Foreign AffairsChina Steps Away From Russia, Finally Calling The Invasion Of Ukraine A ‘war’ by ogaontop(op): 12:15am On Mar 06, 2022
China is “extremely concerned” about the harm to civilians in Ukraine, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Ukrainian counterpart in a call, in the latest indication of Beijing’s desire to prevent the war’s further escalation.

Wang said the world’s second largest economy also “deplores the outbreak of conflict between Ukraine and Russia,” according to a statement posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. The remarks were published after a call between Wang and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the most senior exchange since Russia’s Vladimir Putin launched the invasion Thursday.

Wang also acknowledged the conflict was a “war,” rather than a “special military operation” as described by Russia. Kuleba said Ukraine was willing to strengthen communication with China and that it looked forward to China’s “mediation for the realization of the ceasefire,” according to the statement.
“This is a very important event and signals the very high attention that the Chinese government is paying to the Ukraine crisis,” said Henry Wang Huiyao, founder of the Center for China & Globalization policy research group in Beijing. “If both Ukraine and Russia invite China to be a mediator, then China would probably join.”

The war is testing Chinese President Xi Jinping’s commitment last month to a “no limits” relationship with Putin, as the U.S. and its allies pile on sanctions and press Beijing to take as stand against military aggression. In recent days, Xi has urged Putin to pursue negotiations and China’s United Nations ambassador abstained from, rather than opposing, a Security Council resolution condemning the attack.

The call between Wang Yi and Kuleba came as convoys of Russian military vehicles bore down on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and other major cities, prompting warnings that Moscow could unleash a mass bombardment on population centers.
Still, China has refrained from publicly calling for a ceasefire or describing the war as an “invasion,” and thus a violation of the UN-guaranteed sovereignty Beijing frequently vows to uphold. China hasn’t criticized Russia, and continues to voice support its security concerns and blame the U.S. for precipitating the crisis.

China boasts deep economic ties with Ukraine, and Wang Yi expressed concern over the safety of Chinese citizens there, estimated at 6,000 when the invasion began. Beijing’s support is seen as essential to Moscow’s efforts to weather international sanctions, which are cutting if off from huge swaths of the world’s trade, finance and travel.

Some 2,500 Chinese nationals have been relocated from Ukraine as of midday Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a regular press briefing in Beijing. He sidestepped a question on whether Xi would speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, saying only that Beijing’s communication links with Kyiv were open.
During the call, Wang Yi said China always upholds respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, and called on Ukraine and Russia to “find a solution to the issue through negotiations,” according to the statement. China supports all constructive international effort conducive to “political settlement,” he added.

“As the war continues to expand, the top priority is to ease the situation to prevent the conflict from escalating or even getting out of control, especially to prevent harm to civilians, and to ensure the safe and timely access of humanitarian aid,” the Chinese foreign minister said.

Russia cannot dictate if Ukraine (A sovereign country) joins NATO or not
What are they defending when they invaded and scattered another person's land
They should play better international politics and draw Ukraine closer if they don't want them to join NATO
Less than a week into the invasion, he's already going nuclear, that's a sure sign of weakness!

EducationRe: ASUU To Go On One-month Warning Strike by ogaontop(m): 9:43am On Feb 14, 2022
othermen:
ASUU knows that the federal university is probably the last hope of the common man; your education is actually subsidized!!

You see the amounts paid in private universities, that is the amount you will pay, if Federal school becomes self autonomous and then, federal government no longer has any responsibility as it relates to higher institutions.

Is it in lecturers interest, that federal government hands off? Yes, it is. That way, University lecturers salary will be sub-charged to students school fees, and school fees will simply just become affordable only for the rich. Only the rich will get an education.

That will be the fate of the common folks, the Parents and students struggling to even pay the little that is basically exam fee and registration fee.

You can check the agreement of ASUU with Federal government online if you are any diligent. ASUU’s primary want is that universities be funded, so that students can learn and be competent enough as their colleagues from private or foreign universities.

Lecturers welfare have actually never been on the forefront of the struggle and the truth is the average lecturer is been pushed to the wall, that they don't have a damn to give anymore about funding universities, they just want to be paid reasonable salary... But ASUU sees itself as the champion of common folks, and the common folks will stone and crucify ASUU in the end.

The issue is not that, ASUU makes new demands. The issue is the FG continues to renege on what they agreed to. So, they promise and they don't fulfil it.

