Jobs/VacanciesRe: How Did You Get Your Present Job? by Ojady(m): 12:27am On Mar 13, 2016
I returned to Nigeria after a brilliant career in Europe, confident that if i could whoop the white man in his own country, i could do it ANYWHERE (deliberate avoidance of the word 'home'). Alas, how mistaken I was, after series of applications were unyielding, i adapted to the Naija way, 'man know man'... Attended wedding after wedding, birthday after birthday, society meeting after society meeting, nothing. I wrote test after test, to no avail. Later i settled for a opportunities lower than the level I was in Europe. Alas, big mistake! I was the subject of gossip, and consistent recipient of the beef meted out to JJCs, despite how much i tried to blend in. Dont want to go intricate on the experience of being an entrepreneur in Nigeria. My summation on that is majority of Nigerians, are chronically about themselves. The endemic mental and material poverty is prevalent on 95percent such that, you either let them destroy the business or you do it yourself... And how can a sole proprietorship expand on that and for how long? The last straw was, when an outsourcing coy called MACTAY based in Lekki called me for an account manager role. As the interview progressed, i soon realized they were not interviewing me for the role i knew i was a perfect fit for but something totally different. Nonetheless, i was not to be defied, i scaled their interviews and all they had to throw at me, and on the last interview was told you were the overall best candidate, and expect our offer in the mail in a fortnight. Newsflash! A fortnight became a month, and another and then other. Mactay became evasive, oh she's in a meeting, she will call you back...blah di blah di blah...
Finally they get back to me after God knows when, with what? A regret letter... An old man in the LASG, was i didnt get it, cos i didnt know anyone who knew someone up in Mactay...I laughed cos all my years in Europe, being a black man, stigmatized by that derogation 'Nigerian' my belief was if i"m gonna be or get anything here, it would purely be through effort, determination and hard work...and IT DID PAY OFF...So for the place i grew up in to be so messed up and about to put me in a state of depressive mania... I wasnt going to have. I realized that THAT country whether its PDP or APC, is not designed for those who deliberately plan to live long and live well...lol
PoliticsRe: Fulani Herdsmen Kill 40 Farmers In Fresh Attack by Ojady(m): 3:43pm On Mar 09, 2016
It appears these fulani men are armed and will rather kill human beings than allow their 'more valuable than human communities' cows starve. I mean cows will eat anything, they graze wherever their herder leads them. For the Fulanis to continually lead their herd ( their source of economic subsistence) to the farmlands of communities speaks of insensitivity and arrogance. A more drastic solution might be the solution. I do not subscribe to arming communities not because it wouldnt have an effect. Howbeit, a mini war between fulani herdsmen and communities with women and children can and will leave grave casualties. If the FG or SG are unable to erect barbed wires to keep out these Fulanis, then it is time to target these cows since they are the only things these fulani herdsmen truly care about. These communities either set traps on farmlands or lace parts of the farmland most vulnerable to cattle grazing with nitrates (poisons). This could save innocent lives

Not a fan neither am I against, yet sometimes when one sees certain things, a Pastor, a popular one at that, taking the time, getting out of his posh ride, exposing himself to the numerous dangers seen and unseen, we got to give it to him... He could have sat in his air-conditioned car, and DO NOTHING - i mean the typical Nigerian big man aloofness - be on the phone, reading the paper, proferring solutions without moving a muscle, facebook status on it, tweet, instagram, anything BUT getting involved, perhaps even blame it on PDP, rather he chose to exemplify the lil things change is about, not the globe trotting or buck passing we've been subjected to this past months
Jobs/VacanciesRe: No Jobs Or No Employable Graduates? by Ojady(m): 12:19am On Feb 25, 2016
To answer questions like these, one might need to attempt a practical approach - in Nigeria, a company, regardless of size or reputation posts an opening say on LinkedIn, last night. You quickly apply. An interesting thing to note is the number of people who have already applied to the opening, in rare cases, one would find a rate of at least a 100 applicants ( thats just being modest) LinkedIn whether true or false, offers to provide you, a 'how you match with the competition' provided you are a subscribed member. Now, there, if one assumes the company is actually telling the truth (not just using the medium to measure just how many people want to work for them or to boost their google rating or local rep) is a factual reality - there is / are jobs but the ratio of applicants to available jobs is >250:1. One need not forget how HR recruiting units in a bid to justify or misappropriate the company funds allotted to recruiting the 'best' candidate embark on an elaborate yet untransparent recruitment process. The process is nothing short of an organized scam, where applicants know not what SIGNIFICANT criteria they are progressed to the next stage or 'regretted' (sic) to inform you dumped. Little wonder when most do apply with all their qualifications and indeed, over qualifications, they STILL resort to searching who they know, who knows somebody, who knows somebody there, for those not so fortunate, they resort to spiritual endeavours for favour in a system so fraught with uncertainty and haziness. This is more or less, a major factor why getting a job in Nigeria without connections but pure merit and due diligence is VERY VERY rare and a major testimony in Nigeria when it DOES occur.

