AlphaHandMaiden:My first instinct is to lean baby forward and hit the back with an open palm so whatever is lodged in will come out. Then maybe bend the kid forward more and keep hitting the back. My mind tends to go curiously focused when things are really, shite hits the ceiling bad. Dexterush, sorry for your loss. Abeg all these stories are frightening, aren't they? Life feels too cheap here. |
Jennykoko3009:https://www.nairaland.com/3511128/how-cloth-diaper Please check that thread and email wambydiapers@gmail.com |
rofemiguwa:I have some like this and I used both soakers together. I But that is Hook and Loop/Velcro/Applix fastener on the front of the diaper so get ready to see your LO nekkid a lot (babies like the sound of it and it is very easy to remove ). Just hold your camera and prepare for nekkid dancing. Meanwhile, I used our Cotton prefold wrapped around a microfiber insert all night yesterday in a cover, no leaks. You should try it but use the Hemp or Bamboo because I think you can get 5-6 hours (your LO will pee more than mine), our cotton is quite thick. |
The Cameroonian had apparently just been hired 2 months ago and asked for early December salary. It seems like she told him he would get paid at the end of the month instead. And so many of you are supporting the killer. Oh well, Nigerians for you. |

Medison Hospital will provide a surrogate. I had a friend registered there and she confirmed it. Se.x selection is pretty expensive (in the range of a couple of thousands of dollars). Probably cheaper to do abroad because the technology isn't here and logistics make it expensive. Cc glossy6 |
Pretimum:Soluble Aspirin is OTC and is for strokes because Aspirin is a blood thinner. Before you start taking Aspirin, find out if your health history you have had haemoragghic stroke and speak to your Dr (where you are bleeding in the brain, an aunt had several small ones). So yeah, you can get that. Once your husband or wife or father or Mother is above 50, you ought to sit him down with a health workee and tell him about Cardiac Arrest, Heart attacks and Strokes, their symptoms and lifestyle changes to prevent them. |
AlphaHandMaiden:Used to know a guy that was a Regional Head of Nig Red Cross, back then was I was hoping to plan free Emergency class for health workers (I had spoken to some EMT techs to see what would be required to fly them down). But Nigeria and Nigerians have a way of killing any positive thoughts towards them ![]() We have LASG ambulances in Lagos and I believe a private air ambulance service which you can call (you pay after i think). |
Pretimum, I'm sorry about your loss. A Cardiac arrest is a very common way of death in Nigeria, especially in Men. There are warning signs (tightening of the chest etc). And if you can do CPR in the first few minutes, you can usually save the victim. My neighbour died before we could get to him but one of my brothers saved another man. We all need to learn basic CPR. Have you ever seen videos of people pumping someone's chest? That's CPR. You lie the victim down, head back, open mouth (so air can get in). Then you pump the chest with both hands in a rhythm (4-4 time if you sightread music, there used to be a song I was told to sing mentally when pumping because it would give me the right rhythm). Then blow air down their mouth into their chest. Repeat because you are trying to restart the heart. I have never done it so I cannot remember all the steps. But unfortunately people start doing things like pouring water on slumped victims and trying to rush them to hospital, and in 90% of all cases, those steps mean Death (you will never make it on time and how many Nigerian hospitals have defribillators or electricity to use it?). Once you hit 50 years, you should have a defribillator and soluble Aspirin in your home. I'm really sorry for your loss. I know how it feels. |
Mimzyy:It may take a while but I'll keep you updated. Rofemiguwa, will send you an email concerning some not-so-good update about the AiOs. However I will do a post on Fitteds and explain today. |
Mimzyy:Good morning. Training pants do exist but we currently don't have them in stock for now. We can get them with our next order but I will keep you informed about it. |
comtem2011:Dexterush's hubby is not bad. 2016 is the first year in my life, that I have ever held a live chicken. The mallam selling them thrust them at me to weigh it, I panickedly held them at the legs for 2 mins and released them. He laughed eh. When I was younger, I used to adopt stray animals. Chickens would come home for Christmas and I would name them. One's name was Violet (she was so sweet and well-behaved!). I would specially feed her and she got so used to humans, she would constantly try and stay close by, even when raining. So one night it was raining and I was scared she would have a chest cold. I woke my mum up and told her "Violet is under the rain!". That woman woke up from sleep, at freaking 2am in the morning, carried umbrella and went to help me look for a domestic chicken. We found her and kept her in the storeroom. My mum is totally making Heaven, for not complaining and doing that when she must have been bone-tired. any small thing, you guys will be here complaining and beating pikin, can you do that?? ![]() |
rofemiguwa:Hello. Have you heard of a fitted diaper? Below are examples. One of our Wamby mamas is in charge of prototype design and she is having one made for you (I directed her to your posts in the past). So 3 prototypes and you're getting 1 for testing, no later than next week Monday. Is that good? It should work for creche too.
