Curiously, none of the accused denied the graft allegations, they confessed to the crimes and offered bogus excuses which are not tenable in the law courts. In other climes they would have been executed, in others, jungle justice would have prevailed, and in yet another, they would have prosecuted and kept behind bars where they belong.
But what do we have here, they enjoy sympathy from some quarters while some even say it's political persecution. But I believe, it is the right thing to do.
If you believe too, send this to other people to garner more support for the fight against corruption and looting in our nation. There must be consequence for crime otherwise Nigeria will not develop. |

ATERI: Ogun State was created in 1976 during which Obasanjo- also from Abeokuta area of Ogun State- was Nigeria`s Military Head of State. The Panel that was set up to recommend where the capital of Ogun State should be located recommended Sagamu as the best place for the capital. Sagamu is nearer Ijebu Ode than Abeokuta. What happened next was that the Awujale of Ijebuland made it clear that Sagamu would become Ogun State capital over his dead body. Awujale`s problem with Sagamu was that the Akarigbo of Ijebu Remo had not been given Awujale enough respect, that was the opportunity that Obasanjo seized to take the capital of Ogun State to Abeokuta. So the crying Awujale today only has himself to blame because it`s the prestige of state capital that is making Alake more popular than him. If Awujale had not objected the location of the capital a stone`s throw from Ijebu-Ode, Obasanjo would have accepted it as recommended. Awo had to be indifferent because one of his parents was from Abeokuta while the other was from Ikenne, not very far from Sagamu. In fact, each time I look at what happened in this area around that time, I become convinced that Nigeria`s problem is deeper than some tribalists tend to portray it. Before this location tussle about Sagamu, Akarigbo was called Akarigbo of Ijebu Remo. As a result of what happened between them, the people of Sagamu and Ijebu Remo removed Ijebu from their title and call their Oba Akarigbo of Remoland and it has remained so till today This is far from the truth and its not tenable. Was the panel reporting to the Awujale or do they need his approval? Does the Awujale exercise any constitutional power over the panel and the head of state? What would have happened if the state was created and Shagamu made the capital? What happened when Osun State was created and Oshogbo made the capital over Ife where the all-influential Ooni Sijuwade was reigning? Truth of the matter is Obasanjo of that time would never allow any Ijebu town be made capital over his beloved Abeokuta otherwise the Obasanjo we know would have gone ahead with the panel's ''supposed'' recommendation. |