As per unemployable graduates, what we see is what we get. We cannot pour a concoction of garri, sugar, kuli kuli, cold water and expect the savour of a decent home made plate of jollof, meaning our graduates are simply products of the system. Truth be told, and regardless of how much wealth we claim to have, Nigeria is poor. Not in terms of what money can buy but in terms of the enabling environment to birth and continuously sustain positive development. For instance, Education and i mean not just going to school or bagging certificate upon certificate is about the civilization of the man in totality. Back in the day, there were monumental differences between those who went on to higher education, and those who did not. Nowadays, you hardly find any difference. Majority of college students think and behave less of the standard expected of them. It is this mediocre and less than average package our 'graduates' take into a society that is unprepared for them and even they dont know, what to expect. And so like a deer caught in headlights, some go with the flow, becoming whatever, good or bad, the society molds them to be while others escape to foreign countries

Its so easy to sit behind your computer and type 'shit' about someone in a picture who's surrounded by smiles and happy faces - must everything be political? Even at Christmas! Go give yourself a break mate...When APC was the opposition, how many of their governors (even BRF) engaged with the masses on the scale Fayose has done? None. They couldnt, never have and never will... Call it whatever 'stomach infrastructure', 'basic' its just plain rude...Here's a man who knows, the majority of his people dont want to be Governor, dont care about posting things on fb or nairaland, not concerned themselves having 3 or 4 cars in their driveway and so on...all the 'real' masses want is
: address my basic need, and maybe then I'll listen to you... Fayose knows that, he's working on it, personally monitoring the distribution process and you're here hating... This is CHANGE and it wouldnt be a bad idea if your stuck up so call Governators emulate some of these

If you are young man and unmarried, bruv, go for KPMG, why? You're young, you dont overly need a Work-Life balance as such, work is 5 days a week maybe some weekends too... The pay? Fantastic, Also, You did Engineering for five years, now KPMG is a multi national consulting firm with clients unimaginable. It means diversity and versatility for you. You'll meet smart people in different fields, from varied walks of life, the exposure is inestimable...you WILL work with clients in Engineering, meaning your background will enable you to adapt and engage consulting with Engineering. That should be a fresh graduate's dream.

I'm assuming you're smart to have gotten both offers, and if you did, study and conquer Engineering for five years, then your potential is enormous - dont settle for less. KPMG will expose you, perhaps on a whole different level, than NBC ( I mean the name Nigerian,) suggests just how far you can go... NBC as typical of anything Nigeria, is fraught with the usual primordial politics, if you're one of those, then of course NBC.
FamilyRe: My Husband Went Back To Nigeria Last Christmas To Wed A New Wife - UK Woman by Ojady(m): 7:43pm On Dec 23, 2015
A lot of people say a lot of things here, full of ignorance or just plain out of touch with reality. As an African man or woman, married or not, how many of us will, knowingly, deliberately, being nubile, go out, talkless of marrying, a woman/man who already had 2 kids from a previous alliance. If you say, why not, then you are the true offspring of the devil - A LIAR.

First of, anything can attract the sexes to each other, both were emotionally available for different reasons, she for reasons bothering more on the heart, he bothering more, on that of the mind - typical of the way both sexes approach life and its issues. Now for 6 years, their needs were met - she, a companion who judged her not for her appearance ( traditional African men like their women healthy not hollywood promoted anorexia impressions on telly) and he, an opportunity to be a man again, that is work, commit, protect, provide, lead, make good African intercourse with a woman.