|
This Christmas, match your baby girl in diaper and wetbag in Pink Hibiscus Did you know you could use your wetbags not just for diapers, but for dirty clothes, dirty bibs when you're out and about. It has 2 pouches so if your older child decides to spill food all over herself, put the dirty clothes in the front pouch and dirty diapers in the back pounch.
|
Sugarcanebaby, I think everyone gave a much better answer than I would have, re the Creche question. so lots of great advice already. Give them a call and organise a visit. Check if they have live sockets at floor level. |
cutiereborn:Take her to the hospital tomorrow. They will ask what level her fever has been, so do you have a thermometer? Just for a checkup. But yeah, Dr first and let's know what he says. |
shaybebaby:You're a good person. |
Godmother, there is no right answer for any question in this world. There is usually a best answer, and that is dependent on the person/people involved. Necessity has forced this situation upon your friend but it could either be a time of growth for her or it could be a time to say "yup, I wish I was in hell". Nigerians are not naturally kind, polite or understanding or tolerant people in general. So a naturally uncomfortable situation becomes even more touchy. Now, I have seen, upclose, how a situation like hers has become the stuff of cautionary tales and nightmares. The MiL in that case was a woman with a caustic tongue but a warm beating heart. The DiL was a woman with a soft, submissive mien but a heart made of malice. And when the dust was settled, she had broken ties with her in-laws, family friends. If you think I am exaggerating, DiL was the cause of the husband losing his promising job and having to move back home in the first place (she really cannot stop her poison, it's so saccharine). So, what is your friend like? Is she like that lady above? Is she all fire on the outside? Is she given to fits of sullen depression and noticing any petty slight, imagined or otherwise? Can she give Patience and Bite Her Tongue even when it is clear she is not at fault? Because that's how you should advice her: "look, this is a tough situation and these are where I can see you having problems..." Being honest with a friend is more important than not trying to hurt her feelings, once in a while. Her husband needs to have a conversation with his family (read: his mother): "I'm so grateful for what you've done, my wife and I. She has been so apprehensive because she's so worried about messing up in your eyes, shes scared and this is a scary time for us. But I know you will be patient with her mistakes because she does her best to make ME happy and support us as a new family". That sentence is arse-kissing with an implied warning. The best type of sentence. Let her move in, after all this has been done. And the couple should make concrete plans for even a face-me-I-slap-you-room in the near future (even if all goes well, no parent wants to see their adult son depending on them. It will cause annoyance and comparison to another's child who is not doing that). And tell her, "What a MiL will accept in her daughter will annoy her in her DiL. So, don't take it personally, okay?" |
AlphaHandMaiden:Actually I was thinking something easier. N100 to N500 credit (because not everyone can do upto N2000 but if anyone is feeling flush). Also, to avoid keeping it local, someone can come here and say "Alphahandmaiden, Santa coming your way!" and PM you to ask what company you use (Airtel, Etisalat etc) and send you credit numbers. Doing that means most people would be covered and our England based mummies can also participate for our Naija mums (since, you know, one coin is now N500 ).If anyone wants to hook up, that's fine but for some of us, there is no-one close to us, or we may not want to go that far or even have the time to get out the house. And nominating someone to pick names may lead to some issues so this is more free. And we can send Santa to someone via credit and it doesn't mean they have to reciprocate to us, they can pass it on and send Santa to someone else. |
This week's edition of #Threadbabies is titled "Christmas Special" and I will be reminding us all daily about it. I was hoping we could do a sort of Santa here to each other but we are still deciding on it. So get ready for Friday! |
Pleasr can someone organise an NGO that allows for Safe Surrender, an anonymous, non-judgemental way for people to give up unwanted babies? Get registered, put flyers everywhere in villages and towns and hit social media. All you need do is pick representatives in each place, anyone can go and place their baby at the person's door and the representative of Safe Surrender will collect the child without asking any questions. Just leave a note with gender and age of child. These babies will be taken to local orphanages. Hand the baby over, keep the baby on the doorstep and leave. But remember, you giving up the child cannot come back for the child. This will require state governments to be involved to legitimise the NGO and make sure it doesn't turn into anything else. |
Blow-Out Free zone: Have you ever used a flimsy disposable diaper? Yes, everyone has. And because the elastics are not so strong or in some cases, non-existent where you need it. So you pick up your LO (especially when they have runny poop, which is common below 6 months) for a change and gbam, find small slivers of poop in their clothes. Not in the diaper o, on their clothes. At the backs and around the legs are the most common areas. But why na?? It's because those places lack elastic and that is a design problem with most locally made disposies. The foreign disposies tend to have elastic but those things are flimsy, one-use, so the elastic is not as strong...as something meant to be washed severally! And that's a big plus for cloth diapers: a good cloth diaper cover should have strong elastics around it. Heck, it should have double gussets (and I'll explain on the blog more). So if you fit well (remember, a finger should fit in snugly when done, no gaps around the legs or waist), this shouldn't be a problem. The elastics will wear off but the earliest I've seen elastics break down is 2 years and i wrapped the cover snugly and it still didn't leak poop or pee.

