Zonefree:It didn't end well because it was a muslim/muslim ticket? Is this what you're saying and you're just happy the will of the people (muslims and christians) was scuttled because a christian was not on the ticket? |
kenedy175:Here is another social media analyst on the loose. Let's start from the NW, what impact did kwankwaso make in the previous elections in NW generally? In 2019, the APC won in NW, getting 72% of the votes while Kwakwanso/PDP only managed to get 27% of the votes. If Kwakwanso and his PDP then struggled to get 27% of the votes, what has changed that would give him (NNPP alone) 40% even when PDP has its own presidential candidate? Your reasoning that the north would only vote for a northerner is pedestrian, to say the least. So in your mind, an El-Rufai (a politician) would tell his supporters to vote for NNPP or PDP because the person contesting under his party is a Yoruba man? What can be more foolish than this? You need to understand politics first before you can make any projections. Other projections you made are as wrong as the first one because the premise on which you built them is amateurish. |
We need to begin to ask ourselves the tough questions. Bola Ahmed is a muslim who is married to a christian wife and has supported and brought to the limelight many christians in politics and outside of politics. An example is the current vice president who benefited tremendously in life from Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is vice president today with the support of God (first), and that of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Without this, nobody would have known him outside of the academia. Many other christians are political associates of the man. No wonder he was able to easily win the hearts of 1,271 APC delegates (muslims and christians) who voted for him as the APC presidential flag bearer in the just concluded primaries, despite other top contenders being christians. The result of the primaries gave me hope that despite what some bigots want us to believe, muslims and christians can and are working together for the common good. With this lesson, I want to ask the following questions. a) why is it so difficult for some christian leaders to have muslims around them and give them all the support and equal right? For example, who are the close associates of VP Osibanjo? How many notable muslims are among them? Who are the associates of Peter Obi? How many muslims are among them? b) why do some of us turn religion into a weapon to be used against others in politics, industry, and even in our private lives? c) why must the next person be of your religion before you can open the door of your heart to the person? This applies to both muslims and christians. We should begin to ask ourselves these questions and may be someday, the transformation will begin. |
specialmati:You first need to learn how to engage in intellectual discussions before going into politics or contributing to political discussions. |
specialmati:The 40 years old Peter Obi? Very young indeed ![]() |
SaiOba:Prove it... However, think deeply before typing. |
donleo92:How? Thank God he was governor of Anambra for good 8 years. Can you show us what Anambra looked like before he took over and the transformed Anambra he left after 8 years? How did the fortune of Anambra change with the 8 years reign of Obi? |
helinues:It requires an intellectual capacity to do so. |
Any keen follower of the build-up to the 2023 general elections should be familiar with the name Peter Obi, one of the contenders for the highest office in the land. Peter Obi is reputed for his large followership, especially on social media. If you conduct any poll on any of the social media platforms, Peter Obi will most likely win. On the ground, in many parts of the country (SW, NC, NE, NW, SS), he would most likely come last. His party, for example, scored only 195 votes in the recent Ekiti gubernatorial election. The purpose of this short write-up is to dissect Obi's followership (combined - both on social media and on the ground) and show the categories of people making up his support base. Basically, I have seen 3 categories of people. Category 1: These are ethnic supporters of Peter Obi who would rather die than support any candidate from a tribe other than theirs. They see the election in their mind as a fight for ethnic supremacy of the Igbo race but would come out to say their support for Obi is because the man is a saint and has a magic wand to turn things around in Nigeria. These guys have never supported and won't support anything coming from their SW neighbors - this has been demonstrated since democracy commenced again in 1999. They supported OBJ against the candidate of the SW, Olu Falae. They supported Jonathan and then Atiku, all against the SW's choice of Buhari/Osinbajo. This group represents 90% of Obi supporters - they are on all social media platforms including Nairaland. Category 2: The second category is made up of religious bigots who see nothing good in any religion that is not Christianity. To them, they should not be governed by practitioners of any other religion - it is a threat to their religion and a threat to their existence. Therefore, they will not vote for a muslim presidential candidate talkless of a muslim/muslim ticket which the APC may likely field. They have members in pockets here and there across the country - SW, NC, NW, and part of NE. They make up about 5% of Obi's supporters. Note these are not the ethnic supporters even though the ethnic supporters are also majorly christians. Category 3: This group has its membership drawn from the supporters of the current VP who just lost at the APC convention to his political benefactor, Tinubu. They constitute about 5% of Obi's supporters and mostly from SW. When you see a south westerner supporting Obi, he/she belongs to either category 2 or 3. |
