CAPdan21: Not denying the quality but there were more deserving shows who could have been represented instead of namechecking succession everywhere...I mean no directing Noms for stranger things and BCS ( Better call Saul) but 3 for succession??...Stranger things also got shut out of acting while succession got 16, BCS 2 and Severance 4.... It's pretty ridiculous, and btw both Severance and BCS had better seasons than succession so how can you rationalize 23 noms for 1 show...Even breaking bad and the sopranos did not get 23 noms...
The noms and category were evenly distributed according to the strength of each show imo, Succession just happened to be better in my of these categories hence the much noms. Why BCS had a fantastic season, it's still ongoing, same with Strangers Things that just concluded weeks ago of which tho they qualified for the this Emmy Window, there wasn't enough ample time to consider them, heck, BCS had an episode out on Monday, while Succession finished way back in December 2021. Severance, BCS and Succession were truly the best of best this window hence them slugging it out for the "Outstanding Drama category" but other areas Succession is eons above. Take for example "Supporting cast" I can only mention Patricia Arquette that had a memorable performance from "Severance " but Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen, Kieran Culkin and Nicholas Braun had memorable performances....so are you begining to see why the Noms for Succession was much?
DoveXlover: Thank GOD i am not the only one seeing this. With numerous great shows on the internet right now, look at the way succession takes everywhere and you begin to wonder how they even nominate shows.
CAPdan21: Love succession but the Emmys need to get their d*ck from their mouth...Their nominations were overkill with such good quality content on TV right now, the last time the Emmys had such misguided hardon for a show like this was GOT...
I know 25 noms for "Succession" looks like an overkill but trust me it is worth it. The S3 was so well done and probably the best tv drama from last year. Apart from "Stranger Things" and "Squid Game" ( i didn't even get why there was a craze for this". , Other networks didn't have the titles to rival what HBO did last year or at least in the Emmy Window. Succession,Barry, Hacks, Insecure, Scenes from a Marriage, Love Life, Minx and Station Eleven etc were some of the best titles from last year, all from HBO/HBomax. Netflix and co really need to up thier game, at least Apple Tv and Amazon Prime are even trying by investing heavily on ambitious project with a lot of potential unlike Netflix who picks up any tom, dick and harry that walks through thier doors with a script in hand.
IbrahimMav: I know I said at first that nothing really happened in season 3 but I said this in the heat of the moment. After I have had time to recollect myself and fully digest the season, i've come to realize that a lot of things happened.
we found out that Vicky Neuman was a secret Vought agent. We found out her real name was Nadia. We found out that her mentor was Edgar. We found out about Temp V. Homelander becomes the head of Vought after a coup engineered by him and Neuman. The Deep returned to the 7. Homelander killed Black Noir. Starlight quits the 7. Maeve lost her eye and powers. Butcher lost Ryan to Homelander. Homelander's Dad is Soldier Boy. A-Train got a new heart. The Deep ate a live octopus. The Deep fuccked an octopus....twice. The Deep separated from his wife. Butcher has a year to live. Neuman is becoming the VP. 3 members of the 7 are gone. Homelander realizes his fanatical supporters don't care if he murders someone in public. Frenchy and Kimiko grew closer. For the first time in the series, characters lost and regain powers.
A shit ton of things happened. Kripke has let it slip Homelander will die before the show comes to an end.... I wonder how the story will progress without him... I have a feeling Ryan will play a crucial role in the later part of the series Season 4 and 5 will be a bloodbath for sure.
That has been the goal from S2. Homelander been the "main vilian" is pretty set in stone now. S3 had a pretty tight writing with the Soldier boy arc but they almost didn't stick a proper landing with that finale. They have like 2 more seasons to go to round everything up imo, any stretch more than that could see the show become sour quick.
Shows of these days simply do not have the onions and flair to make 8-10 good seasons of the same show...writers these days aren't that good.
This season probably had more focus on all the characters' personal journeys than the past 2 seasons, with character progression and development for a lot of the cast and a happy ending for Maeve. I hope it lasts.
From Kimiko coming to terms with her propensity for violence and her relationship with Frenchie, to M.M finally opening up to his daughter, to Butcher regaining a teeny bit of his conscience after taking a forced trip down memory lane and even some focus on Noir to provide context for his character. It's not perfect and there's some bits to nitpick here and there but it's solid character writing all through that keeps the plot and characters interesting.
Jensen Ackles shines as Soldier Boy and just about steals the spotlight. With his character's dated perspective, he provides some comic relief in tune with the show's tone and his denial of his PTSD is pretty much in tune with someone from a time period when mental illness was a taboo subject.
By the end of the season, our merry band of The Boys (and girls) are closer to being heroes than they ever set out to be and farther from the anti-heroes they started out as, setting aside their personal convictions and vendettas to save lives of people who they don't really owe any favours.
The action stays hard-hitting and there's plenty of gore as usual. The finale spots one of the best action sequences in TV history with the Maeve vs Homelander fight. Superb performance from the cast all round. Looking forward to the next season. Ryan's about to be Butcher's greatest test.
