abduleez1:I might be wrong, but i think they are doing this sequel purely based off the success of the first movie, which i thought ended ambiguously but good and was perfect as a one off movie. This been billed as a "musical" makes me all the more skeptical. That's him in Arkham asylum in the Photo right? |
Fro5t:Nice pick once again hombre. Spambot still ain't letting you post this from your main moniker chief? |
itspreshh:Tv time. |
Baddestguyp:Andor: Cassian Andor's backstory turned out to be a very good watch and one of the best Star Wars projects in this Disney plus era. The Bear: A surprise tantalising watch considering the premise of it been a "Chef Show". Episode 7 of it might quite possibly be the best episode of a tv series in recent time, it was a single shot with no stop for 30 minutes, anticlimactic tension soaked masterpiece of an episode. House Of Dragons: This did well enough to finally quench the GOT aftertaste. Endearing characters and a superb casting. I can't wait for S2. Pantheon: This and severance were probably the best sci fi show imo in the year. Dodgy animation but it more than made up for it with a top tier take on a topic that, in this current time it's more fact than fiction while being excellently grounded in philosophical and human drama..good good stuff. Bad Sisters: Another surprisingly good watch. Dark comedy with just about the right amount of drama and mystery to make it worthwhile. Stranger Things S4: Good season with a pretty decent writing bar the last 3 episodes. Severance: The very first time i saw the trailer, i instantly knew it was gonna be a banger and true to it, this is was a consensus top bin watch. It had everything going for it, stellar cinematography, excellent cast and a unique concept. This is going to Hurt: British comedy never disappoints spiced with NHS drama and 4th wall break. Barry S3: The wait for this season was worth it. Barry back at the crossroads between good and bad will always be a good watch. Abbot Elementary: My suprise comfort show of the year. The only sitcom i currently follow bearing the trait of P&R and Superstore. The Boys S3: Diabolical! This season raised the bar to the roof. Each episode was gold and with the addition of Jesen Ackles to the cast was a masterstroke.

Let James Gunn Cook i guess cc pu7pl3 abduleez1

abduleez1:My exact problem with DCEU is this "Stop and Start" every few years. The uncertainty is just too much. Hoping this new era brings some certainty for at least the next few years. |
pu7pl3:Baffles me too. The first Aquaman was critically and commercially successful and it deserves a trilogy at least. Let's see how things unfold. |
Nickshrapnel:The filters is that James Gunn wants more creative control over DC projects going forward and WW has been somewhat of Patty Jenkins's pet project casting doubt on how much creative control Gunn was gonna get, so he decided to just nip it at the first pitch. James Gunn has been making some wild moves lately btw. "Man of Steel" 2 is in the works but no active development or pitch yet considering Henry Cavill left his role at "The Witcher" for this. Cutting "Aquaman" early at the sequel and recasting Jason Mamoa as "Lobo". I don't know what Gunn is cooking but it had better be good. |
It seems James Gunn ain't taking any risk and just committing to just any DC project but i thought Gal Gadot as "Wonder Woman" is one of the best CBM casting in recent memory and at least deserve a trilogy but that dodgy sequel didn't help it's cause still.

Early Reviews for "Avatar: The Way Of the Water" I always knew it will probably be one of the best cinematic experience in recent memory and this might just be the edge to make it have a heavy payday at the BO. Don't know about $2bn but this is making some mad money eventually
|
WriterNig:IMO and from the ones i have seen in the list. The Peripheral 7/10 Tehran 8/10 Yellowstone 7/10 ( I can only vouche for the first 3 seasons) S4 dropped in quality but still a decent watch and 5 is currently airing. Industry 8/10 The White Lotus 8/10 Slow Horses 8/10 Let the right one in 8/10 ( It hasn't finished airing, see the original Swedish movie it is based upon...solid stuff) The Queen's Gambit 7/10. Black Bird 8/10 The Crown S1 and S2 8/10, S3 5/10, S4 and 5 7/10 The Serpent Queen 8/10. Wednesday 7/10. The Handmaids Tale S1 - S3 8/10 S4 and S5 7/10. |
Kaycee7:Exactly! James Spader must be having severe back pains carrying this show for the past 4 years! The makers know they still have a closely knit set of fans that will follow it till eternity no matter how sappy it becomes but they can't fool OGs like us, who know when to cut ties with a show that has gone sour.
|
PraiseGod4u:Ran out of Juice like 4 seasons ago. Shows like this should always know when to stop cuz there is no why to spin the plot past 5 seasons without it been redundant and dull. |
I literally wanted to cry at this scene "ANDOR" is a straight up 10/10 btw and one of the best tv show out this year.
|
SOZINN:This is definitely not an era for movies to make it big at the cinemas. It will take something extraordinary to make $1bn now sef, and $1bn was easily doable like 3, 4 years ago. Still waiting on the "magic" that Egbon Adugbo James Cameron want to perform with "Avatar: The way of the water", to make it get $2bn at the BO ![]() |
abduleez1:Surprisingly had more than my usual amount of free time this month hence, but i am still behind on so many shows and movies... planning an insane run in December hopefully. |
Nickshrapnel:Same.. it becomes available on Netflix by December 23. Worth the wait. |
November Dump My highlight of the month has to be Andor The best Star Wars material i have seen in awhile. Bring on December!