Adesiji77: IMHO, this battle for supremacy is completely unnecessary.
I saw the following interesting comments on Punch in reaction to the story. Historians, what do you have to say? Cc: Ishilove
Comment 1 "Our Obas should not allow their ego to becloud their sense of history. No Oba today in Yoruba land should cling to any claim of superiority in the light of the erosion of the power they used to wield, to the extent that none of them can travel outside their domains without the Chairman of the local government where their palace is situated knowing. Awujale's statement describing the Alake as a junior king in Yoruba land cannot be supported by any historical record, written or verbal. The fight for supremacy among Yoruba Obas did not start today. The Akarigbo of Ijebu Remo once complained against the wearing of crown by the Elepe. To resolve this problem, the then Governor of Nigeria Sir William MacGregor, invited the Oni to Lagos in 1903 to give his ruling. The Oni listed twenty one kings as having the right to wear crown with beaded fringes. Though not necessarily in order of seniority, Alake of Abeokuta was number one on the list. None of the Obas which Awujale claims to be Alake's contemporary was on that list. The then Awujale did not object to the ruling by the Oni then, and the current Awujale cannot claim ignorance of this important historical ruling. That 1903 visit to Lagos by the Oni marked the first time an Oni would travel outside his domain. On his departure people were weeping and all Yoruba kings stayed outside their palaces until the Oni returned. The Alake was the first Yoruba king to travel abroad (England), first in 1904 and again in 1937 before other kings started traveling abroad. It used to be a taboo for Yoruba Obas to meet face to face until 1925 when the Prince of Wales visited Nigeria and the Obas met for the first time in Ibadan."
Comment 2 "Kabiyesi Awujale completely distorted the beautiful history of Egba people he deliberately did for no good reasons and such could lead to disharmony between the Egba and Ijebu who have been living peacefully for many years in and outside Ogun state. Egba people first gained independence from Oyo when they waged war on tax collections called ISAKOLE against Oyo army and defeated them but Ijebu and Yoruba towns still remained under direct rule of Oyo by then.
The Ake people were the first settlers in Abeokuta from Orile Egba followed by Okeona, Gbagura and Owu who came after the fall of Owu orile during the war between them and Oyo in which Egba soldiers were there to support Owu against Oyo. While some liberated Owu people followed Sodeke to live with Egba in Abeokuta others relocated to other Villages in Oyo, Ijesha and Ijebu lands, hence, there are many Owu towns in present Oyo, Osun and Ogun states, so it is very wrong and not correct to say that Egba met any other people in other three major sections in Abeokuta.
I believe many notable Egba historians will react to the report soon. E MA D'ENA D'EGBA O, IGBA ERANKO KI D'ENA D'EKUN, EKUN BABA ERANKO!!!"
Comment 3 "there was nothing like an egba traditional ruler when the egbas left orile egba and migrated to ABEOKUTA neither do they have a crowned king.Lisabi, Lawarikan and Sodeke were great warriors that won several wars within the Yoruba arena including dahomey war.If all regarded as the leaders,if nowhere else go to Sodeke;s palace in ABEOKUTA and let he family enlighten you, were leaders of the Egba,s and it was Sodeke that eventually settled the Egba's in their present abode,he was supposed to be crowned the very first King of the Egbas but was poisoned when he accepted christianity into Nigeria as opposed to traditional way of worshiping and died in 1847 January 17th.I could take you through history but i have limited time today." Three things: i. From your narration, one can deduce that the Alake stool was established in the 19th century. ii. The Awujale stool predated the 16th century and probably about 400 years older than the Alake. iii. Why then do you think the Alake should be ranked ahead of the Awujale. Is it because the Alake was the first Oba to travelled to Europe? |

What I and everybody have been reading online and offline is how yunusa the Muslim boy from the north "kidnapped/abducted" the innocent young christian bayelsa girl called ese from the south. Then I asked you, if this is not disrespect to yunusa's person then what is it? Yunusa has outrightly said he never abducted ESE rather she was the one that willingly followed him to kano. The girl is 14 as you all want everybody to believe. Then why are you not calling for the heads of ese's parents who failed to tell their 14yrs old child that it is very wrong to elope with boys to wherever?
Look young man, nobody is a fool and nobody believed the facade that ese's mother told journalists. Like I outrightly said. If you guys think nobody will stand up and speak/fight for yunusa, then you guys must be joking So a 14 year old girl can willingly decide to run away with a 25 year old man. And the 25 year old man did not deem it fit to inform her parents. He too willingly took her away and still did not find a way of contacting the parents seeking their consent before going ahead to impregnate her. That is criminal and definitely not the way of Islam. |

Also I like how you guys are always conveniently comparing official rates during the Jonathan administration to the black market rates when talking about Buhari administration.
Back to madam Regina. This woman has been out of Nigeria working as a nurse for years. If things were good in Nigeria before now, why was she there? She said she agrees he's fighting corruption although unpopular, please can you ask her who it's unpopular among? Me and those I know are happy about it. The way some of you guys came here and boasted Buhari could never get enough votes because of the people around you is the same way some people think the anti-corruption fight is unpopular because of the people around them. We voted Buhari to fight insurgency, he's doing that. Boko Haram is no longer holding territories, roads that have been shut down for years are being reopened. Boko Haram is no longer attacking army barracks and making away with tanks and weapons. Even the hard to control bomb blasts have reduced significantly. The recently kidnapped girls are being rescued. You're a conman/woman and a liar if you feel all the evil we've been living with in Nigeria for decades will disappear in less than a year. The economy is in a bad shape and we can argue all day how we got here but I know things will get better soon with the passing of the budget. At least that'll act as a stimulant while the core is being fixed.
If some people want to act like we haven't come far from where we were, some of us don't mind reminding them. God Bless you over and over and over. Some of us could be unimaginably irrational. Even in Voodoo and or magic parlance there is a process and there are steps within the process talk-less of righting the monumental wrongs that have been firmly entrenched in the fabrics of our society as if from time immemorial. Truth is, it will require longer than a four year term of sustained correctional efforts to rebuild this nation and we have a leader who is on course. We should all join hands to encourage him and ensure he doesnt get frustrated or compromised while at the same time, on our minds we should be shopping for his successor, somebody who would be as credible, resolute and patriotic like PMB because we like it or not, 4 years are not enough. |

