Igbo enwe eze is an adage , but it's still true till today . A culture of incoherent political structure cannot change overnight . Ndigbo must be politically united and economically integrated to develop as an ethnic nationality within Nigerian state. The inherent dichotomy in Igboland is itself anti progressive and a serious threat to organized leadership structure .

A well integrated projects to open the East by encouraging easy movement and trade is needed if Ndigbo are serious about investments and poverty reductions. Would be great if Anambra, Enugu and with some investors role, could build a 100km rail line from Enugu to Onitsha. Trains running through the route every 20 minutes on both directions would unleash growth in trade that would give the state's economies double digits growth . Later Onitsha-Owerri-Aba route will follow. Enugu-Umuahia-Aba route is already built, but expansion and a joint-venture agreement with NRC is needed. Another 90km connection between Abakaliki and Enugu will be built as well. With a population of about 35 million , the South East is an economic miracle waiting to take off. The improvement in power supply , and the prospect of new power plants, should be a sign for our state governments to work together, seizing this new opportunity towards bringing about 'a German wonder' to Ndigbo. We cannot wait any longer, this is our time to get started !! Igbo businessmen and women should be encouraged to bring foreign partners to the region . We must provide conducive environment necessary for exploring our ingenuity, or else we waste .

How do you know that Abia state government has built a road leading to the power plant? There was a story on NL last year about how Prof. Barth Nnaji was not happy with gov. Orji over the governor's unwillingness to build road(s) to the power plants. Besides, you says that you live in Enugu. Have you been to Aba(the power plants site) recently ? Are you sure of your claims here?

I have explained my understanding of a wealthy state and what its responsibility should be. Millions of people around the world, or in Nigeria will also agree with my take on this thread. If we don't change the way we evaluate responsibility and performance , we will continue to be victims to self imposed degradation.

Does a wealthy state in Nigeria offer its citizens what China or Middle -East countries provide for their citizens ? Shouldn't the same indices be applied in evaluating performances or conditions of wealthy states in Nigeria ?

What you fail to understand is you mixing up two terms that have nothing in common but related however .

A definition is not the issue here. The issue is the concept of wealthy in a socioeconomic and political sense in a global setting. We seem to have different exposures in this topic . I did not pick on any particular state in my initial take, neither will i be drawn into that now.

Btw, what you're speaking of is in terms of "development", you can experience growth (which leads to wealth), but you need development to sustain it. So for you to ignorantly state that because Anambra is lacking some infrastructures is plainly silly. Though infrastructures are important, it will not prevent those who want to break through, if Innoson could do it (car plant) with enormous amount of power required, anyone can do it. Anambra doesn't have any high debt profile, in fact, it was amongst the states without any debt YET, it was making do with its budget.

Nigeria as case example is growing economically, our SWF is growing, our reserves has increased by almost double digits (%), there are indicators that's showing the Nigeria is on the path of economic boom, but our development isn't that robust yet. At least with GEJ, power is improving, rail is improving, transportation is getting back on track. Communication is established and in the process of going higher, our banking/credit facilities are doing ok, agricultural schemes are in the direction. All these will support further growth.

What I'm saying in my rambling is that growth and development are two different things but need each other. Growth technically is directly proportional to wealth, but you need development to sustain it.

Does saying that my state is wealthy but not developed make sense to you? Why do some people accept half truth in Nigeria ?

chino24: You must not comment because you do not have a point. When it does not favor your lame state then no state is developed nor wealthy. This is the same reason we say that Anambra is a monolithic state in the SE. There are only few states in Nigeria that can match Anambra, these are Lagos, Rivers and Kano. Anambra match on very soon we will be planning on acquiring incapacitated states around. Lol

I have seen and lived in a wealthy state in a federation. In view of this fact , i refuse to accept your idea of a wealthy state . We must look at the big picture and stop ridiculing ourselves .

Any improvement in power supply in the East is good, but we should look at the big picture . We still have a long way to go; we must demand more and stop being satisfied with the little they give us. More South East integrated projects are needed. Enugu-Onitsha Express(?) should be completed quickly , adding of about 2m shoulders at Milken Hills section(till 9th mile) is equally necessary .

