majesticguy:It went pear shaped after season 4 tbh. One of those shows that is great for 3 season max and they decided to stretch it beyond that, they ran out of ideas and currently doing nonsense. One of the leads that made the show thick left after S5 due to personal reasons, and i left with him tbh. |
Anybody having issues with the DSTV stream app?? This people are so unserious 🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️ |
Blue Beetle (2023) Batman is a fascist...Blue Beetle has a sense of humour! I think we were due a Latin superhero big screen debut, and we might have gotten one with this. I have had serious super hero fatigue, so much so that i have even decided not to see this, but i gave in last minute and went in with zero expectations but it found a way to warm up to me in a very good way. Blue Beetle circumvents the recent multi-verse trope and sticks with a tried and true formula of CBM genre. There's absolutely nothing new to see here but it takes a repetitive recipe and added a little spice in a way that doesn't make it feel stale. The story is grounded in core latino values that values La familia above everything. It was entertaining, humorous, no clunky CGI !and there is a strong emotional arm to the story arc that connects well with the narrative, plus there is decent chemistry with not just the leads, but the whole cast. A personal flaw for me is that it felt all too routine, and i could easily tell where the story was going but it packed enough charm to keep one focus for the entire run. I might be wrong but It is not a billion dollar movie, it doesn't have the flair or Cajónes, it will have outdid itself, if it makes $500m even. It is not great by any stretch of the imagination, it is not the best superhero movie this year even by any chance, but it's a fresh and good respite from recent superhero failed endeavours that we have had to endure as it is a decent watch that delivers a good stand alone experience as it requires no prior knowledge to devour. DC might have found their own "Spiderman" and i will show up, if they want to explore the character beyond this. 7/10.

abduleez1:You should na, one of the rare times Netflix delivers a banger.
|
Ishilove:Yes it was, a very good adaptation infact. |
Kaycee7:"I'm Thinking of Ending Things" by Iain Reid. A bit dark and grim but a fantastic read. 😂😂 loool i will.
|
Reading this and i discovered Charlie Kaufman just scratched the surface with the screen adaptation of this , which was also brilliant btw, but the book is the highest ceiling 😩🌟...I really need to get back to reading more books and ditched my modus operandi of not reading good titles, whilst waiting for them to be screen adapted 🤦🏿♂️

abduleez1:Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are in the producers chair for this!!! Fkkkk! Holy Smokes!... Another Best picture contender just entered the fray I'm afraid 😩😩😩🌟✌️ |
abduleez1:lol The horror genre is probably the most least progressive. They just recycle the same franchise for years fgs. 😩😩 |
TheMainMan:Fully here for the pepper she will show him again, since he doesn't have sense. |
Na only Neoenergy dey this Tolani mouth every Monday...Iyawo kó fgss |
I fully expected her not to mention IKE, Him mentioning her last week was total fooling. |
EmmyCC:she has cracked this BBN thing ngl. |
Miracood2:That Jada Fire dey fire shot sha, really impressed me at the Women's World Cup 👀👀😊 |
abduleez1:lol This caused quite a stir back then with the Black face RDJ bit 😂😂 |
Ishilove:Oh wait, you do know i was joking right? 😅. I used the pronouns simply as a humor bait nothing serious , Ma.✌️ |
Ishilove:lool Hey, If they say they are more than one person living in one body, and they are them/they now, who am i to judge? eh 🤭

SOZINN:In order not turn this into a warped argument. If i could get you correctly, the bone you had to pick was. "Looks" should not be a criteria for casting, which we have agreed that "Beauty sells" bit, hence. Then you went on about many tv series talented actors that have wowed and not get the special call, and i also gave you reasons why it might seem so. So at the bolded part of your statement, please give me famous roles given to perceived "privileged" actors, and name a tv star that could have done it better. So that the point you're trying to make will stick. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish by asking me to name a television actors who are being marginalized from making it big in Hollywood, but I'll certainly do so. I could continue by mentioning actors who were chosen for prominent roles for factors other than talent, and perhaps that list would be longer. The actors you requested include; Niecy Nash, Rietta, Uzo Aduba, Tracee Ellis Ross, Rhea Seahorn, Jane Adams, Megan Mullally, and Brandon Scott Jones.I think you damn well know what i am trying to say, because it was you mentioned television actors that are seemingly doing fantastic work on those shows and I have never gotten the special call. Your example is piss poor on what you are arguing on, as it rather validates my point. So i will pick 4 of them to buttress. Niecy Nash is literally known as "the television goddess", because that is what suites her acting profile. Not that she hasn't even started in mainstream movies, she has been in quite a few, so she gets the special call, she just prefers Tv shows. Tracee Ellis Ross, this one even has a fantastic nepo head start cuz she's the daughter of a famous person, so she do get the call, but as you can already predict, her acting range is best suited for television. Jane Adams? Maybe not the one i know, cuz the one i know has even been in more movies than tv shows, critically acclaimed movies as well, so she definitely gets the call. Uzo Aduba's main niche has been stage play, and she's very famous around that circles, as way back as 2003. Her roles in mainstream media prior to the Suzanne casting has been minor voice roles and cameos, so the suzanne casting isn't enough to send "the special call" rolling in, tho she has been in a few other projects here and there, but her main calling is stage play!. On a final note, yes numerous factors influences casting, but my point still is if you are talented in tv show, you are talented enough for big roles in movies, the acting are quite the same in retrospect, only stage acting is different, and any "talented tv show actors" not getting the call, is one probably not answering that call or there's some other more talented actors filling those roles, simple and end of. |