It’s the school fees that our senator’s sons are paying abroad, that students will end up paying if they continue to be ignorant about ASUU’s struggle.

ASUU knows that the reason why some lecturers may resort to sorting and other malpractices is because their pay can’t even get them home, but yet members welfare is not foremost in ASUU’s demand.

You can check, a graduate assistant abroad is earning more than a professor in Nigeria. There is a continuous brain drain, our best minds are harvested by universities abroad. There is no motivation to have a career in teaching in Nigeria!!!

To access knowledge, you have to subscribe to journals, you have to do research, attend conferences… your most honest lecturers are poor folks, your honest professors can't do decent lives; to reach those stages of their career, they invested their paltry salaries in self development.

If you are a first class graduate in Engineering , that is why you would choose to work in a bank, than teach. Because your salary in a year as a lecturer, is the monthly salary of some bankers.

We attend congested classes, where you cannot really optimally learn, our laboratories are not equipped, our libraries are empty… we will never be equipped for the world, we will never pioneer any development, we will never be able to generate electricity by ourselves, or make toothpicks. Are we capable? Yes we are! Despite the situations of things, our lecturers are still coming up with patents and inventions that rust away in their dilapidated backyards, until they get it sold to China, who uses it to change the world, and become an economic and technology powerhouse.

Some of your lecturers don’t even want ASUU to make such demands in the interest of the people, because it’s in this decayed system, they have rooted themselves, but ASUU keeps on holding the line.
You're well informed!

i didnt say she should have waived anything for him. manner of approach is important. its very likely that she was condescending and rude hence the conversation led to the altercation. the whole excuse that nigerian lecturers are "overworked and stressed" hence it justifies their repulsive behaviour is unacceptable. they continuously use that refrain to continuously intimidate students. many nigerians are "overworked and stressed". there are many nigerian graduates earning 15k, 20k working as school teachers and putting in unbelieveable shifts without job security (which lecturers enjoy) yet they dont vent their anger on the school children committed to their care. how do u impact the lives of those u despise because u say u are "overworked and stressed"? it shows that these underpaid nigerians are much better than our lecturers who see themselves as gods.

You that you're reading this, I'm sure you can mention at least 5 lectures/teachers you wish you can Panel beat. Sentiments aside!
Lots of lecturers have made life a living hell for students.
There is more to this story and I don't think the boy will just randomly start beating the lecturer for no reason. This is a 400level student we are talking about. He must have been severely pushed to the wall before risking everything and then attacking the lecturer. He is a human after all and his emotions may have gotten the best of him, thereby making him overreact.
The case should be adequately heard and appropriately judged without bias, regardless of the parties involved.
But, the guy would definitely have to receive some sort of punishment for assaulting a staff and fighting on premises. He shouldn't have done that. From the way she was crying and shouting, you'll know the guy really did a number on her. The guy should have just continued to endure till he will get the certificate he came for and leave the school. It's not going to be easy, but it's the smart decision.
I'm sitting on the fence for the main time.
We need more details.
It's bad in it's entirety bro, no matter what her case might be.
All these kind of mentality is the reason mob action is on the rise in our society, I am not a lecturer but you should stand and condemn what is wrong, no sitting on the fence!!
Even when those below me, does wrong, I can never resort to this manner of senselessness you are promulgating
There are better proper ways, avenues and authorities to handle things!
That's why in developed countries and currently in many Nigerian private schools, you don't just beat up a child no matter what he does and you can't say we are better off than them because our teachers do beat us while growing up!

It’s not all the time we should criticize. Sometimes we need to use our head.

These redeployments are good and necessary.

Egbunike being from Anambra shouldn’t be heading a tactical team of security agencies to coordinate election security in Anambra. There’s no way he won’t have interest in who should win.

Again, if any of the political parties had succeeded in compromising either Egbunike or the AIG, then this is bad market because it will no longer work.

A lot can happen within 24 hrs but I don’t see the likelihood of the new head being compromised within 24 hours.

With all said and done, best wishes to Ndi Anambra!

There is no truth in what you said bro, how can you pay a graduate in Abuja or Lagos 120,000 naira a month and expect him to succeed on it, (and he is still expected to get married and have kids) let alone a Dr. that spent the long years in school with the rigours and stress of the profession
Even if you're not expecting the govt to pay what's obtained abroad, but what is being paid here is too small please, it should be improved!
Even the govt is barring them from working at private hospitals when they are with the govt.