How can a sane man "abduct" a supposed sane girl from beyelsa to kano without her full consent? Does it even make any sense? So yunusa forced the girl into a cab all the way from bayelsa to kano without facing any resistance from her or without anybody noticing? This is the very vital question the "holy ones" need to ask themselves You missed the point, the girl in question is a minor, she's just 14 years old living with her parents in Bayelsa, she's not a refuge found on the streets of Kano. For Yunusa to have taken her to Kano without the consent of her parents is a crime punishable in law.He should not be hidden under the guise of religion, he is a criminal and the law must take its due course. Perhaps you have evidence that the parents actually gave her out to Yunusa. |

Shymm3x: In what century did the Ooni of Ife annex Epe?
A lot of you just distort history for no reason. For the Ooni of Ife to annex Epe, he must have annexed Ijebu kingdom. And the fact that throughout history, Ife never had an army that could even defend Ife and Ijebu warriors were the ones who protected Ife throughout all its wars, is enough to show that you don't even know what you're talking about.
Ife never annexed any kingdom. Even if it tried, it never had the army to pull it off. How many times did Owu sack Ife? You are very right, the level of ignorance is some times nauseating, for example, how can you refer to the Ooni as His Imperial Majesty when in all history, Ife was never recorded as growing beyond the town to become an empire. Think it would be appropriate for the Alaafin to be referred to as His Imperial Majesty. Same vein, the Alake was quoted to have purported that the Ooni is first followed by Alaafin. Though this is enmeshed in history but what is particularly curious and laughable is that he went ahead to list the Alake as pre-eminent over the Awujale when Abeokuta was only recently founded in the 19th century whereas the Awujale stool predated the 16th century. |

Before we all get carried away by the CPC orders, think its better we reviewed critically the content and see if they could stand in the courts of law.
I agree with most of the pronouncements but i found two of them not realistic and they are;
i. DSTV to make available to lower bouquet all sports channels hitherto exclusive to the premium bouquet. It shows CPC lacks full understanding of pricing strategy. The order is arbitrary and may not hold in any law court. CPC may as well order Blackberry to make available all functions and features on its Porsche to the Curve model.
ii. All free to air channels on DSTV must remain open even after expiration of the subscription. I would really have loved this but from commercial point of view i know it may not be possible because the free to air channels are being received via an implement (decoder) provided by DSTV which attracts a fee. Perhaps, CPC may have advised DSTV to evolve a way of exacting a token for these before subscription renewal.
The bottom-line is, this is an open market and there are competition. Arbitrariness will not do us any good at the long run. Why cant we have a local brand good enough to make DSTV run for its money. HiTV was going to do that until they committed suicide. Daarsat is a joke, ACTV is neither here nor there. DSTV will continue the monopoly until there is credible competition. Remember, it took Glo to start per seconds billing before MTN, that had stated categorically that it was not possible, was now forced by competition to adopt it
Aint nothing like the real thing, like they used to say. As it is in Nigeria today, DSTV is the real thing and it may be so sad and unfortunate, but we have to live with it. |

All i know is that ability to prophesy albeit, rightly, does not confer a special status on any man, pastor, imam, bishop or babalawo. Before God, it does not really count. Your volition is much more important. But if you have the gift of prophesy or you acquired it, you have the unenviable task to comprehend what you saw, hear, or see and relay it accurately to your targets otherwise, you are adding more burden to your sins.
I know that Pastor Adeboye over the years has not positioned himself, and was not perceived largely as some prophets that rolls out predictions every new year day. Not sure he wanted to play in the league of the late Prophet Adewole of the CCC or Prophet Olabayo of Yahweh Evangelical Mission. His forte has always been spiritual and moral impartation, leading his flock back to God.
And then, i also know that Pastor Adeboye through hardwork and God's Grace has carved out a niche for himself as a pastor who lives an exemplary life. He lives above board and hardly can you remember his involvement in any scandal unlike his other mates. Also unlike his other mates, RCCG is not his family property. He took over the mantle of leadership at a crucial time and he built the church almost from ground zero to the phenomenon it is today.
More importantly, i know that Pastor Adeboye with his sterling qualities is a mere mortal. He cannot be perfect. But rather than using the PHD (Pull Him Down) syndrome in order to cast aspersion on him or attempt to demystify him, especially where we are largely ignorant about the subject matter, we should apply wisdom in bringing to his notice, his deficiencies.
I am not a member of RCCG, but i can say confidently that Pastor Enoch Adeboye is a man of God. |