trutharena: ![]() You wan to give these ethnic bigots from SE sleepless nights |
aribisala0:I don't think this guy deserves our time. He doesn't even seem to understand how things work. A company from Singapore will just land in Nigeria to look for where to dredge and site a port. |
CheapHomes1:The reason you need to start thinking and stay away from simplistic ethnic and religious sentiments when discussing with intellectuals. Why would the state government single-handedly go into such a venture? The global standard is to bring in people with the technical know-how and financial war-chest to lead and operate the port while the state government is only a partner cum facilitator. Lagos state government conceived the whole idea, brought in a technical partner, and provided the land for this. Bringing in the Singaporean technical partner does not only ensure the project is operated by a competent hand, it also brought in FDI which is good for Nigeria. |
Web2020:Show us one Igbo man standing today that is not corrupt. Nonesense... Our next president is Tinubu. If you don't like it, take the Biafra route out - period. A region filled with criminals in all areas of crime is calling a man who brought many including even the Igbos out of poverty, a corrupt man. |
CheapHomes1:So, to you the original idea came from the Singaporean company and not the entities in Nigeria (Lagos and Fed)? Poorly structured reasoning from a mind beclouded by ethnicity and religious bigotry. One would think Lagos state putting down 20% of the investment would at least push-start your analog brain but still, it wouldn't start. |
9jaRealist:Like the template Obi used in Anambra? Anambra is struggling to pay salaries and its contributions for pension today. |
trutharena:Someone is talking about a Peter that doesn't know how a complex economic system works. This is is the man joor... |
SteveDGreat:Church service or political meeting? These people and their empty noise... |
Truthisunique2:Balancing my foot! Whoever is not happy with Tinubu/Zulum or Shetima ticket should hug the transformer. It is a done deal - muslims and christians, who can think, will vote for the ticket again and again. The same way they came together to vote for Tinubu at the national convention. |
Truthisunique2:By the way, Obi/Okupe is christian/christian and I haven't seen any noise anywhere about it from the muslims. So, stop being a bigot and remove all these holier-than-thou togas that doesn't stop you from cheating, womanizing, looting, and discriminating against fellow human beings. And if you don't like a muslim/muslim ticket, must you vote for them? Why not just vote for your Obi/Okupe and allow those who don't care about muslim/muslim make their own choice instead of unnecessarily heating up the polity? |
ccollins:What is wrong is your choice of a third class over a first-class material Or you don't think there is no logical reason for anybody to support Obi other than the usual primordial sentiments? You jettisoned a first-class material, who has worked for multinationals and also managed a cosmopolitan (Lagos) with many successes recorded, for a man who spent almost 8 years to get a pass out of school. |
LoveNbeloved:Accept this and have peace. It won't stop you from being who you are - a fanatical church-goer with no integrity. Same for muslim fanatics - you are all a bunch of self-righteous with no integrity. Otherwise, why is your country in comatose in all areas - economy, security, etc? Every office holder in Nigeria is either a muslim or a christian - yet, it doesnt stop them from looting, discriminatory tendencies, and committing inhumane atrocities. On Zulum we stand... |

PaChukwudi44:The usual ethnic "buga"... When you see all of them saying it is Obi, you would think it is because Obi has anything to offer. No, it is the same simplistic ethnic and religious sentiments. Nothing more - every other reason they offer is just to cover up their active primitive nature. |
hungkee:Always looking to capitalize on religious and ethnic sentiments. Why not go to Kwara, Kogi, Niger or even Nasarawa and show us how everybody trooped out to receive a message they have never heard before? Baby politicians and campaigners excited about a gathering of less than 5000 religious bigots. The next time you want to campaign, go to Kano or Borno and show us your popularity, |
Kastonkastroll:He got 195 votes in Ekiti... How far is Ekiti from Anambra compared to the distance from Borno to Anambra. He may not get a single vote in some of the northern states. Obi is not in the race. The people making noise about Obi's candidacy are the same group of ethnic and religious bigots you see on social media everyday. |
JEWELofHELL666: |
edungene7:Like the youth did in Ekiti? You can't stop destiny - presidency is ours. |
blamingthedevil:A deep insight into what 2023 general election result will look like. Bola Tinubu, Omo Olodode... Your name is Destiny |
wirinet:Anyway, I don't dwell on religious nonesense since the religiosity of Nigerians has neither reduced crime nor improved the value system of the country. So, look for another religious bigot like yourself to continue the yeye religious discussion with. Nigerians should be allowed to dress the way they want... If you like, hang chicken feather on your head. The primary purpose of school is learning and as long as learning is not disrupted by anybody, who cares about the chicken feather. |
TotalRunter:Those killing are uneducated and crude fanatics like you guys. It is illiteracy combined with fanaticism. Even we have seen a christian governor in SS , despite his education, demolish a mosque and incite violence in his state and now he wants to be president or VP in the country. You can't east your cake and have it. Leaders should at least pretend to be liberal even if inside them they are fanatics. |