SOZINN:Long read...Please bear...I will try to be as objective and explicit as i can. Before the advent of cosmetic surgery and what not, When i was much younger, one of my pal, woke up one fine morning and said to me out of the blue that "Guy i gats marry fine wife even if she no get character than the one wey no fine with character, i fit teach my fine wife character, but you see that face, na for life". i laughed it off then, but years past and i began to realize that, "Beauty sells". It is an unwritten universal law and it is not peculiar to just one industry. In year 2 of my uni, a dancing competition was held, 10 girls, 1 very fine one and 9 not so fine, and the MC kept asking us to vote after each round, the fine one was the worst dancer, but she duly won as we kept voting for her till the end, any pointers why?. I don't know if you have seen "The Witcher" show, there's a character called "Yennefer" played a very okay actress facially, and yet people trashed her that she was not "traditionally beautiful" and she taints thier imagination of the character from the books! I read an article recently about the Kdrama, that normal everyday south Koreans don't look like what is being portrayed and that you have to meet a certain beauty standard to break in. Beauty is synonymous with women, and there's a reason why you find women more as CC reps or sales persons, not because they necessarily do a better job. Hilda Bacci, didn't get more traction for her cookathon till like the 3rd day of the challenge after people had gone through her IG, in contrast Chef Dami, who tried to replicate the feat some mere weeks after Hilda, and she was berated to the high heavens, not really because she was doing something bad or was a bad cook, but in comparison to Hilda, Her looks and aesthetics dealt her a strong blow. Racism history sef is rooted in beauty and aesthetics. So Chale, the beauty and looks tax is everywhere, and not just peculiar to Hollywood, except you have some empirical data, i want to believe it happens less in Hollywood, because it is an industry where much of it's commercial and critical success are based on the critique of the art itself. I want to site 3 examples, Gal Gadot, Alexandra Daddario and Priyanka Chopra. All 3 have one thing in common, C list actresses at best but extremely traditional beautiful women, but the beauty has really taken them to the pinnacle, has it?, Their filmography is haphazard at best, filled with low budget C rated flicks. No serious filmmaker consider them for anything serious. People that cast them know exactly what they are aiming for. Gal Gadot in "Heart of Stone" is not for any oscar winning serious numbers, it is to drive stream numbers on Netflix and it's actually working, quite a few people saw the flick yesterday and it's only her looks they are giving praise to, and a sequel is planned and my money is that it will do poorly as well, but i will be showing up still. She getting the Wonder woman casting was shocking to me at first, as Gwendoline Christie had a more superior physique and acting talent ID for the role to her, but it finally clocked that WW was to be the first major standalone woman super hero movie in years, the face of female heroism if you will, a movie that all women and young girls can look up to, and between Gwendoline Christie and Gal Gadot, there's was a clear winner on who this face should be despite the disparity in acting talent profile. Now whilst i can't remember the argument you had with Abduleez1 on Talented tv characters not breaking it big and transitioning to big screen movies, i can tell you for free that, if you are actually talented, you would shine whether in TV or movies, and i have seen ample examples, infact most actors break out from Tv shows more often than you think, cuz movies employs a much smaller cast than shows, so they can easily get roles on shows, shine, get discovered and make the big break to movies, whilst i also know some actors that prefer shows, not necessarily because they can't break into movies, it's because it suites thier acting profile more. The argument on this that i and Abduleez1 had that i can recall was Grant Gustin transitioning from "The Flash Tv show" to the movie. This was dead in the pipe, not necessarily because he was a bad actor and Ezra Miller was better than him, he was still contracted to play the character a particular franchise with it's own universe and plots that work around that universe, imagine him be cast as the same character in the DCEU!? it would have been a continuity disaster, and the main point is that he actually prefers TV shows because of my point from above 👆. and for the record Ezra Miller are not a bad Barry Allen/ The Flash! So it you could mention these talented tv actors that are been marginalized from transitioning to big time Hollywood, pls mention and maybe we can continue the discussion from there. |
majesticguy:Gal Gadot is like bottom tier, there are so many actress far superior to her talent....As Abduleez1 will agree, we are not seeing her movie for "talent" , are we now? 🤭