snailspeed: I have been following the so called Dasukigate and I am amazed how easy it is for a government to use the media to deceive and distract the ignorant masses. History has shown that propaganda remains the biggest tool of any government that intends to enslave a people. Unfortnately, even the current opposition has been quite incompetent in putting the records straight
For the records, there is nothing like a $2.1B arms money. It was a propaganda masterstroke well concotted by the DSS and EFCC to distract everyone from the incompetence of the Buhari administration. That is why former president Goodluck Jonathan has come out twice now to put the records staright that he never approved any $2.1B arms money. But it seems the ignorant masses still dont get it. So where did the "$2.1B arms money" headline originate from?
$2.1B was the monies that was allocated to the office of the NSA throughout Dasuki's tenure as NSA. These monies come under SECURITY VOTE. It was not money allocated to the purchase of weapons as the DSS and the EFCC have claimed. That is why they cant take Dasuki to court. They will lose woefully. Security vote is not money allocated for arms purchase. Of the whole monies that make up the $2.1B, only the $300 million from the returned Abacha loot was actually recommended for the purchase of arms. That is why in court, the charges brought against Dasuki was in that range. But they are likely going to lose in court for that because weapons were actually purchased. Whether they are worth $300 million is what the EFCC will have to prove in court. But from the way they have been refusing to follow the court process, one is safe to assume that they dont trust their own case against Dasuki.
But why did they go with the headlines of "$2.1 Billion arms purchase money" when they knew it was not the case? Because the whole anti coruption fight was only a propaganda stunt from the beginning. It was a well crafted stunt to distract the masses and persecute any dissenting voice so Buhari can fully consolidate power. Does that mean I think many of the politicians mentioned in the scandal are clean? By no means! Nigerian politicians are corrupt without a doubt including the presidency and everyone in the rulling APC party. The president's campaign itself was sponsored from corruption. The Amaechi corruption scandals are well documented with very strong evidence.
If Dasuki has stolen any funds, he should be prosecuted accordingly, but the media propaganda and charade has got to stop. Media trial is injustice in itself. I find it really deceitful when I see lines like "what will you tell the Nigerian soldiers that didnt have weapons to fight and were killed because Dasuki shared the arms money". That is nothing but propaganda and trying to appeal to sentiments to push a narrative. If that were the case, what has the same military been using to fight BH in the last 8 months since Buhari has not bought any new weapons? What weapons did the army use to push back BH prior to the 2015 elections? Did they push BH back with their bare hands too? Even Lie Mohammed claims BH has been defeated. With which weapons did the army defeat BH? With their bare hands?
It is important we put all these straight so we dont fall for cheap propoaganda by a government that has completely lost its way. The same government that claims they are fighting corruption came out with a terrible corruption laden budget where they intended to connect cables from the President's residence to the drivers residence with N300 million. In fact, the budget of yams was so laden with coruption that they had to shamelessly withdraw it.
The world has changed. If the current government thinks they will continue to rule with propaganda, they should think again because they will be exposed again and again. Thank God for social media and the Internet! So funds allocated to the office of the NSA can be shared among friends, cronies, families, associates, allies etc in a jamboree. |

NANS, misguided youths since the turn of the nineties!
The ease with which majority of Nairalanders spew out insults and abuses, use vulgar languages, display bigotism, demonstrate gutter upbringing...... One is being forced to think the Social Media Bill was necessary afterall. |

Yes now, Buhari needed Tompolo to join the APC so as to appoint him as the Chief of Naval Staff in view of his dexterity at guerrilla warfare in the creeks and the efficient manner he's been managing the multi-million dollar pipeline surveillance contract. He'd surely make an outstanding Naval Chief........People Being Absent Minded since 1900 |
