Regarding the report, the simple summary is that Nigeria isn't ripe for a democracy. We really should stop deceiving ourselves.

Thd calmness of the people in the room when the rain of gunfire started is unbelievable. Rivers is such a useless state full of criminals and thugs (apologies to the sane Rivers people). How can one state just continue to carry political violence on their head like it's their birthright??... Other states leave the violence till elections, Rivers does theirs all through the 4 years.

Just imagine what you just said.... What impact has these company have on the common man? At times I am surprised....so u fully support the sales of NNPC?
The person you quoted is very right, most of those companies on that list now function efficiently. Whilst they were still in the hands of the government, they were huge liabilities, of which every now and then, the government had to pump billions into them either to keep them afloat, or to pay off staff entitlements when the enterprises eventually and inevitably give up the ghost.

Did you just ask what impact a number of functional companies have on the common man?.... Are you for real?... The companies are now functioning, making profits, employing thousands of Nigerians, paying taxes to the government and generally contributing to the overall productivity index of Nigeria; as opposed to being dead beat liabilities to government. How else do you want the companies to positively impact on the common man?

Can you point out a single enterprise managed or operated by the NIgerian government which works?... The Nigerian government should never be allowed to operate anything.

I actually support the proposal to sell/privatise NNPC. If anything in Nigeria must work, the leprous hands of the government should NEVER be allowed to operate it.
PoliticsRe: Leaked Recording: We Left APC Because We Were Not Financially Rewarded - Saraki by obailala(m): 9:25pm On Nov 16, 2018
In Nigerian political and leadership parlance, the word "empower" means one thing - financial reward for political loyalty. Standard form of empowerment involves appointing to a cash cow agency or awarding huge contracts (regardless of the person's capacity). It's in this context you freely hear statements like "juicy appointments".

Nigeria can never change until leadership stops being 'lucrative.'

How can you present a link of some strange blog as evidence for an incredulous report?... Show me a video of Fashola making the statement, or better still, just show me a link to any sensible website which reported the nonsense.

Heck! So even if it is CNN that reports it or even if Fashola himself comes out to say that live on video, does that even make it realistic or believable to you? undecided... That a Nigerian FG fixed 20,000km of roads in 4 years? Does that make it a sensible/rational claim to you?.. or did you just have to swallow it cos it was GEJ?

Can you point out where these 20,000km repaired roads are?... Because I'm sure you will still insist.

At the last check:
East-West road which is the most important in the SS, saw insignificant progress since 2006 till date;
Onitsha - Enugu = mess
Enugu - PH roads = mess.
PH - Owerri = eyesore and death trap (except for the Elele - 'Welcome to Imo' stretch which was built by Amaechi with that same ECA fund which he collected.
Owerri - Aba road = still a single lane death trap.
Aba - Ikot Ekpene = trash,
Owerri - Umuahia = trash,
Owerri Okigwe road = merry go round.
Oba - Nnewi - Okigwe road = forest / gully
Uyo - Calabar trip = nightmare
Lagos - Ibadan = insignificant progress to date
Benin - Sagamu = a section of less than 50km was fixed with excess fanfair, tape cutting, canopies, champagne etc. Remaining 200km of the road still a merry go round ride.
Benin - Auchi - Okene dualisation = less than 1km cleared and laterite poured on it for over 4 years. Etc etc etc.

All the major roads in the southern part of Nigeria, still have major issues, so my brother, where in earth are those 20,000km of good roads located since you insist on gullibky believing trash? Anyway, maybe GEJ built all these roads only in Abuja and the north up to Chad and Niger; I havent been to the northsince 2009 so I cant say.

JONATHAN CONSTRUCTED MORE ROADS THAN ANY OTHER NIGERIAN PRESIDENT – FASHOLA
written by Our Reporter December 9, 2015
UMOBILE_600X90B
Babatunde Raji Fashola , Nigeria’s Minister for Power, Works and Housing on Tuesday while unveiling his plans praised the achievements of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Fashola during his first news conference tagged “Setting the Agenda for Delivering Change” said that Goodluck Jonathan has constructed more roads than any president ever in Nigeria.

He also acknowledged that the Transformation in the power sector is above 50 % and that he would try to build on it.

Minister of State for Works, Adebayo Adeyeye, also said that Jonathan’s administration has recorded more success in the provision of motorable roads than any other administration in the history of Nigeria.

Adeyeye, who spoke as a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Monday, insisted that the Jonathan administration has made considerable progress in the road sector, more than any of the governments that have administered the country.
According to him, the administration in 2011 had about 4,500 kilometres of fairly motorable roads, just as he explained that today the administration has about 25,000 kilometres of very good roads.
How in God's earth do we still have people who believe and share this nonsensical election campaign bare faced lie and lame propaganda?... Oga it is 2018 and you still believe this rubbish?... that between 2011 and 2015, Nigeria fixed or rehabilitated over 20,000km of roads?... and you also believe that Fashola is the one who said or endorsed this?