"RE: Reservoir Dogs" (1992) Quentin Tarantino's feature film debut is an ingeniously directed, deftly scripted & strongly performed cinema that didn't just commence his filmmaking career on a spectacular note but also had a profound impact on the independent cinema landscape, for the sharpness of its dialogues, the rich set of characters it packs in & the remarkable use of humour in most gruesome moments are some of the many elements that have gone on to inspire countless flicks over the years and has turned this instant classic into an influential one. A timeless classic this!

"Don't worry Darling 2022" This wasn't worth the drama it created! Pros Florence Pough must have had severe back pain from carrying this flick from start to finish. Absolutely stellar performance from her and it totally mirrors her performance in Midsommar and a fine trajectory for where her career is going. The cinematography was stunning, you could easily frame every shot!. Cons Too predictable and underwhelming ending that provided more questions than answers. Half baked characters occupying a half baked world!, As big a character as Chris Pine, his role felt like a cameo and i could actually count how many words he said or how many scenes he was in.. The writing was all over the place. This movie was embarrassingly flat deviod of any juice to warrant a rewatch. As for Harry Styles's and his foray into acting, it may be time to worry, Darling!

NaijaMemes:Overshadowing what exactly? I still see movie reviews more than i see box office earnings discourse. Probably you are fixated on it that's why it's a problem to you. Box office discourse does not stop people from posting movie reviews. Fact is, most movies out these days are bums and most people avoid but the thread has to be kept alive and so in the absence of that Box Office earnings discussion and movie fandom banters comes in. Most of the movie reviews i have seen in the past two weeks here are mostly oldies. This "balance" you are on about... How many movie reviews, insider politics, directors have you personally posted or discussed on here this month to maintain said balance? Talk or post about these things and people will engage. |
Baddestguyp:It's a movie's thread and everything relating to movies including box office earnings are relevant discourse. It's fine if you don't want to engage but it's not off the rails for people to talk about Box office earnings on a MOVIES THREAD!. This thread would have died long ago going by this your logic. |
AnfieldFan:"Best Picture" and "Best Actor" are a bit of a stretch imo but then again, so many bum movies out in the last one year that i can't even out the top of my head name a clear best picture material. |
hopefulLandlord:Yeah...Huge. Avatar (2009) was a big deal and made big bucks because of the magnificent CGI that seemed ahead of it's time back then. Tho not the first 3D movie, but it brought an immersive cinematic experience with 3D and James Cameron is such a big deal in filmmaking, his last flick before "Avatar" was the hugely successful "Titanic" so people wanted to see his next movie. Fast forward to 2022 -Movie tech, VFX and CGI has come a long way so I don't think anything "groundbreaking" will be in Avatar: The way of the water to push it above $1Bn at the BO. -The plot of the first one wasn't all that, and there's not enough story in it to warrant this sequel or the other sequels planned, so clearly most people ain't seeing this for any coherent plot. -The most telling factor that is seriously against it making huge bucks is simply put that the "cinema culture is a dying breed". COVID 19 lockdown changed the game. After then, movies struggle to even cross $500m let alone $1bn. wokist and political agendas are on one side. I might be wrong but I don't see anything yet in God's green earth that will make this movie gross $2bn. |
hopefulLandlord:James Cameron admitted that tho the official budget was $250m, but there is some "undeclared" cost and the other sequels where shot together with this side by side.
|
Lmaooo... I don't think Cinema still has that "juice" to make $1bn on one flick let alone $2bn.
|
GloriousGbola:Re-echoing this point: A movie can be "great" depending on the context and the bar isn't at "great acting". Your reference "Terminator 2". Arnold Schwarzenegger was a basically a cyborg sent back in time to save a person, ain't much acting he could have done than what he delivered. The movie ticked the box in other areas and it's rightly one of the greatest movie of all time. My reference "Silence of the Lamb". Anthony Hopkins was on screen for just 16mins and he got an oscar because he "acted" the hell out of those 16mins. Point being...A movie can be great outside the context of "great acting". |
Carot:So....any problem? You can run with any narrative you please tbh. |
abduleez1:I swear... previous regime just wanted the next "$1Bn" DCU project to rival MCU earnings at the BO without a clear path or defined plan, whilst not carrying the fans along who have made this comics a hit over the years and clearly to some degree had great ideas how their comic book heroes should be represented on live motion. Imagine misguided DC fans doubting James Gunn's appointment . This man had one of the best movies in the MCU with GOTG till date..Good Lord! They should cry more tbh...James Gunn is ready to cook! ![]() |
There's nothing like getting someone with actual love for the art or job he or she is been employed to do. James Gunn might be a DC Masterstroke. Best decision they have made in years putting him at the helm. Actually excited with this new direction and DCU finally, would have a clear path and not just a jumpstart preceding every project.
