Cry, the beloved country |
The women's August meeting has come to stay in some parts of the country. How has it addressed the problems of women? Please share your experiences here. |
pro01: Predictably, dubious women are beginning to run their mouths here about the "unjustness" of this WONDERFUL deity. The most important area they want "equality" with men is the right to be promiscuous. Does that not tell you that virtue is a burden to most of these pretenders? They don't want equality in sharing financial responsibilities, spending in relationships, wooing the opposite sex, engaging in manual labour, and other key areas where men are expected to take the lead. Women don't want 'justice' in these vital areas, yet they don't want to take the lead in faithfulness. The most important thing for them is to have equal right to f**k whoever they want to f**k, even while married or in a relationship in which the men bear all the financial burden! That to them is 'equality'.Men and women are not the same. They are created differently but none is superior to the other. It is against nature to act as if one was made to be a slave to the other. Allow the law of natural justice to shape your thoughts and you will grow an inch taller in every facet of life. |
dasphinx1: Hello, do u mind if I meet u? U sound sooo intelligent.....My dear dasphix1, our world has been submerged with falsehood, especially from the religious angle. Only the truth can set us free. Unfortunately, truth is in short supply around here. |
Lexoria: Bullshit!!Men can cheat but women cannot.Anyway,if I was from that area,I'd sacrifice myself to make the diety which catches the cheating men or permanently erase that which catches women. As my hubby will say "check all the traditions and cultures that are anti- women and u'll see its men who made them for men's benefit".And mehn,is that true.My dear, you are very correct. I wonder why this deity will not catch men who commit the same offence. When a culture truncates the natural law of equity, the society suffers. Is there any wonder why we keep running round the same point? Visit any community that upholds that kind of culture and you will see the fruits of injustice everywhere. |
I shudder at the double standards exhibited by black men. They cry blue murder when they are made victims of racial discrimination but see nothing wrong in giving women a second-class status. I wonder why it is so difficult to appreciate the fact that all human beings deserve equal treatment irrespective of gender, skin colour, etc. |
The Jews have taken the world hostage by being smart enough to popularize their own creation myths and their cultural tenets before most other people realized the importance of writing. Adam, Eve and Lilith are all fictional characters. Unfortunately, because of the way it was packaged and introduced to us as unquestionable truth, most people still take the Genesis creation story as incontrovertible truth. |
A-ZeD:Why your people would support Jonathan just because he is from their area is that we are still operating Nigeria. If a homogenous people are involved, they will be able to tell each other the truth in their traditional way. Right now, each ethnic group supports their own to steal from Nigeria and come back 'home'. If there is no Nigeria, they will see the need to develop their place, 'the home' they know. Like i said earlier, no one feels for Nigeria because we were not part of its formation. We need to split so that we can have entities we love and can truly call our own. |
amara.lizzy%40y:You need to be delivered from the spirit of fear. To you, the man is actually a god. REPENT AND EMBRACE THE TRUTH! |
I would expand the prisons to accommodate all thieving politricksters. I would declare all certificates null and void. I would design a new educational system where cognitive learning would be de-emphasized and practical, productive learning promoted. People will no longer pass interviews because they have certificates, but because they know the job. The senators and all legislators will earn twice the minimum wage of workers and no more. No child of a serving public office holder will school abroad, neither will they go to any private school. They must be in Ajegunle community school, Ndiegoro central school and the like. None of them will be granted visa to travel abroad for medical reasons. |
lomprico: If u were not educated u wouln't be in this forum talkless of writing this article. So what's ur point? Numbskull!Using the brain is not a prerogative of the west. Please use yours. |
Re-Engaging the Silence of the Rampage in Nnenna Ihebom’s Rampaging Silence Nnenna Ihebom’s “Rampaging Silence” is an apt example of a satirical excursion into the dangers of intoxicating leadership, dictatorial tendencies and usurpation of power. Akajiaku with the help of his cronies forcefully took over the sacred Throne of Alaike and unleashed a level of mayhem never before seen in that ancient land. He forbade gatherings of any kind whether religious or political. The indigenes were also not allowed to raise their voices whenever they are talking. Any contravention of this rule was met with utter ruthlessness. This was the ugly situation in the town when Ikenna returned from a sojourn which he embarked upon for the good of his people. To his utter dismay things have fallen apart. The land he left was no longer the same town he returned to. Evil cannot last forever; Akajiaku was finally dethroned by Ikenna through the instrumentality of the gods of the land and the help of the entire villagers who called for the blood of Akajiaku and his cronies as a spiritual cleansing detergent for the bleeding land. Ihebom in this epochal play successfully couched the predicament of leadership in our modern African society in an epic and ancient garb. The theme of the play is very current and in tandem with the situation of leadership in contemporary Africa which is bedeviled by incompetence, corruption, nepotism, cronyism, favoritism amongst other negativisms. One