How many kilometres of roads does Nigeria have in total?... 25000km of roads will stretch from Lagos to London and back 5 times. And you believe a Nigerian government fixed that amount in 4 years?... That amount was fixed and not a single major road in the entire SE or important roads like the East-West road were included?.... Were all those roads built in the moon or in the coven?.... Jonathanians, I hail!!! One really meets wonderful characters on this forum.

bigfish3k:
we have agreed to share and spend. why should the FG not spend hers if others are spending according to their rights.
FG spent hers according to law its rights

btw, its the spending by both parties (FG and states) that cuased the problem
37 people do a business and receive returns. The boss owns 52% of the total profits while the remaining 36 partners collectively own the remaining 48%.

The boss decides to hold back and save everyone's share, i.e. 100% of the proceeds. The full 36 partners (except for 1 or 2) begin to rant and rant and ask the boss to release their respective shares of the profits. The boss remains adamant, refusing to release the money.

And then one day, the 36 partners realise that the boss is actually spending from the money he claims he wants to save for everyone. The agitation therefore reaches a peak; and since the boss realises he had lost the moral right to still withhold the funds (especially after being caught spending from it), the boss agrees to give the remaining 36 partners theirs.

Out of the 36 partners, over 28 of them, including the boss (who retained 52% of the total fund) squander their shares in wild living and phantom projects. And then there was a drought and over 28 partners couodnt even pay their staff.

@bigfish3k
Common sense tells me that if that boss really had any will to save, giving the partners their money can never be an excuse or justification to also squander his share, especially seeing that he's incharge of the overall economy and controls a massive share. I wonder how people defend these sort of things.

supreme court gave order that the money should be shared. shikeena
and GEJ obeyed
I'm not doubting you, I only said I don't remember reading anywhere where the supreme court gave a ruling on the ECA matter. So please if you can point me in the right direction, just post any link to the effect that the supreme court gave a ruling.

By the way, the above is even inconsequential; the state and local governments only had 48% of the funds and it was their money and their right to decide what to do with their share. Even the so called trio of APC governors which some people are fond of shifting all blame to collectively received less than 5% of the total ECA fund. So the big question still begging for answers is, why did the FG not save given that it legally still owned 52% of the funds?... Did the phantom supreme court order also force GEJ's FG to swallow its 52%?.. did the supreme court order also force the FG to deplete foreign reserves from over $42billion to $28.6 billion even at a time of excess oil revenue?

You didn't save a whooping 52% n u r crying that I should have saved 26%- does that appeal to simple common sense?

I tire with the way this folks reason!
NOI actually said the truth in one of her earlier international interviews that she cried bitterly about the need to save; but the 'government' at the time had no political will to save anything. After receiving severe backlash from PDP members over what they must have termed 'friendly fire', upon returning to Nigeria, she quickly swallowed her words and claimed she was referring to 'state governments' or state governors. That was the day I learnt that state governors were the ones in-charge of Nigeria's economy.

they took the FG to court and won

even if its only one APC governor that supported the sharing and won his case in a court of law against the other 35, it should be obeyed in a democracy

hope u are a proponent of rule of law
I'm not sure I understand what link your comment has with the my previous comment. Who's talking avout court order here?... Besides, governors also took the FG to court under OBJ and Yaradua but they kept battling the case till the end. GEJ's government only gave-in after it was caught dipping its hands into the cookie jar and depleting the funds without the knowledge of the governors..I dont remember the court giving any definitive ruling on that matter or asking the FG to release the funds.

Just to clarify, there were 36 governors at the time, and about 24 were from PDP. But any time the pdp wants to absolve itself from the blame of not saving for the rainy day when there was plenty, the overused excuse is always, "Amaechi, Fashola and Oshiomole were against saving"; this time they were graceful enough to have added Akpabio's name in the mix (obviously because Akpabio is now APc). So my question is, what sort of lame and politically childish excuse is that? Out of 36 governors, they just single out 3 APC governors?... Were the remaining governors robots or zombies that didnt have an opinion?...

By the way, the money belonged to the states, so if states refused to save their own money, is that the reason the FG would also not save especially considering that the FG had the lion share (52%) and was in charge of the overall economy?

Thumbs up OP, thanks for the enlightenment.
OP's post isn't wrong (cos fuel dump also creates white trails), but it's very misleading. That is because 90% of the times you see those white trails, it's actually contrails and not fuel dumping; fuel dumping happens only very rarely.

White clouds behind airplanes aren't fuel, don't let the OP mislead you.

Those white streaks planes leave behind are actually artificial clouds. They're called contrails, which is a shortened version of the phrase “condensation trail." Airplane engines produce exhaust, just like car engines do. As hot exhaust gases escape from a plane, the water vapor in the fumes hits the air.

The way politics erodes common sense can be amusing at times. Isn't it wonderful how out of 36 governors, of which up to 24 were even from PDP, it's just 3 APC governors that had interest in sharing the money and the remaining 33 governors were in support of saving. And these 3 'powerful' governors after influencing their remaining 33 colleagues, they even also influenced the NOI and GEJ's FG to also not save the FG's lion share (52%) of the money. Wonderful narrative !
