Giddyperson:Kemifemi, Diazepam is Valium, supposed to calm you down. It's not the best drug ever, especially in Pregnancy. Did the Dr tell you the side effects for pregnant women? It's for 6 nights only, so it may be safe, because your Gynae probably weighed the cost-benefit for you and felt you were low-risk. HBP in pregnancy is dangerous so it must be treated. However, call your Gynae and discuss all the ramifications with him/her before taking it. Ask if this is the best thing for you and the fetus, safety-wise and what next if it doesn't address the issue (you should not take it long term). That's what I did when I was prescribed things I wasn't sure of. We done, for doing your homework and checking if it was safe before swallowing A lot of people just take drugs without doing their checks. I checked, I discussed and hours later, my Gynae called me and said it was not worth the risk and I shouldn't take the pills or do whatever invasive test. |
Top of the morning to y'all, ladies. ![]() Please I have a question: the wool sold here in Nigeria, does it come in different weights and quality? I know Babby wool and the cheap ones in the market are Acrylic yarn, but do we have 100% wool or a blend of Animal and plant wool yarns available in Nigeria? And what weights please. Thanks in advance. |
ifyalways:Jumia and Konga have too many issues, I don't get why they cannot offer dispute resolution or even deliver on time. Which is why I have avoided them. You wanna be like Amazon, you have to deliver like Amazon. If a seller messes up, make sure they get poor ratings. If a customer orders, let it be delivered on time and not 1 month later. You were buying lingerie, Grandma sometimes it's not worth it collecting the merchandise back, shipping costs and all. At least they refunded. Nigerian companies are poor at refunds and handling product issues. I bought something physically from a big company, checked and saw it was defective. Returned it and first the Nigerians there were trying to convince me to "just manage it like that", "why didn't you inspect the goods before leaving", "we never get complaints, you are being troublesome", (a blatant lie), until I called their foreign boss who apologized and changed the goods. |
ifyalways:I have never paid Cash On Delivery. I buy from small retailers, not Jumia and Konga. Smaller Companies tend to want to protect their business better so will send out the right items. I once purchased Body Butters from one to send to someone else, whole transaction was smooth without me seeing the product till months later. It really depends on the company. The company I work with, we use actual pictures of our products and offer a Tracking number with every shipment. If there is an issue, they have at least 3 people in Customer Care to answer. So far, most of the Natural-Organic lifestyle brands follow this route. |
dtush:Dtush, may I suggest not splurging too much on the toys? Just a few may do. We have 2 Montessori toys (colour stacking cups and shapes) and to be honest, I'm not sure they helped much. I developed a sort of program and sit her on a stool (though I'm lazy about it) and Daddy helped and so far, she knows her colours, shapes ("Rectangle" is hard for her to pronounce sha), Numbers and only "A, B, C" then skips to "G, H" and other letters. She knows animals and their sounds. And we have started writing (her grip is good, so we are focusing on making the right marks). I think it was more spending time going over with her. And turning as much as possible into a learning experience (she went somewhere and accurately identified a relative's phone as "Pink" and they were treating it like she passed GCE ). We have not started any sort of school o. I'm planning her Music Education next, then we really push Science and Math and Reading. I think you have to spend some time with your LO to make an impact. I did talk to some teachers and I can send Baby E to a Montessori but she's coming home to be tutored by me. I always had that plan since the age of 20. Besides my nephews went to posh Montessori-based school (a lot of people don't get Montessori right) and struggled afterwards (very little homework monitoring) and at the end of the day, the best graduating student in their Primary school was a little girl who didn't do never had a lesson teacher but had an awesome Grandmother. And that Grandmother taught me, my siblings, my friends, quite a number of parents in that hall, so no-one was surprised she got Firsts in almost every subject. (seriously, every father of a hopeful son went to congratulate the parents of that girl. Negotiations are already underway for her ) |
JustinSlayer69:My brother, I just came here to give you Twale for this comment. I cannot wait to steal and deploy it on some annoying person one day ![]() So happy for Mayowa, Nigerian models have been pushing for a while now. |
So many are still using this list, I should get paid ![]() I should do a 2017 update on this list. Got a bit more info... But I'm not in the mood to type... |
AlphaHandMaiden:He doesn't waste niceties on me (plus he was smack in the middle of ward rounds and I was there saying "please this is important, give me answers and a time/date). Like I said, no worries ![]() Choco Milo is sooo last year, I want Fan Ice.