salient point in the play is the call for revolution by the playwright, a call which puts her in the pristine class of radical revolutionary playwrights like Esiaba Irobi , Femi Osofisan, Bode Sowande, Alex Asigbo amongst others. In Irobi’s play “Nwokedi” the blood of the corrupt politicians, Nwokedi Snr and Arikpo were shed to cleanse the land of the atrocities they committed. The situation as already noted is almost the same in Ihebom’s “Rampaging Silence” where as stated above, the people of Alaike called for the head of the usurper Akajiaku and his cohorts in order to revert the sacrilege they committed. Another salient point raised in the play is the much orchestrated need for collective action as a means of changing the current evil, stagnant, repugnant and repulsive status quo. Ihebom urges us all to remember that revolution is a collective and not and individual action. The recent Arab uprisings and the current situation in Syria buttresses Ihebom’s thesis in her play. It is worthy of note that Ihebom has through the vehicle of her play become one of the rare female playwrights who rather than preach the over flogged theme of feminism, woe-manism or motherism in their plays opt for the seeming “unfeminine” path of revolution. Tess Onwueme, Stella Oyedepo, Zulu Sofola, Julie Okoh Tracie Utoh Ezeajuh and most other female playwrights were not “woman” enough to toe the rampaging path of Ihebom in her play. The theme of most of their works predominantly revolved around feminine and domestic issues. It must also be stated there is an inference of feminism in the play as can be adduced by the insistence of the women of Alaike to join the raging revolution in the village. In the area of diction Ihebom showed an excellent use and mastery of language especially in the manner in which she used simplified language to convey a powerful theme, this to the mind of this writer is not a mean feat, because the language of the play makes it very accessible both to the so called elitist and non-elitist readers. Anybody who has the barest knowledge of English language will definitely understand the play. The playwright is not also found wanting in the deployment of indigenous proverbs and idioms as propelling instruments for her simple but well crafted narrative. The characters of the play are realistic characters who one can encounter in every day life. The advantage of using such characters lies in the fact that they make the story believable and plausible. In other words the revolution canvassed by Ihebom in the play is believable, plausible and realizable because they were carried out by believable and plausible characters. But then this is not to run down the use of abstract or absurd characters in playwriting. They also have their own positive uses in creative writing. The only way to sum up this brief critique of Rampaging Silence” is to pose the soul searching question, Are we truly and actually ready for this bloodletting revolution which Ihebom preaches, the revolution of rampaging silence? soapdish: I really think all of us should be very careful especially in accusing "Men of God". They are God's servants so it is only God that can judge them.A bunch of trash, if you ask me. That is just one way to silence followers and keep doing all kinds of sharp practices in God's name. The same rule that applies to the pastor applies to the laity. |
My dear, you are very right. We WERE DUPED BY THE COLONIALISTS. We need to be saved from this brand of education that has made us unproductive and totally dependent on others for everything we need. You are one of the deep thinkers on this site. Bravo! |
We are missing the "It is true" mantra. Where is governor Rochas Okorocha? |
This is the reason why women will likely remain slaves. They are afraid to use their heads. Where is the change and empowerment that the first lady promised them? Is it change of clothes and gele? Where is the development? Is it developing and perfecting praise-singing techniques to keep the president and his wife happy? Women should be liberated from self-inflicted stupidity. |
Kudos to Irete youths and women for finding the courage to speak out. I hope it will not take a greater calamity for Imo people to realize that they dealing with a reckless and clueless junta. |
How can you ask such a question? Is it not the governor's duty to ensure that refuse is properly disposed of? When people do not see refuse bins, they have to dump refuse somewhere. When refuse bins overflow, people will have to keep dumping their refuse. Stop making excuses for the clueless man abeg. I-pledge: |
Nothing about Rochas is genuine and people-oriented. It's all about unbridled greed using sweetened words to deceive people into clapping for him while he steals them blind. I hope the leaders of the labour unions refuse to swallow his baits this time so that they can engage him in a real battle and liberate the longsuffering Imo workforce from the smiling tyrant. |
No local governments are functioning in Imo state. They have all been paralyzed by the governor.Public servants cannot do the work either because the materials they require are not provided. anonimi: I thought it is the RESPONSIBILITY of the people at the LGA level to take care of refuse as per the 1999 constitution. |
The main problem the fake entity called Nigeria has is that nobody feels for it. We have our passions attached to our ethnic groups. A nation that does not have patriots is doomed to fail. Confirmed thieves are defended and pardoned simply because they are from this ethnic group or the other. This is Nigeria's greatest undoing- tribalism. Many things are stagnated by our forced union. None of the languages can be developed fully under the present arrangement. Tourism potentials, technological advancements, economic growth and a lot more will be better attended to when all the various components that make up the nations are allowed to exist on their own. There will be big challenges, but the things that bind each group together naturally will prevail. |
