughly match the core north ...

So if the margin in the middle belt is strong enough he wins
I like your analysis, but I really doubt he will get anything past 10% from either NW or NE. To really divide the North, you almost have to field (sadly another) NC, or a NE candidate.

I hate to see that every party must field a northerner to oust incumbent Presidents in Nigeria. Can't we v people from other regions who can gain votes like PMB gained in the southwest?
Why north again. PDP ll make me hate them more if they bring any northerner
I would like to see people from other regions, but if you want Buhari out, you need to put in somebody that will divide the Northern vote. Since the winner is Northern in either case, there will be less worry and violence about "cutting short the Northern term." Anything else is wishful thinking at this point.

Come 2023, and we can field somebody from SW or SE, or even middle-belt.

Why not Duke President and Sanusi vice?

But Soludo /Fayose is a powerful pair
Because the North will not go for that as much as they would for Dankwambo (or another popular NC/NE candidate) for president. We truly want the North to have a hard, divided choice that will cost Buhari a lot of votes. Anything else will weaken the chances of PDP winning.

Soludo/Fayose is a powerful pair, but without a Northern candidate for president, this won't fly against Buhari.