|
AlphaHandMaiden:Same thing the Con. Paed said when I spoke to him. No worries sha. Everyone have a good evening (so I don't get any love and sympathy?? I, the only person that reads all your essays and memorizes them word for word?? Sniff sniff). |
Graciouscharis:Full detailed explanation loading. Sit tight. ![]() Still loading |
rofemiguwa:okay o, bye bye. |
AlphaHandMaiden:I needed moral support and hand-holding for immunizations for months. The time they did rectal, it was Daddy who stayed there. Liver get levels ![]() |
rofemiguwa:Because you work with *cough* medical people, you suppose have strong liver to be shoving meds up there if she can't keep her meds down layman like me won't be able to do it without getting upset with Life. If her fever was spiking and she was throwing up her meds, her Dr should have done it. Rather than still leaving you to struggle with a syringe. |
eyinjuege:Na wao, #ShowOff do you know how to handle Tiger Prawns and can you show me please? There's this lady on IG who caters. You need to see her pics. I have never been so confused in my entire life, wanting to eat stuff I have never been interested in eating before. she got me interested in Tiger Prawns and strangely found Lobster as well (she's in Lagos). |
I have been told by professionals that good brands are ranked high to low like Husqvarna, Bernina, Janome, Juki and moving down lower, Necchi, Brother, Singer all in that order. That it's better to buy a secondhand of the first 5 brands than brand-new of most Singers, a few Brothers and almost all Butterfly. Better stitch quality and ease of use. And older machines were built of metal rather than newer models with too many stitches you won't use and built with plastic that doesn't last as long. If I see a Husqvarna sewing machine and Janome/Juki serger, secondhand, I'll pick it up. |
People do not understand Nigerian Medical System. I do and believe me when I say, having surgeries in Nigeria is not for the faint-hearted. When my sibling used to be a lecturer at one of the leading Teaching Hospitals in Nigeria, he said they should have lost their accreditation to teach Surgery years ago. And he was teaching my mates. Most of my older family members taught my classmates. Whom are now the Dr's treating everyone. And if things were bad then, imagine now. Private hospitals in Nigeria are a joke. There will be CMD, a Consultant Baddo. He will then hire Residents and GPs to fill in for daily clinicals. Those ones will be managing your case and trying to reach him on the phone when issues arise. Then he will call in other experienced Dr's and surgeons to quickly attempt to save you. The case notes that get to them is written by the same Residents and GPS, who may have made mistakes. And the senior ones will try to cover up any errors. That is what happens with even the so-called reputable hospitals. Residency in Nigeria is by who-you-know. They are constantly struggling to get spots in Teaching Hospitals. So how do you expect them to be superior Drs? Same issue with Schools of Nursing, the system rot is so bad. If you have options to deliver abroad, abeg carry your load and go, they are not fantastic but the basics they will sha get. The NHS they keep insulting is better than most of our private hospitals. I have no idea why this couple chose birth here. |
rollyare:Nothing in Abuja off the top of my head. Cloth diapers are truly not that hard, they're new to learn, but not hard. I'm not someone who likes complicated but I have done it now for almost 2 years and will continue. Try reading this: www.mameandboo..com There is enough info on cloth wipes and cloth diapers there. Or read an independent blog, lots exist on the web for UK and US. ![]() |
rofemiguwa:MP + is not too bad. But a month of antimalarial and antibiotics, hmm. I do hear, a lot, that our Dr's tend to always treat Malaria and Antibacterial because it's the most common ailments. Even though it isn't always right. By now, the malaria should have cleared. The rectal is for her. I don't know anyone in LASUTH, I can ask but it may take a while to get an answer. Hopefully by weekend. |
rofemiguwa:You're just the fakest person ever! Rectal suppositories! Has Pristine's blood work come out, is it positive for malaria parasite? What's her temp, highest? It's weird that GPs here don't give a proper breakdown of fever management. (I kind of don't like this Naija style of being stuck with GP or first year Resident and they never want to transfer you to their seniors. Sometimes they make mistakes based on that and won't want to admit it). As for paediatrician, LUTH is closest to you. All my people are not close to you unless I ask them to recommend in your area (which I'm only guessing using office address). |
It's annoying that they are jacking up their prices now in retail and will tell you they bought it at the old rate (even when you scratched the can to identify the old stock ). In a month's time, let's see if their madness will persist and they will keep increasing prices and blaming dollar and government. |
