Nigerians can easily pass as some of the most bitter, judgmental, hypocritical witches and wizards on the planet... |
omenka:Omenka you actually believe Ipob members or ESN, whatever they call themselves, would just go into a fulani community in Anambra and slaughter 6 children? |
These people are really idiots. Bandits, bokoharam terrorist, armed herdsmen militia and all manner of heavily armed insurgent are ravaging the north and various parts of the country, unleashing mayhem, genocide and all manner of terrorism; but the stupid government and military choose to prioritise a group of people who haven't harmed anyone? |
magicminister:So because I have a different opinion from you, it automatically makes me 'ignorant', 'happily stupid' and in need of education? And you think you're normal upstairs for reasoning like this? You think insulting strangers online makes you sound smart? I just feel deeply sorry for your parents who birthed a retarrded idiot. |
'66 year old grandmother becomes head of WTO' Am I the only one who doesn't exactly find anything offensive about the statement? People are just too insecure and sensitive. |
adeolakemi:Meaning? |
Ykc2:$1 = N1, what does that have to do with the oil price and fuel price we're talking about?... Like I said before, your brain needs dusting, not buharis ass.. ezi ohia! |
Ykc2:So explaining that oil price dropping to $10 will cripple the economy and not necessarily reduce fuel price, that automatically means I'm wiping Buhari's ass? That's the best your brain could pick from that explanation?.. Wonderful! What actually needs wiping is the dust in your brain; our educational system indeed needs an urgent overhaul. |
Racoon:Not sure of the link between this your response and what I said. Someone prayed for oil price to drop to $10 so pump price can be cheap. I simply advised the person to be wary of what they pray for cos a drop in oil price will cripple the economy in so many ways that pump price would be the least of our worries. Meanwhile, you talked about govt fixing refineries - I personally dont want govt to spend a dime fixing any damn refinery cos the inherent Nigerian corruption would never let those refineries work; I prefer that the govt sells off the refineries. But then, the govt is currently following a good approach to solve our age long refining problem; i.e. providing licences and giving all the juicy incentives (forex, loans etc.) to private establishments to build refineries. Currently there are between 5-10 refineries under construction which would end our 3 decades long refining palaver. I prefer this approach to govt spending money on TAm. |
Joysticks:Huh? So explaining the dangers of oil price dropping to $10 automatically means I'm in govt stealing money?.... Our educational system in Nigeria really needs urgent attention... tueh!! |
Bornu1stSon:If oil drops to $10 as you pray, the forex scarcity the country would face would be unprecedented. When that excruciating forex crisis comes, Naira will drop to N1000/$ and that would in turn increase the cost of importing fuel. In effect, pump price will still rise. |
An expected effect of subsidy removal... |
jaxxy:Dangote isnt doing just you or me a favour, he's actually doing the entire Nigeria a favour, taking over the responsibility of government which succesive administrations since 1999 have failed to fulfil. And of course, he's going to cash out massively from this favour so in essence, he's also doing himself a favour; it's definitely a win-win situation for everyone. You asked what the benefits of his refinery are to you and to the rest of Nigerians. Firstly, just like any other industrial establishment, the benefits are simple; massive employment, more revenue to govt through taxes etc. And of course, the icing of the cake, forex savings. Today the Naira exchanges for ~N500/$. As a helplessly import dependent country, do you know how badly that rate affects productivity and standard of living? The exchange rate is rising cos our thirst for importation keeps rising and there isnt a commensurate rise in the inflow of forex (thanks to recent oil price trends, covid etc). Do you know that Nigeria spends almost 50% of its forex importing petroleum products? If Dangote refinery comes into full operation and we stop importing fuel (i.e. slashing Nigeria's forex outflow by up to 50%), do you know the effect rhat would have on the value of the naira and Nigeria's productivity index in general? Do you still think a fully operational Dangote refinery will only benefit Dangote? |
wman:Huh? Sycophant? Its a pity you're not clever enough to understand my point. Where did I advocate for N300 fuel or where did I support monopoly? For clever people reading this, I'm simply stating what is happening currently and what will inevitably happen in Nigeria when Dangote completes his refinery. I'm also pointing out why it's misplaced aggression to start hating on Dangote (a fellow citizen) for simply taking advantage of the successive failures of our useless leaders. Our anger should be against the useless leaders we elect. Governments have been issuing licenses to private firms to build refineries but they refused to buold any; governments have been collecting loans for to finance consumption, but not to build refineries. Now Dangote has taken a daring step to do what no govt could do, but what you advocate for is the splitting of Dangote's companies?... what exactlt do we call that? |