Dodgy finale but a good season overall... better than S2 and on par with S1.
pu7pl3: I would absolutely love to see an Amadioha movie with decent world building on the pantheon of gods in Igbo land. Oh, and a nice plot too.
Amadioha wielding a Mjölnir-like tool and ruling Arochukwu with fire, thunder and brimstone will be a fire plot and a thing of beauty fam...my joy will be on overload if they throw in an Amadioha and Sango showdown
abduleez1: They usually try to adopt West African accents or that of Nigeria. Also try to portray East African accent.
One of the very few films from Hollywood I will say nailed the accent thing to the core and believable was "Captain Phillips" starring Tom Hanks. It's also more believable when they try to use local dialect and not the forced African English accent.
That was because they use actual Somalian actors.
Man Hollywood routinely culturally appropriate African culture because they know it will happen with little or no sticking backlash... what's the worst that could happen? Africans boycott the movie at the cinemas? Then you will ask yourself how many box office revenue earning do they get from Africa? But they dare not try misappropriate asians or even Arabs.
But I still had them call Lagos "Lagus' in a tv series this year, there's a medical show i was seeing one time and they said "Gombe state" was in Eastern Nigeria fam.!
abduleez1: Couldn't agree more. Have you watched the Amina movie? I just know I loved the trailer when I watched it but I haven't crossed paths with the movie link. I really love that event and want to see how it plays out.
I want to start seeing Hollywood telling TRUE African tales or OUR local producers start collaborating with them like EbonyLife/Netflix deal. Not those appropriation we see Hollywood do regularly regarding the continent.
I still crave a decent budget tale of the Benin Empire at its height of influence. I've watched "IYore" and don't like how it ended for the Empire even tho it's partly true. That's one place where alternative history works best.
I saw that Amina had gutter ratings and i dipped but the trailer looked so good so i was left figuring what went wrong.
Our local producers that have the reach to carve into the Netflix/Hollywood niche as of now it's those with proper links like Ebony and Ebony will rather waste Netflix's money on flamboyance and razz with a sappy story line.
But the proper link up of our stories (such Usman Dan fodio, Jaja of Opobo, Oba Esigie, Sango, etc) with Netflix/Hollywood money, props and production will be too lit if it happens.
abduleez1: Late this year till 2023 is the battle for movies with actor led blockbusters. I'm glad movies with top talent directors with cast driven original projects is back on the menu, instead of the IP films we've been fed for the past 5 years.
I think next year we feeding good especially with original top billed fare. Will reduce the complaints or feel of oversaturation with IP movies.
Man we have been starving with these B rated IP movies we have been fed weekly for the past 2 years or so...but from September till 2023 at least, we will be feasting and eating good...Studios are bring out their big guns.
OhBritannia: But i have not said Teraji is a bad actress. i am Just not impressed with the movie called Proud Mary but that doesn't mean teraji is a bad actress. So are you telling me scarlet Johanson do not have any bad movie she has acted? but will the bad movie take away the fact that she is still a good actress? definitely No
The stand you were on inkling on, on the said day was that Taraji P Henson was a better actress than Scarlett Johansson which is remotely not true.
And Taraji has a butt load of bad movies than Scarlett.
At my age and years of levels of experience in watching movies and series, you can't give me a movie like proud Mary to watch and you expect me to even rate it 3.
like the movie doesn't just make sense at all, Taraj just acted an upgraded Nickelodeon action movie for kids.
like how would you just go in like that and kill off bunch of hit men and gang men like that without getting killed? Is not like she is a trained assassin like Jenifer Lawrence in red Sparrow or a trained international assassin like the actress in atomic blonde, is not like she is black widow or something.
Even Jenifer Lawrence with all her experience as an assassin in red Sparrow took the beating of her life and almost lost her life in the movie, now that's what we call when something is realistic. let us not even talk about the near death experience Charlie theroz got in atomic blonde coupled with many beatings that almost disfigured her face. Proud Mary had so many plot holes i can't even begin to count.
Reminding you of this fallacy from months ago...Brother Britania.
DandeNumeruno: Artists have the right to present their work in the medium that they intended. He deserves credit for standing up to Paramount, even if the pirate in me wishes Paramount hadn't listened. I want to see this film on the high seas as soon as possible.
Yes bro.. especially movies shot in "IMAX detail" of which a long theatrical run is main reason they bother with it.
I think it is part of the reason Christopher Nolan walked away from WB.
As fellow pirates, we just have to wait it out till "Top Gun: Maverick" is ready to sail
DandeNumeruno: Did a little digging... so this isn’t actual steaming data, but searches for movies on JustWatch.
Clears that up. Cuz Tom Cruise has been at loggerhead with Paramount pictures over the VOD release... Paramount pictures have been releasing thier big titles on thier streaming platform "Paramount+" after a 45 day theatrical run to boost the latter numbers..Tom cruise was not having that for "Top gun: Maverick" and Paramount pictures cowered... paying off so far imo seeing the box office earnings.
DandeNumeruno: Top 10 most streamed movies in America in June 2022...
I doubt this list because as far as i know, I don't think "Top Gun: Maverick" is available for streaming just yet except they are using "streaming" in a different context.