The wealthiest states should have good infrastructures, functional administrative institutions, the lowest unemployment rates and a robust manufacturing sector . Its citizens should also have access to affordable health insurance , plus a sustainable social welfare for the weak and elderly . All the states in Nigeria lacks all of the above, and in my opinion cannot be classified as 'wealthy', unless we continue to live in denial . The states we have aren't even able to provide water to its citizens . I mean basic water.... And basic security ?

I'm sincerely committed to telling the truth about our beloved Enugu state - the melting pot(isi mmiri) Ndigbo. Deme, Nwanne mmadu!!

I wish that Enugu state government opens those great rivers/lakes treasures scattered across the state by constructing good road network to those places. From Adada to Oji Rivers, amongst others; a trip to Akuke will avail one a multi-billion dollars treasure donated to the state by nature. The scenery there is breath-taking; that place could offer Enugu state a Palma de Mallorca(Spanish tourism Havens) kind of a tourist resort. The lake i mentioned earlier is another goldmine. School children should be encouraged to tour those important rivers and lakes. It's a shame that many of us know Lagos more than our home state.

All those powerful rivers also play a role in religious belief of Ndigbo. From Asu(Esuu) River at Agbani to Nyaba, shrines were established by many communities to pay respect and offer sacrifices to the different water goddesses inhabiting those rivers.Even some children in Nkanu communities were either dedicated or named after these rivers. In Southern Nkanu, it's not unusual to hear people named 'Nwa Atavo, Nwa Esuu, Nwa Nyaba etc. Whether river worship impacted positively in Igbo culture or not is a different matter.

I ruled out 4 corners - udi hill. Ruled out 4corners- awgu route. Ruled out 4corners - agbani route. That leaves us with 4 corners - Garriki route.. I guess its the small river you meet before nyaba bridge. Where did the two rivers join?

Bro, it's not a small river as one might think . If you see the powerful current of Atavo during raining season, you will know why it has over decades consumed many lives especially in Southern Nkanu. Some families have also fallen victim to its ravaging floods as well. Atavo gave my home town Akpugo its unique demarcation of Ndiagu and Ndiuno Akpugo, as it runs through the middle of the town on its way to Amagunze. I made a mistake yesterday, Nyaba River joined with Asata River(Nike people call it Ekulu River), not with Atavo River. This joining happened in a place between Obodoo Nike(a big farmland near Eke Obinagu) community and Onichagu- Akpugo. I think the two rivers joining created the biggest freshwater lake in the state sandwiched between Amechi-Idodo, Ubahu and Akpawfu communities in the newly Nkanu East. All these rivers play a big role in our ecosystem. Virtually all the bushmeat consumed in Enugu is supplied by forests and bush farmlands that stretch around those rivers.

Amechi people from Eke otu area down to obuegu and on call it Nya. Thats is where they get their sands for building.
My town Ihe up to Agbogugu and Ituku call it Nyaba. Meanwhile i want to know where the river joined abia state.

Atavo River(1.2km from 4corner juction)joined and flows with Nyaba River towards Amagunze/Ihuokpara area into Abia state. Or perhaps the area after Amagunze could be in present Ebonyi state. What i know is that it passes Amagunze which is a border town in Enugu state.

I grew up in Enyimba City(Aba), had all my education in Enugu and i have been to many parts of Igboland. My relatives had a flourishing business(they still have)at Aba, Onitsha, Enugu and Abakaliki. All the exposure in these cities made it easy for me to have a very good knowledge of the dynamics of different parts of Igboland. I am passionate about Igboland, and equally feel at home discussing events and geography of any of our 5 states.

It's called Nyaba River. It joined Atavo River which runs through some communities in Nkanu, extending into Abia State . There is another one called Aruga by Akwunanaw clans.

The level of intolerance in that part of Igboland worries me. They also use to parade and make fun of our people as 'Osu' in some of those villages where many people are blindly, poisonously conservative and insane .

Are people who think it's against Igbo culture also going to parade girls who love using candles and bananas on each other if caught ? Or is that going to be tolerated as a part of lap dance for men?

Hopefully they wouldn't be leached, folks in that part of the country do apply unconventional solutions . In the 80s they use to hammer 6 inches nails into caught armed robbers' head in Aba.