yunglykmine: Imagine teaching 'English language' as a subject in Yoruba.. Funny, I will say. Indigenous languages should be completely ruled-out in schools. There are better ways to encourage the use of indigenous languages in Nigeria, not in schools plsss your excellency.. My take.Never heard anything so stupid. People who reason this way should please keep their pallid opinions away when issues of great importance are discussed. why can't English language be taught in Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa? Is any language superior to the other? Time to rid ourselves of these colonial ideas. |
I spoke with the Vice Principal of a secondary school in Mbaise, Imo state yesterday and i felt like weeping for this generation of Imo children. I confronted her on the issue of the very poor level of teaching and learning in the public schools and she said they could not do much to improve on it because the government has made it impossible for real learning to take place. 1. Students do not have any single textbook for studies because they are waiting for the governor to provide them books as he promised. 2. Teachers cannot tell students to provide any books because the students will report the teacher to their parents who will rise against the teacher based on government pronouncements. 3. No effective supervision to make sure that teachers do their work. 4. Frequent invitation of students, pupils and teachers to the Hero square for government functions for which the classrooms are abandoned. Personally, i have accosted secondary school students inside Owerri town to ask them why they roam the streets in large numbers everyday from around ten o clock. The response has always been that the teachers were summoned by government for one thing or the other. Parents have embraced false comfort (the so-called free education) and left their children's future in the hands of a government whose stock in trade is falsehood. This can only spell doom for the future. Please can someone who has access to the Emperor of Imo state tell him that the Imo children are still waiting for him to fulfill the promises he made to them? |
Even if APC gives Rochas the presidential ticket, who will vote for him after he has destroyed his support base through a very terrible administrative style? He has also betrayed all his genuine helpers. Rochas appears wise to many people who enjoy his oratory, but he is really sooo not smart. |
Nemerem44: I still don't know why u guys keep attacking this Okorocha guy. I've asked my parents who stay in Owerri how he is performing and everybody keeps saying wonders. Mind u, I grew up in Owerri myself but don't stay there any longer. Also, I don't want to believe that the people speaking ill of My Governor on this forum are political goons from PDP whom under their (PDP) administration, Imo State was in a state of Despair. At least I witnessed that myself. U guys should get something meaningful to do as a means of livelihood and stop waiting for money meant for the development of the state to be shared among a few disgruntled irressponsible elements that I view their comments on this forum whenever the Name Rochas Okorocha comes up. One LoveNemerem, your parent's reports are influenced by the smokescreen effect of the man Rochas, He is a master in the art of deceit. Take it from me, if you are a discerning fellow and step into Imo state, it will not take you two days to decode the reality on ground. THE MAN, ROCHAS, IS A LIE! |
greggng, i live and work in Imo state. I am fully on ground and involved in the system. Believe me when i tell you that truth has eluded you if all you see in Imo state makes you believe that all is well. Please don't even try to insult the memory of Sam Mbakwe by comparing him with Rochas, i beg you. Imo is drifting aimlessly under a drunk and clueless captain. |
greggng, i will not fall into the trap of calling you names because i don't believe in incivility. Tell you master Rochas that he is a huge disappointment to his many supporters across the state. Not even the unleashing of a thousand hound dogs to attack any dissenting voice can stop the truth from being told. Soon nemesis will catch up with the biggest thieving governor that Imo state has ever been unlucky to get. |
You guys are just deceiving yourselves, not Imo people who are on ground. Where are these schools located? Rochas can only deceive himself and a few gullible people who are still dancing and clapping long after the music has ended. We need good education, good health care, good roads, good systems and structures that we can see, feel and use, not the ones we only get to see on the pages of newspapers, AIT and on Nairaland. Abagworo, can't you for once in your life say something objective that will help Imo state to progress? Haba! |
Abagworo, you are a great historian and i doff my cap for you for this brilliant post. Igbo history is one thing i really want to understand and i find this very enlightening. Kudos! I wish you could be a great political analyst as well. I guess we all have our weaknesses. cheers |
Totally out of point. Go and get a life and stop supporting a man whose entire life is summed up in one word-falsehood. |
Cooltone, don't you think you might be more blind than those you call blind if you just breezed into Imo state and concluded that you were qualified to judge the state governor's performance? Sorry, but you are very gullible. Rochas is not worth fighting for. |
Some people come here to tell naked lies about the confused governor of Imo state. No matter how much hype his foot soldiers bandy about, he remains the worst thing that has happened to Imo state. Rochas has a reputation of killing everything he touches, including the people and things that he used to rise. He began the process of destroying APGA, as soon as he got into the government house. He also dealt terribly with virtually everyone who helped him to rise. The man's selfishness and greed are legendary. He can never have my sympathy. Let karma have its way. |