Good morning parents and thank you for your purchases so far! I heard there were some nice little gifts sent as well (that was me o! That was my idea for my NL mummies, you berra thank me ). Abeg please send us pics of your babies in diapers (we shall crop faces if you like), and please keep the questions coming, always check www.mameandboo..com for tips and leave comments. |
pheesayor:Don't drug her. Most of those stuff have things in them that are not just ordinary painkillers, even Drs don't like them. Keep her toys in the cold part of the fridge (not freezer) and give her to chew. Give her a towel with cool water to be sucking on, even regular water temp of Cold tap in the bathroom is cool enough to soothe her gums. The night before the tooth showed up, my LO would run a temp and that was when we gave her Infant Tylenol. So if she's in pain that cannot be soothed, try that. |
About Babies, Toddlers and Food, it has been proven scientifically that they will eat when hungry and pick the healthiest option of all meals. If anyone doesn't believe that, allow me to illustrate with what my kid os doing right this moment: I prepared a lovely sauce (ground beef, carrots, green pepper, spring onions, red onions, tomatoes and a dash of curry, cinnamon, pepper and salt). Truly delicious and not peppery (in her own case). I served it with ripe plantain, mashed (which she eats normally and has gotten tired of). That caused one hour of fighting. I tried boiled yam with butter. She ate some and then we fought some more. She started picking out the carrots from the sauce, which we ate as well. Himself said to try fresh carrots. So we peeled and sliced a carrot, unboiled. SHE HAS FINISHED IT! We will top up with Cerelac and call it a day. Will carrots make her plump? Nope. Will they make her healthier than some plump kid drinking down pap? Yes. I am constantly told "give her what she wants and don't force her, on her own she will pick healthy choices. They are wired to take what they need to survive". |
Iyawotobe, it depends on you and your plans for next year. I wanted to start school in January but we may wait till August/September. |
pheesayor:It may be teething or Tonsilistis (swollen tonsils at the back of the mouth/throat). You should take her to the hospital for a look. Hope she feels better. |
This is Christmas Week. We all do not want to keep bringing up fights and petty exchanges of words. If you wish to say anything aggressive or argumentative to anyone, PLEASE PM THEM! No need for anyone to reply this, thanks. SEASONS GREETINGS, EVERYONE. |
shaybebaby:Don't mind him, me I'm like 15 years old, still living with my parents in Alimosho, where he comes to toast me daily. I don't understand the economy or I do understand small and that makes it even more scary. Do you know we import cows into Nigeria? I asked and they said they pay Cefa or what they call it to the Fulani guys who are not Nigerians because Nigeria does not have enough cows. If a foreign country is serious, it will be easy to destablise us, just starve us, mess with our currency, make imports difficult and pay enough people to put certain ideas in the mind of the populace. I don't think we make or grow anything sufficiently. ![]() |
shaybebaby:You're kidding! Neil and I dated, tell him I said hello. Local flights are apparently now N50 to N70K+ and they are cutting corners to make ends meet (I saw a handwritten Arik Air boarding pass). So that is out of the question. Let us try trains na. I mean, Aviation options now include driving to Cotonou or Ghana to get a cheaper international ticket . Na wa o, chanji!!! |
thorpido:Thanks. It's a medical question. I hope you can help, even though I have it on good authority you're actually an experienced School teacher with a smashing knowledge of First Aid ![]() |
I am a 40ft tall pink Giraffe with feathers on my feet. Does anyone know if trains run from Lagos to Abuja, because I can only find Abuja to Lagos. Hullo Thorpido. PM please? |
