enoconcernme: For the sake of prosperity please can you send us links of the so called miscreants harassing people in the past? At this age and time documentation is necessary.
Secondly you shouldn't blame people that were 'boiling' over the report, for one the report was not explicit in terms of why the police is putting out the warning and that in itself opens it to different interpretation by all parties.
In addition, most Nigerian have apathy towards the police and that comes into play when judging the intentions of any police officer in Nigeria.
Please don't forget the source I asked for, thanks in advance. What links or evidence do you want?... My source is directly from friends and relatives residing at Aba; do you want me to give you phone numbers?.... You can also call those you know to verify whether or not massob of old or the current ipob harrasses anyone. Do you really need special education or evidence to know that whenever things like this happen in Nigeria, miscreants always take advantage of the opportunity to harrass and even rob people? This isnt even restricted to ipob or the SE. Meanwhile does it make any sense to you that the police would go about arresting people sitting in their houses?... Of course the warning is meant strictly for those who take laws into their hands to intimidate members of the public who choose to open their shops on such days. |

gidgiddy: This is the Lagos/Ibadan expressway media narrative of why people comply with IPOB sit at home. Unfortunately, this narrative falls flat on its face when one asks a simple question. Why would a majority be scared of a minority? Why would millions of people in several states be afraid of a few unarmed "miscreants"? How can 75% of the people be afraid of the other 25%?
It makes no sense whatsoever that millions of people can be scared of a few unarmed people.
The truth is that most of the people are standing behind IPOB Sensible people do things for the sake of peace; not every situation deserves a confrontation or a fight. If I hear or know some miscreants will take advantage of a 'sit at home order' to forment trouble on the streets, as a sensible person, I will sit at home and also ensure I keep even my kids out of school since it's just for a day. That's what sensible people do, it has nothing to do with a measure of strength. So your 75% vs 25% analogy is flat on the ground and pointless. If for instance you hear that 2 raving lunatics with knives and bottles are on rampage at a nearby junction, that info is enough to keep thousands of people away from that spot. So does it necessarily mean that 2 people are greater than a thousand?... #CommonSense |

Somebody please explain to me when sitting at home became a crime Read through the tjread and you will get your answer... let me help you eith the post below: Yyeske: The problem here is that most people lack comprehension of simple English. The police is not after anyone who wants to sit at home for 24 hours, a week, a month or a year or more but only after those who might want to prevent others from going about their lawful businesses. We've had several sit-at-homes here but when and where have you heard that the police went about arresting people in their houses because they decided not to go out? |

Kahujadekadura: . Since over 75% do so out of coercion then let referendum speaks for them. There is a laid down civilised process to get a referendum without disturbing piblic order; it starts with converting ipob into a political party and winning critical mass in parliament to drive home the point. That's how a referendum was gotten in civilised societies like Scotland and Catalonia (which certain ipob elements always cite as examples), and that was the reason an educated Ojukwu formed APGA. A referendum isn't gotten by using miscreants, criminal and street urchins to go about harassing uninterested members of the public to comply with some autocratic orders as is always the case with massob and ipob. The police has simply warned that if you do that (i.e. disrupting law and order and harassing people), you will be arrested and dealt with. I see a lot of people on this thread losing sleep over the warning of the police; do you mean to tell me that even these supposedly educated ipob members on this forum are also in support of the public disorder perpetrated by miscreants within your ranks? |

marvinsync: are these "miscreants" ipob?
like u said they existed even b4 ipob
if miscreants are causing trouble then the police should go after this miscreants and stop harassing ipob or threatening to arrest ... who? ipob or the people that stay at home ? I'm not even sure anymore IPOB gives a sit at home order,, miscreants go into markets harassing traders who dont comply with the order, but here you are, asking me if these miscreants/enforcers are IPOb members?... No they are fulani herdsmen. Meanwhile, the message by the police did not say they were going to arrest anyone sitting at home; the message is obviously directed at the miscreants who would typically be out on the streets harrassing innocent law abiding citizens. It's a recurring trend which predates even ipob. akelicious: The Police Command in Imo State has vowed to arrest anybody breaking the law in compliance with the sit-at-home ordered by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra on Friday..... [http://www.akelicious.net/2018/09/sit-at-home-order-police-speak-vow-to.html[/b] The original report above clearly indicates that the warning is targeted at criminals bent on breaking the law. But obviously because of hatred for government, majority of people on this thread seems to have lost basic comprehension skills and are now in solidarity with the miscreants. |

marvinsync: ? sabos? wtf r u saying?
since when has ipob intimidated anyone to stay at home ? or when has it become by force?
u just making forced arguments to support ur stupid lifeless beliefs In places like Aba, miscreants forcefully enforce these ipob orders. During sit at home orders, they harass traders who dont comply; this isnt even a new trend, it's been been happening as far back as the days of massob even before ipob was formed. If you aren't aware of this, you should go and find out instead of insulting people out of ignorance. |

erico2k2: Did you read the part where it says people should disregard the other to sit at home?Does it not sound like a Joke? Over 75% of the people who obey these sit at home orders dont necessarily do so out of solidarity; rather they obey the orders out of fear of being harrassed by miscreants if they go out.. By asking people to "disrgard the sit at home" order, the police is simply saying people should not be scared of going about their normal businesses. How is that statement a joke? |