Nimi22:Stylishly switch to brown rice (just tell him it is Anambra rice). Hit the internet and get lots of Indian recipes (easy to find their spices in Lagos). Followed by Chinese and Mediterranean recipes. European meals require stuff like Broccoli and cauliflower (and those veggies are like gold nowadays). Plus, casseroles in the oven are usually pasta-based. Sweet potatoes are really good for you. And can you juice fruits? I just juiced pawpaw, Watermelon and pineapple, add a dash of orange, blend it thick and call it a smoothie. But life is not good. Why must one give up processed sugars by 35?? |
This has got to be about money. She's not been included in the sharing formula of getting vendors, procuring asoebi etc. Leave Polygamy alone, especially if you are going to hammer and blow, you guys will not hear. Multiple wives, multiple kids, same result: chaos. |
rollyare:Your answer is with a Paediatric Dermatologist, not here. If you are in Lagos, I know 2. You can give them a call and they will schedule an appointment at their private clinic. You have tried antibacterial and antifungal so it is time time for Dr. The next option is to switch to cloth diapers and cloth wipes, especially those made out of cotton (it is a weird shortcut to use only underwear and keep cleaning up after a baby when there is a product that will absorb and work even better, let the skin breathe and you won't have to be wiping the floor up after baby makes a mess) and most definitely stay away from most disposable diapers. |
Comtem2011, congratulations. Doynb, the rash could be irritation from constantly stooling and excessive handling. You should stop using disposable wipes for now and switch to cloth wipes and you have to create a barrier and a lubricant for the area. I'm working on getting a product for the Mums who cloth diaper and use cloth wipes, I have it but I realized it was pretty pricey. I will try and write up a simple recipe for a barrier cream and hopefully pm it to you (fingers crossed). If not, you will have to do the legwork and search for recipes online. Also, if the stooling stops and the rash persists, you may have a yeast infection on your hands and that will take an antifungal cream (I won't be able to prescribe one for you, as I just got some new info that makes the fact that buying OTC a bit dangerous). That will require a Dr's visit. |
Wait, you're supposed to change your needles with every new project?? So if I'm sewing throw pillows, for every throw pillow, new needle? (BTW, don't even have sewing machine and cannot even sew straight ) I notice everyone online using computerized machines, do they give a stronger stitch or are easier to thread? |
Babythug, did your cactus survive the recession? |
Jacob's Ladder Polemonium. A nice hardy plant that doesn't require too much sunlight. Give it water because it likes a moist soil and really hates sunlight (it burns). Its flowers are usually blue, white, yellow but I mostly see the blue variety here. This is Greek Valerian so if your area is prone to stray cats, they will show up, happy, in your compound because of this plant . The smell drives cats wild however the plant is safe for dogs and cats.

We are a Saturday Breakfast family. Last weekend was Pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon. Today was Avocado-Bacon-Cheesy Toast (yummy!).

Ponytail Palm We are back! I lost my phone and all my pictures of this plant were on it A ponytail palm is a very unique looking plant. Guess what, it is NOT a palm, it is actually a succulent. It had a strange, bulbous looking bottom and the leaves are very hair-like. Apart from its look, what made it stand out for me? The price. A small ponytail palm in a pot (as of last year) went for a whopping N50, 000. It is easy to find a N250, 000 ponytail palm. That's because they live for a long time so a ponytail palm that is 20 years old or more and deeply rooted can cost upto N500, 000. Ponytails are nice for Bonsai. They require very little fertilizer and Water.

rabzy:There are actually some organic city farmers with herbs. Check out Natural Nigerian on Instagram, she usually posts about them because they sell plants and even teach classes on how to establish an urban garden. @cupcakecouturelagos has an urban garden and provides seedlings so contact her on Instagram and join her newsletter. Heh. Cc lorhema |
harmbhrosz:I dunno, family upbringing? We have "weird tastes" (according to most Nigerians) in my family. |
Seun:Most of them don't come in seeds but approach those roadside gardeners and ask to buy a plant or a cutting. Some will be for free, others will cost more. Depending on how exotic or expensive the plant is, you may want to meet the bigger, professional gardeners for them. Hmm, I should continue this thread... |
