Import duties are paid to the FG( Nigeria customs service) and not Lagos/Ogun states.

Lloydfather:
dangote, otedola and Adenuga as u quote don't pay much import duties as their Igbo counterpart, they have import waivers from the government.

You can't say for certain that she is an Igbo lady because Efik, Ibibio, Ika etc were also involved in the civil war.

The civil war was a very tragic part of our history. It shouldn't have occurred.
It solved no problems and only cause unnecessary enmity among various tribes in this country.
May the souls of all those who died in that war rest in peace and God heal our land of the repercussions of such senseless blood letting, creating wounds that are yet to heal 48 years after the war.

Bros, there is nothing like 'Federal state' in Nigeria, we only have ONE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY I.e Abuja.
What's the meaning of regional State?

redsun:
Lagos is a federal state, unlike imo that is regional. There won't be much qualms enacting such law in ondo, ogun and other yoruba regional state.

I love the move, but it shouldn't be made compulsory to non yorubas, unless other two major languages are included,to give options to students of non yoruba origin.

That phrase 'Nairaland's most prominent pan-Yorubanist and overall wicked man' got me cracking my ribs with laughter

GodIsBiafran:
About 2 or so years ago, Nairalander's most prominent Pan-Yorubanist and overall wicked man, Akinphysicist made a bet with me that within 2 - 5 years credit in Yoruba language will be required to attend Lagos state-owned tertiary institutions. Unfortunately, the mods closed that thread because, as with any thread Akinphysicist ventures into, it was filled with so many controversial backs and forth. When I read this thread today about Ambode signing that bill https://www.nairaland.com/4343341/yoruba-mandatory-admission-lagos-tertiary it confirmed what I have always suspected:

which is that there are certain Yorubas on this forum who are very strategic and are just no here to blow hot smoke. Because of their education and money they are actually able to move lawmakers to change laws. I lament this because I wish my fellow Igbo forumites would also be this strategic. Instead, we spend most of our ranting without making any concrete moves. If one Yoruba guy based in the US, however wicked he might be, can predict what Lagos lawmakers will do 2 solid years in advance, why are we Igbos not making similar moves? The Yorubas are strategic and we are not. It is very sad!
Education › Re: Lagos House Of Assembly Passes Yoruba Language Bill Into Law by oyatz(m): 7:03pm On Feb 13, 2018
I have followed this discussion keenly and let me add my comments.
1) The Yoruba language bill is meant to promote the Yoruba heritage of the State.

2) Leaning (especially by adults) CAN'T be enforced, it has to be willingly. You can attend Yoruba classes and still not learn the language if you are not interested.

3) Nigeria can truly develop and be great if we promote and develop with our indigenous languages,so I am proposing adoption of several indigenous languages as official languages in addition to English language.

4) Those who don't like the law can seek redress by seeking judicial nullification of the law if they feel it is unconstitutional.

KemjikaEme:
The ethnicites in my state are not under any compulsion to learn the language of the state. It is absurd to compel minorities to learn your language in schools. Is this compulsion applied solely to students of yoruba heritage or the entire students residing in Lagos?
Argue along rational lines like an educated person for pete's sake.

Stop insulting the intelligence of the Ikwerre people.

So Awolowo and Gowon gathered the Ikwerre people into one Town hall and said 'From now on, stop saying you are igbos' and the Ikwerre people started acting like robots that can't think for themselves , shouting 'we are not Igbos?

Guyman02:
Trying to hoodwink the Ikwere people into denying their Igboness is a fraud promoted & perpetrated by Awolowo and Gowon to weaken the Biafrans prior to and during the civil war by carving out oil regions of Igboland into Rivers State.

That is why you have people of the same kindred in Obigbo in Abia State and across the bridge in Obigbo in Rivers State fraudulently renamed Oyigbo by former Rivers State Governor Diette Spiff to downplay their Igboness

Politics › Re: Tinubu’s Committee: APC Members Give Conditions For Peace by oyatz(m): 7:28am On Feb 11, 2018
So the NW, NE, MB, SS &SE don't have more important thing to agree on than thwarting an allerged political ambition of a private citizen?

LordAdam16:
Tinubu is a political hedger.

He has been hedging since 2007. In 2011, he hedged by making Ribadu his party's presidential candidate, then made a back room deal with GEJ to divert some of his base to support PDP only in the Presidential elections.

Now in 2018, he is hedging by staying in APC, but I know he'd make a back room deal with anyone he thinks has a better chance of winning later in the year. So that whoever wins in 2019, his interests are protected.

