A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja has slammed 25 million Naira damages on gossip blogger, Linda Ikeji for defaming Mrs Ajibola Ajayi.

In a release on its official Twitter page, the Law firm of Olaniwun Ajayi LP announced that its has successfully prosecuted the case against the controversial gossip merchant in suit number FCT/CV/667/2018: Mrs Ajibola Ajayi v. Linda Ikeji before an FCT Abuja High court.

In the court case, the Mrs Ajibola Ajayi had sued Ms. Linda Ikeji in respect of the defamatory article published in the latter’s blog, on 15.01.17 and 17.01.17 which cited Mrs. Ajibola Ajayi as having described protesting students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, as a “generation of mannerless children” in an Instagram post with the username “conceited_csj”.

Ajibola Ajayi is the daughter of late former governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi

In the judgment delivered on 12.04.2022, the Court held that the publication by Ms. Ikeji was false and malicious and that the evidence before the Court showed that the Defendant knew that the Instagram account with the username “conceited_csj” did not belong to the Claimant.

The Court further held that the publication was made available to readers worldwide which exposed the Claimant to ridicule by members of the public who read the offending article.

In reiterating the trite principle of law that libel is actionable per se, the Court awarded general and exemplary damages in the sum of N25,000,000.00 (Twenty-Five Million Naira) against Ms. Linda Ikeji and directed Ms. Ikeji to publish a written apology to the Claimant in three National tabloids.

A 25-Year-Old Businessman, Hassan Shehu, has been stabbed to death allegedly by his friend in Tudun-Fulani area of Bosso Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.

Spokesman of the State Police Command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday April 14.

“On 12/04/2022 at about 1700hrs a distress call was received that a male’s lifeless body was found at an apartment in Tudun-Fulani area of Bosso LGA," he stated.

"Police operatives attached to Bosso division were drafted to the scene and discovered the body. The victim was later identified as Hassan Shehu aged 25, a businessman at Kure market, Minna.

"Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was stabbed on the neck by one Bashir, his friend, who is presently at large.”

The PPRO further said the case was under investigation as effort was also being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

Meanwhile, friends have taken to Facebook to share photos of the fleeing suspect, Bashir.

According to one Kira Miraj King, the suspect lured the deceased to his house in Tudun Fulani under the guise of having gold jewelry for sale.

The younger brother of the deceased said that Bashir told the deceased to come with the sum of N5m but Hassan had only N3.5m.

On getting to the apartment, Bashir allegedly stabbed Hassan to death and fled with his car, two phones and the sum of N3.5m.

Nigerians have taken to Instagram to call out Nollywood actress, simply known as Adetoun, over a video she put up in the late hours of Wednesday, 13th or April, 2022.

The video, which was posted on her instagram account with username @justadetoun and captioned “NA MY MIND I TALK OOO, CHOOSE RIGHT…”captures Adetoun in a 4 minute rant in which she attempts to address Nigeria’s woes, implying that the nation ought to be divided while reiterating that the amalgamation of Nigeria was a scam. In her words, “If you look at the history of Nigeria, from the days of the northern and southern amalgamation, Nigeria is a scam. If you look at the president of Nigeria, and the situation going on in Nigeria, Nigeria is a scam.”

She then proceeded to talk about the presidential aspirants, touting the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom she called “my father” as the most suitable scammer to lead the nation come 2023.

“The devil we know is better than the angel we don’t know. It is better we deal with a scammer, than all these people we don’t know…let the chief scammer rule the country.”

In response, instagram user @janet_pegba wrote, “I am not even surprised, only a few of us know that you don’t have good intentions for this country, na anywhere belle face. It’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it, keep it to yourself.”

In a similar comment, @_yinkawilliams noted in disappointment “Your activism all along has been for pocket’s sake. Shameful!”
