You've said all I wanna say. It's not good enough to just pen your lines on paper for all to see (how're we even sure you did not copy them from somewhere). I might sound harsh but I got no respect for so-called MCs who only pen their lines and don't spit 'em. Tell me how poetry, prose or even ghostwriting are supposed to be different from this? Of what use is your great-lyrics-but-written-only kind of rap when we have Shakespeare et al? I've read some really poorly constructed lines in the Rap Battle Thread (though with fine lyrics) that made my stomach turn. If it's all about lyrics only, I'd rather read what folks like Shakespeare write . . .

I don't care how good your lyrics are if I can only read and not hear them. And by "hearing" 'em, I mean they must sound pleasant to ma ears. Of what use is the beat if you cannot ride smoothly over it? I have a penchant for good lyrics but being a great lyricist ain't enough. Let's listen to your flows, your delivery, your rhythm.

Some artistes like Eminem and Biggie are not reverred for what they say but for how they say what they say. Tell me it's only lyrics that made stars out of Pac and Nas. Listen to Michael Jackson and tell me what you can make of his lyrics? Even poems ought to have a rhythm. How much more music? Have you ever listened to some nicely constructed poems being recited? It's like what a cold squashed drink does to a thirsty soul. And if it's Rap, forget it if you've got no rhythm. Artistes like Canibus as someone noted earlier are good on lyrics but he's not acclaimed cos his delivery is poor.

There's an artiste in Nigeria called Sage Hasson. He recites what he calls spoken words/poetry over beats. Great lyrics. But go cop his album, listen to it and come back to tell me he's a rapper . . .

The delivery of a message is as important as the message itself.

Music MUST NOT be lacking in refreshing lyrics though. I agree with the OP who said some Nigerian artistes just say rubbish. Zero lyrics and all rhythm is very disturbing and it's becoming the trend in Nigeria.

Abuja is a nice place based on statistics but could share of the same ranking with Calabar or even depreciate from Calabar's pedestal. Fortunately, i was opportune to visit Calabar last i visited Naija, 2008 xmas to be presides. I was convinced with what i saw and i'm planning to release my loads big time in Calabar. Oyo is also coming up. I'm not from any of those states but to be honest with you, Calabar is a nice place to relocate for those of us in diaspora.

Why do we criticize everything. Abi ooh, i was watching a video about Nigerianmade by an Ivory Coast girl. Nigerians criticized that girl for making a video and not showing the negativity aspect about Nigeria. I was like OMG
I went to another video about Nigeria by some Germany kid in youtube. Again, people criticized the poor boy for living in Nigeria, being white and having fun in Nigeria and also only showing positive pictures and not the negavite pictures about Nigeria in his video. Seriously, why do we criticize things so much that we even criticize other people that like our country.

Browsing some threads on this nairaland, it seems most naijas spend more time criticizing and competing with each other, than thinking of productive ways to make a difference. This trend is especially pronounced with the Yorubas and Igbos here, who are always engaged in a battle of the bulge aka my potbelly mercedes is bigger and better than yours.

other tribes spend quality time constructively analyzing the past as a way to build future progress. Not so most of the people I mentioned.

there is a yoruba proverb that says - if you are not speaking yoruba then you are not making any sense, and you have to speak it as loud as you can.

Now i know where the yoruba problem vegetates from. with the above post, there is every tendency that all yorubas are uncivilized and unpolished. can you imagine such proverb. i spent 8 whole years in lagos but i can't say come in yoruba lingo cos the very day i got to lagos and over heard the touts at bus stop shouting for passangers, i lost interest in that lango. Have you heard a Yoruba man or women communicating on phone? you don't expect any prophet before taking your leave. even in the market, church, buses, rear wheel stations etc, very disgusting. i think they should erase that lingo cos it irritating.

For ones girl, i suggest you listen to "KB1's" advise. that guy meant no harm from my own perspective. It wont be a shocking news that yoruba's has no age barrier as per engaging or as far as having kids with someone down in Nigeria before relocation to any country. It therefore amount to unbearable pressure from the bude's parent if he should divert his attention to someone else.


My humble advise to you is that if he wouldn't allow you to visit naija the same time with him, it therefore means rat is in the wardrobe, run! run!! run!!! period. It is very possible that he is really in love with you but no matter how racism the parents could be, your visit wouldn't complicate issues if he wasn't previously engaged with any girl in naija. let your mind lead you through. good luck

1) i suggest its right time we start by posting our various location and a close range to our postal address. by so doing, those leaving in the same location will have the chance to meet each other in person and at the same time interact.

2) a pressure group will be initiated in various location (countries) by nairaland members. gradually, agendas will be posted on nairaland for all members to discuss in their various location. at the same time, date and time will posted for all leaders or representative in various country to come on-line for conclusion. whereby we have our representative to relate our views from different countries. based on that, it won't be necessary hosting a new site. mean that the Rep., chairman, or leader of every group in various countries must be online at the appropriate date and time for the final discussion on the very agenda due to time frame and our various profession. this will limit our nepotism and i strongly believe that even if many others will come online same day and hour, haven noticed that we on an important agenda, they will indemnify their approach. I therefore suggest that everything should be done and discussed on nairaland post instead of opening whatever site. I facade hoodlums sourcing whom to scam if a private site is hosted on this issue.

I was looking at this matter from afar. now that i have gained some insight based on the true story as posted here, for old time sake, Etim wouldn't have gone that far. his logistics goes haphazardly, it therefore implies that the dude is enemy of progress. in all, the relationship wont be the same again after the final judgement.

to me the war succeessfully promoted corruption with the following points.
1. the major criminals during the obj's regime were his close friends and i will mention such names as adedibu, chris uba, andy uba, bode george, borrishade, tony annenih, atiku and odili to mention but a few. among the above mentioned persons, none was seen as corrupt by ribadu and as such they all walked tall till the end of obj's tenure.
2. looking at the states of our roads given the amount mentioned by obj as spent on contracts on these roads couple with the fact that no one till date answering questions on them, am afraid the war on corruption did not get to that sector.
3. power supply which was major part of the campeign promises of obj and the billions of dollars claimed by the best president of our time, ribadu shld have done more on that sector.
4. election - bush the much criticised american president was able to conduct an outstanding election/transition at the end of his tenure but what did we get from obj even with the ribadu screening of candidates? the worst and unimaginable movie in the name of selection.
5. oil sector - nigeria was lucky under obj with oil boom and high price of oil which was capable of changing the ecenomy but the end product was a renewed ottah farm and a bell university.
6. out of office - clinton, bush, mandela and other great politicians will give chance to their various countries after a long day at presidential villa but that was not our case. obj skillfully changed the constitution of pdp to make him the only being living or dead to be the chairman pdp board of trustees and thereby occupy a position through which he decides who does what and when. with the feable man in aso rock, obj indirectly pilots the affairs of the nation after failing in his third term bid.
7. ex-governors - the then gov of imo state in the person of achike udenwa was the first to endorse the third term agenda and today he is a minister of the federal republic of nigeria while the likes of orji uzo kalu who oposed the third term agenda paid the price of experiencing the wrath of ribadu who made us to understand that kalu is the most prominent criminal nigeria has ever seen. among the two outstanding states viz lagos and rivers, ribadu did not find them guilty of anything. odili was told by obj to drop his president ambition or face efcc.

i hope with these few points of mine, i have been able to convince and not to confuse u nairalanders that ribadu's war increased corruption under obj who himself represents corruption.