Tinubu has always been selfish and all about his political relevance. I have no issue with that since that's the ultimate characteristic of most competent politicians. But what irks me is that he masquerades as some savior who has the populace at heart, when he and I know, he doesn't give a sh*t even if the SW and MB are overrun by Fulani herdsmen as long as he is one inch closer to becoming the President.

Tinubu wants to be President, and all his actions are all about actualizing that ambition. Not any progressive nonsense. Unfortunately for him, the one thing NE, NW, SE, SS, and MB agree on is that Tinubu will NEVER be President. No one wants a drug lord in Aso Rock.

Politics › Re: Are Eastern Ports Dysfunctional? by oyatz(m): 5:05pm On Feb 09, 2018
Let's look at it this way sir. Lets assume that the FG have sabotaged the progress of other ports except Lagos

1) Substantial portion of our imported consumer goods are imported via COTONOU ports and then smuggle via Seme -Idi Iroko axis into Nigeria.
Why didn't the smugglers import these products via Douala ports in Cameroon and smuggle them into Eastern Nigeria to reach the markets in that areas?

2) Is the FG also directing the policies of smuggling to favour the Southwest?

Obi1kenobi:
I know absolutely nothing about the maritime sector, but my dad once told me (in one of his anti-government rants grin) that the government pretty much sabotage the import capacity of other ports ensuring most goods are routed through Lagos ports. Then again, he was no authority on the issue either as he was an FIRS official. But think about it. Despite the massive problems in clearing goods at the Lagos ports, it still accounts for the bulk of import traffic. There must be underlying policy and structural problems that are responsible for this.

I would still wait for someone in the know to illuminate this issue.

Politics › Re: How Afonja Lost Power To Fulani In Ilorin — Kasum, Leader Of Afonja Descendants by oyatz(m): 9:24am On Feb 07, 2018
Very good question.
1) The Othman Dan Fodio Jihad started as a religious war against infidels or Muslims heretics/nonreligious Muslims who practiced corrupted form of Islam.

2) However, the nucleus of the Jihadist armies were Fulani (actually one very big extended family) who were adherents of this Muslim cleric/scholar, sheik Othman Dan Fodio.

3) The Fulani were a minority ethnic group, they alone couldn't wage wars to overthrow several Hausa and Ilorin kingdoms, so they recruited the local indigenous peoples into the Jihardist armies ,painting the picture as a Muslim Vs Non-muslim wars.
4) In all human struggles to effect changes, those who spear head the struggles always reap the greatest benefits of the changes, so wherever the Jihadist succeeded, they installed Fulani men as emirs and with time the position became hereditary... Theocracy always give way to monarchy.

5) To sustain their hegemony, the Fulani rely and use two weapons- Religion and cultural integration such that

6) Today, most of the Fulani ruling elites are descendants of Fulani, Hausa, Yoruba (in Ilorin) ,Nupe (in Kwara and Niger States),Kanuri ,Bolawa, Badde,Kare-Kare (in Bauchi, Yobe &Borno States), all united by the love for ISLAM!

In summary, it is difficult for the local peoples to rise up against the (hybridized) Fulani emirs because they have become part of the people.

In the present day Ilorin, it is very difficult to see a Fulani man who doesn't have at least a Yoruba grandparent, parent, uncles or cousins all united in ISLAM.

Y0ruba:
Interesting.

Then why is the emirate leadership the sole right of the Fulani?

Are you saying Fulani are better Islamists than Yoruba in Ilorin and Hausa in the North?

You may want to revisit your points again.

There are so many tribal bigots on Nairaland.
1) There is nothing much to settle on the Ilorin traditional issue...there is already cultural integration and assimilation.
2) The emirate system in Ilorin, Okuta, Daura or Gwandu is an ISLAMIC and not a Fulani tradition.
3) What happened in Ilorin is not different from what happened in Hadejia, Kano, Zaria, Katsina or Gwandu. The Fulani produce the emirs in traditional Hausa kingdoms due to the consequences of the 1804 Othman Dan Fodio led Jihad.

The refinery will source its crude oil from Oil fields in Niger republic, not Niger-delta.
This make great economic sense because,

1) the refinery will be closer to its raw materials(Katsina is about 50Km from the oil fields of Maradi, Niger republic).

2) It will serve as alternative source of refined petroleum products to the volatile Niger-delta, where militants always blow oil infrastructures and will continuously sabotage progress.

3) On a greater scale, the development of the North is to the greatness of Nigeria, unless the North develop, they will continue to draw the the country backward.

2) Most of the service chiefs under Obasanjo were from the Northern minorities.