jaxxy:Yes I absolutely wish the country well, that's why if I'm the president, I will ban all importation of petroleum products the moment Nigeria has suffcient refining capacity to meet local needs. It is not Dangote's fault that he is the only one building such a massive refinery to take over Nigeria's entire petrol supply; so why exactly are you angry with or hating him? Dangote isnt growing at the expense of others, he's growing because others are lagging behind 'willfully'. Since the days of OBJ, govt has been begging and begging and begging investors to build private refineries; private refining licenses have been issued over and over again to investors. But instead of building refineries, they rather used those licenses as an authorisation to go take loans and cheap FX from banks which they ended up using to import fuel and fraudulently claiming subsidy. Those are the people you hail but you now demonise Dangote for taking such a bold investment step which even successive governments are reluctant to take? |
lexy2014:Of course Dangote is a monopoly... I saw your conversation with the other guy and had to jump in. Yes Dangote is a monopoly, and he's the most successful monopoly cos he knows how to play the game better than all others. The typical argument is that "oh he gets favours from govt, that'swhy he's successful." But in my understanding, every single businessman out there wants to get these same undue favours from govt. So then the big question is, why is Dangote always the one who gets favoured by every single govt? North, East, West, South, Apc, PdP etc.. I think the answer to this question is that he's smarter and more daring than the others. |
lexy2014:Wherr were the other businessmen when Dangote was taking over every sector? |
jaxxy:What do you mean by "Dangote played us"? Is he your father or your president or govt that owes you a favour? He's a businessman and he's out there to make profits, lots of profit. Any anger regarding this development should be directed to our leaders. Reading comments and sentiments on this thread, the hate and bad belle against Dangote is real. Instead of fighting the leaders who refused to invest in basic amenities like this, we're busy fighting a hustling businessman who's breaking grounds and doing what others (including govts) are scared of. But I laugh, cos the hate hasn't even started. When his refinery starts and the govt finally stops all petrol imports, the real tears of blood and hatred will manifest when Dangote fixes pump price at N300. |
gimakon:Yeah but if the refinery starts working, it will massively improve Nigeria's economic fortunes. That's why no govt has been able to do it for over 30 years. |
gimakon:The same Nigeria you know. |
gimakon:If the refinery is completed and starts production, it will massively improve Nigeria's economy. |
chinjo:With or without buhari, if the refunery is completed and starts production, it will massively improve Nigeria's economy. |
Uniquisite:The refinery will not reduce fuel price, but it will massively improve Nigeria's economy, and nothing can stop that. |
FFK in APC?... this one weak me, hoo haa! |
Omihanifa:Some stretch marks are beautiful and sexy, and its attractiveness depends on the beholder. For example, I find the one in the picture you posted very beautiful. |
lexy2014:Are you serious about not knowing why pump price increases with crude price increase? or are you just trying to feign ignorance here? The explanation is all over the place, why dont you just google it? Aren't you aware Nigeria imports its petrol? Aren't you aware the cost of this imported refined petrol increases if crude prices (it's raw material) increase? When crude price increases, pump price can only be stable if the govt pays the difference (i.e. if govt subsidises) Are you not aware govt has stopped paying subsidies? So how exactly do you expect petrol price to be stable when crude price just increased and govt isn't paying the difference (i.e. subsidy)? |
Spectrum22:Crude oil price is increasing, how exactly did you expect price of petrol to be stable?... It's amazing that people dont still understand what subsidy means. |
What exactly do Nigerians expect when prices of crude goes up? |
puzzlegate:Oga, use your tongue and count your teeth; stop feigning ignorance on the reason Amaechi has opted to restrain his tongue on this. If you were in his position, you yourself wouldnt be silly enough to run to the media to run your mouth on certain issues. So stop acting surprised like you dont know the answer to these questions you ask. Amaechi isn't the only human in Nigeria that has a voice and he's said it clearly he isnt the best person to comment on certain issues. If anyone is angry Amaechi isn't commenting, what stops you from commenting? |
Reference:I said what I said because it simply is the truth. Those urging Amaechi to speak here are those who hate him and want to see him pulled down so they can revel at the downfall of one more of their enemies. But then, everyone has a right to love or hate whoever they want, so you're right. But remember, Amaechi isnt a foolish man; foolishness didnt get him to where he is today. The book of wisdom tells us there's a time for everything under the sun; a time to sleep and a time to rise... a time to speak and a time to be silent. Amaechi is an employee of the govt; you and I know that publicly attacking his boss would absolutely not even solve anything or have any positive impact whatsoever on the lingering herdsmen crisis. Rather it would only earn him political crucifixion. The man has simply refused to be as foolish as some people desperately want him to be so I understand the frustration. |
Sometimes these journalists just report absolute nonsense. One reading the title of this report would think N2.034tr was profit; several folks on the thread already confused by the report. |
cybarinem:...and of course he received back to back political and even physical attacks for that till he was literally pushed away into political oblivion. If not for the formation of APC in that period, he probably eould have been buried following those actions. But now you want the same man to play the same stunts when he's got no political backup plan?.... Such foolishness did not get him to the level he is in life today. |