Nigeria has just survived an economic shock following the recent oil price slump and the recession and thw economy can only go in one direction presently (i.e. upwards). Several critical economy boosting infrastructures from power stations to railways to refineries are at advanced stages. A fact is that anyone (even PMB) who gets to power in 2019 would have it smooth with the economy; most especially when projects like the Dangote mega refinery and other modular refineries are brought on stream.
Whoever wins the presidency in 2019 would be a lucky chap, and would take all the glory. |

4Play: The IMF does not provide loans for infrastructure spending. IMF lending is to deal with emergency situations where a country is facing a balance of payments crisis and needs an infusion of foreign currency. These Chinese loans are not a substitute or alternative to IMF loans. The proper comparison would be with World Bank loans. Thanks for the clarification. |
Politics › Re: Chinese Loans: Oby Ezekwesili Reacts On Twitter But Got This by obailala(m): 8:44am On Sep 07, 2018 |
stankezzy: You can't compare chinese loans to western loan , Chinese loan is a welly packaged poison, forget about interest and enforcement , think about when u default or unable to pay , the west do nothing, they even have what they call debt relief or debt forgiveness which nigeria have benefited in during obasanjos time but chinese if u are unable to pay they take over your country, no mercy, go and ask Argentina, Philippines, costarica , Zimbabwe just to mention few , do u know that change of government in Zimbabwe was ordered by the Chinese , please don't drink a beautifully packaged poison, everything in this country must not be politics even when one is right Why exactly should a person take a loan with the intention of not being able to payback?.... Why should a country take a loan with a preset mindset focused on debt relief in future?...Nothing ever goes for nothing! Not even the western loans are free; dont be swayed by the so called debt relief. Those western loans are still recouped through the backdoor indirectly through free access to resources and through kleptomaniac African leaders who still roundtrip the funds back. Going by the experiences of African countries in the last decades with western loans, I think these Chinese loans are better as long as African leaders sit up, remain focused and learn to payback. If not for anything else, the Chinese arent giving physical cash to leaders, we can all see the physical infrastructure being financed by the loans. |
Politics › Re: Chinese Loans: Oby Ezekwesili Reacts On Twitter But Got This by obailala(m): 8:27am On Sep 07, 2018 |
SarcasticGenius: I'm sorry but both the young man and his supporters are missing the point entirely. IMF loans at interest rates of 0.75 with conditionalities of cutting down overbloated bureaucracy is much better than the Chinese loan of 3% interest rate with absolutely no strings attached.
Mr Somoye and his boot lickers also overlooked the fact that one of the key conditionalities of IMF loans is that you must account for how you spend it otherwise they won't give you anymore loans.
The Chinese are giving loans WITHOUT ANY CONDITIONS to our leaders and instead of being worried about this flagrant disregard for public accountability we are busy rubbishing the only person in the country who is speaking the truth.
You guys will suffer in the long run, mark my words.
The Chinese are giving your government loans WITH ABSOLUTELY NO CONDITIONS. A government that has no track record of accounting for how it spends money. That means that even if the money is embezzled, the Chinese don't give a hoot as long as they have laid a trap for you and enslaved you as a perpetual debtor. You should be weeping, but instead you are shining your teeth like village illiterates. A reality check is coming.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dmafl8VW0AEU0q0.jpg I think one point I've gathered from this argument is this; the Chinese give infrastructure and not money, and that already nullifies your argument. You claim the IMF gives money and monitors what it's used for but the Chinese give without condition?... With all the IMF loans Nigeria and other African countries have received over the decades, how come we still struggle to point out the location of infrastructure these loans were used for?... Whereas on the other hand, the Chinese build infrastructure directly without handing cash over to our kleptomaniac leaders; in Nigeria today we can point out the functional Abuja to Kaduna rail, the Lagos to Ibadan rail, the negotiations for Mambilla are ongoing etc. After so many decades of enriching klepto leaders who in turn return the stolen funds to western banks, it's amusing that we still have Nigerians who still BELIEVE the IMF actually cares about how the loans they give to Africa are spent. |

What about your own mother and other women in your family? Are you all paralised or deaf or dumb that you cannot go and protest for the release of Leah? Is it a crime if you and your own family members go and protest? Must you all sit behind keyboards and wait for 1 person (madam Oby) to do everything for you? |

They will exploit our natural resources, use skilled labourers from China and use unskilled labourers from Nigeria, who they will maltreat and our labour law cannot defend.
The project is actually a welcomed development but out leaders have to be smart in such bilateral ties/agreement to avoid becoming economic slaves to China. You're very right about this, the only reason these deals usually end up being detrimental to Africa is cos we have lousy leaders. Besides even negotiating a good deal at the start, its very possible to still payback these loans in record time and avoid undue interest payments because these are capital projects that should actually generate great income. But once again, the lousiness of leaders who prefer political welfarism, would turn these projects to liabilities instead of income creating assets. |
