spyder880: I have also noticed the new improvement in ESWAMA. The heaps of rubbish has been reducing and of course the new bins in most locations. Wonder who is in charge now.
That land opposite the blue island hotel is a private land as I heard, I also noticed the new activities there, a road going through it and some works. That property is among the most well positioned lands in Enugu. Some of the buildings inside it looks like they collapsed out of neglect. There is a story about the land which I cannot mention here because I could not confirm the information.

Seems you guys are talking about the old Pascal and Jake Estate ? Have they settled issues over that vast land?

Eldorado indeed ! Late 70s/early 80s Nigeria were the best time ever in that country . We had peace, trains were running on schedule , Udorji salary award was available and Nigerians were saying " my Mercedes is bigger than yours".

Op, why do Ghanaians prefer Hiplife to good old great highlige music ? It was Ghana's single signature in the world of music. I read sometime ago, accounts of Western tourists flying to Ghana for highlife gigs in the 60s and 70s. All that is gone due to the peoples embrace of the classless hiplife. That's why i like Congolese , they will never dump their Soukous for any new music. Afrobeat nearly suffered the same fate like highlife, but thank God Fela sons and Lagbaja still keep the flag flying . And the childish Azonto dance? Tufiakwa!!

My love for highlife music took me to Ghana(i had gone to buy classic highlife albums)for the first time in 2009 , i was shocked that Ghanaians still felt angry against Nigerians due to what happened in 1984/85. I was more shocked at the popular Accra's Katamanto market where some people showed open aggressiveness when they found i was Nigerian. I was not amused ....

Many Ghanaians were also employed gainfully in Eastern cities . The 'Ghana Must Go' saga was never popular in Igboland. We felt connected to Ashanti and Fanti people . During marriage and funeral ceremonies then, one would mistake Igboland for a part of Ghana due to the blaring sound of Ghana's highlife music in such occasions. Odoyewu was a popular name among Igbo hippies .

It's like the OP knew about Ghanaian immigrants life in South Western Nigeria only ? Tens of thousands of Ghanaians were also having good time in the South East. Igbos love for Highlife music made it easier for Ghanaians to settle in Aba , Onitsha ,Port Harcourt, etc. Musicians like Sammy Koffi(Okukuseku), Dede Amakirye , the then new kid on the block Nana Agyeman, and groups like African Brothers, City Boys of Ghana, among others, made millions in strong Naira , either through record sales or through live concerts. Rogers Allstars record labels took many of them into contracts that earned them millions as well.

What we normally do in my family when Nigeria was playing were: tune to NTA , put the TV volume on mute mode, tune to Radio Nigeria's live commentary by the late Ernest Okonkwo(may God bless his soul)and Tolu Fatoyimbo. Great observation from the op! Rewind back : when Enugu State was created some folks in some parts of Igboland were saying that 'Wawa' people would start killing each other if left by themselves. Little did those people know that the children and grandchildren of former coal miners have learnt to imbibe patience and humility . Enugu people hardly boast, they rather work diligently to achieve success in whatever they do. This civil decorum passed down from the colonial coal mine administrators has remained part of Enugu culture . A kind of no drama attitude . Hence my coined phrase for Coal City State : Dedication + Competence Redefined !!