Now no one knows the antecedents of both prior to 2004, neither can we say, if it was pure bliss within the 10 year time they were together. Nevertheless at that time, both were beneficial to each other - he was a father to her prior kids, he was a source of clean credit for her, he picked up her kids and literally, was a father to them; he had to endure the covert discrimination of her friends, society and even family, even insults from her previous baby daddies; he perhaps was reminded every now and then of how she made him whatever he is in the UK - I mean the circumstances are innumerable...

What we see here is a clash of cultural differences...something and someone had to give, and No, it wasnt going to be the one who had the upper hand (the oyibo) but he who realized he had an alternative. Now before anyone goes on about UK getting nasty, do you really think "anybody got time for that", anh han! He, a British Citizen now, he got British kids, He entitled to welfare benefits if he needs them, and, if there is the chance, the UK want to take a piss, he would just cross over to any of the developed countries of the Commonwealth say Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc with his new bride, and he'd be just fine...
Jobs/VacanciesRe: A Letter To Recruiters In Nigeria From A Pained Job Seeker by Ojady(m): 8:37pm On Dec 22, 2015
I had such experience with such companies who specialize in wasting your time, talent and tangible resource (e.g. Old Mutual Nigeria - financial advisor & Mactay consulting - HR business partner etc) Such so called HR peoples' edge over you is that they have the connections that got them the job, asides that they are not 'tihs' (sic). It is only in Nigeria such exploitation thrives, due to poverty, jungle culture of and in everything. If its for you, adjust to it, if its not, gerrara there, man!

I mean transparency no longer lives anywhere in this country, poverty in every sense imaginable has taken over. Now while waiting what options are available to you: start a micro business, go back to school, learn a trade or something you can do with your hands, take the jobs with a shorter recruitment process, volunteer at a community development centre (in Nigeria, they are called churches), work for a relative at least to have some money, AND, try to get out of that country - face it, if your destiny aint there, it is NOT THERE. PoliticsRe: OPC Alerts Security On Planned Pro-Biafra Protest In Yoruba Land by Ojady(m): 8:53pm On Dec 04, 2015
A group says Lagos is "no man's land" that is erroneous and misguided. If an Igbo dies in Lagos, where will he/she be buried? Lagos? or taken 'home' where he or she or her parents are descended from? For Biafrans to lay claim to a place they are not originally descended from is disrespectful.

Now, obviously they can protest wherever they want, however, they should realize that there are other Nigerians who have legitimate business to do on the streets of Lagos; so if they plan a 'peaceful' expression of their aspirations, they should restrict it to a location, preferably a stadium, that will contain their sympathisers and not compound the already precarious nature of things in Lagos. They could as well, get their igbo owned media to cover it. They can do that...

Now Yorubas, you guys could be perceived as the most insecure, scheming and perhaps the most discordant groups in Nigeria. No doubt you are accommodating, yet, the truth be told, you guys dont give a flying eff about each other. Yorubas backstab one another, throw each other under the bus, victimize those of your kin who dare to challenge archaic ways no longer relevant. Face it, the Northerners get unified by their religion and language, the igbos perhaps their biafra dreams and being strangers in a foreign land... Yorubas, what unifies you? Nothing significant or specific...

A yoruba sells his father's or family heritage/ properties to a stranger, an Igbo man; kills his brother over something as mundane as 'owo ile'; Ambode runs Fashola down on the remote of Tinubu, Ganiu Adams disrespects Frederick Fasehun, Osoba vs Obasanjo and so on... These are the cracks people like the Igbo take advantage of...a Yoruba would smile at you, eat with you, live in your house and still betray you...loyalty to the group aint more than a buck to the Yoruba, forget the semblance of unity and oneness they try to portray during their owambes and aso ebi.

Now to my Igbo aspirees, be concerted, dont just plan your exit anyhow, rein your youth in, i mean, some of your own were killed and shot at, how do you think their family are going to feel? If you want Biafra, go to the media, let your governors, senators all clamour and be for it, relocate your businesses and assets in 'the zoo' to Biafra, minimize your involvement in 'One Nigeria' locally and internationally and be strategic...only then will ANYONE take you seriously
PoliticsRe: FFK Reacts To Kano Bomb Blast, Tacitly Attacks Buhari by Ojady(m): 9:33pm On Nov 27, 2015
One of Nigeria's biggest problems is the fact that, when a person states facts, rather than address those facts objectively, Nigerians, will start to fault the person on irrelevant "unrelated to the facts at hand" personal matters. All FFK has stressed, are they facts, is he a Nigerian, has he been a recipient (positively or otherwise) of the happenings since "change" happened 6 months ago? These i believe, are the real issues. CelebritiesRe: I Can’t Figure Out Why The Poor Have More Children- Charly Boy by Ojady(m): 5:19pm On Nov 11, 2015
The self acclaimed "area fada" has no doubt lost touch on this one, with what life is about for a majority of people in the "area" he claims to be "fada".