abduleez1:😄😄 and I will be showing up still. I dey ok Make that Mama face, smile and that innocent voice just dey cool me for 2hrs max 🤓

ErenXSatoru:Not an isolated opinion. The animation style is easily distracting from the plot, you could get lost in it and lose track of what is really happening. |
SOZINN:Beauty tax... she no sabi act normal. |
Baddestguyp:Did you see it at the Cinema? The first run had issues and the most was sound issues, they fixed it, and change few other things along the line during the cinema run. So it will make no sense to release the theatrical cut, as they would have fixed everything for the Digital release. |
ErenXSatoru:You are welcome. You are correct, 80's is where the party at!. Hollywood was on a mad mad run in those years. It was like the filmmakers were on crack. They legit be having like 20 genuine best picture contenders each movie year! . Your "No action" bit tied my hands a bit as "Pulp fiction" contains some lengthy action sequence, since you are into that, may i recommend "Reservoir Dogs" (1992), infact raid the entire Quentin Taratino Library 🙌🙌 |
Ishilove:Thanks 🤲🙌🙌 |
To kill a Mockingbird (1962). "To kill a Mockingbird, it's a sin itself, because all they do is sing their hearts to us" Harper Lee's famous book screen adaptation is as powerful and thought provoking as the book with a fresh spin. This coming of age and legal drama is set in the Depression era, in a fictitious town in Alabama, our central character is Atticus Finch, a lawyer and a single father with 2 young children, the first half focuses on their brilliant coming of age arc, that is heart rending and sets the right pace for the 2nd half. The 2nd half is a gripping legal drama, that sees our central character appointed to defend a man of color accused of having carnal knowledge of a white woman, the case itself is touch and go giving the highly charged racial and social injustice against people of color in that era, so bad that in the great depression where poverty abounds, a white man and a black could both have one cent each but they are quite quite different, a seemingly clear day and night between "White poor and Black poor". There's is a brilliant court drama sequence with some profound monologue that adds to the richness of the narrative. Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch is glue that holds both halves of the movie together, a timeless and well grounded performance, duly got the academy award for best actor that movie year. The other supporting cast did a great job as well, their is a debut casting for a certain young "Robert Duvall" 🤓 who is currently 92, just to tell you how old this flick is, all the more baffling how well it holds up even till today. pennywise in talking about a good cinematography in a black and white flick, but they seem to catch my fancy lately, the court room scenes had some beautiful shots in monochrome. This belongs up there in the golden era of Hollywood, some describe it as arguably one of the best court dramas ever. Now whilst i can't promise that, it is a "happy" flick, but there is a clear, brilliant, and poignant message at the end that ties it all up cleverly and rewards the effort to see it, in full and satisfying measure. Top Top shelf Material.🌟 9/10.

@ErenXSatoru Caveat 🙏🏿: This list contains some of the very best in my library as par your request of 70's - 00's. I skipped some really popular titles, as i assume you might have seen those. i know you said no action, but some might contain just a tiny bit of action that doesn't distract the main plot. They cut across multi genre, so i advise you look up their synopsis and see if they catch your fancy before coping 70s Saturday Night Fever (1977) Ganja and Hess (1973). abduleez1:lol i remember i was telling you it might be the first movie to enjoy from FOMO and the Streisand effect. I think that what is coming to pass, cuz imagine Oriamo wanting to join the trend weeks after the movie premiere just so they are not left out, Fulham last week released a 3rd Pink away Jersey last week and tied the marketing to Barbie 😂 Would the movie had gotten to $1bn without these "direct and indirect" marketing? Probably Yes, albiet a bit slower, so the marketing hastened everything. I was reading somewhere that It and the Super Mario Bros movies has contributed an estimated 20% of all the total BO gross earnings from all the movies cinematically released this year 🤯...That is no small feat 👍 |
GloriousGbola:lmaoo. I didn't even expect an 80's flick to be that erotic and funny at the same time. Just brilliant brilliant stuff 👏😅 |
armadeo:lol The Ken bit with that Old woman with the dogs was the funniest 😅 |