In a country like Nigeria, why would the financially poor not have babies? Nigeria is a very stress inducing, stress filled country. Anything and everything is stress prone. It is not a material only determined phenomenon, it is mainly as a result of the environment. To be in poverty is not just in the financial terms, It also encapsulates an inability to meet psychological, social, physiological, environmental and biological needs in a balanced, predetermined independent manner without the imposition of a force greater than one's will to choose. This is perhaps, why in Nigeria while we have a considerable number of people above financial poverty, an overwhelming number remain impoverished psychologically, socially and so on. The hassle is such that those with material wealth can acquire alternatives: a number of de-stressors to defuse the stress inducer or diversify its effects. What then happens, if you do not have the means to "de-stress". Imagine, after leaving the house at 4am, to a job i only go to, to ensure a pay check at the end of the month (after a bachelors and graduate degrees with countless professional certificates), i endure the psychic overload of equally stressed out Nigerians, on the road, in the bus and at work; i stoically endure an originally 35 minute now turned 4 hour commute to work and back, I come home to a house with no power, i proceed to generate my own power only to realize, we used up the last drop of gas lastnight. I head out to the filling station at 9pm, only to be at the receiving end of a conductor who would not give me change or the attendant who will not sell the commensurate price per litre. I take it in stride, afterall i have to be out by 4am. I get home, i want to take a shower after a 7 minute exercise in generating my own power. In the bathroom, i realise i have to pump water, i head out in my towel, at the mercy of mosquitoes, i begin the process of switching pipes from co tenants water lines to mine, i have to wait another 30 minutes to at least get a bucket...

While all this is going on, (dont let me bother you about my partner's side of things, you know women now) i literally gobble down my dinner without a thought of savouring it, who has the time for that, when i am pumping water, thinking of Nepa bill, wondering how my budget for the week is gone on tuesday, how to raise my 350k rent. I finish the meal, have my shower, sit for a few minutes infront of the tv with a semblance of catching the gist of things happening ( thats not true, i'm only waiting for the water to finish pumping) that done in 30 minutes thereafter. This is like 22.30 hours, i start getting ready for the "gidi" again tomorrow - monday to friday, this is one of the many variations of the hustle. I'm sure yours would be equally if not more dramatic.

All these are just things the average Nigerian goes through and endures monday to friday, while doing that, where is the opportunity to be human, i mean the need to love and be loved, even if there is a chance, ( knowing Nigerians are very ingenious) would that time if its not shortlived, be a time you want to be mental or rational - No, i didnt think so. You just want to kick back and enjoy the company of your partner... The materially poor have babies not because they intend to, it happens when intercourse is the most accessible recreation they have... In developed countries, policies and interventions are designed e.g. the chinese one child per family, contraceptives like morning after pill, temporary and permanent 'clipping' for men, public parks, gyms, community centres, etc the alternatives are available, you are empowered with choice. In Nigeria, where is the choice?

PoliticsRe: Common Lies Nigerians Tell Themselves About Nigeria. by Ojady(m): 2:15am On Nov 11, 2015
A country where majority of its people have lost the true value and meaning of being a human being, even if it was great once upon a time, can never be again.

How many people 45 years and under, in this country can mention at least 5 good things about the country? The other day, a young man was reprimanded for complaining about the incessant power outage, by an older man, who said "what else is new adapt to it".

The only people who seem to be benefitting from Nigeria are the politicians, top brass in the military, oil bloc allottees, the bank MDs, the religious leaders and maybe a few musicians. If you're not in this category, you need to critically evaluate if your children will have a better life or worse than what you experienced. If no, find your way out of that country - the responsibility of every preceding generation is to lay the foundations for a better life for the next generation. This unfortunately is not what Nigerian leaders are about...
FamilyRe: PHOTO: This Beautiful Girl Is Missing by Ojady(m): 5:58pm On Nov 08, 2015
Again some Nigerians displaying the barbarism, ignorance and myopicity that accords them the shame and disgrace they get from civilized peoples all over the world. A human being, a person's child, relative, blood goes missing for over 24 hours, we all know the kind of environment we're living in, the chances that she is safe and alive is highly uncertain; We have a police force that know nothing about policing, security nor the value of human life and, we live in a society where every Emeka, Haruna, Segun and Tariebi do not just CARE anymore as long as its not their sister. I mean, if she were your daughter, your sister, your niece, your cousin, would beauty be of any consequence?and, would you take kindly to some misguided comments being thrown around her...I know i wouldnt and that should be the reaction of any true human being who still has the ability to be human.
Rather than trivialize a serious issue with uncouth remarks and innuendos bothering on beauty or religion or even ethnicity, it is way better to not contribute than input comments that question the ability and capacity of such individuals to reason and comport themselves in the manner and civility characteristic of higher creatures.
HealthRe: Mother, Child Die Looking For Doctor (Photo) by Ojady(m): 9:43pm On Nov 05, 2015
For someone who has walked in the shoes of the unfortunate husband i can relate to his ordeal. Majority of Nigerians, whatever their profession, nurse, police, bus conductor, Senator, kalu, ebi, tunde, audu; rich, poor, notherner, westerner, easterner, southerner, have no regard for human life beyond theirs and maybe their immediate family. My thoughts and sympathies go to the husband who has lost a wife, the child who has lost a mother, not forgetting the family who have lost a dear member. Perhaps the gentleman is one of those who for incredible reasons believe in Nigeria. There is nothing wrong with that, however, life is hard where there are no alternatives. Nigeria today and maybe the next ten years offers little to no positive alternative. Some of us can blame the husband, blame the government, yet, realistically, what options did he have: public government hospitals are a waste, private hospitals perhaps have a nicer environment, they are more or less about the money. This blatant disregard for human life will continue to cripple that nation regardless of what ethnic group or party is in power. Until this value for life is consciously and actively promoted, Nigeria will only see brilliant projects take one step forward fifty steps backward.

TravelRe: UK Plans To Deport 29,000 Nigerians by Ojady(m): 11:41pm On Oct 25, 2015
This conservative government led by Cameron is to a great extent racial discriminating. Since their entry to government, majority of their policies has been anti non-EU migrant. It was this coalition government that scrapped the Highly skilled migrant programme, scrapped the post study work programme; imposed near ridiculous conditions to joining or being joined by one's family in the UK, hiked international students fees, allowed schools to charge well over 200percent from international students and other draconian policies.
The truth is, there is a hidden agenda, a fact they want to hide. For instance, anyone who has ever lived in the UK, either as a student, immigrant, visitor etc knows that living there on a job of 40hours a week is near impossible. You either work 2 jobs or you work overtime on your one job. I personally know Nigerians who do 16 hours of work every day, that equals 80hours a week. These people get taxed massively. A number of them are not on any benefits, they are law abiding, they try to even claim tax credits on the hard work they do, but the systemic discrimination disallows them from following through. The arrogant UK government, tax you for free medical care, something you dont even use up to 10percent annually, cos you are rarely iill; they deduct pensions and you cant even transfer it to your home country until 65 or retired. That doesnt matter cos you would have been so harassed with deportation, their allowing you to stay would be enough. I dont know about other countries but what i do know is the UK employs discriminatory behaviour to cover up the truely significant contribution of not only Nigerians but Africans to their shitty country.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: The Best Way To Apply For Jobs Online! by Ojady(m): 11:21pm On Oct 24, 2015
Applying online is a step. Unfortunately it is no guarantee that the supposed company's HR are going to get it, talkless of shortlisting. I stand to be corrected, yet in my experience, the issue of whether a company is recruiting or not has many intricacies. These could stem from the recruiting company itself. In a place like Nigeria, what is called a successful application is not online application, as a matter of fact, it is a mere formality. In developed countries with near absolute transparent recruitment practices, you can apply and say to a more or less extent, whether or not, you would get a call up. In Nigeria, you would do better, after applying online to go on say LinkedIn or facebook, (I'd say the former though) and find someone in the proposed coy's HR you have a mutual connection with. This is if you are one of the 89.9% percent of graduates with no Uncle, Member of Papa's club or Dad's church society President to hook you up. Truth be told, in Nigerian job market, the reality is to turn it upside down, inside out, wrong (sic) way for it to work.
